Guys, does anyone know if we can replace the Touchscreen model with a Non-touch ?
I realise that we'll be needing the front bezel, I need to know if the screws and positioning is the same at the back? -

58 pages but I still have no idea what I'm reading
I can't choose a screen I have no idea which one would really work and be better than this one.
I need a screen for gaming 1920 resolution. And I keep reading that most of the screen have terrible response time or in most case no mention if they're better than this one.
LENOVO 15.6" Y50-70, Intel i7-4710HQ, 1 TB HDD
Help me out there ;_; please -
I am not that concerned about the response time but the goshting and image retention.
I have also read the entire post and it doesnt seem to be a screen that just works without doing weird things after a while. -
Mine is fine, no issues so far, no complains. I got the LP156WF4(SP)(H1) 4 months ago.
Couple of points:
1. I had mine replaced in the shop, I didn't do it myself.
2. Even though I don't notice the higher response time the panel comes with or any ghosting keep in mind I'm not a hardcore gamer. I do play FPS games sometimes but not a lot and SP only. -

1. Did you saw them do the whole thing?
2. Good to hear and it does seem like the model the sir in the video used. Did you get it in Europe? -
2. Yeah, Europe. The guy from the video used the D1 instead. The difference between the D1 and H1 seems to be in H1's lower power consumption. -

How does this screen compare to any laptop screens you had experience with?
-
The best, but its my first IPS so its not a fair comparison.
-
where did you buy the screen by the way?
thanks -
Lol its not an expression but rather missing commas. You'd have to imagine a comma right after "with" and another one after "ghosting"
What I mean is that I don't notice any ghosting with this panel doing the things I do with my laptop.
I bought the panel from a local computer repair shop. -
hahhhahah OK, thanks, good to know. Mondays, you know...:S
I guess that one the problems of the internet, forums etc. is that we tend to comment only when we have problems...
so there is probably plenty of people there that installed the panel and haven't bothered to post. -

Was this a specific chain or really local ? I have no idea where to go for this kind of stuff. Being in Switzerland doesn't help either. -
Sorry, no chain, just a specific laptop repair shop in my area.
You can try online, here is one example: http://www.notebook-displaysdirekt.de/lg-philips-lp156wf4-spb1-laptop-bildschirme
Or check some older post in this thread for links. -
Thanks all for the information you provided. I got tired of looking at the crappy screen and went with an AUO B156HAN01.2 from VTEK Screen on Amazon. They shipped quickly and the screen was well packed. It was pretty easy to install and looks fabulous!

Thanks ATG. I think I'll be going with what you recommended. I found a computer repair shop willing to do it which is nice.
-
The B1 is glossy if I recall correctly, keep that in mind. -
tyrannosaurus_rex Notebook Consultant
Well you did say it was good so that's what matters for me and since most people seem pleased with it.
Do you remember the official response time ?
The thing with Matte is that I'm afraid this is the reason why my screen looks foggy and completely dull since I think I've been using Glossy the past 4 years. Not sure if its the reason but I would rather go full vivid. -
I said I like my panel which is H1 not B1.
Many people upgraded to B1 though and they are happy with it. I don't like it because I hate glossy screens. On the other hand glossy displays are brighter than matte so bottom line is its your pick, whatever suits you.
I don't remember the response time, check panelook.com. I remember something like 35ns but not sure. -
tyrannosaurus_rex Notebook Consultant
Did you mean ms ? Isn't 35 really slow ?
-
Yeah ms, sorry, I made my last posts from my phone so..
Yeah, its 35ms - http://www.panelook.com/LP156WF4-SPB1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_parameter_17533.html
Yes, its significantly slower than the TN panel you currently have. But as I already said, at least in my case I don't notice the higher response time in the things I do with my machine. -
tyrannosaurus_rex Notebook Consultant
well damn it just when I thought I had something. I can see how this can be a big deal for me. Is the OP still being updated or should I skim through the thread to find other potential displays ?
-
AFAIK most of the compatible IPS panels have significantly higher response time than your TN panel. If you need better response time I think your best choice is B156HAN01.2 - 25ms.

Alright I'll look into it. I hope its a good screen too.

What does this mean ? I'm about to use this website to order something, does that still stand ? -
But in-case you have a better idea of what excellent should mean - tell me via PM -
tyrannosaurus_rex Notebook Consultant
Well it looks like your screens are badly inventoried but you already said why and it makes sense. However, considering how the glossy, matte models are confused, I'm not sure if the out of stock is true.
Can you confirm if you have some AUO B156HAN01.2 GLOSSY in stock ?
If not then I will go for the LP156WF4(SP)(B1) which should be Glossy right ? (you list glossy and matte but I think its a glossy only model). -

I did it a few minutes after. I do believe that those info could be useful to other members though, since its about screens availability.

To those who changed it manually, what's the size of the screws ? And the shape, cross or a line?
-
So has anyone used the IPS display that comes on some of the new Y50's to upgrade their old TN screened ones? I'm just wondering if they are compatible, how it went, and if its worth the upgrade.
-
Hi everyone and thanks a lot for this guide, but I was wondering, what's the difference between the B156HAN01.1 and the B156HAN01.2? Which one should I get (since these seem to be the two most popular ones)?
I apologise in advance if this has already been answered, but with 119 pages it would be great if someone knew the final verdict. -
Hi dude,
Do you have an idea if this model B156HTN03.0 works with Y50. Please let me know.

