If you separate the glass from that stock screen it will destroy the whole thing I have already explained this in the thread I think more then once so don't do it or do it and come back and tell me you shouldn't have that is your choice .

Some touch screen laptops they use a regular screen behind a piece of glass but Lenovo decided not to do this and the glass is part of the screen which is hard to explain but basically on most LCD screens glossy or matte that coating is like a protector for whats behind it but in this case there is nothing behind that glass so it just ruins the whole thing. I believe the word is diffuser and the Lenovo touch screen the glass is also the diffuser.

I went from a touch screen to non touch with the right parts . LID,bezel,LCD cable and a new screen.

Attackofthemike up above just replaced the LID and bezel and screen he did not need a new LCD cable as his touch screen cable worked fine with the new LCD he got. Im sure your can PM him and ask exacty what LCD he used along with the supplier he ordered from.

You can order the LCD lid and bezel as a kit on Ebay china for around $80 shipped. The hinges and everything else carries over just fine. The Touch lid and the non touch lid are different so keep that in mind as the touch lid has no mounting holes.

This is not for the faint of heart. Its easy but might be intimidating to some people so I cant just tell people to run out and do It unless they are comfortable getting there hands dirty and potentially screwing something up.

Guys i am in a great dillema and since this is the most active thread on the internet about this specific laptop i would greatly appreciate some advice.
I am looking for a gaming laptop that corresponds to my budget and this is the only one that i found for only 825€ and has specs that other similar laptops would offer for more than 1200€ which is a great deal of money. I have read everything about the horrible display on both the FHD and UHD model and since it's the only weak spot of the laptop, it discourages me a bit to buy it. I read though that it can become the perfect budget gaming laptop with just a screen replacement. On the other hand, i have been hearing the rumors that the new revision of the Y50 is coming out with a new IPS panel and the GTX 960M. The CPU will also be new but its almost identical in performance to the current one. The rest (HDD,RAM etc.) are gonna be pretty much the same. The thing is that when this comes out, it will be priced a lot higher just as the current Y50 revision when it first came out, at around 1100-1200€ which is a huge difference also.

    My questions are:
    1) Is it worth it to just buy the current version and upgrade the screen? If yes then which exact screen replacement i have to buy? I have read about a lot of models in this thread and i would like to know which is the absolute best in quality as i need this laptop only for gaming (FPS,Moba).
    2) Is it better to wait for the new version and pay the extra 300-400€ for just a screen upgrade and the new GPU? I read that the 960 will be just a rebrand of the current already Maxwell 860 so it shouldnt have such a big performance difference. I could be wrong...

    Help me please!
    Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to report back: I purchased the LG LP156WF4(SP)(U1) for my Y50; it is glossy and IPS. The colors and viewing angles are phenomenal, it's a world of difference from the stock panel. Also; I play a lot of DOTA and have noticed a very slight visual lag because of the high response time, but it is nowhere near bad, it is completely tolerable. I care much more about the quality than the response time though, so there's my two cents. It cost me about $90 from Ebay, and of course it wasn't actually listed. I contacted the seller and they told me they had this in stock at the moment, so it worked out. If you want to buy one, here is the link to the seller:

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odk...TRC0.H0.XLP156WF4.TRS0&_nkw=LP156WF4&_sacat=0

Be sure to contact them and ask what they have in stock to get an exact model. Overall I was very happy with their service and the screen.

    Hey guys!
I received my B156HAN01.2 today and it looks absolutely amazing.
I think it's not necessary to provide any pictures as you guys should already know how awesome it looks ;)
But at least I can tell you that I have zero issues with this screen, no dead pixels, no light bleed and no image retention.
I bought it from laptopukparts on ebay. They respond pretty quickly on emails an the shipping didn't took too long.

Quick question, has anyone had any response time or input lag complaints about their B156HAN01.2 displays?

So has anyone replaced their stock display with another TN display for gaming? I'd be interested in another screen but not an IPS one that introduces display problems while gaming.

