That would be great, can you comment on the fan noise and temps when gaming and how good is the screen? Is a matte TN panel?

I have just received my laptop about an hour ago and I'm using it to reply here. I will be using this for the next week or so with some gaming and ordinary browsing. For starters, I can comment on the appearances and what I've noticed from the notebook.

The laptop I ordered has the following specs:
    i7-4500U
    8GB Ram
    512 SSD
    R9 M275 (Amazon said M270, but okay)

To reply to IKAS V. I have not tested any games yet, but I plan to do so in the near future when I get the time. As for daily uses (when the laptop is not under load), the laptop is quiet and can only hear the fan when you get upclose. I've been using this laptop for the past hour, it's been working great so far with little sound and temperature is pretty cool. The screen is matte and is a TN panel, I'm pretty sure. On startup, the laptop did come with bloatware, but not an overwhelming amount. The touchpad does attract fingerprints and is already getting annoying. The screen was set to 150% as the default, so the text on all applications seemed blurry, but was easily fixed when I set it back to 125%.

I will comment more as I continue to use this notebook. If you have any questions please ask.

The keyboard feels slightly mushy, but overall it feels very comfortable! I enjoy typing on this keyboard a lot, but that's my opinion. From what I've seen, the battery life is pretty decent. I was on Skype, YouTube, imgur, reddit and some other websites for about 4 hours on battery saver mode and it only went to ~40-50% (and this includes about an hour of Skype video calling).

I just got my y40 and made an account to post here about it.
Keys aren't quick to press so if you're used to a lightweight keyboard like say, Toshiba satellite (guess what I used to have?) you might make a few mistakes. The thing that irks me is the lid as well as the touchpad and the space besides it get all greasy/fingerprints can be seen and they aren't easily wiped.

Overall it's fast, and I haven't tried it for gaming for one reason-that blurry screen thing.
It's like, crip lettering with some slight fuzz that makes my retinas want to pop; I tried the above advice with the 125 scaling, and it worked but it makes everything in my mind, too tiny. I tried to remedy it by making the text bigger on google chrome settings with the custom fonts, but everything is out of proportions/overlapping. I'm honestly not really pleased with this and given I use my laptop for classes as well as gaming, it's not going to be practical for me to read essays with either too tiny font or slightly blurry-head ache inducing font. I've even tried to find different drivers but honestly? I'm like really close to returning it. The screen is also a lot shorter than I thought, if that makes sense, like it's the 15 or so inches but the height is cut down by a few inches, and add that to the 125% it gets hard to read things.

Other than that, it's incredibly silent, doesn't heat up and feels nice on the wrists/hands. Again, haven't tested games on it, but I'm not keen on keeping it (even though I bought it May 2nd and had to wait till yesterday to get it, ugh)

Does anyone who has this laptop know if it has an open mSATA, M.2, or 2.5in bay for me to add an SSD? I ordered the 500gb + 8gb SSHD, so does this mean that it has an M.2 bay that I could pull the 8gb out and throw in a bigger drive?

Anyone know where I can get the Y40 in Canada besides getting it directly from Lenovo? I have a couple of relatives living in Canada who will be visiting in July, and I would like them to purchase the laptop for me since they haven't released this in my region. Amazon, Futureshop, NCIX, Newegg don't have the Y40 on their listings (or maybe I missed something), and checking deals on Shopbot only show up Lenovo as the only retailer. By any chance do they have these in brick-and-mortar stores in the cities?

Can anyone that owns a Y40 comment on the keyboard?

In the reviews I've seen of the Y50, there is really horrendous keyboard flex, I wanted to know if this is the same with the Y40.

In pictures of the Y40 it appears to have a brushed aluminum deck around the keys and the trackpad, can anyone confirm this and let me know if there is keyboard flex on the Y40.

So little info about the R9 M275 available, would love to see some benchmarks and also get a good close up view of the production Y40.

should size/portability be a factor in picking the Y40 over the Y50,

is there any reason at all to pick the Y40 over the Y50..?

Size mainly, and possibly the build quality. The Y50 suffers from some of the worst keyboard flex I have ever seen. The entire deck flexes down significantly with even light pressure due to the cheap/thin plastic they used. The Y40 appears to have a brushed aluminum keyboard deck, so that should, in theory, fix that issue. Also the battery life should also be a bit better (Lenovo lists the Y40 at 5 hours, the Y50 at 4 hours).

The reason I have interest is because the R9 M275 should be able to run the games I would play on it (my desktop is for the ones it can't) during my break at work/school, and its definitely more portable than the Y50.

Are you sure about what you're saying?
From most of the reviews that I've read (English, Chinese, YouTube), the flex is "minimal to none".

Yeah, check Bee Ho's video review ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfBn_pOshJk), at the 3:30 mark he pushes down on the keyboard decking and the entire thing flexes down, even the touchpad flexes down with it, and he stated in the comments that it didn't take much force at all to make it flex. Not everyone cares about that sort of thing, but I cannot stand that much flex, makes me feel like the laptop is poorly built.

It's normal imo. The flex is not really that big to me. It shows no flex when he types or using the touchpad, only when he's pressing it in the middle area of the keyboard. I've seen worse than that (worse as in flex down even when during typing).

