I made sure the computer was at high performance settings, although it was not plugged in. I only ran the "full test" on the demo 3D mark, on all default settings. I also ran some unigine heaven benchmarks. Will post soon.
-
Fans where not loud at all, You could hear them, but nothing like my roommates Sager. and I used HW monitor and CPU never got over 87 degrees while doing benchmarks at ultra with Unigine Heaven and after playing Dota2 for over 2 hours with everything maxed. Sorry I haven played any other games. I bought this laptop mainly for Dota.
As far as I know, panels are not IPS. I can see the colors invert if I tilt my screen all the way down.IKAS V likes this. -

Thank you very much for the benchmarks
One last question: how's the battery life ?

Can you run the same test while plugged in? That would be doing us a huge favor

Wow, what a difference
, But its still lower than the 8870m you posted as reference.
UPDATED Lenovo Y40, R9 M275 3DMark Scores on High Performance and plugged in:
UPDATE2: It seems the Y40 comes with the 13.25 drivers. I will update drivers to the 14.4 revision after work, I'll update with my results.
UPDATE 3: Updated drives to latest revision. Scores went up a bit./B]

What the......... those 3DMark results are worse (or on par in the case of Fire Strike) with some old results I got back in November with a single 650M. Unless of course 3DMark score differ depending on screen resolution.
Fire Strike: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,LENOVO INVALID
Cloud Gate: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,LENOVO INVALID
Ice Storm: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,LENOVO INVALID -

There's the R9 M275 AKA rebadged 8870M (called it months ago) AKA 7770 for you.
-
But it shows 8890m in 3dmark? Is the 8890m just an overclocked 8870m ?
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus utilizzando Tapatalk -
There's no such thing as an 8890M.
-
Yes there is, according to Wikipedia
Also if you look at the gigabyte Brix that uses the r9 m275, you can see in the model name it has 8890
I know it was never used in a laptop (at least I could not find it) but it seems to exist. Also in the manual from Lenovo it states Venus xtx as gpu core, where the Venus xt is the 8870m
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus utilizzando Tapatalk -
Interesting, I have never seen nor heard of the Bonaire core used in a mobile GPU. It would be the first new mobile GPU from AMD that wasn't a rebadge of a previous GCN part in two years! Even Wikipedia's main AMD GPU page is missing the 8890M and lists R9 M275 as a 640 shader Cape Verde part like 7870M/8870M. Well, there's Wikipedia for you.
-
This is where I got the screenshot : Link .
Well, looking at benchmarks it looks like you are right, sigh. It would have been nice to have a more powerful card.. I guess we will have to wait for Gpu-z to update to be absolutely sure, or is there another program that can tell the gpu core?
Btw, I found a 8890m in an all-in-one from asus : here but then again, after Lenovo's specification page I don't trust any specification page anymore

I am looking to get this or a Sager laptop so I will be following you guys closely!!!

The laptop has been working great, excellent battery life. I pulled an all nighter yesterday and never charged it in power saver mode. 7 hours at least.

Very nice! One question, how many fps do you get in dota?
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus utilizzando Tapatalk -
Have not runned fraps, but I guess it easily hits The 60 fps cap at the highest settings. Will do it later. I mostly play on my desktop, sorry.

Can someone confirm the keyboard is without backlit lighting?
In this case, how on earth lenovo can screw the 14" series again.... Crappy screen on the Y400, now leaving this out. Sometimes i feel that there arent any developers but monkeys designing these things... Next should be, ohh sorry only 4GB max ram soldered on the board... So crappy mistakes... -

Correct, not backlit. -
At least the y400's screen is easily upgradable. Finding a replacement keyboard keyboard is not so easy.
-
The Y400/410 keyboard might fit, someone gotta try tho. No idea if the drivers would allow the lighting...
-
If the y40 is designed the same way that the y50 is then the keyboard won't fit. Unlike the y400/500/410p/510p the new chassis of the y40/50 doesn't have the same keyboard deck.
-
Plus, it would be missing the connector for backlight, which is the main point in exchanging keyboards right?

