I am new to this software, quick question just to confirm --- the control I need to modify for a -70 value is the 'Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset' correct?
-
When undervolting it's a good idea to step it down slowly. Maybe by 10 at a time. Every time you reduce it, stress test your cpu for about an hour (?) and make sure it doesn't crash or hang. Once you reach the value that makes your CPU unstable, back off and increase it by about 20 to ensure stability. (By increase I mean in the literal sense. If it becomes unstable at -80, increase it to -60)
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I actually haven't undervolted a CPU in a while but it should essentially be the same process as overclocking.alaskajoel likes this. -
Ok will give it a try. Thanks again
-
This is great advice.
I've essentially done the same, but run prime95 out of habit for an hour at least to confirm compatibility at a given undervolt and once it starts getting unstable, back it off by 10mv or so. Every chip is slightly different, but I've found most are stable down to -50 or -60mv. I would recommend starting at -40 and going down by 10 each time until you start crashing. -
My Y50 from tigerdirect should be here tomorrow. I can tell the difference from IPS and TN just from looking at its viewing angles and the colors are obvious.. but I can do a more official test if you guys have one.
Also I cancelled my order from lenovo yesterday because it had a ship date of July 7th then I get an email this morning saying it was shipped.. so now I also have to deal with returning that.. it does have the 4710HQ but I'm more interested in the IPS screen in the tigerdirect order.KlickOnline, Xentar712, vahdyx and 1 other person like this. -

Had a lot of inquiries on this so just wanted to give a little update .. We'll be receiving the higher end Y50 Touch 59421835 on 6/30 (16GB / 4GB Gfx / 1TB HDD) .. As usual we have special pre-order pricing (contact info below). Also on that date we are getting restocked with the 59416739 (non-touch 512GB SSD model). Still no ETA on the 4K model, but we weren't expecting those until 1st/2nd week of July anyway (we are now hearing most likely 2nd week) - but being that many of you have pre-ordered that model, just wanted to put that out there as well.
-
If you would do this and tell us exactly which monitor you have, that would be great! Much thanks!
Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Displays -> Generic pnp monitor properties
Details Tab, and hardware ID...
For example, Mine reads: Monitor\CMN15C4
(Which is a lower quality Chi Mei N156HGE Monitor) -
Thanks for the update on the 4K. FYI I'm the one who preordered with an @inventati.org email.
-
It's easiest if you just refuse the shipment. Then it goes straight back to them and they refund you. No CSR needed.
Off topic: Not to crush and hopes and dreams but if color space is important to you, don't get the false impression the 4k panels will be any better just because it's supposedly IPS. This review of the GS60 3K panel reports some mediocre results. MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K Edition (2PEWi716SR21) Notebook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
"The display only covers 79% of the sRGB and 59% of the AdobeRGB color space."
The non-3K version of that laptop had better color space(99% coverage of sRGB, 72% of NTSC and 77% of AdobeRGB). At least the viewing angles are good. For most, this shouldn't be an issue but if you use the screen for professional reasons it could be a dealbreaker. In short, IPS will not automatically mean better colors. Possibly better viewing angles but the Razer Blade 2014 has poor viewing angles as well so... -
Well that might be because the non 3k ghost pro already used a very good display. At 57% sRGB and 43% aRGB (supposedly) for the FHD model of the y50, I can't see the different 4k panel not being better than that to some level, but I guess we will see.
-
I still have trouble believing those numbers from that review. I'll know for sure later today though.

Go look up Y50 screen (or maybe Y50 color, I forget; I'm on a crappy phone) on YouTube and you'll find a video with the T50 powered on next to another laptop an a desktop monitor, all showing the same color test pic. Y50 clearly looks dimmer, duller, and less accurate compared to the two other screens. HOWEVER, it is not calibrate in that video; I've yet to see or hear the results of a good calibration...

