Yesterday, man they hate us or something... I kind of excepted it so because the service behind lenovo sucks. So sometimes they did ship it, but do not update or send you a email about it
Edit
I called them and they told me that it will ship out sometimes this week. Not to be pessimistic, but that probably means it will ship out on Sunday of this week... So about three weeks to a month to get a laptop from lenovo...
-
hey does anyone know if the Y580 comes with veriface ?? or if the veriface software from the Y570 will work on the Y580 ????
-
I placed the order 7/5 and shipping is suppose to be this sunday 7/15, mines still in Released to Manufacturing.
BTW If you guys got any issues w/ time go to official forum, many ppl found help there w/o having to call those "Smart operators" -

Nice, finally someone tells me how long it takes to change the status lol... So I can worry if it dont change by this friday/saturday >.> but its weekend.. so.. Monday? (well its china.. 12~ hr+)

Someone here said he managed to scrape out 6.5 hours, but that was with pretty low usage. You turn on an HD video or even think about gaming and that will slide right down. -
It's pretty ridiculous, i ordered mine on june 24th, original ship date, was the fourth of july, it got bumped back to june 28th, so hurray, i actually got a tracking number, which was then retracted and the ship date was pushed back to the 4th, then it was pushed back to the 12, and now we'll see. It says it's still scheduled for the 12th but it's hit the point i'll eat my hat if it actually ships this week. And their sales people won't refund/cancel my order because it's "in production" sigh
-
-
Yeah, getting angry at the lenovo and behold my order was ship. Seem that I going to get it on Friday. Yeah!
It seems that it was ship this morning, I think they were just lazy and didn't update my status till now -
First, "order received," followed by "released to manufacturing" the next day. After two more days, "in production." When my laptop did not ship on the original target date, a new estimated ship date was given the next day.
I got an email late last night indicating that my y580 had been shipped. When I woke up this morning, a tracking number had been added to my order page. UPS expects delivery by the end of the day, 7/13. Not bad considering it's coming all the way from Shanghai.
I'd say Lenovo did a great job with status updates, and despite that my unit was in production for a few extra days it will arrive only 1 day after the first estimated date. In fact, 7/10 was the shipping estimate listed on the model page when I ordered. Assuming UPS does their job, my order will take 11 days from confirm to door.
209945U, btw. -
Yeah, my laptop took 20 days to get to me and it was DOA, pretty frustrating and getting a replacement is turning out to be hell. First of all the kid sounded 14 and he had a strong East Indian accent. He told me they no longer sold my laptop model (Y580). I asked him how that was possible, he told me he would only be able to refund me. I then told him I was going to hang up and then he said he would check again and magically my model was available! Now I am waiting for an email with a shipping label which I doubt will ever appear sigh.

Guys don't go by the order status page on lenovo order status page. My order status still says "Released to manufacturing" and I just received an Email saying my shipment has shipped and I also have tracking information. My estimated shipping date was 7/12 and it shipped 2 days earlier than estimated ship date. Delivery estimate is 7/13. I am looking forward for my new laptop. If I won't like the trackpad, I have 1 week to return without paying any restocking fee as I have already discussed my concern with one of the lenovo representative and he has agreed to make an exception for 1 week. You can return it within 21 days but then they charge 15 % restocking fee. Hope I will like it and won't have to go through the hassle of returning it.

Hey can anyone with an 3610QM 660M Y580 try the following experiment WITHOUT using a cooling pad (if you've repasted please don't do it either):
1. Start ThrottleStop and turn it to where it hits around 2.3 GHz. Uncheck BD PROCHOT.
2. Start MSI Afterburner and do not adjust the clock speeds... keep them at stock (+0).
3. Start Furmark on default settings: Keep the MSI graphs utility visible to the right of the Furmark window.
4. Start Intel Burn Test on default settings. Keep the ThrottleStop thermometers visible to the right of FurMark as well.
5. Click on the Furmark window to keep it focused.
6. Wait 15 minutes. IF AT ANY TIME THE CPU OR GPU TEMP EXCEEDS 98 CELSIUS, STOP IMMEDIATELY!!!
7. Write down the max CPU temp (of all 4 cores) and the max GPU temp on a sheet of paper. If it crashed or you had to stop, write "100+" for the offending part followed by how long the test was running. If at any time the GPU throttled (view the graph in Afterburner as it's running), then report that too.
8. Stop the tests.
9. Post the temperature numbers in the forums.
I'd like to know what it reads because I've seen screenshots from a few foreign websites showing that the Y580 has unbelievably good thermals, yet none of them show whether the CPU throttled or not.
By the way, if the test passes, could you please also repeat it again with the ThrottleStop setting on "Turbo" and, again, BFD PROCHOT disabled? -
Personally I like them smoothish. I didn't like the Lenovo dimples on previous models. -
Toshiba laptop get hot, but they hard drive is two screws away and easy taken out and put back -
Hi, I'm thinking about getting this or something comparable for the price (which is the dv6tqe I guess). I will be bringing it to classes and gaming (moderate, I spec for frames, not the best graphics) on it when it's in my dorm.
Concerning the Y580, I just have a few questions.
1. Is the HDD heat a problem? Would getting the 5400 RPM HD be a way to keep temps down? And are cooling pads, such as the U3, an efficient way to keep HDD heat down in the Y580?
2. Is the glossy screen usable in varied light situations? I've used several glossy screens, and some have been passable if you need to use them with a light behind or in the sun for a bit - and some are unusable. How does the Y580 fair? -
Ok I do not know if other people had this problem, but my UPS tracking information makes no sense. It departed from China on 7/11 at 8:55pm?
-
Well yesterday I was checking my cc and notice that the pre-auth from Lenovo dropped, so got my money back... Did call them to know If everything was ok with the order, they said yes, and that it was suppose to be shipped next week(same thing about shipping they tell everyone) and that it will be billed in that time.
I hope it's true... If not I guess I will have to get one of those Samsung series 7 off amazon. I'll know next week.

