    vanished?

    what will you do?

i don't understand this. do they expect customers to simply "forget" that they had placed an order? do they expect customers to just forget that they actually need a laptop?!?

    unbelievable.

Its hard for me to use the trackpad, but I did just test it out for a bit and I think I understand what people mean by loose. The "buttons" the bottom left and right corners allow the trackpad to move up and done in the corners probably hundreds of an inch with a light tapping. I had to really focus on it to notice it. And being that I dont use the trackpad it doesnt bother me. BUT, at $1300 that should be tight. Its really slight.

On another note, performance. I just installed VM 8 and ran a MS Navision image I had on a external hard drive (running through the USB 3.0) I was able to run NAV with no issues, I created item, ran MRP and MPS, created orders and did some base set up of the software. The system (X1) ran quite, cool and I had no performance issues. In fact I would say that NAV ran better on this machine via USB 3.0 then it runs on my work Dell, that has the system installed on the local hard drive.

Sorry I am new to this. Is this a hardware issue? Or software fixable issue?

I doubt it's by design, as mine is rock solid. I'm not sure what is meant exactly by "loose", but mine doesn't move at all. Of course the bottom corners move down when you press them, that's what buttons do. But no discernible lateral motion.

Back "in production" this morning. With a 09/26/2012 ship date and a 10/03/2013 delivery date. I see another temporary hold on credit card. My 4th credit card hold. Lenovo have really disappointed me this time. Even when I ordered the T-61 years ago, it was not nearly this bad. When I ordered my Macbook pro from apple 2yrs ago. Shipped the same week. Guess that is why apple has the best brand. You can even get a customized dell within one week. Go figure. :(

ARGHHH, So like many others, I got the email letting us know about the shipping delay, but they would be all shipped by the 24th, but now my order status says Estimated Ship 9/26, with a delievery date of 10/03. I ordered 8/16!!! And some others are getting theres this week. I really feel like canceling is my only option...

I think that you call them right now and ask about your order. I've just callled and they told me that my shipping date is the same 16th and it hasn't change since last time I called, however I won't get ethernet dongle. Other X1C will be shipped on that date as well.

    Ordered on 14th, i5/8GB/256GB

As others have already said, the order status is automatically generated and automatically pushed back not on the basis of actual information and so is meaningless.

Yes, it seems that the best way to check status is to call them, using chat is pretty useless as well.

So I have gotten Lenovo down 192.00 since the 14th of last month on my order. Long story just like alot of posters on this forum. I have this sick fascination with seeing this to the end. This feels like a Seinfeld episode! With some of the issues with track pad and screen that people have been experiencing I wondering if I should up my warranty to onsite so that if I do get a machine that needs a few tweaks I can get it done promptly the way I want it. I have been in situations where what I see as a problem, after I mail it back, others don't see it!
    What do you guys think?

I tend to take the safe approach with laptops, hence why I bought the 4 year onsite + accidental damage warranty. Sure it seems like a lot now, but hearing the problems creep up from people makes me glad I bought it.

Has anyone actually done a claim through accident protection? I'm still kinda confused on to what extent it of damage it covers. Can I hypothetically chuck it out a window and they'll replace it?

Just received my 8gb/128gb.... the one I had already cancelled. Couldn't get a concession on it though. So I may keep it and sell the other (arrives next wed.)

ADP covers pretty much anything. As long as you can provide them something resembling a laptop they should replace it for you.

EDIT: oh ya... no ethernet dongle

The only thing under network adapers is "H5321 gw Mobile Broadband Driver"

Booted into Ubuntu, same thing, no wireless. I have an $1800 laptop without internet.

no wireless as in no WIFI or no SIM-card based wireless?

from what little i know, my very limited understanding seems to tell me that from your photograph, the entire SIM card area component is missing for that wide area wireless (SIM card based), am i right?

    thx.

    i5/8GB/128GB, no USB-> Ethernet dongle.
    Ordered 8/28/12, Shipped 9/7/12. Delivered (NorCal) 9/13/12.

Irony: Received Lenovo email re: delayed order 9/12/12...while laptop was already in the US. Hmmmm.