After all, Y50 is emphasized on its performance but not build quality.

Yeah, like I said, not everyone cares about it, its all personal taste. I mean the overall reviews for the Y50 have been pretty solid, just kind of sucks there is so little information on the Y40 from users.

No but having an SSD means everything feels faster as it becomes more responsive. You save a lot of time and things just happen instantly.

Got tired of waiting around for reviews, I just ordered one (the 256gb SSD model), should be here next week. I will let you guys know how it is provided it doesn't have any dead/stuck pixels (if it does its going right back and I will be saving a little extra cash for a Sager, already had one Lenovo with bad pixels, they only get 2 chances from me).

Indeed, I had heard very good things about you guys so I figure I can trust you more than ordering direct from Lenovo (they sent me a "brand new" Thinkpad a few years back with multiple stuck pixels and scratches all over the matte finish on the screen then refused to exchange it or refund me anything even though I contacted them the same day I received it to report the issues, the only reason I am even trying another Lenovo is because of your good reputation and your return policies). I'm hoping there won't be any issues because the Y40 looks amazing and seems to have everything I want in a portable laptop and your price on your Ebay store was fantastic as was your incredibly quick responses to my questions (which I greatly appreciate).

Well I wasn't going to give Lenovo a 2nd chance, but KlickOnline has a great deal right now on the Y40 and I spoke with their rep a couple of times and their return policy is very good, so I was willing to give Lenovo another try but only through KlickOnline.

Y50 has significantly stronger CPU and GPU, subwoofer, bigger screen, numpad and different lid finish. That's pretty much it.

I have a well equipped desktop that I built for myself (i7, 12gb RAM, GTX 780, etc....) so I don't need a full, high power gaming laptop. I mostly need it for school and work. But I wanted something that could do some light gaming. The games I would play on it will likely be League of Legends and Counter Strike: GO, both of which will be able to run very smoothly on that hardware. So from that standpoint it met my needs, and then the fact that it is smaller than the Y50 and has better battery life also played a role in my decision. I also had a very tight budget of $1000, and I wanted an SSD since I won't need a ton of hard drive space (again, not my main computer), and there was no way for me to get a Y50 with an SSD for under $1000 (at least not through any retailer I felt comfortable with).

To summarize, I just felt the Y40 fit my needs well and stayed within my budget. I had also considered a Sager NP7338 but there would be too many upgrades I'd want to do to it out of the box that would cause it to go way beyond my budget (IC Diamond thermal paste, Intel AC7260 wifi card, mSATA SSD, etc...).

The quality of the screen should be roughly the same, as far as I can tell they are both TN panels, which I know bothers some people, but since I have only ever owned one device with an IPS screen (my iPad Air), it doesn't really bother me much. And both the Y40 and Y50 come standard with a 1920x1080 resolution, the Y50 can have touch and/or 4K as options too.

I actually haven't received it yet, should be here sometime this coming week, but I've done as much research as possible on it and its components. Based on what I've read, the battery should last 1-2 hours during gaming, and anywhere from 4-6 while doing non gaming tasks. Lenovo lists it as 5 hours, but I haven't got a clue what settings they use to get that, but it shouldnt be any less than 4 hours with normal use. Once I have the laptop in my possession I plan to run some tests on it and hopefully post a bit of a review for everyone.

I am wondering if the Y40 is also supposed to come out with an IPS 4k display?
I have the asus n550jk on order but I'm second-guessing myself, thinking I'd prefer something slightly more portable at 14inch rather than 15.6.

I am actually in need of a laptop. I am currently using an old Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX, about 4 years old, so I am due for a new laptop. I actually need a laptop for school and some light gaming. Only game I really play is League of Legends. Will it be able to run LoL on high settings with consistent FPS?

Will this laptop be fine for a student / some light gaming. The reason I am leaning towards Y40 is because its 300 dollars less than the Y50. But there are barely any reviews / feedback for the Y40 version.

It SHOULD be able to run League of Legends at high settings without any issue, but thats all in theory. My Y40 should be arriving this week, and so long as it doesn't have any defects, I will be installing League of Legends on it (my favorite online game) and can let you know how it performs.

If it helps, i run LOL on high settings but with shadows on medium settings on a worse gpu (Quadro 1100m) with a fps of 45-60 and i5 with only 4gb ram, most of it taken up by other stuff and it runs off.
With everything on very high, in 5 vs 5 when people run their ults, things can be weird for a second or so .

So the good news and the bad news:

The good news is, it can run League of Legends at medium-high settings without issue, if you crank everything to Very High (highest settings) it will get about 75-90FPS until you start having spells thrown around at which point it was dropping to about 40-50fps, still playable though.

The bad news is, mine came with a cluster of bright pixels so I have to return it :( (on white backgrounds the pixels are 2-3 times brighter than everything else on the screen, very distracting).

Also there is a little bit of keyboard flex on the H, J, and K keys, but definitely less than the Y50 seems to have, overall its a good keyboard, and if it wasn't for the defective screen I'd be keeping it.

Its a good laptop from what I could tell, just unfortunate that I got one with a defective screen.
