so i received the 2k screen, connector is identical to 4k screen but for some reason the panel does not work at all (no response from the screen, in fact the laptop does not even boot with 2k screen connected as you get no output via hdmi). not sure if the screen itself is faulty or whether its just incompatible... not sure what to do now :(

after further tests it looks like it boots with the 2k panel connected if i use UEFI bios mode, however once in windows 2k panel is not visible in device manager nor is it showing any signs of life.

That's odd. If it displays at all during the bootup stage, then surely that automatically means it's compatible? I wonder what could be the issue. Does connecting to an HDMI tv work now though? I suppose so cause you mentioned you viewed device manager. I have an idea, try and get a live cd of something, maybe linux since it would be much easier and try to boot off that and see if the display works at all then.
That's all I can think of.

sorry to clarify, the laptop boots with 2k screen connected, but nothing is displayed on the 2k screen itself (i can see stuff on external monitor though via hdmi). it doesnt even seem to turn the backlight on, which makes me wonder if the screen is doa.

So external display works. Basically it seems everything works but the screen? If it is DOA that would suck. Kinda sucks how there's hardly any way to test if it is or not. :(

Cause if it's the same connector, surely it should work no matter what.

yep, the only way to test this i guess is to send the screen back for a replacement... will see what the seller says first, maybe he'll be kind enough to send me a replacement.

are you sure you pushed your eDP connector in enough? when I installed my panel it did the same thing because I didn't push it enough. you have to make sure it's pushed all the way in

I have an issue guys and I hope I get some help from you. I have replaced the screen with AUO B156HAN01.2. IT is beautiful display and never had any issues playing games on it. Colors are awesome viewing angles are awesome but one thing. When I put the plastic frame back I got some white bleeding around the corners. How to prevent this? Have anybody found a solution or experienced such thing ? It is noticeable only on very dark scenes with high brightness.

Also is there a chance to purchase a new plastic frame from somewhere if I brake it?

I kinda want to just swap the screen out for one that can run at higher than 48hz. It's not the biggest deal, but screen tearing does become an issue

I have been using B156HAN01.2 for 2 weeks now and I can say that the screen is very nice. The colors are very sharp and good. I am playing Assassin's Creed, BF4 and Middle Earth: SoM as well as LoL and WoW and I have not experienced any tearing/ghosting issues so far. It is very nice screen way better then the ChiMei one. Although they say it is an IPS screen it is not.Iit is a AHVA screen. It has very good viewing angles. However the only issue that I am experiencing is the light bleeding on dark scenes around the corners (noticeable when Windows is starting - highest brightness). This is due to the very tight frame.

I had about the same problem as you, except mine was a vertical patch of weird colors...
One thing u can try is to try to bend ur screen a little and see if it goes away... because thats what happened to mine...

In fact, its actually a problem with a loose connection. Search on youtube and many laptops actually suffer from this. I fixed mine partially by reapply the sticker to the connector... Basically after u push the connector in, u apply a layer of adhesive tape over it to ensure the connector stays in place.

But my observation here as well as my own suggests the B156HAN01.2, while is a very good screen, suffers from Quality Control problem.

Yes. The seller bend the screen cable connection in packaging, so it was damaged.

Hello, I was considering getting a Lenovo Y50, until I saw that horrible stick display. Could anyone Point me to where I could order an IPS display for this laptop? It seems many sites online claim its out of stock. Also If i get the touchscreen model wilI I lose that with this replacement?

    Update from my previous post

I have the exact same problem after using for 2 mths. And when I bend the screen a little, it reverts back to normal.

I then open up and refit the cable again, same problem again. Weird thing is when my display lies flat down, i tried moving the cable and the display is still perfect. Only when mounted does the color becomes fizzy.

Then I inspected the 4 metal pieces that the screws goes through. Compared to the default TN display, the metal mount is slightly different. The default ones are flushed to one side of the display thickness, while the AUO display has its metal flushed at the middle. What I did was bend the metal a little so that it replicates the one found on the default screen. Ever since, problem settled. The problem with the AUO display for some, is that the mounting is not 100% compatible with the laptop. Over time, the screen kind of gets bent likely at the bottom where the circuit boards are, causing frizzy colors that gets worst over time as the 4 screws works its way to bend the panel further.