All is working well, no complaints re: the screen; I do have the loose/rattly trackpad. Not sure my plan on that yet.

Absolutely ludicrous. About to file a complaint with the BBB.

guys, please be careful when using or viewing that pic from the ".ru" site: note that the shown SSD is a Toshiba, and we all know that officially, it was clearly announced that the SSD's that we'll all be getting are x100 Sandisks, right?

so, caveat emptor in terms of using that .ru pic as "the standard" to judge all other x1c's by.

Un-freaking-believable!!! :err: Words cannot describe this!! This is how a Thinkpad left the factory!!! A THINKPAD!!! What a huge letdown by Lenovo.

It really seems like shoddy units are being shipped out and quality is sure suffering as a result of Lenovo wanting to rush these out as quickly as possible (loose clickpads, maybe bad screens???, units not booting without AC cords, now no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth even installed....)

Seems like the people assembling these are being rushed to slap these together (badly) and shipping them out. Pass the buck over to service... Whatever happened to paying more because you were paying for Thinkpad quality....

I truly hope Lenovo makes it right by everyone who ordered these "flagship 20th Anniversary Thinkpad" model laptops.

    Edit:

Here's the Post on the official lenovo forums regarding a X1 Carbon user not being able to turn the laptop on without having the AC cord plugged in:

there is another pic in one of the reviews, i actually recall.

i can't find it at the moment but will try later today or tomorrow.

if another person recall which review had an internal pic, that would be helpful.

It doesn't look like they just forgot to install the WIFI card either. They have put a piece of heat-shrink tubing on each antenna connector so the wires wouldn't short out anything on the logic board.

I was pushed around for about an hour with sales/post sales/order status/tech support. I honestly have no idea where I sit with this laptop. I'm suppose to get an email confirmation by end of day today with information regarding a replacement. I'm not holding my breath on that.

The lady on the phone seemed to be frustrated with *me* because she couldn't understand the issue. She attempted to get me to cancel the laptop at one point, where I had never even requested it!

Lenovo: You shipped me an $1800 laptop without WIFI, bluetooth, or LAN Adapter, and you get frustrated with *me* that I keep requesting a supervisor to get it resolved in a timely manner. The reality is, you are ing up, and pissing off a lot of faithful thinkpad users. Frankly, the only reason why I buy Thinkpads is because they have the quality that IBM sold to you. Your customer service is an outright abomination.

I'm filing my complaint with the BBB as we speak.

When I was in a similar situation with their customer service, emailing higher-up execs at Lenovo finally got me some attention. I don't think I have the addresses anymore, but you might be able to find them on Consumerist or just by searching.

My guess is those leads are covered by default, and removed when connected to the cards (which they forgot).

Thanks for the other advice guys, I filed a complaint with the BBB just now. I've only done this once before, but I've gotten a prompt response from people of power.

Oh yah... screen door effect... I have good eyes, its definitely noticeable. I want to do some browsing/coding to see if it bothers me. Going to try to find a USB wifi adapter and play with it shortly.

Well mine has already shipped so I'll just wait and see how it goes, but I'm not optimistic. If it doesn't work out I'll probably look into running Win7 on a MBair because I just haven't seen any other PC hardware that appeals to me, ultrabook or not.

i suppose the only way to calm ourselves is to think that it is a numbers game. as such, there must be one or two that is DOA, or has a parts malfunction, etc.

the real issue is the percentage of failed units of the total shipped units.

we might be whipping ourselves into a frenzy here, thinking the worst case scenario, me included.

it might be most productive and sobering to remember that if the total failed units is a sufficiently small percentage of the total shipped units, then this x1c still remains a viable alternative.

of course, none of this excuses Lenovo for their:

    - extremely poor customer service, customer communications, and incorrectly reporting of dates and other info on their order status page, as well as incorrect information via their customer service reps.

    - unacceptable slippage of their timeline for virtually every single one of us. this appears to be a "failure rate" (i.e. tardy shipments) of near 100%!! that's unheard of for any competent company that intends to stay in business for very long.

    - hanging up on callers who are trying to reach after sales support? totally, utterly unacceptable. this will ensure that no tortured customer will ever return -- they will all, as in 100%, become ex-customers of Lenovo.

