Sounds like your hard drive is DOA.

If you can get it to boot, use the system tools to check your C: drive to check for, then repair any errors during the next boot. It should clean up all the bad sectors, unless the total drive has been compromised.

If you can't boot at all, replace the HD, and use your "Factory Recovery CD" (you did create one, when you received your system, didn't you?) to restore the new HD to the factory settings.

Sounds like a hardware problem then, not windows issue.

Recently, I bought a used Lenovo Y500 for a nice price. There was one catch, the LCD cover was scratched heavily, the rest was like new. Because the plastic LCD bezel also was scratched I've decided to change them both. The repair went great and my laptop looks fresh again. However, after cleaning the LCD bezel a few times with a VERY soft micro fibre cloth the bezel is all scratched up again, though it is lightly and only visible when light shines on it.

Anyone have the same experience? Do all Y500s have this?

I've got a y500 sitting next to me and it has the same issue, the only thing you could do is use some automotive grade wax to make the little scratches less visible.

Thanks. Not much I can do to prevent it I guess.

Yep, my Y500's plastic bezel around the screen is covered in microscratches, ironically from polishing with a microfiber cloth LOL. Invisible though unless I shine a light directly on it.

It's the same with my y400. I might just wrap my laptop in a carbon fiber skin so I don't have to look at this glossy bezel any more. Lenovo was going for that look anyways.

I've been looking for the 750M ultrabay for a while now for my Y500... the problem is that every time Lenovo decides to make it available on their site, it goes away just as quickly as it appears. Anyone know what's going on with this, or a third-party place where I can purchase this?

Also, I shouldn't have any problems with it right? Nothing as drastic as what the people with Y510P's have to deal with?

I had to buy mine on ebay, I got a pretty decent deal. I paid $206 for 750m ultrabay, and 170w charger.

It's been two years since I wrote my review for the Y500 on this site and I'm pretty much done with the IdeaPad Y series. The whole laptop is falling apart and has poor build quality, and as said, the whole thing is a dirt magnet. I'm going to buy a ThinkPad W540 Mobile Workstation, similar specs, but much more durable.. With the W540 series you can even customize your machine, from top to bottom. Not the case with the Y series

I have a Y500 with the 2gb 650m. Does anyone know if the 750m can be used to run SLI or do I have to get 650m (the GN36 card)? I am looking at purchasing and can't find the 650m anywhere.

    Nope you can only pair a 650 with a 650 and a 750 with a 750 iir.