Which replacement TN panels have been used?

Hey guys, Does anybody know the difference between all of these models? I cant seem to find anything online.

    LP156WF4(SP)(H3)
    LP156WF4(SP)(H1)
    LP156WF4(SP)(D1)

I know the bottom one is the one most people buy, and that it's Matte. But what are the other ones? There seems to be a lot of variations of this screen. I have no idea what the differences are.

Laptopscreen.com doesn't have the SPD1 in Vancouver (Or much of anything at the moment in Vancouver Other than the B156HAN.), so i'm trying to figure out if any of these other options are worthwhile.

    Thanks.

I would give it a few more weeks before someone responds to what Lenovo is using for screens.

I noticed someone else asked the same question the day Lenovo started selling the updated model lol.

It can take weeks before people actually get one of these in there hands.

It really depends on how price sensitive you are. If it were me, I would wait and get the new one for the new GPU and the new screen. But as you mentioned you will be passing up some nice closeout deals on the 2014 models. I can tell you though the 860 GPU has run everything I've thrown at it really well, so either way you are in good shape.

thank you so much for your time to reply...that's exactly what i think...with just a screen replacement i think the 2014 model can become just as good as the upcoming 2015 model...

I recently purchased the B156HAN01.2 from Lcdtech889 and tried to install the new display onto my Y50 but a problem I'm currently facing is that the pin will not sit flush and I've been struggling to try to push it all the way in. I don't wanna push it too hard and ruin anything. Are there any suggestions?

    Hm.

I bought this (Lenovo Y50-70 w. i5-4210H, GTX860M 2GB, guessing its Kepler and 1TB hybrid etc.) for 6490SEK / €690 / £500 / $770 and I think its quite a steal but originally I was looking for a new 5th-gen i5 processor and around 13-14" pref. with an SSD and 802.11ac. Will be using it almost exclusively in school where I might (stress: might) run VM:s on it but thought the price was so good I bought this instead of what I had in mind originally. Now I'm thinking if I didn't think this through. A new screen seems to be a "must" and it will cost me around 700SEK / €75 / £55 / $80 and a 250GB SSD together with an 802.11ac mPCIE card (Intel 7260 Rev 2) will be around twice the amount for the screen so a total of "extras" amounting to: 2000SEK. That lands the computer in the area of 8500SEK but even with my "optional" (well excluding switching the monitor anyway, seems to be mandatory) accessories it is still cheap and on par if not better then computers that are 8990SEK and a bit above. I'm wondering if I should hold off until the 960M/965M? 965M seems to perform around 30% better then the 860M and the 960M seems to be the 860M (Maxwell) w. minor adjustments so perhaps a 10% increase?
The thing is I was not even set on a "gaming" laptop, getting a 940M when it was released would have been fine, even the integrated Intel-graphics would have been OK (would have prefered an entry Nvidia 9-series GPU though). I was thinking about the i5-5200U at first people! Ah, the curse of loving tech (and "bargains").

Now to what I was going to write haha:
Is there a consensus around which IPS-panel is best for the Y50-70?
B156HAN01.2 vs. B156HAN01.1, is the 1.1 older and the 1.2 newer and that is all?
Found the B156HAN01.2 on Ebay for $82 here and guessing I'm just going to message the seller and check that it works with the Lenovo Y50-70 then pull the trigger?
Also found this which is a bit more (charges for shipping) but states it is compatible with the Y50, seems to need to specify in order to get the B156HAN01.2 otherwise you will get a "compatible" display and glossy/matte seems to be random (unless I'm guessing you specify it).

I hope this is the right place to ask. I just bought a Lenovo y50 UHD 15.6" laptop this week. I'm looking to convert the display to a touch display but don't know a single thing about what to do. Should I just get a digitizer overlay, or do I need a whole new 4k display with the digitizer built in?
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

All Y50's are Maxwell as far as we know.

