After it was taking more than a month to have my X1 Carbon repaired, I told them to just keep it and they agreed to put the credit towards the touch when it's released next month. So I'm looking forward to it, unless it has a glossy screen.
I was satisfied with the display on the normal X1C, so if it's like that or better, I'm all in. Plus, the touch version isn't plagued with the cheap plastric trim around the bezel. It's not a flush glass panel across, so it should prevent the issues I had with it protruding too much. I can't believe we haven't seen a hands-on or live shots of this thing at this point.

X1 Carbon Touch may be available for order as early as next week. Will probably not ship/deliver until late December. Will run about $150-200 more than the non-touch version, be appx. 1/2 lb. heavier and 2-3 mm thicker. Still a matte display but the screen glass has more of an edge-to-edge appearance that also covers the web-cam. Gives the bezel a thinner appearance.
This is from a Lenovo presentation I very recently saw. -
I have a copy of that very same presentation, but it was reported that the X1 Carbon Touch section was edited out of the presentation very quickly, so there may be a change in specs from that presentation that are being covered up.
-
Where have you seen this presentation? Any links?
Maybe he has a newer presentation... -
I don't know if his is newer, but this is the one I have: ...
-
It was newer presentation. Dates were different per my earlier message and a couple other small differences. I do not have a copy. I was only shown the presentation. It was authentic and current however.
-
The X1C Touch was made available to order in out company store, but they gave no indication that it wouldn't ship immediately. I even emailed Lenovo specifically and got no response. Now for those who have ordered, is there any expected ship date?
-
Do you have any more details on the machine configuration?
-
Pretty sure Lenovo had just taken down the X1C touch information on their site (link on the previous page). The info was there about an hour ago, on the second page of the new and upcoming products.
-
Yeah, I reported that on here. I think the reasoning was because the presentation mentioned availability in November, and it is now officially slated for December.
Interesting. I never saw any pricing on the slide. I did see that it would be heavier, and thicker. I also saw that it would be more of an edge-to-edge glass since they compared both displays in a picture. No more plastic bezel that I had an issue with mine on. there was no confirmation of a matte display, but it LOOKS like matte. But between inconsistencies and marketing quirks, we never know which is right.
There's also some changes in the external LEDs.
These were from the Business Partners portal in the PDF from last month before it was taken down. Here is this month's, but there is no mention of the X1C Touch.

I'm interested to see the slides timantheos was shown.
You're right. Maybe it has something to do with The Verge, Engadget, and other tech blogs posting about it today and they don't want the word getting out there to that extent. It could hurt sales for their other laptops.....but then why would they list it in the first place?....strange. -
"X1 Carbon Touch, 14" Premium HD+ Multitouch 1600x900, i7-3667U, 8GB 1333Mhz DDR3L, 240GB SSD, Intel 6205, BT, Bk Light, UltraNav, 4C Internal battery"
That's all I can see on the order form. -
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
Really? You don't see a price? -
Yes I can see the price but not sure if I should post that here since its on our internal order page.
-
Thanks for sharing MrCrispy. I respect that.
But if it's not too much trouble, can you give us an estimate of how much more it will cost when comparing same spec to spec?
Thanks
-
You might be right I know it is effecting my decision.
I made the unfortunate mistake of going outside the ThinkPad family and trying out a Yoga. Great machine lots of fun, but, crap for quality/durability so ill be returning for the X1C touch. -