Please forgive the possible naivete of my laptop questions.
Outstanding Questions &/or Awaiting Confirmation (please make any recommendations you are comfortable sharing). I'd rather not browse 500+ pages:
1) I've always been a CD/DVD gamer (and on the PC versus laptop), since I'll apparently be either playing via loading games to HD or via "Steam" how much does the disk space matter (generally, I know it's different for everyone). For example, is the recommendation for 1TB + 8 SSD, and later purchase 500GB SSD (or larger in a year), or some other approach? Also, I guess an external DVD player is an option, but is installing an internal optical drive a definite non-option?
2a) Is there an IPS screen on latest purchases of the 4k (and possibly regular screen?) ( apparently we'll know tomorrow)
2b) Quality of IPS screen (% sRGB, % AdobeRGB) if applicable ( ditto, tomorrow)
2c) what is the "optimal" screen settings for the screen types (IPS, TN, 4k)
3) Please confirm that software run on the 4k screen will or will not run with a border. I've heard people mention the 4x1 ratio, etc, but can I get a definitive response on this one?
4) What can or can't you upgrade on the Y50?
------ for example, RAM (yes to max 16GB)
5) WiFi card upgrade recommendation (in light of the apparent negative reviews)
6) What is the BEST approach to remove (all) bloatware, this is a gaming machine, after all... -
I don't know what's used for the 3k panel but for the normal GS60 it's just a samsung PLS -
1) 1TB is space for PLENTY of games. What I'm doing is buying a 512GB SSD to put inside the laptop, then I'm taking the 1TB one out and putting that in a USB 3.0 enclosure. I intend on putting games/music/movies on that external drive.
2a) We don't know
2b) We don't know
2c) This is what we have so far. For the 1080p TN panel, this works well. We won't know about what really works best until we get someone with a colorimeter to test each kind of screen.
3) It depends on the software and video settings you choose.
4) You can definitely replace RAM and hard drive. We don't yet know about the wireless card (I think, feel free to correct me)
5) Intel 7260
6) Completely re-install Windows 8.1. There's no better way. If you can't do that or don't want to take the time to get the tools ready (if you don't already have them), get PC Decrapifier. It'll let you check off which things you don't want and then when you press the start button (whatever it's called), it'll automatically start removing them with you just going through the prompts. When one is done uninstalling, the program will start the uninstallation program of the next. -
Games on steam are relative small
Varies from AAA games to non triple AAA. Things like BF4 or Titanfall are 20-30GB while indie games and most free games are around 2GB. Either way you end up with more than enough space if youre just storing games. I've got about 90 games installed on my 1tb desktop HDD but I also have a 3tb and an ssd for everything else.
To remove bloatware, use "decrapifier" then to install your programs in a bundle use ninite. -
Will this laptop run at full power under battery mode? And also, will 135 watt power adaptor sufficient for this laptop? have anyone tested this thing yet? i think in my assumption, it will very close to the limit of the adapter, and the battery wont support it either. Different opinion guys? although, it have been confirmed that the 4gb vram has maxwell architecture, and buying the one with ssd will also reduce power consumption, but i kinda want to add mouse and cooling pad, or maybe just to be safe, i ll use an additional adaptor. is it me or this was kinda me talking to my self..
-
Well, I believe it now that I see it... This screen is terrible. 62% sRGB, 44% NTSC, 47% AdobeRGB were my readings. Viewing angles are terrible. About as bad as the Razer Blade 2013 screen. The y510p and y500 screens were much better than this so I don't get it...
This is the BestBuy version so it does have Intel 7260 Wifi, 2GB vRam and is a touchscreen. It also came with an external DVD player. I won't have this in my hand past the end of the day, so if you have any questions, please ask.Oranjoose, LanceAvion, rupeshwar and 1 other person like this. -
can this run NBA 2k14 in 4k high or ultra?
-
so now, the only chance we get a decent screen is the 4k model(s).
i think if the 4k model still has a terrible screen, i'm just gonna wait for the G551.XxxKing YBxxX and Banender like this. -
no i dont think so, the 4k will use ips man(amazon.de have the detail specs) and that is a good sign, i dont know about the screen delay, but as far as i know ips is a little bit laggier than tn panel
-
the 4k model uses ips panel, here are some prove from amazon.de:
amazon is the seller so this info can be trusted
Lenovo Y50-70 39,6 cm Notebook schwarz: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
this one is the pdf brochure from lenovo;

Welp, well now its all down to the 4k screen. On the off chance the tigerdirect model is indeed IPS, any chance you could test the sRGB and AdobeRGB coverage on the tiger direct model once you get it AltCtrl?

seriously, no one concern about the battery? not about the battery life but about power to supply at full power
-
I would've gone with the Gigabyte with the 84wh battery for that reason, along with the extra slots for storage, but decided against it because of the price. I can spend money on getting this laptop along with an external drive and an external battery and STILL pay less than I would've for the Gigabyte.
-
Has anyone done any battery stressing tests yet?
I'm looking for how long this thing would last with just onenote open and typing out notes from lecture. -
are you referring to aorus x7? that laptop have serious power adaptor issue man, in the test by notebookcheck the power adaptor couldnt supply the sli function which resulting in overheating, i would go for asus g750jm for power issue.
so, according to my research at notebookcheck about gtx860, the power consumption would be 60watt, instead lenovo only offers 54watt hour. me right? i tried to convert it to just watt and see a the formula in google, but i dont if its right or wrong. -
It will be a great day tomorrow then! we are all anxious to know your review!