I have opened and close my display several several times to solve this problem and I hope it helps for those that experiences it.

    Hi Guys,

I just installed a new B156HAN01.2 from Icdtech and warmed up it for 3 hours now.

The viewing angles are awesome however the panel looks very dark to me... When the luminosity is at the minimum, you barely see something on the screen.
Even at the highest luminosity the screen is not so bright and darker than this original Chi Mei. Do you experience the same or do you think it's my panel which is bad?

    Thanks!

Here is a picture illustrating my previous post.

Focus was volontary set on the keyboard so you can see the difference in brightness.

Brightness level was 100, 75, 50 and 0% from left to right.

Do you experience the same issue?

    Hello,

just to get some information around, I bought a B156HAN01.2 from Aliexpress. It arrived in one month as expected, and it looked like it was quite nicely packed.

When I assembled it and turned the laptop on, one of the dreaded black bars across the screen showed up. After a bit of tinkering and searching around here (thanks guys!) I found out that the fault was not in the connector cable, but on the lower black taped margin of the display, it was slightly bent out of shape.

After I bent it back to shape, it worked. The bar flickered a bit, but a bit of twisting did the job and now it seems good. I will test it a few days before i decide if I keep it

The panel itself needs no introduction here, it is miles away from the AUO that I had, it made me realize how far I had distorted the colors to make it usable.

As i was writing this, I remembered people posting about ghosting problems related to the 25ms refresh rate. I went and played a bit of CS:GO, made absolutely no difference to me. Granted, I don't play competitively, but I think the majority of people won't have any problem with it. Besides, you'll be too busy noticing that until now you had no reds and now you do.

In a nutshell, new screen is awesome, installation super easy, beware of shoddy construction and packing.

This is the solution that people needs. It doesn't help that the bottom black taped area covered up whats inside, although I suspect it to be circuit boards. IMO the AUO display has poor manufacturing quality. And I hope the one we gotten from Ali-express are not rejected goods. While mine came great, it started to have problem after 2 months, fuzzy color at certain area of the screen. I did a temporary fix by twisting the black taped portion outwards, which solved the problem... temporarily at least.

I have the LG panel shipped from ali-express. i'll install it when it arrives. I would like to open up the black tape area and check whats wrong, if its just a simple fix, something looses that need to be put back in place, it can save a lot people the trouble of shipping their panels back. I've seen some cases like mine where it came excellent but problem arises after some uses. Then again, I've opened up and close my panel over 10 times, the screws don't always hold up very well. Its best I refrain from plugging the video cable in and out also.

To sum it up, if you get no display at all, it should be the cable problem, u need to insert it more, ensure the connectors are flushed. If u have portion of ur screen being black or fuzzy colors or lines, it may be the connector looses, but my best bet is that its something wrong with the circuit covered by the black tape, give it a twist and see if it fix your problem.

Mine definitely can see something even at lowest settings. But this depends on where u use it at. IF ur under the sun, its a different story. As a whole, I feel the AUO display is definitely brighter than the default one.

Well it's been six weeks now with my B156HAN01.2, and problems are starting to creep up. I noticed a dead pixel on the middle top part of the screen last week that I swear wasn't there before, and the top right side is now producing burn-in / stuck imaging. Specifically, when browsing on the web for more than 5 minutes or so, and I close or minimize the browser, I can still see the browser elements over whatever current screen there is. Is this a defect that can be deemed exchangeable?

Mine is definitely much less brighter than the original one. And I'm using in my room without any sunlight! I can't imagine outside.
It seems that my pannel has a problem. Comments on the brightness level from other users woull be greatly appreciated!

Yes, lowering the brightness to minimum becomes way too dark, but having the screen at maximum brightness is way too bright, it hurts my eyes, even under direct solar light!
Honestly it could either be that the panel is bad, or that you are used to much brighter displays.

I think that the B156HAN01.2 is the brightest display I've ever seen!
