It also depends on the model, they make as order, from what I heard... If the model is quite popular they may ran out of parts or something. I order the IdeaPad Y580 Laptop - 209945U model. If you order the same model, then my assumption is invalid.

Also I think, not entirely sure, but the one who update the order status page is the sales team of lenovo and they work weekdays only...

Strange that the model I order, maybe I just lucky or something. I know some people whom got their model in a week. I suggest you call the sales team and hopefully you get a good representative to provide information. If you do ask for his name and contact information. I was lucky and got a good representative, that not Indian(I mean no harm by this comment) who answer all my question and told me all the information I know. Well, mind suppose to ship out on Monday, let see if that really is the data or not...

Thanks man. I appreciate it. I ordered the same model with 500gb 7200rpm HD and FHD screen. Seems like the most popular model. So roughly around 3 weeks between order date and estimated delivery. I might get mine around 23rd July by that calculation. This sucks. too much wait.

Want I meant about delivery date is the day when your laptop should arrive at your house(note you have to be there when the UPS come to your house, lenovo required a signature... and it not good to keep a laptop outside in the summer sun all alone)

Anyways if there no delay, it might take about little over two weeks maybe. Once again, I believe the ones that actually update the information on your status page is the sales team in the respective country, not the manufacture. Since I called them and they told me about the delay and the next thing I know was my status page was update within a hour of the call.

Anyways, I would called them about two to three days before the shipping data if the status page does not change from "Released to Manufacturer" to "In Production" (They only work weekdays so if you order status does not change during weekends is because no one there hahaha....)

I share your pain, the waiting is killing me. It seems that that Lenovo make to order and do not have a stock pile of these model, which I believe I have said in a earlier post.

Anyways good luck on your wait and I will keep you update on my order if it delay or on schedule so that you can excepted when you get yours.
I so excited for this laptop since it was on sale and the other laptop that I look at had heat issue(hp) or way expensive(sony, samsung...)

Sorry if the post is too long and I think I know too much about Lenovo services or too little... :)

When Hp dv6t 7000 quad edition initially came out it was on sale for 954$ after 33% off coupon. That model had everything including 1 TB HD with 32gb mSSD cache. I almost bought that model but I backed up because of my bad experience with Hp in the past. My hp laptop used to heat like crazy and it was so loud, you can actually hear the fan noise from another room. I heard good things about lenovo so I decided to give it a shot. Are you planning to add mSSD of 60 or 120 gb later on and install windows on it for the faster boot up ? I might do that or might wait for a good deal on 512 gb SSD.

For those that have the Y580 already, what do you think about the audio quality? I've never heard JBL speakers before and world be interested to know how well they sound.

I have the Z370 with the same speakers as the Y580 and they are above average for laptop speakers, but they lack bass of course.

Yep, I back down for Hp when my friend told me that his Hp keep warm during long winter. Seriously it was hotter than my toshiba laptop with a desktop cpu...

I do not know if I going to add a mSSD, I not too knowledgeable about how to install one so I kind of petrified to do it. I probably be content with the quad core i7 speed and boot up time and it cost a lot right now, already pour $1000 into a laptop make me a poor college student...

Don't wait too long because other deals/laptop will pop up and you might want to wait for that laptop and if you wait too long that whole cycle repeat and repeat and you will wait and wait while you plan to buy a laptop for over a year. That what happen to me :) The fourth of July deal was too good to wait any longer so I ordered it. Hopefully I will be pleased.

Well I already bought one so there is no wait anymore. I might install a 512 gb SSD sooner or later in my Y580. With 500gb 7200rpm hd and i7 quad core processor your laptop is already crazy fast. You don't really need to spend more money on mSSD or SSD. May be after year or so when your hard drive start to show some signs of slow down you can do that. As far as knowledge of installing mSSD goes you can always search for it in youtube and find some useful tips. I am sure you will enjoy the speed of your Y580 as it is without going through any extra expenses.

I have heard good things about Y580's audio quality. Sound is crisp clear and it has dolby surround sound system. I will be able to give you more details about it's audio quality once I will receive it and try it myself.

You need to get screw with 2mm diameter (I'm not sure of this, it could be 1.5mm too) with thread about 2mm long. If you open your Y580 there is a wifi card screwed at the left from hdd with screw you looking for - you can unscrew it to get reference.

Hi guys, just got mine this morning and liking it very much so far (so much better than my old vaio!)

However, the keyboard seems a bit loose at the top left corner and it's causing a pretty annoying rattling sound when pressing keys on the left side of the keyboard.
Has anyone else found this problem with their Y580? Can you recommend an easy fix for it? I'm thinking that I'll have to send it back for replacement but would prefer to avoid it as I'm not keen on waiting that long and it already came all the way from Holland (I'm in the UK).

Also, mine came with a 64GB Samsung SSD, a pleasant surprise as I didn't realise this was the case! I'm very new to SSDs though, this being my first one. How can I tell if Windows is already installed on the SSD? It doesn't show up when I look at the storage options in Computer, it just shows up in Device Manager..

Sorry for the long post and (probably) stupid question!!

This issue with top left corner was rised few times here. I didn't noticed it in my notebook so maybe it's not common.

As for the mSATA SSD, if there's no drive letter in Windows Explorer than it means that Lenovo did Rapid Drive on those models. And if this is the case then there's a 99% chance that Windows is there because Lenovos manual says how to install Windows there.

