I've remember reading wayy back somewhere in this thread someone else mentioning it was an evo.
-
-
you mean me
yes the serial number reads off as MZ7TE512HMHP-000L2 which is an OEM version of evoPALin00 likes this. -
wooowww!! got so excited about the 4k, i even want to throw up lol, come on come on ship to germany
-
Holy crap that looks 4k screen looks way better than the FHD one and viewing angles seem much better. I think I'm finally set in my laptop now
-
I had the impression that someone here confirmed the 512 SSD was a Sandisk.
Am I mistaken? I hope, I mean they are decent but the Evo is way better. -
Does the 4K UHD comes with touch version? Or will it be launched?
-
yeah me too at lease for like 15 minutes, then on second thought, the screen still use the glossy bezel, which is kinda annoying, IMHO it will be better if it configure like the touch screen one (frameless/bezel-less just like a mbp), why lenovo why? ah come on man, well then nothing is perfect, if you want perfect go buy nothing, lol
-
Thanks for the info guys. Now I got another question, this time about UHD/4K display. 4K IPS is nice indeed, but what about it's refresh rate? Is it at least 60Hz or is it just 30Hz? And if it's just 30Hz, is it very noticable?
-
And if it does, what are the positive/negative "consequences"? For example:
- How much time did it take Lenovo to list the touch model after the initial non-touch launch (not that release time will relate to the 4k line)?
- How much less (anticipated) battery life?
- Will there be slightly less glare (from a few posts up), and if so, will it be negligible?
-
is anyone else having problems with their webcam being extremely pixelated?
-
Chances are it will be the same or more glare. It's not to hard to get around a glossy panel but when you add a glass digitizer on top, the glare is unavoidable. I'm confident the glare between touch models will be the same, 4k or not.
-
Lenovo listed FHD touch and non-touch models at the same time.
-
so you are saying that there could be a 4k touch? I know2, just like all of you guys who dislike fingerprints including me, but I am just asking, and probably will buy it also if it is available lol, you know girls will be like aah omg omg and showing off just joking
-
So I won't be able to get a side by side comparison with the 4k and UHD models because my friend is returning his today. I'll get a video of the screen and try to take the exact same video with the 4k version for comparison. Trouble is, the reason why he is returning confirms what problems others have had reported - missing keystrokes. I was able to take a short video of the problem before it goes back to Best Buy. I couldn't recreate it well enough by typing sentences but I did miss a couple keys. Normally I would chalk this off to me stinking at typing but a good typist such as he was missing lots of keystrokes too. Apparently it all depends on where you hit the keys. It's not all keys either. Q and W had no problems but as you can see in the video, if you tap the upper left corner of other keys, it misses nearly 50% of the time. YMMV. This puts me in a difficult spot because I will almost certainly return mine if it's that bad. I just hope Lenovo offers a hassle free return with no restocking fee, if it is indeed defective. They should... Video is posted here: y50 keystrokes on Vimeo
It would be nice if others could try and replicate this as well, so we can know if it's just some defective keyboards instead of a model-wide defect. -
They should have one eventually. Didn't they have one on display at CES?
-
yea2 i saw the video from ncix with linus there, damn he is awesome, hmm so I must wait longer? what the fudge man, I ll go check with lenovo sales rep.
-
Whether I purchase this laptop or not rests in your hands. I'm trusting your judgement of the quality of the 4K display.
-
Wow, that keyboard really does look pretty bad in that video. I will be massively disappointed if that isn't just a defect of some sort
-
I just tried this on many of the keystrokes on my y50 and there were no issues. I pressed on the q, w and that whole first row and I didn't notice any miss keystrokes and at the most there was only one if I pressed really fast. I ordered mine from Klick with the 16 GB RAM one if that helps.KlickOnline likes this.
-
My keyboard was easily that bad if not a little worse. Really disappointing. If you push hard enough on any key it will work, but how often do you press as hard as you can on the direct center of the key?

Anyone have this strange issue where the discrete graphics (GTX 860M) is completely undetected?
After using it for only an hour, the 860M dissapeared out of Windows. I could not install, or update because NVIDIA detected "incompatible hardware." It is not under DXDIAG nor Device Manager.
I decided to do a clean install of Windows 8.1, but it is the same porblem, the NVIDIA chipset is nowhere to be found and drivers cannot be installed because of it.
The integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics 4600) installs fine, however..
I am worried that I have a defective model, any help or suggestions?
EDIT1: Sorry, stupid mistake, after going to BIOS my graphic setting was not set to "Switchable Graphics". Easy fixChris9446 likes this. -
Did you set that or did it come like that? If it came like that, thats terrible quality control.
-
"After using it for only an hour, the 860M dissapeared"
He used it for an hour and it worked. Then it didn't. I'd say it didn't come like that.
Mine didn't come like that.heibk201 likes this. -
Just wondering what could have caused that..
-
The only logical thing would be that he was messing with the BIOS beforehand. Unless it somehow changed on its own. In which case, I'd return it before it runs into any more strange issues...
By the way, sorry, didn't mean to come across as so mean.

Have some one performed a full load (prime+futuremark) test and check temps? I wrote on one forum that this test kills laptop - temps 100C. Normal gaming as was written temps are about 80C and this is fine. Full load shows quality of laptop and cooling. Such temps under full load
show that is not so good but even is poor.
What do You think about this information ? -
That 4k display makes me want to return my laptop for that version... It looks THAT good.. I didn't really care about that feature at first but for only 1300ish it seems tempting.. Is there anyway I can buy the UHD IPS panel and just replace the stock matte display? I don't mind upgrading multiple parts of the laptop since I'm probably stuck with it.. Overall I still like it, just seem the new hardware released such as the 7260 network card, UHD display along with an SSD(that's going to be easy to upgrade), really makes me want to shop for more..
-
So now that the 4k has been identified as IPS/PLS and really seems decent are there any laptops out or on the horizon that compete with the Y50 spec wise? I consider both the 256g and 512gb version to be around 1400 and 1500 USD respectively which to me makes the y50 look like a substantially better deal than the Ghost GS60 3k or Razer Blade.
I know the Asus was announced for a possible September release but other than that the Y50 seems hands down the winner for those looking the price category I mentioned above. -
the release date is kinda late and i cannot wait any longer mate
-
Hello how do I see the stock KlickOnlne has? Or how do I place an order with him, I guess just send an email? I read a few pages back that he's getting UHD Y50's in stock soon and I'd like to order a 59421859 from him so I don't have to wait another month to get it from Lenovo.
You see, I just bought a Y50 Touch 59421835 from Lenovo (ordered 4 weeks ago) and it arrived yesterday but I'm already returning it. The screen glare is pretty bad. That alone wasn't enough to make this an insta-return, but the terrible viewing angles and poor quality image was. It's a shame because everything else is very good but Lenovo ruined this model by putting such a terrible panel in it.
Also, are all Y50 screens so glossy as the Y50 Touch, or will the UHD Non-Touch be less so? Thanks. -
I ran into the same problem, I think its NVIDIA that hasn't updated their drivers to accommodate the new hardware.. there's a solution at the bottom of this page
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/741832-y50-thread-476.html -
I wonder if this is a similar problem to the one where the nVidia control panel/optimus won't let you assign the dedicated GPU to a program (i.e in the control panel, the option to decide which graphics card each program will use is greyed out, even though the system sees both GPUs).

My shipping date is on July 18 and I ordered on June 18...
Pure BS when they say 3-7 days till shipping on their site. -
KlickOnline Company Representative
You can contact me via below. Yes we are getting those in next week and shipping. -
I also ordered on June 18th. It shipped today, estimated delivery is next Wednesday.
My order page initially said shipping July 17th. On Tuesday they changed it to June 25th.
So 2 weeks from date of order to delivery at my door. Which isn't too bad, considering the laptop gets manufactured when you order it, and it ships from China. -
I wait for this laptop since the announcement on january, god this takes forever, btw I'm in Germany!! Do I have to wait until Christmast? fudge... probably go with ps4 and a cheap mac air or an asus g750jm which cost the same here, most stuffs that are sold in usa are fing cheap man. Hate tax, sometimes idk not really
-
Anybody else ordering the 4k get theirs sent or am I the only one? Mine is delayed till Monday but hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow.
-
I didn't know 4k's were shipping already I thought they would still be in manufacturing. Do consumers have them already? Has there been any feedback to the screen quality compared to the FHD?
-
See beginning page 589 (pics, etc.)