I got the LP156WF4(SP)J1 glossy and managed to install it. It was fairly tedious, especially since one screw was basically stuck and I completely ruined it trying to take it off.
Beware about that, I think they all come with one ****ed up screw. Regardless I had to take it to an electronic repair shop to take it off. Also plugging it was a pain in the ass, there's not way to grab it and pull it toward the other side precisely.
I'm now using the screen but I noticed that, first of all its very dark. Not the Brightness, but the colors. Also, the viewing angles make everything at the bottom of the screen darker, whereas everything at the top of the screen is brighter.
EDIT : I started using an application called flux which solved most of these issues. My brightness works too now. The colours are still fairly dark, though flux in high solves that.Last edited: May 1, 2015 -
Best IPS screen for multimedia? I use to game but I prefer a better video and image quality rather than faster response times. No matter if it's glossy or matte surface, I just want a good image quality screen.
Where should I buy too? There must be shipment to Spain...
The last screen I bought (Samsung pls) was terrible with absolutely no brightness...Last edited: May 3, 2015 -
Any suggestion? My personal choice is the worst screen I ever seen as it's barely visible. -
^^
Aliexpress delivers to Spain. There are some local shop as well, for example piezasportatil.com and portatilmovil.com.
As for what panel to buy...most people here buy AUO or LG, they are both fine for multimedia IMO. If you want better brightness and more vivid colors I hear glossy panels are the way to go, matte is better for outdoors but they tend to provide lower brightness. -
So I need an specific IPS model, with good color and brightness conditions, and a trustful seller who ships to Spain REAL models.
I'm asking everything, I know, but at least I don't wanna fail again...
I guess best choices are:
B156HAN01.2 AUO
LP156WF4 SPD1 LG
But... Where to buy both or them? I see the LG in this link:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-LG-LP...SPD1-15-6-LED-LAPTOP-IPS-SCREEN-/400779547508
But I cannot find out where to buy the original AUO model...Last edited: May 16, 2015 -
Hay every one,
I found out that I have the screen model b156htn03.6 which model can be compatible with this i have y50 and i need ips replacement panel -
Hello everyone,
Im reading this thread for a long time. Also planning to upgrade my machineAs you know, LENOVO desided to put a proper panel to our laptops. Here is the info about it:
http://laptopmedia.com/review/lenov...powerhouse-got-even-better/#display-and-sound
"The manufacturer is LG with model number LP156WF4_SPL1 with diagonal of 15.6″ and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels."
http://www.panelook.com/LP156WF4-SPL1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_22815.html -
I've this thread for a while and I followed LSB instructions on how to properly order a exact laptop screen. I ordered a B156HAN01.1 model from laptopscreen.com and put in the order notes that I wanted the exact model, and didn't want a compatible model. Reason I wanted the exact B156HAN01.1 was bacause it had eDP1.3, which gives the screen a powersaving feature. Instead of them canceling the order, they ignored my request and give me the B156HAN01.2 model, which has eDP1.2 and not eDP1.3. I'm trying to pm LSB, but can't find no option to do that.
Edit: Nevermind, problem being resolved by laptopscreen support. -
It seems all the screen suppliers list 'compatible' screens, through use of very misleading language.
What you are getting is 2nd or 3rd rate stock bulk/generic stuff not up to the standards of the factory QA.
If anyone knows a place that for sure sells exactly the panels being requested that would be great. -
I've read everywhere for any information on the y50 touch model screen replacement. So far, the only information I found was that I need to convert the touch to a non-touch panel. And it seems the steps
are quite confusing. I understand I need a new non-touch IPS screen and a LID + Bezel but what version LID + Bezel do I need? There are a lot of non-touch LID+Bezel from ebay but can't find a lot of the touch version.
I hope to hear back from you.

The non touch lid and bezels on Ebay are all the same. They list them differently or with different names but the parts should be exactly the same or rather are exactly the same.
Try to buy authentic parts if you can like good working pulls from used computer etc.
AttackOfTheMike did use his stock touch LCD cable so you should be fine. It didnt work for me because the first screen i ordered was found to be defective from the reseller so you should be good there as well.
Hinges move over from touch model so yes all your need is lid, bezel and screen and you are on your way. -
-
Sorry this thread is a bit hard for me to follow. What is the consensus on the 'best' IPS screen to replace the Lenovo Y50 non-touch FHD TN panel display?
-
I think the consensus was the AUO B156HAN01.2 is the best screen because it had slightly faster response times but people have had similar results with the LG and Samsung models listed in this thread as well.rastareaper likes this. -
the other I don't remember the name = slightly better for gaming, okay replacement from the stock screen.rastareaper likes this. -
I made an order from Ebay to get the ---> 15,6" LED Display B156HAN01.2
The sellers name was 'lcd_supplier '.
It was received with a moderate bleed and a dead pixel. He has a ''99% positive reputation''. Even though my experience was that I didn't get the screen on time as indicated on the merchants Ebay page.
Since I ordered the screen from abroad, living in Europe, if I want to send it back I would have to pay shipment charges which can run up to 40% of the price paid for the unit . The screen cost me 100 USD equivalent including shipment.
Since I'm new to Ebay, from what I understand the seller and the client share the risk.
I just wonder whether it's worth sending it in, what if I get another defective unit. I can't keep paying 20-40 USD+- every time till I get a unit in good condition...
UPDATE 09.06.2015
Ebay disabled access to return the item in my account because I wanted to change the conditions for the refund due to a dispute with the shop that sells on the auction site. Customer service of Ebay said 'cannot help you with your technical issue'. And the seller is laughing his butt off because I am stuck with a defective LCD unit and the reseller shop is not liable for anything because Ebay does not reinforce legal proceedings upon sellers.
So my advice to those wanting to replace the original Y50 screen: buy your screen from a proper shop with good customer service. Ebay seems like a rip off in my opinion.Last edited: Jun 9, 2015