The keyboard certainly has more flex on the upper left hand side in mine, which is pretty well-established for most if not all the Y580s that are coming out. There is a little bit more of a "hollow" sound when pressing the keys in that area versus the right side but no rattling like yours.

Thanks for clearing that up, I didn't fully understand how RapidDrive worked, but that link was very helpful, cheers.

Ah really? I think hollow is a better word for it really, not rattling as such. I guess if it's a common issue there's not point point getting it replaced then. Where else has this been reported? Because I've followed this thread since the beginning and only seen upper-left-corner-flex mentioned once, so i was a tad panicky!

Exact same problem with my keyboard the top left is loose, so it rattles and makes clicking noises. Mine is getting sent back though for more serious issues. If that keyboard issue happens to every y580 I will be very disappointed!

I think UK models come with 64GB SSD by default.
    Notebook computers - IdeaPad Y580 | Lenovo | (GB)
USA models don't have an option of getting 64GB SSD. I don't know why?

Either that or make sure your finger is dry because any moisture would "catch" on the smooth trackpad.

Thanks for the info. Is the trackpad "plasticky" feeling then? I couldn't tell from Y580 pics and videos what material the unit uses for the trackpad.

On the subject of trackpad, does anyone know the shortcut for a new tab? My old laptop opened a new tab when you pressed both buttons below the trackpad, but they're built in on the Y580 and I can't figure it out..

    EDIT:
Found the solution for anyone who's interested.
Just follow the steps in the video, I didn't bother with the right-click functionality, so to make a two-finger tap open a new tab you change the value to 4 instead of 2. (See video)

Exactly it's "plasticky" feeling. On another note to get a replacement from lenovo is hell I can barely understand the East Indian accent, at first he said the product you request replacement for is not available. I was like , then he said I will check again and then he said it was available? They try to screw you around very disappointing! I will not be ordering directly from lenovo.com ever again what a pain.

Funny thing just happened. I just discovered that there is no optical drive in Computer.
There is optical in..hm...I'm not sure how it is called in English versions of Win...Computer->RMB->Manage->Device manger?
If I put CD into it, nothing happens.
I didn't have time to play with this but if you have some tips then I would be grateful for them. :)

You guys are scaring me. Is the trackpad real turn off ? I don't like smooth trackpad. I prefer little rough texture (Similar to one in MacBook Pro). My fingers tend to get little wet sometime then it doesn't slide nicely on smooth surface.

I might just cancel my order from Lenovo in favor of textured touchpad of Dell Inspiron 15r special edition or even Hp dv6t 7000 quad edition. I hated smooth touchpad of my old laptop. I had to use external mouse all the time with it.

So I recently bought the Y580, and I've been happy with it so far, but I haven't done much gaming. When I have gamed, I've experienced strange lag spikes in which the audio stutters, and the fps lowers considerably for several seconds. This also happens when I'm not gaming, particularly when I'm watching videos, but it happens far more frequently during gaming (several times per minute).

Basically, has anyone experienced lag spikes accompanied by audio stuttering that happen once every couple of minutes and last several seconds? Thanks!

Update your nVidia graphics drivers to the most recent beta version, try automatic update in the nVidia control panel, but make sure that you check "include beta updates" or something like that. Also to make sure the lappy is using the dedicated GPU, you can force the game to run using it by right clicking the program and choosing play with dedicated GPU.

I barely know anything about computers, but right after I posted that I changed the settings for the preferred graphics processor in the nVidia control panel to the nVidia processor rather than auto-select, so hopefully that helps.

Thanks for the tip, I turned on the beta updates, and it's installing the newest beta update right now, hopefully that helps.

Edit: Thanks for the help, I was finally able to play a few games without the problem

Just registered to share that my laptop also shipped out today. I ordered my y580 (FHD and 500 GB 7200 rpm) around 1 am on 7/2. The original ship date was 7/6, which was later updated to 7/9. Lenovo's page shows an estimated delivery of 7/16, but this could change whenever my tracking info updates.

I'm looking forward to playing with this machine. With luck perhaps it will be here by the weekend (optimism, right?). Good luck to those who are waiting.

I had a dv6t-7000 for a few weeks before returning it. The touchpad surface on the dv6 is smooth as well minus the glossy nature of Y580's touchpad. Also, the dv6 click buttons were cheap plastic that were loose. I was not impressed by the dv6 touchpad. IMHO, the Y580 is the least worst of the two.

Monitor your temps with HWMonitor and/or Core Temp and see if it reaches 90+. Usually that causes the stutters. I suggest you get yourself a cooling pad, like this: Cooler notebook Cooler-Master NotePal U2. It can lower your temps even with 10C.

Wow I ordered it on the 6/29 and it has yet to be ship. I still said in production...

I think i going to call the person I have a direct line to, he does not have a Indian accent to see if it did ship, they just didn't update my status page or something. Oh well, waiting adds to the excitement...

I'm considering buying this laptop but I don't think I need all these specs.

This laptop will be used A LOT as a desktop replacement so It'll need to be solid, 6+ hour battery life(the longer the better) and I'll be moving around a lot with it

I'll be using the Y580 for the following(main tasks):

    -Programming/Photoshop
    -Surfing the web
    -Music
    -HD 1080p Movies
-Little gaming(Might occasionally play GuildWars2/Skyrim) I don't play any other games, I don't care If I don't get to play games on high/ultra, med is fine for me..

So from this^ Do I really need this laptop? Really not sure anymore..

    If its not, any suggestions?