    Check out the Y40-80.

    http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y40-80/

I don't know if it's available in Sweden yet. It's pretty much got everything. On the model that's about 7100 SEK (And probably less other places--they have LOTS of sales on the Y40 because I don't think it's selling as well) you get:

    -5500U (5th Gen i7)
-4GB AMD M275 (midrange, about a 6/10 on graphics compared to an 8/10 on the 860M, but you said you aren't doing a lot of gaming anyway)
    -512GB SSD (No joke...)
    -8 GB RAM
-A decent screen (From what I hear, it's not great but better than the Y50 and also upgradable)
    -AC WiFi

and It's 14". I think that literally covers all your needs and wants (one downside is the lack of a backlit keyboard), all while being cheaper than your final Y50 build. Replacing the screen should cost the same or less ( http://www.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/replacing-lenovo-y40-display-good-one/) and the model is literally the same model but with a 14 instead of a 15 (B140HAN...) and you'll end up ahead. In fact, I probably would have gone with the Y40-80 if it was out when I was in the market for a laptop.

    Hope this helps!

Hello everybody, I'm looking to a WXGA (1366x768) IPS screen panel compatible with the lenovo Y50 laptop.
    I've found this : LP156WHA-SPA1. A IPS screen but with a EDP-30P2L-020A (JAE HD2S030HA1) connector instead of EDP-30P2L-020A (I-PEX 20455-030E-02) !
Is it compatible or is there an adapter to this panel connector ?

^^ According to panelook.com SPA1 e interface is EDP-30P 1L-030A(JAE HD2S030HA1), a 1 Lane eDP vs 2 Lane eDP which is the interface all successful replacement panels for Y50 use.
No idea if it would work, maybe..

    Thanks for the tip!
The Y40-80 don't seem to be released here yet although I will be travelling to the U.S. (Washington DC and NYC) in about two weeks. Hm.
Too bad the dollar is really high now (1USD = 8SEK, earlier it was around 6SEK), checked out BestBuy and the gaming laptops they offered as well as the price wasn't so convincing.

No idea, sorry. The only other IPS with these specs I find it again LG, the SPA2 model but its again 1 Lane eDP.

In my opinion it should work, physically the interface should be the same(30 pin eDP) and in theory if the controller support 2 lane(2.7Gbps data rate) panels it should also support 1 lane(1.62Gbps) panels. I'm applying the same logic of backward compatibility as say SATA2 vs SATA1 here but I'm not sure if eDP is designed that way. Also there are other factors that might be involved - power, VBIOS, BIOS etc so no way to be sure..

    I will try to get hold of a Samsung LTN156HL01 screen. It is a PLS panel / 300 cdm2 / 600 contrast / viewing angle: 85 / response time: 30ms / Glossy/matte.

When the part arrives I will upload pictures before and after replacement.

So im trying to decide between getting a Y50 with the stock IPS panel that they offer now Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop - 59440646 and upgrading to a SSD ($999 + $235 850 evo 500gb). Or getting one with an SSD
Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop - 59421863 already installed and replacing the crappy TN screen with AUO B156HAN01.1 or 1.2 if i can find one ($1099 + $90 or so). Seems easier to go the first route but dont know if the new IPS screens that Lenovo has put into the Y50 are any good.

I called Lenovo and from what i understand the IPS screen that comes with the 59440646 is

LG LP156WF4(SP)(L1), can anyone tell me if its any good?

Also thanks to all who have came up with great information and tutorials for us less knowledgeable users.

^^The brightness the SPL1 provides kinda sucks compared to SPD1 o the AUO 1.2, its only 220 cd/m2.

Thanks good point the 220 cd/m2 of the SPL1 vs 300 cd/m2 on the others is important to me as I will be using the laptop often in brightly lighten rooms.

