Summary is that I have not encountered any of the issues some other owners have described, but had a quite annoying "run-in" with the rubber cover of the SIM card slot that almost made me return it for service. -
First post here. Just wanted to let you guys know that the X1 Carbon is now available with Windows 8 as an option. Now to decide on the X1C or wait for the T430u...
-
Yup. Came home yesterday to see a big Lenovo package at home, as well. Though it might have been a free X1 Carbon, but wasn't the case. Opened up the box and it was the Ethernet Dongle, a Wireless USB mouse, and a pretty Sweet Lenovo Messenger bag. Ordered my X1 on 8/19 and after many delays, finally got it 9/30. Nice of Lenovo to give away this stuff as a "sorry, we screwed up" gift. Sucks that I had to wait a month for this though since I needed this for school. But definitely a good move on Lenovo's part. Thanks Guys! -
On the lenovo.com shop the configuration process still offers only Win7 options to me...
PS: First post here as well -

should have stated that i am from Canada. i am planning to order pretty soon but i should ask if you guys know of any deals other than the regular coupons they offer. also has anyone used the IBM Friends EPP?

Lenovo just sent me the USB LAN dongle, Messenger Max bag, and wireless mouse. I did not order any of these or receive notification that I would be receiving them. I suppose this is some kind of consolation for all the trouble that happened at launch, but I was already happy enough to get the X1 carbon for $1000. I haven't seen it for that cheap since I bought mine, but I've stopped looking.
Anyway, anyone else receive this gift? -
-
I picked up my laptop from UPS earlier this week (finally, after 2 months of waiting), and have decided to go ahead and install windows 8. FYI, the $15 upgrade offer promo codes are now being issued by Microsoft.

No joy here yet. After Lenovo cancelled my August 17 order and took 5 weeks to stop telling me that order was still in place, I re-ordered an I5/8/256 X1 on October 10 and they promised me it would ship on October 16.
On October 18, I get an e-mail saying it has been delayed with no new date specified. I go ahead and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which I recommend doing since it does get Lenovo's attention, and a rep called me the next day asking what would make me happy. The new ship date was October 28.
Last night I got an e-mail saying that "due to an overwhelming demand, we are experiencing some delays in processing shipments" and the estimated date is slipping by Lenovo "expects to ship it out "the first week of November."
So, just to let you know, it's all your fault! -
On a related topic, has anyone received the USB ethernet adapter separate from Lenovo for an order placed after 8/22? I noticed that the USB ethernet adapter is not listed in my 8/22 order confirmation (although it was listed in my original 8/16 order confirmation, which got cancelled because of a billing snafu). I contacted Lenovo post sales support, but all they would say is "It has already shipped." Yeah, right. I'll believe it when I see it. I don't believe anything Lenovo says when it comes to orders/shipping, etc. Lousy company, lousy service. -

Just checked, it departed Shanghai, China. Scheduled delivery Oct. 31.
I had a $150.00 concession on my original order. I HOPE LENOVO HONOR IT. I still have email concerning it. If not I will do a BBB complaint. -
There are some new models that have shown up on this site:
Lenovo Solutions Center
Systems with an i7 and 8GB of RAM, Intel SSDs with full disk encryption, Windows 8... -

Ordered: 08/16
i5/8GB/256GB
Received: 10/23
No dongle received. Received email that I would receive it in October. I don't think it will happen.
I have not experienced any of the noted problems so far (with the exception of the Windows update issues, but this is apparently a Windows issue). Build quality is good. I also don't really have a problem with the size of the AC adapter (1x2x5). My Dell power brick is actually the size of a brick (2x4x8) and weighs in about 2 lbs.
I did notice on the shipping box that the machine is made by Winstron Infocomm Kunshan for Lenovo. I don't know if all Carbons were made by this company or not. I was told at one point that my order had been sent to a different factory for assembly. -

Got mine today. Original order was Aug 17th. Had to reorder on Sept. after Lenovo cancelled. So far I do not see any problems. What do I look for? Mine also says from Winstron Infocomm Kunshan. I had a concession of $150.00 for the original order. The guy just reordered off the original order. Do you think Lenovo will honor the concession? I will call tomorrow. If not, even though no problems. Nice machine. I will send it back. I they do I will keep it. 3 months. Almost time for the to announce the new version in January.

I finally received my X1 yesterday. (Initially ordered August 17; cancelled by Lenovo; reordered October 10.
Correction of minor typo in Carbonless's comment -- My X1 was manufactured by " Wistron Infocomm (Kunshan) Corporation for Lenovo" in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China. Wistron rather than W instron.
I am generally fairly pleased with it. As shipped, the display had a bad bluish color cast. This can be largely corrected in Windows Color management by reducing the blue slider more than half and reducing the green somewhat less. I corrected the color further by using my Eye-One colorimeter and associated calibration software. As calibrated, the color is fairly close to that of my X220, but the latter's IPS screen is somewhat more saturated and has much wider viewing angles. Even for use for preliminary photo editing while traveling, I find the X1's screen acceptable. -
Yea I had to reduce the blue-ness of the stock calibration as well. It was almost painful.

My saga continues. I ordered in August and received it early October. Of course, it had a number of problems, most severe being a nice line of dots randomly blinking on the display. Service didn't want to try to fix it, so I had it replaced, which included me threatening a BBB report when the rep wouln't respond to my emails or phone calls. I finally received the new one today. It has the loose trackpad. Yippee. So either to the depot or I try to fix it myself.
Oh, for those of you who said they wouldn't let me keep the current X1 while they made my new one, you were wrong. They happily let me do so, which was about the only nice thing through this entire process. All they wanted was a CC number so they could bill if the original wasn't returned in time. -
Well, I assumed waiting until late November to purchase an X1C would preclude me from delays. Is that not actually the case?
-
-
I ordered mine on Black Friday but there was an error with the order and so I had to call them up on Cyber Monday and re-order the darn thing. I was able to re-order it for the same price.
Order Date: 11/26/2012
Est. Ship Date: 12/17/2012
Status: Released to Manufacturing
ugh, the wait is excruciating and I'm going to be extra annoyed if this device isn't in my hands by 12/20... -
Oh darn, so it looks like the 3 week ship time seems to be standard. I guess it takes a while to make them? Wondering if I should try to get one off amazon or something but they don't have that discount :-(
-
but I was under the impression that it would ship out on the 17th, leaving me to have the laptop on the 21st or so. -
Oh nice! Hmm darn I should have ordered one then. Well, I guess for me the safest thing is to just order it after I get back from vacation since it seems like the estimates are not very precise. Means I have to wait a few weeks but oh well. Maybe something more interesting will come up (touch version?).
-
can't believe X1 Carbon is also offered with 180 gigs SSD...
-
-
i think it is only sold to enterprise customers or on special orders...
X1 Carbon 3444B2M is the model number of the machine. -
Is there a way for a normal consumer to order it? Looking at the Lenovo Solutions Centre where I found it it seems like it's only $100 over the 128GB model which would be nice for me, although I guess it depends on whether I can get a discount with it too (through B&N or similar). Although I just realized I have some rather large expenses this month so putting off the laptop for a while.
Oh hmm searching for the model number I can find some on third party sites like PCmall (although I was a bit more interested in 3444BAU, for 8gb ram). Would I still be able to get a Lenovo warranty with next day service if I ordered from a site like that? Although I think for me I'd rather wait for another 10% off deal or something (well I have to wait now anyway). -
