The Lenovo Website says IPS:
ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch - rugged, multitouch, business-class Ultrabook from Lenovo (US)
-
-
I was looking at the entry level starting prices, which are a $250 difference -- $1,249 vs. $1,499. It's possible that some spec-by-spec comparisons may be less.
-
Wow! Whoever wrote the press release should be demoted or fired.
-
Isn't it being advertised as having a matte screen? If it's covered in Gorilla Glass, can it really retain the matte screen attribute?
-
Unless the web designer doing that banner was incorrect. There seems to ALWAYS be inaccuracies with all of their products between different reviews, blogs, and even among themselves.
You never know what to believe. We went through this with the regular X1 Carbon too.
But that's a pretty bold "HD + IPS" statement
-
Yes, this is right. Dolby Website still says that the X1 Carbon without Touch comes with an IPS screen.
We have to wait for further infos (maybe we will know that when the new PSREF is out). -
That is the only place IPS appears. It's not in the marketing write-up below or listing in the buying specs on the shop/order page. Ah well, specificity doesn't matter. It's only a $1,500+ product....
-
I put in an order, we'll see when it ships I bet it ships when I am out of town. Almost didn't place the order as the timing isn't right but figured I'd rather be in the queue if there is delays like with the original X1C.
-
Smart move. Salesperson said they have been taking orders all day.
-
So the ordering choice of SSD just became interesting. Lenovo offer an Intel 240gb SSD, which could be anything as its mSata internal and not the normal laptop form factor that intel makes. Currently intel sell the 520, 330 and 335 series in 240gb. But Lenovo say the intel drive offers full disk encryption, which according to Intel product comparison page is the 520 series. So this is a very good drive. Now Lenovo are slugging $230 for the privilege of getting the intel SSD, considering a 2.5" 240gb 520 series is about that price you're basically payin retail which is a shame.
Also no WWAN option right now? -
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
I am looking forward to the early adopters owners thread.
-
I ordered the 240, because it was quicker to ship and $50 less than the 256, hoping it isn't an inferior drive to the 256 besides space.
-
I looked up the drive before adding it to my configuration, appears to be a very good drive, at the very least by no means a lesser one.
-
The website does say the display is "14.0" MultiTouch Premium HD+ (1600x900) LED Backlit Display" on the checkout info. If i'm not mistaken, the Premium indicates the IPS display, as does the Premium HD upgrade for the x230. Not sure if that makes a difference to anyone considering buying it though at the current price, $1600..eeeek. Oh well, time to wait for reviews and 2013 summer prices, my guess is $1100 with coupon by then.
-
Confirmed to have IPS.
-
Who confirmed this?
It would be a great step for Lenovo if they sell the X1 Carbon Touch with IPS. -
I shy'ed away from the original X1 Carbon recently released due to the a non-IPS screen. With this new touch model, I'm interested again!! WOOHOO!! I'll be scouring for the deals.
-
Just called Lenovo and they put me on hold for 5 minutes, talked to their tech people and confirmed IPS.. Woohoo! This means it should have similar display as the Yoga, which is awesome in my opinion.
-
Lenovo will reveal some details about the X1 Carbon Touch in the latest webinar: Live Webinars | LPN | (US)
-
Just got my X1 Carbon Touch ordered in through an escalated case I've had for months. It's an i7 / 256GB / 8GB top of the line model that basically costed me $1,350. It's a long story full of discounts, returns, etc. Estimated shipping date is 12/29.
The rep said when his coworker got back in with his X1C Touch he would call me back to confirm if the display is matte or gloss. He just called me confirming it's matte. Said he wishes his X1 Hybrid wasn't gloss since he prefers matte too. I didn't hear anything about it being IPS, but that's definitely a possibility.
I hope the webinar PDF for today shows up soon. If anyone gets access to it early, don't hesitate to share.

If you want, you can join to the live online presentation using this site https://lenovoevents.webex.com/mw0306ld/mywebex/default.do?siteurl=lenovoevents and this event number: 590422729 So you have the possibility to get early access.

