It just feels like a keyboard. Not an issue for me. I read the concerns regarding that with Yoga 1, and since tablet is only used when that mode makes sense, AND you expect the keys, it really is no problem. In stand mode the keys are on your lap, so you don't notice.

Does anyone know if there is an app or a way to see how long the laptop has been lasting on battery?

Does anybody knows where can I find more information about the battery on the yoga?
All that it says under specs on BB and Lenovo websites is 4 Cell Li-Polymer.
I would like to know how many charge-discharge cycles this puppy has.

Take this with a grain of salt (I prefer mine on a margarita) but according to Lenovo Sales Chat representative, the battery is not user replaceable. We all know how much wrong info has been given out by the chat reps.

Let's assume for a sec that this is true. does the fact that it says "not user replaceable" suggest that the battery could be replaced be Lenovo?

Yes, I did try both the Flip 13 and Y2P briefly in BestBuy. Not long enough to notice the things you mention though. I did like the travel of the keys on the Flip better, the Y2P keys seemed more shallow.

Right now I'm dazed and confused. I feel like just not opening either computer and sending both back for full refunds. I am so disgusted that it's this hard to buy an expensive computer without problems.

2 years ago I bought a 17 inch Toshiba Satellite on a whim. Decent specs, low price and I wanted a bigger screen to use at home. I didn't expect much from it, but it's been a total workhorse, running 24/7 without a single problem. I paid around $500, and it just works. That's how things should be.

I've seen some review sites indicate that is is not USER replaceable so I that would lead me to believe that yes, Lenovo could replace it.

By the way, been unplugged for 3 hours 30 minutes and battery manager is showing 3 hours 24 minutes left. This is based on settings posted earlier plus I also used Skype for a short video chat and IM chatting.

look pal. You are seriously being annoying now. You are literally flooding this thread with all your questions bundled with a spoon feeding attitude. All of your recent questions have been answered from this thread except for the update on battery life after the BIOS and Energy Manager update.

Anyways, the Y2Pro has a 54watt hour, 7400mAh battery sealed inside. There's lenovo's tech support if you have further questions!

legzam358, part of my frustration with you is that you seem to have come out of nowhere asking a bunch of specific questions that have been covered in this forum and other places of the internet A LOT, and then complaining about the quality or specificity of the answers. And I don't know if English is your second language or what but your spelling and grammar makes you sound like a 12 yr old. It doesn't help. Its like you found a shiny new book at the library and instead of reading it from the beginning you flip to the middle, get confused, and start asking everyone what happened in the beginning.

Or in the words of the great Walter Sobchak, "You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know (what happened)".

I understand your eagerness - there are some really interesting designs out there. Unfortunately, our answers will not 100% prepare you to make a purchase. Try them out at best buy or wherever. BUY one and try it out for a week to see what its like. It's not a crime to return it!

Those are not bad numbers. Are you planning to keep it working like that until you get close to running out of juice? By the way, if you don't trust the battery manger, maybe you can give this a try: BatteryBar - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

    Thanks again for posting.

This goes all the way back to the early days of Usenet, with some people feeling that the world owes them something, then complaining when others don't promptly deliver what they want. And then their posts are (justifiably) ignored. But instead of learning from this, they blame everyone but themselves.

I've used Battery Bar in the past but what is interesting is I find my battery dies A LOT quicker with it running. On my HP Pavilion my battery would die 30-45 minutes quicker and when it only lasts 2-2 1/2 hours to begin with that is unacceptable. I just downloaded it and my time dropped immediately in both Battery Bar and the Y2P battery indicator to 2 hours 25 minutes on 1 and 2 hours 41 minutes in the other. I exited the Battery Bar and time went back up to 2 hours 52 minutes. The battery indicator has been jumping up and down since I unplugged but if I can still get 6 1/2 hours with the new BIOS update (and Energy Manager off) I'm happy.

    Hi Bearflag,

I was just wondering how the i3 version is working out for you, or if you wish you had gotten the I5 when several apps are running. I'll probably be ordering the i3 in the next few days (unless I find a reason to upgrade)

I don't know what the problem is?

I guess we see things a different way.

For example, Mds2004 ask the following in post #1057: Does anyone know if there is an app or a way to see how long the laptop has been lasting on battery?

Who cares if like playvideoondemand said, "that question have been answered from this thread." Or if like shakermaker41 said this is an “specific question that have been covered in this forum and other places of the internet A LOT”?
Mds2004 had a question, and I happened to have an answer. It is not a big deal to write a quick reply with the answer and that is what I did in post #1062. Even if I new for sure that the the answer to Mds2004's question is somewhere in this thread, why would I respond to Mds2004 telling him/her to go read the whole thread and stop asking questions that have already been answer? Wouldn't that make a Jerk?
I doubt I’m the only one that has an answered for Mds2004 question.
    Has anybody else responded?
Nobody owns me anything, bat what is the big deal with answering a question even if it have been covered in this forum and other places of the internet A LOT”? Doesn't a lot of people register to forums like this to ask questions? Sometime you may feel like reading the whole thread, and some time you just want a quick answer.
If you don't want to answer my question that is fine, but is that is the case, mind your own business and don't respond to my post at all.

