It's not the GPU that's thinner. It looks like they are using the haswell 4702 which is a 37W part (4700 is 47W) and if the 860M is 60W instead of 75W, it should be easier to cool the both of them. I so hope the cooling system is quiet.

Lenovo seems to have abandoned Msata on all their models, Thinkpads and Ideapads. If the Y50 would contain a SSD, it would be using M.2 (NGFF).

Some editions of the Y510p include the 4702, also i've modded my 4700 to work as a 4702, the temperature difference between both CPU's using the same cooling system is about 10°C. This, along with the fact that the Y50 will have dual fans, possible one for the CPU and one for the GPU, might make this possible, but you can almost guarantee that the Y50 will use a larger 170W power brick.

Oh, what I meant by is that in their checkout process it says that applicable taxes and fees are applied at checkout... so once you enter in your billing / shipping info if you are in an area that charges taxes (usually locations that Lenovo has physical operations/address) it will then add tax. It's like in Texas, if you buy HP or Dell, you'll have to pay taxes because they have offices in Texas. So if Lenovo operates out of California, then most likely, yes, you'll be taxed.

Yes you do pay taxes shipping to Cali, and depending on which city you live in it could be quite hefty. Broke state government FTW.

Since this doesn't have display port, it wouldn't be possible to output 4k, correct? I thought the hdmi taps out after 1080p?

HDMI 1.4 can deliver 4K, albeit at 24/30 Hz only. For anything other than movie watching, this is useless. If you'd want 4K on an external monitor for productivity, you would have to get a USB graphics cards that supports it. As for gaming, don't even bother.

Sorry guys, I tried looking for it, but it wasn't in the system at all. At least, not the inventory system. I'll ask around and see if there's another system I could search through, but I doubt we're receiving it anytime soon. But, this does not mean it will not be released soon, as Best Buy stopped carrying the Y510p about 3 months ago.

Like I said, I'll search once more, but no guarantees on finding anything.

Do u guys think there will be a huge differnce between the 765m and the 860m? I am currently choosing between the y50 and msi gs 70 stealth, where i like the stealth because it is 17" and is so slim! And i like the y50 for the 4k screen and more powerfull gpu. Also the msi in my country has a rebrand of it and therfor is actually very cheap.

Everything is still rumor and speculation, but looks like, yes, there will be a noticeable difference. You can check out the Maxwell thread that is going on in the Gaming section, Cloudfire has been really on top of everything regarding the new chips and is breaking out all the math to show why it's better, but just to go to a simple comparison.

    765M 3DMark11 Score: ~4000
    860M 3DMark11 Score: Estimated ~5100

Again, rumor and speculation... have to wait until they are in the wild.

I saw that the MSI GE was getting updated with the 860, so it might be possible the GS could get a refresh with the 860 as well if you really want MSI.

I spoke with a Lenovo dealer in Shanghai the other day who said the Y50 would be available late march/early april in China but i don't know how accurate that is. He had the Y50 on a list with dates but no pricing schedules/options. I'm hoping the 4k screen option is not astronomical.

I would imagine we'll see the 860M in many of the 15 and 17 inch thin and light gaming notebooks. I'm speculating we'll see it in the rMBP refresh as well.

Not to mention I'm sad panda that there was no 840M,850M,860M announcement today.

If the rumor that 860m is equal too or a bit more powerfull than 770m, many thin gaming laptops will have very good performance for it thinnes.

Kind of wonder why they decided to go r 275m though...because the 860m tdp is around 40-50 I believe.

given that the r7 270 is a rebrand of the 7870, the r7 270m is probably a rebrand of the 7870m. Its more powerful than the gt 755m.

The y40 at ces was packing a r275m, the same model in the brix pro. If the drivers are good, expect around 760m performance.

They're basically the same. 7870M has a stronger core config but 755M makes up for it by being clocked very highly and also having more memory bandwidth.

Scratch that. Apparently 755M is a little faster in most cases: Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - NotebookCheck.net Tech

Radeon HD 7870M vs GeForce GT 755M

755 is like 10-15% better in benchmarks. And Octiceps ninja'd me. And Kepler OC's really well, though i have no idea how well you can OC a 7870M.

New user here--very interested in the Y50 but I'm still shopping around a bit. What is the new series that MSI announced?

Also, I doubt it's official but I talked with a Lenovo customer service representative and she said the Y50 would be here by the end of the month.

I only asked about the Y50, so I can't speak to the Y40, but I would assume they would be released at the same time. I have read that the Y40 is speculated to have the AMD Radeon™ R9 M270 4GB graphics card.