Looks to me like the Touch model commands a $200-$250 price premium over the non touch models. -
if you can get IPS screen with the Touch, then it is all worth it.
-
And if I can't get an IPS screen with the Touch, then I'd rather have a half pound less weight of the standard X1 Carbon.
-
Does IPS come in 1600x900 ? That's the same screen resolution as the non-touch so I'm guessing its the same screen. Maybe we'll get luck.
I ordered the X1C because with Win 8 I want the touchscreen, and its a slight increase in weight which is acceptable. -
Honestly, the primary reason I will be getting the X1C Touch is because it has a 14" IPS display. I would prefer to get a T430s, but it does not have a IPS display!
-
Do you have concrete info that the X1CT is going to have an IPS display?
-
I'm sorry, I must have misread something about the X1C Touch having an IPS panel. I thought a leaked promotion indicated an IPS panel, but now I can't find it.
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
It will be confirmed when production units are in owner hands. -
The Lenovo Yoga (touch screen) is a VERY nice 1600x900 IPS display, so it could very reasonably be the same display on the X1CT. But I would be plenty happy with a 1600x900 TN touch screen. I love the color reproduction of the IPS display, but I can't stand the glare and reflections.
-
The Yoga is a 13" display while the X1C has a 14" display. It would be a let down if the X1CT went to a 13" screen with a thick bezel all the way around.
-
You are right - I forgot that. It's funny, because I hardly notice the difference when I switched from my 14.1" Z61t 1440x900 to the 13.3" Yoga 1600x900. But you are right, it would not be the same display. Thanks for the correction!
-
I always wondered if the size difference was tangible. Thanks for your input!
-
Do you guys think it is worth it to wait for th e touch screen or should i just get the regular X1?
-
Available for Dec 14 Shipping.
Will be putting in an order tomorrow. -
When will the NDA be removed?
-
Are you sure about that from a good source?

We were told (by our account rep) shipping in December. We didn't get a specific date. -
I believe that. They even listed December officially on the Lenovo site. But Duckfart (lol) sounded very specific with the Dec 14th date.

And it hasn't been reviewed by anyone yet, right?
-
Ok.
I talked to several reps today trying to place an order on the X1 Touch and it was a nightmare.
after talking to upper level techs, the product I was ordering is not the touch and no date has been set, the information I was given this weekend was wrong and that rep was misinformed.
Sorry everybody, I thought I had solid info and was placing an order today but now I have to wait. -
I placed an order with our rep last week. Today I get an email saying there's a problem with the order and I need to contact them. Now I have no idea what's going on. IMO Lenovo shouldn't have made it possible to order if it wasn't ready to ship, since I was no given indication there'd be a delay. I will update if I have any more info tomorrow.

Business as usual, unfortunately. -
Looks like we have ourselves the first ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch live photo. The bezel is definitely the new one. I see a reflection but can't tell if it's a full gloss or matte display. Matte displays have a slight reflection too, just not as strong. What do you think?

Edit: Also, someone on Twitter said they're waiting for the X1C Touch to release and JUST received a response from the official Lenovo twitter account.
@lenovo: @gcaughey stay tuned, its coming!
So we know it's not cancelled. If it's releasing within the next few weeks, we should expect to see more about it anytime now. -

The screen seems representative of what I've heard. What I heard was the screen isn't glossy nor is it matte. It's somewhere in between.
-
I chatted with an online rep today who said that the touch would only be available through resellers and not directly from Lenovo.
Sounds odd to me, but one never knows the strange thoughts that go through the mind of Lenovo.

What does the battery indicator icon say? Looks like 40:45 but not quite, at near full capacity. Trying to gauge battery life.
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
Well, I know that isn't true. My company doesn't buy through a reseller and we are already placing orders. -
I messaged the owner that posted a shot of the X1CT and he clarified that the displays are virtually the same with a picture.
@julianpienaar: carbon touch and non touch side by side. No real difference. Not hi gloss like pads #ThinkPad Twitter / julianpienaar: @cameronhirbodi carbon touch ... -
Jeez, I really want this laptop. Subscribed. Thanks everyone for being so on top of this.
-
I forgot. On Nov 29th, Lenovo responded to a Tweet I had asking about the X1CT. For what it's worth, they responded...
@lenovo: we're waiting for more info too Cameron, can't share any confirmed dates yet, sorry -
I don't have anything terribly interesting or new to add, but I did call Lenovo today, and the sales rep said that they are on track to deliver the touch version in December. At least he didn't say it was canceled. He said he had no other information.
-
Reps don't always know a lot, but that's a good sign. Thanks for sharing!
-
check out lenovo's front page, the x1 carbon touch is on it, no further info though.
-
Good eye. It looks like it will be this month. Thanks!
