Thought I would chime in that I bought the (currently) highest-end touch model. They list it at $1700 but a phone call will nab you a student discount that brings down to $1440 (I also haggled a bit, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it).

<$1500 for those specs seems to be a killer deal to me.

I'm still bummed about the battery (wish it was at least a 6-cell, weight be damned), the AC-3160 (wish it was the 7260, which seems standard EVERYWHERE ELSE), and the hybrid (don't want to spend extra to replace it, and I desperately wanted an ssd; if an ssd version comes out within my 30 days, I'll switch). I also wish there was one more USB port.

Sort of surprised at myself, honestly. I thought I was headed in Asus' direction. But the nice lady on the phone sold me at the <$1500 price.

So I decided to not purchase one yet due to the SLI rumour lol, is there really a good chance we will get a SLI very soon? Man this is too confusing, I can't even decide on which model to get from the current selection.

It is a heck of a deal. Don't forget two things though: 1) XPS 15 has better build quality, better screen, looks more premium and, most importantly, is only 4.4lbs. 2) You can get it through dell outlet which is essentialy the same thing - Dell will still repair it if something breaks. I got mine for $1620 before tax. Top of the line model.

Well, this has become more or less a rumour thread. The media is so off on their information, we will all get our Y50's before any major site posts anything about them. Just watch this forum for another week and you will get your reviews.

what else do you want when no one has the actual notebook? at least lenovo isn't pulling a razer, but they are pretty close to it.

One question about sli. Will we able to add a second GPU on our own as we did with y510p before?

No. The y50 uses any entirely different chassis than the y500/510p. None of the ultrabay accessories will be compatible with it.

Captain popeye is busy planning his wedding so no more time for idle chit-chat and speculation on forums. :D

However... after fast skimming through the last couple of hundreds of posts here's some nuggets for you(disclaimer- this is just personal opinions):

-that blu-ray drive....if it's the same chasis as the rest of the y50's then it's definetly external...

-The SLI version ..it's either complete bs or a refresh of the y510p with 860m
(Note that this would be keeping the ultrabay design so that would mean possibility of switching with dvd/blu-ray)

There is no room in that body for a SLI or a blu-ray drive... SLI would take up about the same amount of space as a dvd because of the extra cooling fan needed(remember that the ultrabay gpu on the y510p had a dedicated fan)

Finally 4k... i'm still banking on PLS/IPS....they wouldn't show an IPS display at CES just to dissapoint later on. It's just bad marketing...though from lenovo that's semi-possible :))

And yes lenovo did break my heart with no msaat/m2.ngff slot so waiting for 20nm maxwell ddr4 and broadwell next year.

I ordered it on the 16th, this is my first time ordering online with Lenovo so I'm kind of skeptical on when it'll get here. Looks like we'll just have to wait and see.

    popeye!!!!!! :p

    gratz on wedding

waiting for ram and processor how important are those for gaming anyway...? Never considered RAM and CPU as THAT important... and sure the 20 nm maxwell might be the only thing worth waiting if you got a semi decent laptop right now

but hell, 860m maxwell is also not a bad time to invest... considering high resell-values you could sell the y50 in a year and buy yourself a 2015 laptop and you lose maybe a few bucks in the process might also be worth considering as an option

The lack of an mSATA expansion slot is definitely the low point of the Y50.

I love how when a rumor appears people start to make serious question about how that rumoured thing will works and how the laptop itself performs (when we dont have any final product review) xD

Like: How good the Blu-Ray drive is? how much the battery last under "x" circunstances? how many FPS on the Y50 with 860M 4GB while playing Watchdogs (unreleased Laptop/GPU and unreleased game), etc :D

For those waiting for 20nm maxwell, do you have any idea how much that will cost? I'm under the impression that the first maxwell chips released will be the 870m/880m/880mx. These are top top tier GPUs. Right now the cheapest 870m (portable) laptops are 1800ish and I can only expect that to go up with 20nm versions. So yes, new tech will arrive, but at what cost?

