That's my assumption too. I'm guessing it is [too good to be true] as well. Its a non-touch model that has this supposed IPS display. If its true, "hell yeah" is what I'd be saying, but I'm keeping my hopes in check because I'm feeling a bit skeptical.

Apparently the thing is an IPS display... I just finished a live chat with a representative from TigerDirect. The guy also claimed that it came with an Intel 7260ac.

Of course, by now I think everyone takes what these people say with a grain of salt. :p

I bet the rep just read the description and spec sheet listed on the website similar to what Lenovo reps did for me. I need some proof I guess. Like I said I ordered my Best Buy one yesterday it should be here tomorrow. I hope it also has an IPS display if not well then I'll make a decision on returning and spending a $100 more for non touch and supposed IPS

No info, I'm just assuming that if the older listed tiger direct has an IPS then the newer listed BB model has one too. I'm just guessing that if there was a refresh on the older listed Tiger Direct then a newly stocked Best Buy model will be also refreshed.

When searching the model numbers of both tiger direct and best buy. They state that the displays are already reviewed and haven't changed. So unless Lenovo just added them without any change to their model numbers I suspect they're not IPS.

If the N550jk has the same screen as the Q550lf like users claim, it has 98% sRGB and 70% aRGB. I just did a recal last week and got those numbers. I'll have the actual cal numbers for the y50 youch tomorrow.

It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for Lenovo to have different screen models out there. It's as if they have bins of spare parts laying around and some dude is just putting random machines together. I had a fiasco with them when I bought the Y500. I originally got the 650M SLI model and 1 week later the 750M(non-SLI) model came out. So I returned it and bought that and the Ultrabay adapter which they claimed was a 750M but was actually a 650M. Returned both of those and got the 750M SLI model which appeared another week later. Then the y510p comes out 2-3 weeks later. Some had matte screens, some had glossy. Some had 755M. It was incredibly random and the reps were no help whatsoever. Long story short, after I found out the msata turned into a M.2 slot I gave up and bought a different brand.

A new configuration is available from Lenovo.com, 4K non-touch Display, i7-4710HQ, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, NVIDIA 860M 2GB, Intel 3160 Wireless for $1330. Really great prices for a 4K laptop with that specs.

I hope the 4K touch models are not that far behind.

It's a shame the vram is 2GB on that model. The vram is the one thing you can't upgrade yourself...

Regardless of the amount of VRAM, I doubt an 860M would be really that suitable for 4K gaming.

the possibility of that is literally 0. if you look in the hardware maintenance manual where they show you all the displays used for FHD, they are AUO, chimei and BOE and we all know there are no IPS panels from them. unless lenovo suddenly changes its display supplier, which I heavily doubt, you won't see any IPS for FHD

At this time we don't plan to - we see the greatest demand for the 4K being the 512GB version versus the lesser version, and we don't foresee many people wanting 4K without the upgraded graphics card.

Your Lenovo representative has any estimation of when the 4K Touch models will be available?

Also I see some people thinking or hoping to do gaming in 4K resolutions. This is not happening, first of you can count in one hand the games that natively support 4K resolutions and secondly (and most importantly) the current mainstream hardware can barely support it. Y50 may be titled as a gaming laptop but its 4K resolution will be best for the non-gaming activities. Photo/Video editing, Design, multi-Window support etc.

Here is a fresh and very good article on this subject:

Weird. My laptop of the same model shipped today, a day earlier than the 06/19/14 date they estimated. After I ordered on 05/26/14 they delayed it to July, but last week moved it back up to the original 06/19/14 ship date.

    Expected receive date is 06/25/14.

For those wondering, the 59421835 is the Touch model with 1 TB hybrid drive, i7-4710HQ, 16 GB RAM and 4 GB Nvidia card. It was priced at $1,399 around Memorial Day on Lenovo's website. Lenovo Y50 Touch Laptop | 15.6" High-Performance Gaming Notebook PC | Lenovo (US)

This might be a stupid question, but I'm guessing that the Y50 uses Nvidia Optimus to switch between the GTX and the Haswell GPU? Just looking into what I will need to screw with once I install linux. It looks like Bumblebee ( Bumblebee - NVIDIA Optimus support for Linux!) is stable and included in Ubuntu repositories.

Would I lose touch functionality by upgrading to this? Or is that based in the glass or something? Because CPR (Cell Phone Repair store) will replace laptop screens for only $85. I bought the highest touch model; I would LOVE to upgrade if I don't lose touch...

the digitizer is separate, hence the edge to edge glass the non touch models lack. They might use adhesive to stick it to the LCD though. Only way to know is to take it apart. where in the link does it say IPS and if it's compatible though? Would like to see a 4k panel replacement too. Edit: better yet, a QHD panel would be nice. I don't understand why laptop displays skipped that step...

Did they physically open the box and analyze the screen? I highly doubt it. They read off a spec sheet. You can hold them accountable if they are wrong though and get a free return. Speaking of Tigerdirect. Both of their models are the same specs but different prices. Am I missing something?

Lenovo reps swore that the optical drive was internal before too  The most reliable source of information is probably the hardware manuel, which lists 3 different panels for the FHD version. All 3 of these are TN.

The y50 at tiger direct is a ips screen. Screen production problems are over for 15 inch. It's one of the reasons why asus discontinued n550 and delaying the new 550 models. But its over now and everyone should have a nice supply by beginning of July. I know this because I work in the trade industry and I worked with several companies the pass month with the same issues.

What exactly are you basing this on? Do you have inside knowledge that Tiger Direct is receiving the only IPS Y50 non-4K's, or are you just making an assumption because you work in the industry? You are stating it as fact, so just curious why you are confident that no one else has Y50 IPS, but Tiger Direct is going to have IPS?

If this were true, I wonder if Lenovo would consider actually replacing customer's screens if they have the older version ... That would be a massive expense, I can't imagine that they would do that .. but to up and switch to an IPS, with they have 3 current screen TN SKU's, would also seem a long shot .. Time will tell with the TD - I imagine the person that ordered would have theirs by early next week at the latest?
