Probably a dumb question- but would it be possible to get a QHD IPS that would be compatible?

Reason I ask is I want a matte QHD screen (I use it outdoors a lot) and the Y50 QHD only comes in gloss...

Honestly, you aren't really using what a normal person would consider a 1ms panel. What you have is marketing picking two similar colors and saying it only takes 1ms to change between them. I've never seen anything get below about 10ms in reality. Best way to test is with a high speed camera comparing an unknown screen to a high speed one (plasma or crt) where both show a clock down to the milliseconds.

That said, you may notice some blurring with the IPS panels in fast paced gameplay. If you're the type that considers 30fps painfully choppy, then a TN panel is better for you.

Watch out when ordering the LTN156HL01-101 from laptopscreen.com. I asked support and say they only stock the compatible N156HGE-EB1 atm. Would the N156HGE-EB1 be as good as the LTN156HL01-101? I can't tell is its pls or not?

Are you sure that's not a TN screen? And how do you know that the 102 is used on the GS60? How do you know that screen is used on the Q501? This site listed it as TN(and didn't post viewing angles, response time and contrast ratio like it does for other screens) SAMSUNG LTN156HT01-101 Overview - Panelook.com

So replace the screen with B156HAN01 2 would affect the gaming experience?

significantly affect the fps and / or response time?

Your condescension is most appreciated but I apologize that I'm not the greatest at Google searching(I made various attempts at doing so and found nothing that gave me the answers, such as copying and pasting panel codes posted into the search bar) a specific component of a laptop that most don't have to worry about replacing. Overlooking one letter in a 9 character code is a mistake I'll never make again(I was looking at the LTN at the start anyway).

But thanks anyway. That's what I was looking for.

I'm looking forward to replace my panel as well.

LAPTOP SCREEN from $34.99, replacement LCD screens. Repair Tablet, Acer, Apple, iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Asus, Gateway. unfortunately ships from USA and I live in europe, it's not a good deal for me.

I searched on ebay and i found this:
LG Philips LP156WF4(SP)(D1) Compatible 15.6" LED Laptop Screen | eBay

It is a LP156WF4(SP)(D1) compatible. Do you think I can safely assume it is going to be a decent IPS display?

Wow, thanks so much for that link. I pulled the trigger on it about an hour ago, combining Tigerdirect's first time customer $15 off purchase AND amex offers for you $15 off $50+ tigerdirect order.

Is the hard drive just an HDD or is it a hybrid? Either way it's not a big deal, I plan on replacing it with a 480-512gb SSD before the year is out.

My IPS screen is arriving today so I thought I'd so some comparison shots for folks. However, iPhones are incredibly bad at capturing the screen. I'm wonder if this is the reason for so much hate online for the original panels. If all you see is some cell phone snaps of the screen, it looks horrifyingly bad at any angle - and this is on a phone with one of the better cameras on the market.

Just installed a LP156WF4-SPD1 panel. Gorgeous display, but there is some noticeable light bleed in the bottom corners. I got the matte version and I'd say the only obvious difference between this and my GS60 is the light bleed. It's not terrible, but I can't help but see it on the boot screen. I doubt I'll be a problem in a detailed image like a game or movie.

I ordered from Laptopscreen.com on Tuesday night with the default shipping and it arrived on Friday. Better turnaround than I expected from a non-Amazon place.

I was on the fence about upgrading because I thought the default screen was perfectly usable. However, it's now my main laptop and if you're gonna be using something 8+ hours every day then you might as well make sure it's gorgeous!

$99.94 shipped. After ordering, they also offered a $20 refund if you make a good video guide of the install process. Smart move, but after my pitiful results when attempting to take a picture I decided to pass on that.

Compatible means it might be that specific panel, or another panel that is "compatible" with it. If you want that specific panel, make sure you say so in your order.

    Thanks.
I understand saying "LP156WF4SPD1 compatible" does not identify a specific LCD panel, but a family.

How can I specify the RIGHT panel to the seller?

Is there another model number to specify? Or I have to ask "I want a LP156WF4SPD1, not a compatible one"?

    Thank you :)

No problem, do note my experience with Tigerdirect sales/customer support is really bad. So don't expect much from them. It's a hybrid drive, I started noticing startup improvements about a week or so in.

Apologies if you've already answered, but was this the particular screen you ordered? https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/LP156WF4(SP)(D1)/

Was there any special instructions you had to give laptopscreen.com? Some forum posters are saying you need to specify the particular model number and not a "compatible" one.

Yes, I purchased the matte version of that and received exactly that version. I didn't provide any special instructions since I figured they either provide me something with the exact stats I ordered or they pay for return shipping.

    Hi,
I'm a total noob when it comes to identifying these panels. Are one of these below (listed in the 1st post) a TN panel or are all 3 IPS?

    Compatible screens
    *B156HAN01.2 - confirmed by testpecimen
    *LP156WF4(SP)(B1) - confirmed by AltCtrl
    *LP156WF4(SP)(D1) - Confirmed by shillydwagon

It was mentioned in a recent post, that there is some slight latency when playing fast games on an IPS vs TN and since FPS games are my favorite, which of the IPS panels listed is the "fastest"?

Is there a way for me to decode this info and what other differences there are between them on Panelook.com ? Such as: text sharpness, power consumption, etc. Also (B1) vs (D1) diff?

In short, of the 3, which seems to be the best?

Thanks very much for this thread!

