I think all the screens on this thread only come in matte:/ And I would make sure you ask customer service before purchasing because its more than likely they will send you a cheaper compatible panel.

Whoa whoa whoa there!
This information is 100% incorrect.
We currently have the brand new LG's LP156WF4(SP)(D1) & LP156WF4(SP)(B1) for Matte finish and
LG's LP156WF4(SP)(C1) for the Glossy version. (And we had these for quite some time)
I have searched the chat conversation history for the keywords this poster is referring to, and I was not able to find anything of the sorts.
It is asinine to state " Currently we do not stock any Full-HD IPS Screen"
We have dozens of IPS screens in-stock right now!!!fragpic, Plexabit, ejdoura and 1 other person like this. -

We'd send out the LG's LP156WF4(SP)(D1) & LP156WF4(SP)(B1) for Matte selection, or LG's LP156WF4(SP)(C1) if you choose Glossy. -
For custom questions regarding LCD upgrades and specific models we have in-stock right now it is best to PM me instead of heading to our regular support contacts.
I reply via e-mail and usually with-in the same day.
Officially we do not recommend LCD upgrades due to the experimental nature of the endeavor and thus the support department will be limited in information required to answer your highly technical and specific questions, which I can address with a more individualized approach.
NBR has been a valuable community to our business, and we welcome all inquiries, questions and comments regarding our services.

Did I undestand the information I got wrong? -
Sorry if this has been asked already... I've been reading up on notebooks for 2 months now and cannot bring myself to take in much more information.
If I were to purchase the 4k model of the computer which screen would I buy? I kind of want to replace the 4k screen with a better 4k 60ghz IPS panel instead of the crappy one they put in by default.
If that's not possible... Do I need the 4g graphic card version? I heard it was more power efficient or something... It's $200 more so I was wondering if it was worth it.
Thanks. -
Will have my y50 soon but unsure of what screen to get for it, any suggestions?
-
I am interested in the LG glossy panel you mentioned for my Y50. My two questions are when I go to your store site, why isn't IPS mentioned under the specs? Also, just to confirm, this is an actual LG panel?

I don't blame you for misunderstanding the information as it was presented to you. It should have been presented differently.
The person answering meant to say it with the addition of the following context:
- for this compatibility profile
- in this surface finish
- in our Vancouver warehouse
They should have been a lot more clearer on these factors, as we obviously have FullHD IPS panels, and more than 1 warehouse.
My apologies for this :|
I'll clarify the situation in the ticket.
For the NBR folk (upgrade crazed enthusiasts)
PM me your questions when it comes to specific model numbers. Please include the thread link and some background info on what you are trying to do and with what.
I will review ALL the information, before providing any rushed answers. -
I think LSB we all have the same question what IPS screens do you have that are compatible with Lenovo's new Y50 and what are their specis? Most of us on this thread are non-touch users (myself included), and we are just looking to swap out our crappy TN's, followed by helping touch users do the same (if even possible). Anyone you answer in PM would hopefully share your information with the public regardless, so we may as well skip that step and keep things open.

Currently we have the "LP156WF4(SP)(D1)" in Seattle
If you follow this link: https://www.laptopscreen.com/884218/
You should receive that exact model.
*(Subject to physical quantities - include "EXACT MODEL NEEDED" in the "Notes field" when submitting the order)
If you PM me with your order number immediately after you order, you WILL receive this exact model.

First time poster here. I just wanted to thank everyone in this thread for helping me and others who were on the fence with getting a Y50 because of its lackluster screen see that it was an easy and cheap replacement. After seeing the pictures showing the differences, I took the plunge and am planning on replacing the screen with the LP156WF4(SP)(D1).
Also I'd like to bring to people's attention that those of you who have a Bank of America credit card (and in the US I'm guesing?) can possibly get 10% cash back the Y50 from Tigerdirect from BankAmeriDeals. I already ordered one and will update to see if it's true. The offer seems to run until Aug. 8. The money you save could go directly to the screen replacement. -
Good point neoanime, $15 cash back for those with an Amex card. I noticed it after my purchase. Tomorrow I receive my replacement laptop, will let people know if somehow the COMP USA stock that Tigerdirect ships from is different than their main warehouse (they claim it's better - not sure what that means though).
-
Hi,can anyone tell me the difrence between this 2 models LP156WF4-SPB1 andLP156WF4-SPD1.
Thanks in advance,cheers. -
My only regret is that I already bougth the screen somewhere else, and it's a Matte B1. I'd rather have the glossy D1 you are selling.
C'est la vie -
-
Are we only limited to 1080p screens or could a higher resolution screen be used if its edp?
-
To report, tigerdirect's 2nd unit they sent me (which they claimed would fix the IPS problem) is also a Chi Mei TN screen. Be aware. That said, the link I shared earlier is still one of the better deals out there, even if you pay ~$100 to buy a replacement screen.