I did. I missed the first few slides, but managed to capture these. Confirmation of a 300nit anti-glare display (with infinity glass), but nothing related to IPS. I'm wondering where some are hearing this.
Edit: I did ask a Lenovo panelist if there was an IPS display and they said "Yes". Interesting. -
So, they don´t advertise IPS with the X1 Carbon, but it has an IPS display? Sounds a bit weird...
But thank you for the slides.
-
To me too. Last time we had inconsistent IPS acknowledgement, the display ended up NOT being IPS. It sounds like it again, though some of the guys in here are saying they're hearing IPS. But what's to say their sources are the same that were confused in the past?
To be safe, I'm just expecting a similar panel to the previous model. I was still impressed with the panel before I returned it. An X1C / X1CT owner sent me a photo of both side by side. He didn't imply the X1CT was better, though he did confirm they were very similar anti-glare displays to one another.
When asked when they would be shipping, a panelist responded "It's been shipping since a little before December 7th. Our manufacturing lines are up to full productivity for it." -
In the live chat they just said its shipping already
-
But keep in mind, that was probably for b2b purchases. It was only made available for consumers yesterday. So I'd stick with the expected shipping date you get or later.
-
Hey guys, so I've been waiting for the Asus UX51 Touch for a long time now but it's still nowhere to be seen and the X1 seems like a reasonable alternative. If anyone has reliable info (e.g. from the announcement or having already bought it), I would especially like to know the following things:
1. Screen - maybe IPS, maybe not but still seems like it should be quite good quality. Slightly disappointing it's not FHD but HD+ should be enough for a 14".
2. RAM - is 8GB the max supported? And also, is it soldered, like the non-touch version?
3. SSD - is the connector proprietary, like the non-touch version? They do have several options on their website but as usual the higher capacity ones are unreasonably expensive.
4. What the hell is "vPro"? Lenovo website says that it allows you to "manage, protect, repair, and locate your assets from anywhere in the world" but I'm not sure I understand what that means.
5. Is it reasonable to assume that the battery life will be very comparable to the non-touch, or could the touchscreen be draining significant power? -
1. Screen is great in my opinion. Anti-glare, great color accuracy, good horizontal viewing angles, just a bit weak on the vertical viewing angles. But yes not FHD like some competitors and there's a chance it's not IPS. But it's of course touch now!
2. Yes, 8GB is max and chance are it's not expandable like the original X1C.
3. Again, I think the SSD will be proprietary again even with the variety of options.
4. vPro is an Intel technology that helps with security and management, threat watch, etc. It sounds important for corporate use but I don't have any personal experience with it.
5. Good question. I'd say it will be comparable. The touch panel could draw more power though. They both have a 45Wh, integrated, RapidCharge tech battery. -
1. I'm glad its not FHD, that's too high for a 14" screen
2. 8GB is max
3. I'm assuming its an mSata connector
4. vPro is an Intel technology
5. Battery life - I never go by manufacturer quotes, we have to wait for real reviews. My guess is the touch uses maybe 5% more power. But I'm also hoping Lenovo took the time to upgrade other parts/drivers. -
So i ordered one yesterday and I think there is a glitch in their system. I configured the i5 with Win8Pro and the price dropped to $1199. I added 2 year onsite and accidental coverage and the total after cali tax was $1346. Only 4gb of RAM and 128GB SSD but for the price I couldn't resist. It did say "invalid configuration" in the cart, but I received my confirmation email today. Shipping date is 12/23.
-
Just for kicks I tested this out. I think it happens when you switch from the win8 option to any other option. The downside is that it removes the "display" option (multitouch premium hd+ I believe) completely. So, your system is essentially then being configured as an X1 Carbon, non touch. The product type is 3443CTO which is any CTO verson of X1 Carbon I think, including the touch version.
Is there any mention of 'touch' in your final configuration or in your email? If not, they might just send you an X1 Carbon. -
I'm not at home, but I'm pretty sure the display section said PHD + MT. I'm assuming premium hd + multi touch.

Interesting. They must have fixed it since then. I can get the price to drop with this bug but it doesn't show the checkout button then
Wait... It still works. Hope it goes through! -
Returning my Lenovo Yoga tomorrow for this machine.. Gotta say though, I never thought I'd use the flip trick on it, until watching Sandy relief concert tonight in 13.3" on my lap. Was really cool. However, it's a sacrifice that will yield more of what I'm looking for with the X1Touch.
-
wow. looks like the glitch is still there. i just ordered the base i5/4gb/128gb system with win8pro and got a checkout price of $1,199. i then applied my 10% discount from the newsletter to bring my final price down to $1,079.10.
after ca taxes, this configuration will cost only $16.13 more than my x1c. i had to pull the trigger. i'll report back after i receive my confirmation whether or not the display is phd+mt. on the checkout screen, there was no display listed at all. -
Here's my order confirmation. Screen shot from my phone so not sure how it looks.

Wow. I wonder if they will or can cancel order if they catch on?? That's a great deal, and maybe a reflection of Lenovo's lack of attention to detail.. *Ahem... Press releases? IPS or NOT?!*
-
I guess it's worth a shot. Sure would be a shame to wait for it and it to end up being mom touch, only to reorder and have the shipping date pushed back a month or two like first X1 release. Especially for those who already have a non touch version.
-
Before I bought it, I added the high end version to the cart and I thought I saw that it was also 3443 CTO.

The attached graphic also states: "Note: X1 Carbon Touch has wide-angle viewing but not IPS."
Meanwhile, the X1CT specs page states "wide viewing" but not IPS:
"14" HD+ (1600 x 900) (300 nit) wide viewing, 10-finger touch screen" -
Indeed, it appears the X1 Carbon now comes with an IPS display ( Premium HD+)!
-
I believe these specs are not very accurate - for example, The 180 GB SSD is missing as an option, also, the battery life is shorter than other Lenovo spec-sheets say.
-
WVA display is Lenovo speak for IPS, this is what the IPS display is called in ThinkPad X220 and X230
-
The graphic has been changed -- it no longer says IPS.
~~~
@lead_org The similar graphic on the "wide viewing" X230 does say IPS. -
Also, too, the non-touch X1C datasheet specs (pdf) list it's display as "wide viewing."
-
-
No IPS = No Good.
Just canceled my order. -
I just got my order confirmation. Checked it and Display only shows X1 Carbon 14.0 PHD+ but not MT.
So I guess it'll just end up being a regular X1C? Should I cancel? Or perhaps wait for them to ship it and then ask them to return it afterwards. They seem to have no penalty/no restocking fee on returns.
On the other hand..the price ended up being cheaper than the X1C. hmmmm