Just verified the bad customer service. Between yesterday when I placed the order and sometime today, the same laptop (same exact specs, different item #) went on sale for another $20 off my purchase price. I called up asking to cancel my order and they said they couldn't because it already shipped (which I question because that'd be pretty fast shipping for a Saturday afternoon order AND when I check my order status tigerdirect says order is still pending) and they would not price match because the other laptop was being sold by a different vendor/merchant. The guy said the best he could offer me to do is to refuse shipment when it arrives. Not sure if it's worth $20 or not, but I can be quite the miser. You'd think they would want to keep their customers happy and save themselves a few dollars and return shipping and just mark down my order by $20....

Yes, they are atrocious. I am being shipped a new laptop since apparently they think that'll fix the IPS panel issue (yes they think it's a problem with their stock not their spec sheet). I am getting the next laptop from their COMP USA warehouse in FL instead of their main HQ in IL. Regarding your price issue, they have a price protection policy, I would point it out to them - they are being very silly here, you refusing the shipment will cost them practically the same in shipping fees as giving you your deserved $20 off. Except they also lose a customer in the process. See their price protection policy below. I am waiting on comments from those who ordered the SAMSUNG LPS screen, very curious to hear how it is!

    TigerDirect.com's Price Protection Policy:

If TigerDirect.com reduces it’s regularly advertised price, or if you find a lower advertised price from a Qualifying Competitor, during the advertised return period offered on an item you purchased from TigerDirect.com; simply contact us and TigerDirect.com will issue you a TigerDirect.com credit in the amount of the price difference good toward the future purchase of products sold by TigerDirect.com. This price protection policy only applies to regularly advertised products and it's limited to two (2) Price Protections per item, per household.

Qualifying Competitors are: Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Buy.com, CDW.com, Costco.com, Crutchfield.com. Exclusions from the TigerDirect.com Price Protection Policy: Items with mail-in rebates, coupons, private offers, auctions, open box items, items offered below TigerDirect.com’s actual cost, limited quantity and close out items or other promotions or offers and may not be used in conjunction with other discounts. Due to fluctuations in the industry, CPU’s, Memory, Hard Disk Drives and products or bundles containing the categories listed above as ingredients (examples include Desktop and laptop computers) are not included in the TigerDirect.com Price Protection Policy. Prices on the categories listed above are subject to frequent change and TigerDirect.com cannot offer price protection on these items and products in the event prices rise or fall. The TigerDirect.com Price Match and Price Protection policies do not apply in the event of advertising errors and will only be honored during the date ranges of the competitive offer. Competitors’ services are not included in the TigerDirect.com Best Price Promise. NOTE: this is the LTN156HL01 which turned out to be the LTN156HL01-102, instead of the 101 the other guy ordered, but I think there will be minimal differences. the 4k screen is essentially this except with higher resolution

Hey guys, I received the LTN156HL01-101 earlier than I expected so I wanted to show you guys some comparison shots. It looks like someone else has already posted some comparison pictures but I thought I might as well post mine as well. Oh yea, before you look at these, I wanted everyone to know that I had the same issues that shillydwagon had when he first put in his panel; ghosting, horrible burn-ins, and general weirdness. It seems IPS or PLS screens simply need time to warm up or something because after a good 5-7 minutes of just letting the laptop run with the screen on, the issues seemed to go away entirely. Anyhow, back to the comparison pictures:

    laptop5a.jpg
    laptop5b.jpg

Sorry that the angles of the hinge don't match up exactly and that the quality of the pictures could be better but even so there is clearly a big difference between the two and it has made the laptop much more enjoyable to use. I highly recommend spending the extra 100 dollars for the replacement.

Thanks for sharing! I'm definitely making the plunge and replacing my screen -- just down the point of deciding which. This one looks great, but I'm curious to see more shots other models.

I'd be willing to take a gamble on a different one from laptopscreen, but the site doesn't have enough info to blindly make a purchase, so I won't.

Out of curiosity I contacted laptopscreens customer service to understand if they had the LP156WF4(SP)(D1) original display.
After a quick chat, last reply from them was:

Currently we do not stock any Full-HD IPS Screen

So.. they do not have it, and the compatible one they sell are not IPS.

    Other good places to buy?

Hey guys to clarify a question someone asked me about replacing the screen with a LTN156HL01-101 panel, the burn-in and ghosting stuff only happened when I first put in the screen, not every time I booted it up. It seems to work perfectly well now.

I'd like to make my first post here by confirming compatibility of B156HAN01.1. I had ordered the B156HAN01.2 but got instead B156HAN01.1 as compatible display but there seem to be very little difference. According to panelook, the B156HAN01.1 is a newer display with an eDP 1.3 port rather than the eDP 1.1a of the B156HAN01.2. Take a look at the comparison on Panel Specification Compare - Panelook.com

I'll try and get some pictures of the new screen but I haven't got any of the original (Chi Mei) to compare.

For SerpantSlayer: I am currently in the UK so I ordered from http://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk who had it delivered the next day, packaged well with no problems at all.

Thanks SerpantSlayer, I'm a bit afraid of far shipments but I'll try. Any good vendor you already contacted?

Wow, this looks good for UE buyers.
They have the (SP)(B1) screen from LG... it's matte, I don't really like it but it may be a go.

Any reason you bought that panel instead of an IPS one?
    edit: my bad, it's IPS.
And it's cheaper than the LG.
Too bad it is Matte as well...

I did a bit of research and it seems there is no compatible ips "touch screen" for the y50 yet. I am very disappointed at lenovo! why ruin this beautiful machine with an awful screen? anyways, I hope they do make an ips panel for it sometimes within the next few months.

Unfortunately I don't think Lenovo is going to do that.