Hi, I use BatteryBar before and I was not aware that it can cause probles. But, TWhiteInCO wrote this a couple of post ago:

I wish that were true. But a machine with a native resolution of 1080p will look better at 1080p than a machine with a native resolution of 3200x1800 at 1080p. The reason? Non-integral scaling... meaning that in the 1080p machine, 1 logical screen pixel = 1 physical pixel where as in the 3200x1800 screen, some pixels will be 1 physical pixel while others will be 2 physical pixels because 1920x1080 is not an integral scaling factor from 3200x1800. 1600x900 on the other hand is exactly a 2x integral scaling factor so 1 logical pixel will be represented by exactly 2 pixels in each direction x and y (4 pixels total).

So, it would be great if someone could really review if the non-integral scaling from the Y2P's native 3200x1800 is noticeable or not. I suspect it won't be horrible, but it very well could be noticeable.

When I get a chance, I'll give it a try at Best Buy.

    On resolution:
I can't give you a formal review, but the non integral scaling (e.g. 1080p on 3200x1800 native) is much much better on this machine than any other LCD or CRT I've ever used. Part of that is because the base resolution is so high that you really struggle to make out pixels at any normal viewing distance. I ran at 1080p for a few days and it felt very usable. I did not feel like I used to on an LCD running at non-native resolution, where I'd normally cringe. I'd go as far as to change other people's resolution temporarily while using their machines, but I don't see that problem here. Part of it may be the pentile technology, and that the 3200x1800 isn't actually a true 3200x1800. I don't want to start a big discussion on semantics and definitions, but there's some info that this Pentile page: Technology

It's true that if you run at 3200x1800 and everything scales properly it's beautiful. The problem is that everything doesn't scale properly, and form follows function, for me at least. I'm sure that'll change in time as more developers get on board. Also for certain people, all their apps may scale well and they may not have a problem, but that wasn't the case for me.

    About extended warranties:
There were a few posts earlier in this thread about buying Provantage warranties instead of direct from Lenovo because they were a little cheaper. Has anyone else followed up on that? I bought my laptop from Best Buy and wanted to keep my distance from Geek Squad. It looks like this is the relevant page from Provantage's website which lists options: http://www.provantage.com/lenovo-services~220209619.htm
There are a couple options which weren't available when I build a fake order at the Lenovo website. It looks like the 3 yr in home + accidental damage (ADP) is $196 instead of $239. Has anyone else gone through Provantage, and which warranty did you go with?

    About cases:
What cases are people using? I'm considering the slot in case, but I don't mind the keyboard being face out/down in other modes, and I wanted to see if there was a good case that would cover all 4 edges of the laptop. I guess I'm more concerned about drop protection and the slot in case is a little lacking there (or so it looks like from the picture.)

Not sure I quite follow what your saying but that logic is like saying 720p video looks better on a 720p display than a 1080p (which is not true)

Before I got my yoga I had a 1080p Samsung ativ book for a week and got to compare them side by side. Clearly the yoga has more screen real estate. But lowering the res to 1080p and applying the same display settings as on the Samsung (default 100% scaling) they look identical. Both equally sharp, and the yoga is much brighter. No pixelation noticeable at all.

For people hesitant about the native 3200x1800 res, it's identical to all the other fhd displays if you lower the res, expect for battery life. But you should still get better battery life by lowering the res.

The point is to get smooth text with enough pixels. I immediately notice low resolution text reading as fatigue in my eyes. It's not the size, it's the sharpness.

hey all, i'm hoping anybody help me with the following questions. i've tried searching (including this thread, but for some reason, search isn't working for me) but can't find much info on the SSD that comes with the Yoga 2, i.e. manufacturer, model number, speed, etc...

i just ordered a yoga 2 pro/i7 from best buy as well as an Intel 7260NGW AC 2x2 card (i hope this is the right one) based on this thread. it's been very informative.

-i know we can upgrade the stock SSD, but can we add another msata SSD to the yoga 2 pro, similar to the first yoga?
-is it true that the msata SSD that ships with the yoga 2 pro doesn't take full advantage of Sata 3 speeds? i vaguely remember reading that the boot times were slower as a result. in what scenario might it be worth selling the stock SSD and replacing it with something like a Mushkin Direct Atlas Deluxe 240GB?
-can anybody give me an estimated range for the bluetooth module? my dell 365 BT card has an effective range of about 10 feet with my logitech H800 headset, and 'm hoping that the yoga's BT will fare better.
-has anybody tested the real-world transfer speeds of the SD reader? i'm hoping for an improvement over the disappointing ~12-15MB transfer rate i get with my class 10 samsung card in my current laptop

    thanks in advance!