I'm thinking of giving up and going to the Samsung Series 9. I figure my only holdback was questionable build quality, but since that appears to be about the same, might as well go with the one with the better display.

The Series 9 is the other one I considered as well. The screen on that is a good one. The only reason I didn't get one is because it would have cost more. Seems like it could have been a better option at this point.

My X1C just left Alaska, so I should have it next week at some point. If I have issues similar to what I'm seeing so far, I'll probably send it back and pick up a Series 9 or wait for the Win8 release.

If I cancel the Carbon order... I'm thinking ASUS Zenbook UX32VD, but not really digging the 4GB of RAM, Samsung 9 can do 8gb... LCD is nice (1600x900), but the ASUS is 1080p IPS...

I wonder how many New X1 Carbons show up in the Lenovo Outlet, due to canceled orders....

my personal fear of the various Asus offerings is their wonky trackpad.

i have an Asus from around 2 1/2 years ago here and its trackpad has no border, i.e. it is not lower but the same height as the rest of the wrist rest area, except for some tiny round dimple circles, so it is extremely easy to have your wrist to touch and move the cursor without intentionally doing it. annoying to the max.

for me, a well defined trackpad rectangle is de rigueur now ever since my Asus laptop experience!

All of the recent reports indicate the ASUS trackpad issues are resolved on the UX32VD. You can replace a SoDIMM in that machine to bring it to 10GB RAM. The HDD can be replaced with a SSD, too. The 1920x1080 IPS screen is very nice but most people are going to be running it at 125% DPI or higher. Warranty and service are my chief concerns with the ASUS.

yes, to run a screen at 125% or more is very important, as i had seriously considered the Z 2012 before i decided on the X1C.

the Z 2012 at 13" is just too small. i hated its tiny screen. furthermore, it's high 1080 resolution on the 13" screen made viewing ANY webpage virtually impossible or at least extremely uncomfortable or impractical. e.g. Sony's selection of 1080 resolution on a 13" screen is not smart at all.

the Z 2012's speakers are also shockingly poor - yes, downright poor.

oh well, just got an update from the Order Status page:

BAD NEWS, or should i say, MORE bad news?

    reminder, i'm 9/6th, i5/8gb/256gb

original estimate ship date: 9/12th (which obviously passed without any communication)

just this evening, the estimated ship date changed to: 9/26th, estimated delivery date: 10/3rd

    additionally:

my USB 3.0 Dock (really more of a hub than a dock): they changed its name to "Adapter Port Replicator-US", and its Estimated Ship Date is 10/7th.

    hate these guys.

I'm just not big on the feel of the keyboard. It reminded me too much of the asus zenbooks which I absolutely can't stand.

while i agree with you guys re: the feel of the keyboard, etc, however, the issues that appear to be coming up vis-a-vis the x1c seem far more serious.

i don't want a gap that i can "fit a quarter in...and see wires inside...and adhesives coming off..."

i don't want an apostrophe " ' " key that is difficult to press because something underneath is "in its way"!

however unpleasant the touch of the keys of the Samsung and Asus are, they seem less of an issue than holes where one would see wires and a key that you have trouble pressing! these issues seem like they are just the tip of the iceberg! this is just the VERY BEGINNING of the x1c's deliveries! imagine what else might be exposed as more units are being "RUSHED TO THE MARKET" :p i'm feeling less confident about Lenovo with every minute, and with every single additional abuse they are throwing in my direction.

just yesterday, after not needing to speak with my sales rep (phone rep guy) since i placed my order, i called him and asked why all of a sudden, my x1c has disappeared from my order status page and only accessories are showing. he said that everything looks fine from his end. ok fine. he then sounded exasperated and said: didn't i tell you when you placed your order that you shouldn't expect your unit shipping out till 9/24th? well, it's not 9/24th yet!!

oh, now that i placed my phone order with him so HE gets the credit for this $2,000 sale, he's cocky and not responsive to my queries? it's a f_cking 3-minute call! get a grip.

I moved some messages over to the other thread. Let's stick to shipping issues in this one. Thanks!