Well remember that these systems were originally built with the backlit keyboards - the demo units sent out in January all had them .. so the connections may still be there - they may have just swapped out keyboards to save cost towards the end.
-
y40 and y400 keyboard layout seems the same for me on images. And the connector is probably there.
-
It would be awesome if someone with access to both Y40 and Y50 could check if the connector is really there
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus utilizzando Tapatalk -
What I mean is that on the older units the keyboard deck itself (the part the keys are attached to) sit in a big rectangular opening on the base of the laptop. With the new units the keys poke through individual holes on the base of the laptop itself. So instead of the keyboard itself resting on top of the deck (as in the old models) the keyboard now appears to rest underneath the deck, with each individual key poking out.
-
Thats right sadly, i checked it now.
-
All new laptops should have a backlit keyboard standard these days, it's a real bummer the Y40 does not, especially when I could have sworn pre-release reps said it would.
-

They still say that actually. -
Is there any model with back lit keyboard or they just blatantly lied about it?Am I missing something?
I would gladly pay if it was an option. -

I think Lenovo even told KlickOnline that there would be a backlit keyboard. I'm a sucker for backlit keyboards, so this laptop has gone pretty far down the list. The Y50 looks a lot better :|
-
No excuse for a laptop to not have a backlit keyboard..but I agree without it it maybe a dealbreaker.
Sure it was a not common a couple years ago but ....it's 2014! -
This is really surprising considering the fact that both its immediate predecessors have blacklit keyboards.
-

We know it was a last minute decision .. demos sent out in January all had them, and the Lenovo sales staff still thinks they all have them .. so something made them quickly switch to non-backlit, and they really didn't communicate it well. -
It's unfortunate, but maybe there was some issue with manufacturing or something. I wish that they would be a little more transparent about the whole line in general, especially regarding the R9 M270/275. I can't really find anything on them. Nothing definitive at least, especially the M275. Seems like it is a pretty important piece of hardware that people base decisions on.
-
Can you please post benchmarking info? I'm interested in comparing numbers from this vs. the 860m in the Y50. I know the numbers will be worse, but I want to know how much worse.
-
Already posted some 3D Mark scores some pages behind. If you want something more specific let me know, I will gladly do it.

Anyone knows if there are any issues concerning overheating? Is it running as hot as the y50 or possibly a little less due to a dual core instead of quad core?
I am very much undecided between the y40 and y50... I'd prefer a quad core/faster cpu given that I am usually pretty intense on multi-tasking but I'd very much like the smaller size package of the y40. -
so can someone explain how far worse the R9 M275 really is compared to the y50 860m practically?
-
That is what I am desperately waiting to hear, too. I don't want a 15.6" laptop, a 14" is perfect. Again, Lenovo seems to snub those of us that are looking for a smaller form factor. I can't find anything on this card, really.
-
Ditto. People on the Y50 thread haven't posted benchmarks in 3dMark yet....From what I gather though, this notebook is a LOT slower than the y410p, judging from the 3dmark scores. So, I guess I'm probably getting the Y50, but I'm holding out for the UHD w/ touch.
-
3D Mark scores don't always tell the real story when it comes to actual gaming, but yeah it would be nice if someone posted some more detailed gaming related experiances.
I'm surprised only one person got this laptop so far. -
I have recently ordered this laptop through Amazon because of price differences. I expect to receive this laptop next week. I will try to update the benchmarks and hopefully give some feedback on the laptop.

For those of you who have received the Y40, could you comment on how many days it took for Lenovo to process the order and ship.

From what I've seen around these forums the M275 performs around the level of a 750/755M. The 860M on the other hand is superior to the 750M SLI, so there is really no comparison between the two cards. Besides the higher resolution screen Lenovo has really gimped the y40 compared to the y50 and its own predecessors.