    A quick tip:

I noticed the other day my Y2P was no longer working properly when I swiped from the left. There seemed to be a 1/4 inch dead spot on the left side of my screen.

This was solved by going into Tablet Settings in the Control Panel and simply clicking "Reset" in the calibration area. Not sure how this got messed up in the first place but that solved it.

I've never seen an IPS panel on these types of devices which doesn't have at least some light bleed. The amount on my Y2P is minor yet it can get worse depending upon how often I am moving the screen. In my experience with the Flip unit in the store, the light bleed was quite a bit worse than on my Y2P.

Of course yours might be far worse than mine. It's kind of the lottery with regards to these panels.

This is very highly dependent on how well the image is scaled. With integral scaling, that one pixel is always represented by 4 pixels, so there is no variation in quality. With non-integral scaling the software/hardware has to decide if each pixel is going to be represented by 4 pixels or two or whatever is needed. I have seen a wide variety in quality on HDTV's when it comes to displaying 720p or standard content. It all comes down to how good the scaler is and the content that you are watching. Scaling issues are less apparent when displaying moving images and video than when viewing high contrast and precise images like text.

I apologize in advance if this has already been covered, but it is simply infuriating me.... When using the trackpad and moving the mouse around, the system seems to interpret my cursor movement as the "swipe in from the left side" switch programs. I'm bouncing between apps way too often. I would rather not turn off trackpad gestures, as I do use them. But I can't get the system to stay on the program I am working on.

The funny thing is that when I want to change programs using the left swipe, it usually takes a couple of tries. But it switches erratically way too often. Does anyone have a suggestion?

That's kind of bizarre. Go into tablet settings in Control Panel and Reset the Calibration to default. See if that helps at all.

I have been using the new touchpad software driver from the original Yoga section on Lenovo's website. The new driver is from a few weeks ago for the original Yoga and works better for me than the one that came with the Y2P. May want to give it a shot.

I have said this before, but I'll say it again : at least for MY eyes, I lowered the resolution of the Y2PRO to 1920x1080 and compared it to all the other native 1920x1080 resolution screens at BB, and it was clear that the Y2PRO screen swept the floor with the other screens! That's why I got one in the first place. Cheers.

I think that a pattern like mine is more realistic that running some movie straight for 5hrs or something. I wouldn't have enough time to do this. :)

Hello Everyone, This is my first post on any forum. I have just bought a yoga 2 after following this forum for a while but i have a problem and was wondering if others could check their yoga 2's for the same issue. The Synaptics Pointer device seems to be using a serious amount of battery power and is constantly one of the highest power consumers in lenovo energy management up to 80% at times, its eating the battery. Is anyone else report excess power consumption for this device. Sry if this is already covered but i couldn't find any information. Also is anyone got problems with backlight bleed was wondering should i replace mine. Thanks

I totally agree. It is the similar to what happen when some people got caught up in endless discussions about performance benchmarks tests, most people don't by a laptop just base on that. User experiences and reviews speak volumes.

I’m afraid this may be another trade-off. SynTPEnh.exe is one of those processes that grabs large amounts of CPU resources; I don’t know of any other solution rather then use an usb mouse and kill the process. Hopefully there is a better solution that I haven’t learned yet.

I don't have the answers to all your questions but I know the y2p only has one ssd slot.

Thanks for the reply legzam I appreciate you giving your time. I think I will give the mouse a try and see if it makes any difference to the battery. May I ask if you or anyone has experienced backlight bleed on their yoga 2? I am debating whether to send my back for a replacement but am worried that it might be a problem with the yoga 2 in general. Am I expecting to much looking for no backlight bleed on this machine?

This may have already been covered in an earlier post but I just noticed that, having installed the BIOS/energy update yesterday, the brightness decrease now does not go down to black/off, but down to a nice very dim setting. There's a separate key (I think two down -- I don't have it in front of me) for toggling the screen to black. Excellent small improvements.

I agree! Unless I'm on a plane it would be highly unlikely I'd get to watch 5 hours of movies! The test I did last night got me 6 hours 35 minutes after the BIOS update with the Energy Manager off in Power Saver mode at 50% brightness in 3200 x 1800 with wifi, outlook, skype (short video chat and IMing), websurfing and posting on this thread several times. So what I get from that is the Energy Manager does impact the battery greatly but turn it off (I turn it on only when yellows are important) and the BIOS update itself did not affect battery.

I have used the Y2PRO on stand mode while in my couch and on my bed, and it feels great! I have no issues with the keyboard. I'm just so mesmerized by the screen, I don't even think about anything else. ;)

    You are very welcome!

I don't own the Y2P, but for what I have read, some people notices backlight bleed, and others don't, so it seams to be a bit like a lottery. I guess it also depends of haw dark or light the screen is. Do you notice the backlight when you are reading text on a white background?

Regarding the mouse, if you are more use to using a track-pad, Logitech for example, sells an external track-pad, similar to the magic track-pad from Apple. And Lenovo have something that looks like a hybrid between a mouse and an external track-pad.
