I have contacted them to no avail. Me being in India doesn't help either. LenovoRecovery.com also doesn't ship to India. So, I am at the mercy of someone here. All I need is a file install.wim and I would be happy to send $20 via Paypal if someone helps me.

P.S - If you still have the hidden partitions copied somewhere, I could help you get it working.

I have all the original partitions. They're just different sizes then they were originally so the software can't identify them. Where would the install.wim file be located? I probably have it.

    Its in a hidden partition named "PBR_DRV" - Location is - "PBR_DRV\OKRBackup\Factory\install.wim"

This partition is hidden and can be un-hidden using diskpart.

Weak, only thing that's really holding it back. Oh well, still very happy with the purchase.

BTW- I've overclocked the monitor to 73Hz, has anyone else got higher? Once I select anything 74Hz or above the screen goes white and starts to flicker.

That's ironic. First you call lack of Optimus weak, then you start talking about LCD panel overclocking, which wouldn't be possible in an Optimus setup.

    Hi folks,

I've just recently been fiddling with my GPU settings and read from multiple sources that with GT 650M you shouldn't be able to OC past the 135 MHz limit with the GPU core since this is supposed to be blocked by Nvidia drivers. This is without using a modded BIOS found on TechInferno forums. But then again i'm running 334.67 (i think) and used batch files and nvidia Inspector to set my core to 1100 MHz and memory frequenzy to 2500 MHz and it actually seems to be working. GPU-Z doesn't show the raised clock speeds in the info view but the raised clocks are showing up in the "Sensors"-tab. Info view does show the raised memory clock but not the core clock.

I can provide screenshots and similar things if you're interested. Only one i saved in a hurry last night was the latest 3dmark11 results with 1100 core and 2500 MHz memory, I think the scores shouldn't be so high if the OC wasn't actually working. Please correct if i'm mistaken. :D

Okay boys! I've got a feeling that this is the place where I'll get the help I need.

So i've been building a waterloop for my y500 ( :D ) and it's working almost perfectly now, just needing couple of adjustments and bueno.

The problem I'm having is that my Ultrabay 650m didn't like my works at all and blow a component PL22 from the 650's board. So could some one measure it for me with a multimeter so I can get it fixed?

Another question is that has someone tried unlocked processors with y500 to see if they are OC-able?

    EDIT:

PICS PICS!! Instagram its still in beta phase, will get more flexible tubes etc later on.

Shooting for 1.5 GHz, and beyond!!!

XM processors should be overclockable with the unlocked BIOS.

Be aware of the increased power consumption of XM chips (It's even higher if you overclock) and you might need an appropriately large PSU to compensate.

Yes definitely. However with SLI you might not have enough room, especially if you overclock the GPU's.

Also what you can do, what EmberV suggested, is purchase a 240W Alienware PSU and a pin adapter.

Still, I've got the problem with the second card. Could someone please measure the PL22 component from the ultrabay 650m? That way we could achieve 3DMARK number one spots together! ;)

Using 1290/2600mhz 247 OC now, could still get some mhz's out of it but decided that I want to go with the lower voltages.@ 1.175v atm

Nope, just insert the card into the ultrabay and activate SLI via the Nvidia Control panel (PhysX and SLI Configuration).

Looking at upgrading my Y500 to Windows 8.1, can anybody give me a run down on any incompatibilities? Any driver or general issues before I update?

    Thank you!

    Hello everyone~:hi2:

Would appreciate any help / advice for my problem please  I am trying to reload Windows 8 back onto my laptop to give to a family member.

I bought a y500 back in september 2013 and wiped and formatted it with windows 7. But stupid me never backed up windows 8 / cloned it to save it to go back to Win8.

I tried downloading some Windows 8 Iso's and burned them to DVD / USB's but I get a Orange screen with White vertical lines after loading the boot device.'
Does this mean the ISO is bad?

    1) Does anyone have a legit Windows 8 ISO download? ( I tried using a generic key to download from microsoft itself but it gives the error "can't connect to the internet", (guessing the key is blacklsited by microsoft already)

    2) I tried contacting Lenovo Support for Recovery discs, and they want $65 for it, not sure if it is even worth it.

At this point I am willing to try anything, and if worst comes to worst I guess I will have to buy windows 8

    Thanks for any info!!

Hello guys my name is Phillip and i come from Croatia.
I have a big problem that i created because of lack of knowledge.
    I'm owner of the Lenovo Y500 I7 3630QM 2.4-3.4ghz . 8gb of ram , 1tb hd , 2x GT 650m SLI Win8 x64.
So after 1 year of use i didnt have any bigger problems and 1 day i realise my Windows 8 x64 uses only 4gb ram out of 8gb that is in laptop. So i tried some tweaks with msconfig and increasing the memory. After i typed somewhere that i have 8192 my windows didnt want to boot up , after Lenovo would appear in black screen i would get error called , BAD_SyS_Configuration. And i tried for 5-6hours to boot up the pc , but no luck. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 that my friends owns and he is not using it. And i deleted all of the previous partitions on the HDD. So if any1 would be so kind to help me over the skype : fiilliix . Ty

You are right. So i shouldnt format and change my Win8 with Win7 fresh install. Is there any way i can find legal copy of my OEM windows , but i cant recover key for it from bios or can i?
Or can i install cracked windows 8 and still find my key or will bios automaticly register its key?

The lack of Optimus IS weak and I would easily trade off of not being able to overclock the monitor for it. I never stated I'd require both, not sure where the irony is there?

Hey guys, been having a LOT of issues the past week or so...

I have a y500 with the 750 SLI. I noticed about a week ago that when I plugged in my USB drives, the machine wasn't picking them up at all. I tried to restart, but the computer would freeze up during the power down and give me a blue screen saying something about a driver power issue. It would stay at that screen reading 0% progress until I just turned off the computer myself.

I went through this issue for a couple of days until I gave up. I was able to get my USB drives to recognize if I booted the computer up withy the drive already in. However, even then, computer would only boot to a usable state about 1 in 5 boots. Otherwise, I would try and login, but the machine wouldn't recognize any inputs. Other times, I'd get to my desktop, but the computer would freeze and nothing would work.

Finally, after some luck, I was able to get my files transferred to an external. So I decided to try and do a one-key fresh reinstall. Problem is, when I did that, i couldn't run the Windows Update. It would download and sit on preparing to install for hours. I tried to quit out of Windows Update in the system tools menu, but that still didn't help.

I'm at a loss. I can't seem to get my computer back to a usable state and it's driving me nuts. Even now, I am trying the "Remove everything and reinstall windows" option from the PC settings. But that's been at it for about an hour saying "Preparing" with what I am going to assume no progress.

Anyone have ANY idea what's going on? I've only had it for less than a year. I almost regret getting rid of my desktop after how much of a headache these past days have been...I can't seem to diagnose this thing for my life since all of these issues are dead end problems.

I appreciate any help. I should mention, I will have a VERY hard time running any sort of external software to diagnose specific issues since my laptop is freezing and screwing up so much. Thanks again!