I've been following this thread very closely and decided to get a matte LP156WF4(SP)(D1) from laptopscreen.com. After some initial confusion over whether they stock the particular model I PM'd LSB and he had me sorted out and even overnight-ed me the screen. Thank you for the prompt service, Mr LSB.
I followed the wonderful installation guide/video provided by shillywagon and had the screen replaced in under 10 minutes. Thumbs up for the excellent video.
I also encountered the same "burn-in" issue others have experienced, but it went away after 20-30 minutes. I have to admit during this phase I wondered if I got a lemon, but everything's OK now.
Initial impressions are great. The viewing angle is a massive improvement over the stock screen. With default color settings the colors look good and not blue-shifted like the stock screen. Blacks seem black and whites seem white. Texts are sharp and images look beautiful. I'm very happy with the results.
Tilted forward. Notice how much more I'm tilting forward now than before yet I still don't have any color shifting.

Has anyone bought or have looked a the AUO B156HAN01.1 from ebay seller lcdtech889? My y50 will be here tuesday so im already grabbing the screen and ssd.
-
So has anyone tried replacing the panel on the Y50 Touch? I'm wondering if its reasonably doable to remove the digitizer, swap the screen, put the digitizer back on, and not break anything in the process. Even if it could be done, would the digitizer stick in place over the bezel like it currently does or would it lose that tightness?

Just ordered LP156WF4(SP)(C1) glossy from laptopscreen.com. I got it shipped home and I'll update with pics as soon as I go home after summer term.
-
Can anybody else who has replaced their screen post some general battery usage info with their new screen?
-
A ticket has been opened in connection with your order. Please reply in the ticket as to how you would like to proceed.
We will work on acquiring the Glossy counter-part meanwhile, and I will let you all know when it is available.

For those that have installed a new panel, have you or can you record some usage video, if it's not too much trouble? Just looking at everyday use footage and some gaming footage.
Thanks! -

B156HAN01.2 is IPS (in-plane switching), AHVA (Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle) is AUO's description of the same physical principle in the Liquid Crystal Displays. -

-
Hey guys, I bought two B156HAN01.2 screens to cover my bases in case one wasn't the actual model - turns out both are. So I have an extra one that I can sell to anyone interested or I'll try to return it or put it on ebay.
-
EDIT: It looks like 2 versions were changed to "Out of stock" with the original prices, but now 2 new rows with the same panels in Glossy and Matte are at the top with 10+ available but the Matte costs $10 more. -
Like I said earlier, I have an extra B156HAN01.2 if you're interested. -

Been following this thread for a while now and I've seen a few people ask this question but I haven't found an answer. Will there be a noticeable lag in gaming by using an IPS vs TN panel? Those that are now using an IPS panel, do you notice any lag? Viewing angles aren't really a priority for me so are there any compatible TN panels? I really just want things to stand out when it comes to dark games like the new Arkham Knight will probably be.
-
There are plenty of compatible TN panels too. -
I recently replaced my screen. For those that are on the fence, it was really really easy, no harder then swapping ram or hd.
To the point that i think that it is sort of silly that people are returning/refusing to consider this laptop(standard FHD model) if the sole reason is because of the screen (unless of course you don't want to plunk down additional money in the first place...) It is almost like saying your returning your laptop because it only has X gb of ram or cause you want a SSD. When in reality most people simply just replace those, cost of screens are around the same price if not cheaper then those upgrades anyway. I paid 85USD for my b156han01.2(sorry ebay seller only had one on the listing for those that want to know...)
I guess the only caveat is that screens are bit harder to find a takes a bit more research since they aren't typically sold directly to consumers. And for those worried about the warranty... save the old screen and swap if you have to send the laptop back. If the mobo fries, I highly highly doubt the will pull your screen off and specifically look for your finger prints on the clear sticker where the port connects... Base your decision to buy on fixed hardware, throw the panel into the "can be replaced like ram/hd" category. My 2 cents.
Even after the screen replacement, the price is still competitive to other laptops of similar specs. Also remember just because that other laptop has an IPS doesn't mean it is of good quality. By replacing your own you have better control over that. For example according to this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/724954-p50-review-5.html
"I replaced the LG LP156WF4-SPB1 panel I had received previously, because it seemed to have some orange tones when displaying reds, although it was better after calibration. According to the Spyder4Pro colorimeter, I get 96% of sRGB on the AUO B156HAN01.2 panel, versus 78% of sRGB on the LP156WF4-SPB1 panel."axelfoley123 likes this. -
I'm not familiar with the technical stuff, but it looks like the B156HAN01.2 is slightly superior in terms of viewing angle and color gamut, but it's not in production anymore and is hard to find. The LP156WF4(SP)(D1) has higher brightness and is still in production so it's easier to get a hold of (a few of us got it through laptopscreen.com). Both seem to be some variation of IPS. Also included in the comparison is the LTN156HT01-101 TN? screen (which I think someone mention in this thread to be a sister model to the panel used by MSI GS60).axelfoley123 likes this. -