The maxwell versions of the upper tier cards will be the: 970m 980m and the 980mx respectively. Whether or not they will use the 20nm remains a mystery.

hey, guys. Good news for those who placed order, I placed an order 2 days ago and the estimate date is June 13, but I just noticed my order was released to manufacturing already, based on my previous experience, it will be ready in a week or so after releasing to manufacturing, which means I will get mine two weeks earlier than estimate date, that's pretty nice.

on the US site, if you go into the y-series main page, you'll see a seperate "Y50 Touch" line of notebooks beside the Y50

on the Canadian site, there is only one touch model mixed in with the rest of the Y50s

Been following this thread for a while and thought I'd post. I ordered the base model on 12 May and just received an email saying it has shipped (or more specifically, a UPS label has been created). My original ship date was the 25th, and it changed twice. Supposed to be here by 2 Jun according to Lenovo, but UPS hasn't processed it, so no tracking as of yet. Pretty excited since I've never had a gaming laptop before, and this one checked all the boxes except dual storage options. Cheers.

"1-3 business days" is estimated ship day, which means you have to wait 5-7 more business days to get your laptop hands on after that estimated ship day.
And for those who waiting for your estimated ship day, the lenovo staff says it may take up to 48 hours to figure out your estimated ship day, so I think you will know your estimated ship day by tomorrow if you ordered yesterday.

Hey guys, I just called Lenovo and figured out what's going on. Basically, the manufacturers in Canada are waiting for some parts and the parts are only due to arrive in 16 days. Only after that can Lenovo build it and give it to UPS to ship. So expect the laptop in 2-3 weeks if you ordered it yesterday or today. Probably the i7-4710 is the bottleneck, as it caused increased shipping times in the US and all Canadian models have it. In the end, both countries will likely get it at the same time.

I'd be upset if I hadn't already been expecting delays, lol. 1-3 days was way too good to be true in the first place, and 3 weeks isn't THAT long of a wait. It's not October, like some people's estimates said, lol. Anyways, I think I'll probably still be one of the first people to get one.

That should depend on when you order it. Since I ordered within a couple of hours of it becoming available, I'm hoping I can get mine in 3 weeks. If not I'll start getting a bit annoyed. Anyways, hopefully the tracking website updates tomorrow and we all get our Estimated Shipping Dates. I know those shift around as well, but they should still help give initial estimates.

Man I have been down that road before lol, I have ordered 3 different laptops from lenovo, all have taken over a month with shipping and estimated dates all over the place, you can keep calling these guys and they always make a note of it but don't do anything. It almost always takes at least a month, you are very lucky if you do get it earlier (sometimes it happens), I just wouldn't count on it to save yourself some frustration. FYI all my estimated dates were also 1-3 days and I even got very early shipping notifications for 2 of them, but they still took a long time.

So far I'm really unimpressed with the unreliable reps and the even more unreliable website...I heard Lenovo has amazing customer service but promising 1-3 day shipping when they knew it would take over 2 weeks to even get the parts is pretty despicable, lol. They could get a few random posters on this thread to do a much better job than the current reps, who seem completely oblivious to basic issues like matte vs glossy and graphics card comparisons. That said, the Y50 should still be awesome when we get it and no other laptop company seems any less criminal than Lenovo. :p
At least Lenovo makes good stuff and has quick response times to emails and calls. And it has the most fair pricing I've ever seen. So I'll let the BS slide...IF I get my laptop within 3 weeks. ;)

For those who are condisering the gtx 850m to be inferior than the 750m , here i quote Wikipedia: "Nvidia increased the amount of L2 cache on GM107 to 2 MB, up from 256 KB on GK107, reducing the memory bandwidth needed. Accordingly, Nvidia cut the memory bus to 128 bit on GM107 from 192 bit on GK106, further saving power." IMO , that basically means that the 850m will outperform the gddr5 755m despite being ddr3. correct me if i'm wrong . These 2 maxwell chips are too amazing !

And,will the y50's base model's price be cut down to like 1050 levels ? it's already down to 1099 on amazon from 1149 on the lenovo website(as the kind sir above my post suggests). If yes , then around july or august perhaps ?
