GS60 is the comparable MSI model. Is up for preorder in multiple places with an ETA of 3/12.

You would think they hold some form of press conference regarding the release date of the product if it was going to be released in "near" future as in the "end of February" as an agent told me, or the "second week of March". People on the Lenovo forums have also been asking about the release dates and it would be nice if they came out and responded.

This looks like a pretty amazing laptop. The main question now is when is it coming out and how much do these upgrades cost?

I think a lot of us are hoping for an I7 and 860m for under a grand. 1080p is included base, I think.

http://news.lenovo.com/images/20034/Y, Z, C-Series and LBG Monitors Spec Sheets.pdf Well, according to this, 4K, backlit keyboard, SSD/Hybrid and touchscreen are all optional. 1080p is standard. The CPU is "up to i7" and "up to 16 GB of RAM." So, none of these will be included in the base price of $999. I'm not sure if people even knew this existed, since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else in this thread. It has actually been here since not long after the new lineup was announced. No pricing on the upgrades was given, but I hope that they don't cost too much. It does say that pricing and specifications are subject to change, but I think that $999 for all or even some of these extras sounds too good to be true.

While it probably will cost 999 base, there is the hope that when the rep ay CES said 699 starting he meant it. That, or the fact that lenovo is in perpetual sale online.

I really do hope that your rep is right or that their never ending year round sales will apply to the brand new Y50, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The aorus x7 is a whole different beast to gs60 or y50. Its 17" SLI monster. These are tamed laptops.

I disagree, I don't think two 765ms would be too far ahead of 860m laptops. There's of course the obvious issues with SLI and many will prefer a single strong card over two weaker ones.

    The 860m is not much better than a 765m. 2 765ms will destroy a 860m. Wait till aorus x7 refresh with 2x 860m.

860M sli would be very expensive, you could just buy a 780m or a 880m.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the difference in raw power between a 770m and 765m is over 20%. Now consider the fact that the 860m is topping the 770m in most benchmarks. If this is not a big gap between 1 refresh in gpu-land then I don't know what is.

Frankly I'm not fond of sli setups. If the game you are playing does support it at all the yield on the second gpu is almost always disappointing (just my experience). And then there is the extra heat/noise and power usage. All things considered I think the 860m is the better option compared to an 765m sli.
Of course 860m sli would change that, but I doubt that aorus refresh will come anytime soon..

The 860m can be 30-40% more powerful than a 765m and still, My statement remains true. Its like SLI 755m vs gtx 770m. Same thing.

Couldn't agree more, also the micro stutter with SLI laptops are a huge turn off, I'll take a single more powerful GPU anytime over 2 weaker card set up any day .

Do you guys think the Y50 will have good cooling? Right now, i have to choose between the Y50 and the asus G750jx, wich has 3d, 120hz screen and 770m.

They are so different you cant even compare them. the asus is a thick 10 pound gaming laptop with insanely good cooling. The y50 will run way hotter but is much more portable at 5-6 pounds.

I know, but i just wondered if this has good cooling because the asus has, and they both have pros with the screen, one have 4k, and the other has 3d and 120hz, and both has same performance, and i dont care so much about the weight and thickness since it is gonna stand on the desk all the time, but the portability is good to have.

If you don't care about portability, the asus is the way to go. Or heck, even get yourself a proper desktop. The y50 is lesser than 1" thick. There's simply no way for it to even come close to asus's cooling.

If anyone wonder why i dont buy a desktop, it is because i often go to my friend and we play together, i dont have that much space and i ofte go to my cabin.

Sorry for posting this in the Y50 thread, better find the asus g750 thread if there is one :p

Will there be an extra-capacity battery for the Y50 and Y40?

There's a bit of a difference between 4 hours and 6 hours of battery life, especially for a college student.

If you're comparing to Y410p/510p, these never had an ultrabay battery option.

I've been reading this thread for a long time, since it seems to have the most activity for our long awaited Y50. The big concern I have is actually one I havn't seen anyone else specifically talk about. I've confirmed twice with lenovo chat support that the Y50 will be offered just like the Y510p with a selection of available models, the Y50 WILL NOT be customizeable. That being said I want the GPU, the 512GB SSD, the backlit keyboard, and 16GB ram, but I do not want the 4k or touch display. Not only am I worried the Y50 could be approaching $2000 with those options, but simply that It wont be offered in that configuration. Like many others, I would much greater prefer one more powerful GPU than a pair of less powerful GPUs in SLI. Bottom line, I'm waiting as patiently as everyone else with my fingers crossed...

The unit would have to support HDMI 1.4b in order to support HiDPI displays. Most don't.

I got some more info regarding the Lenovo y50.Well it seems that the entry level model of the device will sport the Intel HD chip as it's primary GPU.The machine also appears to be able to house one main storage at a time: a pure HDD, a hybrid HDD, or a SSD; so, I am inferring that they may very well skip on offering Msata or a NGFF port this time around, probally for cost saving measures. But more interestingly is the fact that all units will be equip with optical drives, something not shown or talked about at CES.