GIGABYTE - Notebook & Netbook - Notebook & Netbook - P series - P35G v2
That one has a 75Wh battery. -
and a kepler 860m which drains more battery
-
yep, good point, the aesthetic looks cheap also, i hope this laptop is not a disappointment, i ve spend to much time waiting for this laptop
-
well that's kinda arguable. I like the simpleness of its design but the plastic does look cheap along with the keyboard
-
oh sorry, I confused Xentar712's Y50 as from TigerDirect instead of best buy.
what are we speculating about Best buy's model again? i am blown by too many speculations. been reading the thread since page 1 and still can't pull the trigger because of the screen.
hope tigerdirect's model is indeed IPS and if ever it is, i hope klickonline could also offer us that same IPS + 7260ac. -
Were you referring to the Lenovo or the Gigabyte?

Unfortunately we won't - we only sell what is on the Lenovo site itself. The models that certain retailers get, are specific to them and generally no one else sells that model as they have purchased the rights to it and, of course, a tremendous quantity. That's why it *is* possible that TD has an IPS model, as they could have commissioned Lenovo to build them one ... I still have my doubts, but nevertheless it is possible. We aren't in the same arena as them (purchase quantities of 1,000+ units or more). -
IPS doesn't automatically = good anyway lol. If it still has crap sRGB and AdobeRGB coverage it really don't matter tbh

Here's another variant of the 4k model I found.
http://www.excaliberpc.com/632096/lenovo-ideapad-y50-4k-edition.html#TabSpecification
It still seems like a worse deal than klick though as this model only has 256gb ssd, 2gb vram and 4700hq, but is only $100 cheaper

FYI, Lenovo is now taking orders for the Y50 with UHD display on it's website:
Lenovo Y50 Laptop | 15.6" High-Performance Gaming Notebook PC | Lenovo (US)
Shipping time is listed as 3 weeks.
Amazon US site has a listing too. But they do not mention if the display is IPS. -
I just realized, the Y50 doesn't have a VGA port. Does the HDMI port on the Y50 have pins or a mode to passively support VGA output using an adapter (kind of like how most DVI ports also output analog signals on certain pins for DVI to VGA adapters)?
Or are we just stuck using active adapters like this one - Amazon.com: Cable Matters Gold-Plated Active HDMI to VGA Adapter (Male to Female) with 3 Ft Micro USB Cable - Black: Computers & Accessories -
Amazon listing spotted, it's a different model number, but the evidence for IPS 4K grows:
http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-15-6-I...e=UTF8&qid=1403219477&sr=8-4&keywords=y50+uhd
15.6-Inch UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS Display -
someone wanted confirmation of the WiFi model on the best buy model. I was also confirming the crappy color space specs claimed in the i5 review a while back.

Nice find - at this point I think the 4K is definitely IPS - Amazon gets their info directly from Lenovo, my Lenovo rep said manufacturing confirmed it, and all evidence points that way. Interesting that the Amazon model is a 4700 - thought Lenovo had used up those processors on the initial Y50's - thought for sure all 4K's would have the 4710's. Also note this model on Amazon more than likely has the 2GB graphics. -
That amazon model looks like the exact same as the Excaliburpc model I posted so yeah probably 2gb vram
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
Wait, so did manufacturing confirm that the amazon model is IPS or all recent stocked 4K models?
-
KlickOnline Company Representative
Rep said all 4K's are IPS ... Again, it is possible they could be wrong - they have received wrong info before. But he said he also verified it against the 4K parts list as well and in both cases, parts list and manufacturing response, were IPS. -
256GB SSD, cool. Not a bad price too.
-
Maybe I'll just keep waiting for the 4k model... Dammit I hate choices sometimes. I can return my 1080p version now. But I'm happy with it lol.

8 million glorious pixels man... You can say what you want ("it's too small I can't read it!!!") but the software support is getting better with every iteration.
-
I am having difficulty getting this to work properly. I would have just messaged you instead of bumping this post but I can't seem to find somewhere to message you.
I'm not sure where I'm going to wrong but I get the same error after I restart and run the set up.