-
Thanks, I read that previously but I was looking for first hand experience. It does look better in terms of colors/viewing angles though. Just sent my payment off to Klick so hopefully I get to find out myself next week!
-
How to I turn DPI scaling to 100%?
-
Based on the only two options for the UHD (4k) models right now and the following two categories below:
- probably best to have now
- easier and cheaper to upgrade at some future time
...which of these two future upgrades do you recommend based on "1." above? What about "2." above?
- upgrade HD from 512GB SSD (in future)
- upgrade Graphics from 2GB AND Memory from 8GB (in future)
- I have tended to play games with optical drives (only recently used Steam), hence my uncertainty with the 512HD.
- Assume most demanding games now.
- I may at times use dual monitors at home, hence my uncertainty with 2GB Monitor,
-
judging the cooling of laptop only by the double stress test doesn't mean anything. double stress mark gives you different temps everytime depending on the room temp and other conditions. you can put alienware 18 in a 30°C room and run double stress mark and get over 100 and that means nothing. you have to look at internal structures
the main problem with y50's cooling is
1. poor cpu placement
2. dual fans shouldn't be connected
3. CPU and GPU hooked up in series via heatpipe
4. the hinge, although evenly spaced, is still blocking some airflow
CPU placement is discussed various times here so I'm not gonna repeat it. the problem with these dual fans is that because they are connected together, it will function more a larger single fan instead. the fan closer to the gpu will get more load than the one further.
it would've been better for the GPU and CPU to be connected to their respective fan instead, with one heatpipe extended to the CPU from the gpu fan. this way the cooling would have less interference with each other and cpu will get enough support when needed, along with shorter heatpipe length.
as of now the gpu has to take heat from cpu because they are hooked in series by one heatpipe, therefore cpu affects the gpu's cooling.
this will cause CPU throttling under double stress mark and turbo boost turns off when CPU is over 65°C
however there are things to be praised for
1. all copper heatsink
2. thick heatpipes and large sized heat sink
compared to ge60 and clevo w230ss, y50 has much larger copper heatsink rather the cheap aluminum ones.
this is a comparison between y50 and alienware m17x r4's heatsink with the top one being y50's
you can y50 has thicker heatpipes and MUCH LARGER COPPER heatsink compared to AW's smaller ALUMINUM heatsink (although AW has multiple heatsinks...)
both machines are made by the same COMPAL electronics
although y50 is indeed lacking in cooling, TEMP wise it does NOT lose to any of its competitors. ge60 has worse throttling issues under double stress mark, gs60 is significantly hotter. gs60 pro 3k is a nuke. the only thing we can maybe look at here is gigabyte.
so far no mainstream thin and light gaming notebooks can handle an i7 without some kind of throttling under double stress markfmmsf, PsylentStorm, fantasticzig and 1 other person like this. -
I don't think you can upgrade vram, although I could be wrong...
-
you can't upgrade vram because it's soldered on board
-
yea his is right man, never heard manual vram upgrade possible, btw just talk to thebsales rep. they said that y50 touch will also be built with 4k screen but it is going to take like 2 or 3 months, I have just tested the lenovo flex 14 and the touch kinda actually feels great and responsive, somewhat smooth you know it when you try it man very nice now i am very intrigue with it
-
Wow seriously 4k touch won't arrive until 2 or 3 months later? Well there is no way im waiting waiting that long...
-
So summing Y50 is not perfectly desing in terms of cooling system and component placement
but cooling system does its job under normal load in gaming
All temps reported by people after over an hour playing time was in my opinion on very satisfactory level. Reported temps shows as well that CPU temps are worse than GPU.
So may I say that in your opinion Y50 is pretty good in cooling in its class of thin, portable gaming laptops?
Sorry for drilling topic but I ordered Y50 because I needed additional machine for my PC when I'm out of home. I assumed that for this job Y50 would b perfect with good cooling management during gaming
I'd like to make a right choice and be happpy in terms of gaming without paying too much money
-
So, you mean the y50 touch with UHD model is confirmed?
-
I've been following the thread for months, but other than that am new to 4K and don't particularly need it for anything yet (other than possibly the screen if the others prove to be that bad). My question is, are there any drawbacks to ordering the 4K Y50? (Other than the fact that I'd prefer matte and would have to accept glossy from what I can tell.) Compatibility issues, display issues, anything at all? Thanks!