i wonder when the us site will release the I5 ivy bridge models and the version with the orange trim and patterned aluminum back like the y480 has in some regions .......... any one got the i5 version and which is more power efficient the i5 or i7 cuz i think an i7 can shut down some cores and use less power

I have some questions. I have the 20994CU model.
Was wondering if you can change out the GPU and can it support 16GB of ram?
Can i change the Harddrive out to SSD?
What can i change and what cant i change. I bought this overa macbook pro. Make a good choice? I need it for power/relaiblity. This laptop has to last a while. 2 years. Or 3...
What do you guys think? Any help much appreciated.

as for ram idk specs say up to 8gb but it should support 16gb in 2 x gb form
yes you can change the HDD to an SSD HDD but i think it would be better if you bought a 128gb or 256gb Msata SSD (its like a large wifi card but is a hdd) so u get ssd speed and keep the large storage of the rotational HDD
macbook pro if u got the money go for it
if you need windows and the power the Y580 is gr8
any laptop can last 2 or 3 years of you take care of it (mine is on 2 years but it got hit by a power surge hence y i need a new 1 (it still going a year and some months after the power surge just giving alot of issues now)
this laptop is well built if you want a windows pc with macbook like build quality the dell XPS15 l521x is up your alley but bear in mind the dell has throttle issues an is not as powerful as the lenovo
the lenovo was a gr8 choice dude you should be happy with it i knw i will be when i order one -
Ill let you know. Only thing i am worried about is relaiblity. I do whatever it takes to keep dust out of it and the surrounding area ill maintain.
Hope it lasts a while. I do plan on putting bf3 on it see how it' run.
Think windows 8 will be a bigger resource hog then windows 7? -

The Y580 does support 16gb of RAM. Running it right now.
Also, in reference to an earlier post: the models with the 1TB do in fact have the mSATA slot open and ready to go. -
Guys, I've connected my y580 to my 1080p external monitor, but the picture doesn't look good at all. Any tips for making the image sharper/better contrast? Any of you have similar problems with external display (either with VGA or HDMI) being janky and not as good as previous laptops? This is certainly my experience and any help would be appreciated.
-
Its the Vga connections, if it was dvi it wouldnt do that.
you can fix it by moving it horizontally over 1 or 2 pixels until the text clears a bit.
Turn off auto adjust -
I plugged mine through HDMI and there was no problem at all. VGA is analog so there always can be some artifacts.
-
I know this is the Owners thread but I'm looking at buying one of these and was just wondering if anyone knows if there is another 10% code floating around in the UK??
The last one expired a week or so ago sadly but I hadn't made up my mind by then. -
-
So I saw that others have Y580s in customs in KY as well. I just saw that the status updated to this:
Louisville, KY, United States 07/12/2012 10:58 A.M. This shipment is warehoused until it is released by Clearing Agency.
Louisville, KY, United States 07/11/2012 6:39 A.M. Additional Clearing Agency information or documentation is required for clearance.
Is it normal for a shipment to be warehoused or has Lenovo possibly done something funky? It was scheduled to be delivered tomorrow before it hit customs. I would really like to have my laptop for this weekend ahah. -
"World ease" shipping allows Lenovo to send over a large batch of computers at once (maybe a couple hundred) that proceed through customs at the same time before moving on to their individual locations. So, if there is any issue at customs they will all be stuck. Mine was also scheduled for delivery tomorrow but has been warehoused; I'm not really banking on Friday delivery at this point.
My guess is some goon dropped a packing slip and customs is giving UPS a hard time until Lenovo can send over replacement paperwork. Or something like that. I don't think it is normal for these shipments to be "warehoused." I might give Lenovo/UPS a call later to investigate. -
After a quick google search I have found instances of other Lenovo laptops that were warehoused and then released by customs the same day (specifically a Thinkpad shipment I believe) or even just an hour later so hopefully our shipment will be one of the lucky ones. Please post here with an update if you do decide to call either company.
-
On another note, I will be happy to answer questions and actually contribute something to this thread once my computer arrives. Thanks to the current owners for contributing and helping with my decision. -
*deep breaths*
Now it says "Clearance in Progress" at the top with this edit:
"Additional Clearing Agency information or documentation is required for clearance. / Brokerage released shipment. Shipment is submitted to Clearing Agency for further clearance."
I am crossing my fingers that things go smoothly. -
And now it's back to the warehouse:
-
I'm just wondering about the timeline of your orders. When did you order it and how long has it been to get to this point in the warehouse? And when is it expected that you will actually get it?
-
I am not sure if it is still valid though, I am on my phone.