Don't waste any time with this... definitely replace the Y50 LCD with a new one. what a difference! ScreenS was awesome. Overnight (even though I selected standard shipping). Went with the B156HAN01.2. No ghosting so far, great color, GREAT viewing angle. went matte finish. First one came damaged, middle of screen was black. sent them pics over email and they refunded me in minutes and free return. few weeks later, they were back in stock and new screen is in and loving it so far (2 hours). Took 10 minutes to install.

Hey guys, I just got the AUO B156HAN01.2. It installed and works fine. But i want to calibrate it. What's the best way to do so?

Is there a settings guide? or a utility that will help?

Thanks to anybody who has any information.

EDIT: i've also noticed that the screen is slightly smaller than the bezel on my Y50 on the top right. and half as much on the left hand side. like the screen is down and to the left a bit. It's in the pegs on the top panel, and screwed in correctly, so i'm curious if this is just how theses fit? It's not a big deal at all, just curious.

Just to report in: I have had the LG LP156WF4(SP)(U1) (glossy IPS) for several weeks now, and after that time it has now started ghosting (image retention, whatever you like to call it) pretty hardcore on the edges of the display (about an inch wide). Unfortunately it's hard to say if mine is faulty or it is a recurring issue with this model, so buy at your own discretion.

Also to reiterate, I also owned the AUO B156HAN01.2 and it had horrible and immediate image retention and I returned after a few hours of testing it to ensure it was faulty.

I assure you I am not, I actually used the screen. Installed it, played DOTA for several hours, closed it, could still clearly see DOTA on top of everything. Checked connection, reboot, more usage testing, no change. It was bad. Please don't try to correct me, I know what I'm saying and I meant it.

Hey guys, I bought the B156HAN01.2 from ScreenS on Amazon for my Y50. The display is gorgeous, with excellent colors and viewing angles. However, I noticed the slower response time immediately (it's 25 ms according to Amazon), and while it's alright for most activities, it gets pretty annoying when playing games, especially those that require more precision. I'm planning on returning this display and finding one that's more adequate for gaming. Does anyone know of another compatible FHD display with great colors (hopefully IPS) with better response time? (or perhaps a website where I can look for one) I've heard of laptops with IPS displays with 5 ms response time, something like that would be perfect and fix the only problem I have with this otherwise flawless laptop (I got the version with 4GB of VRAM, 16GB of RAM and 512 SSD, it's a real beast).

I dropped out of this thread a while back, and I've returned to see if there's any screens that can replace the UHD 4k display yet?
Or has anyone been successful in narrowing it down to maybe some screens that could replace it?
I just HATE this display, but love this laptop.

Doesn't seem we found any UHD screens Stuff_

On another note I found this http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Laptop-spare-parts-15-6-LCD_1973253843.html
seems to be promising at 6ms and anywhere I search this screen, I don't ever see mixed results IE: one site says 8ms another says 25.
    anyone tried this screen?
I may actually go for this one.. and I may get Glossy (though I like matte) but hey, if its not so good, Hopefully glossy will bring it to life.

grhh it's a LED wow.. there just really isn't any good screens out their..

Haha, I feel you man. Popping in after a few months. Great laptop. Sub-par screen. I can see the pixels, even in 4K (pentile matrix now commonly being refered to as f4Ke 3k)

Is there any IPS with good response time? The screens recommended on this thread don't have good response times, I want to see movies on an IPS screen, but I also play FPS a lot and i'm not sure it's worth sacrificing gaming for better display.

    Hi.

I'm here just to tell you my thoughts about the Samsung SDC5344.

First of all, I bought it as a PLS Samsung screen, LTN156HL01 model. I don't really know If it's the very SDC5344 model or if it's different. What do you think?

Anyways, it looks really awesome, good colour representation, excellent viewing angles but.... EXTREMELY low brightness. I don't really know if it's a common issue/characteristic or if I have a defective unit.

I don't think there can be any fix for this, I only want to confirm if it is an issue of my unit or a common characteristic for this model.
