I agree with you when you question people who say "I have been a Windows user for 20 years and last year I went Mac and I'll never look back!" It must be nice to have the expendable income to rebuy thousands of dollars of software for a new OS.
I honestly think that at least 60% of it is just trolling. People who already own an Macbook, never tried the Y2P, and are just justifying their purchase. Not saying that everyone is doing this, but I have a feeling that there are many who do. I've actually owned both, and I know where my preferences lie. Both have strengths and drawbacks. Nothing is perfect.
No new hardware is without fault. The new rMBP has several issues, including system freezing and keyboard/trackpad unresponsiveness. It's just the lay of the land. For some reason, through the magic of internet anonymity, people just love to bash things and have brand loyalty.
I try to let my money talk instead of spewing empty words on the internet.

If you are really a windows user you will never get past the idiotic apple keyboard that doesn't have a backspace key at all but instead has a delete key that functions as a backspace key which of course leaves you with no delete key..only Jobs could come up with that.

Has anyone installed that Webroot program that they give you for free at BB with your Yoga? I haven't. I thought that windows defender was enough? Or am I wrong?

So for those of you with orders in for Y2P with Lenovo you might want to check again on the delivery date. I had placed an order last month for a top spec machine which had a shipping date of 10/30. This got pushed back to 11/5. And now when I check it's listing 11/22. I really needed one sooner rather than later and that is the reason I chose to order the Y2P instead of the Thinkpad Yoga which has not been announced yet, but will likely be released soon for order/preorder and shipping at around the same time as the Y2P that I ordered last month!
I'm going to call Lenovo and see what they can do to change my order to a Thinkpad Yoga if I have to wait anyway ... -
I thought about the new rMBP when my Y2P order started getting delayed. It's hardware specs seem significantly better in all performance-related respects, and the screen would be excellent I'm sure.
But I really want/need a current Windows system since that's my primary platform, and while Macs can make fine Windows systems there are definitely trade-offs in terms of the keyboard and likely battery life without all of the platform specific optimizations in Mac OS.
Also while I've never had a problem with an iOS device, I have had pretty terrible experiences with Mac systems. For example I have a 2010 MacBook Air which was a total lemon. After being heavily in use for an hour or so it starts corrupting memory randomly resulting in various crashes as well as periodic file corruption. Apple could never find anything wrong with it and refused to replace any part of it while it was under warranty. Since the warranty has expired, the screen now flickers on and off with half the horizontal lines missing, making it 100% unusable unless I set it on a block of ice (or something similar) and use remote desktop to access it. Needless to say it sits unused.
Dual booting MacOS/Windows is a pain (what you want is always in the "other" OS), and you have to carve up the disk into two pieces if you want to natively run both OSes.
The MBPs have nice industrial design, but their aluminum cases are not really any less subject to breakage and scratches than anything else, so you still have to treat them with kid gloves like any other "Designed by Apple in the warm dry desert climate of California" device.
So my Y2P is still on order for now. I'm hoping I can reuse the nice case I bought for the MBA with the Y2P

Is there enough horsepower in these things to run the Adobe CS Suite? I have a copy of the CS5 suite, that I use on my desktop, and am moving to the Windows world to make use of it on a laptop. Am I going to run into any bottlenecks due to the i7 on these things running below 2Ghz or from the Intel 4400 "gpu"? I do mostly web development, but I normally run InDesign + Illustrator + Photoshop + a bunch of tabs in Chrome at any given time. My 2008 MBP handles it alright with CS4. I figure that since this hardware is 5 years newer I shouldn't have a problem, but I just wanted to get the thoughts of people that actually own these things.

For those who placed a recent order, Lenovo has a coupon for $300 off the Y2P making it the same price as at BB AND you can get it in orange. Also if you get a discount on the extended warranty Coupon code is: EMAIL4YOGA2PRO

BTW, the orange that I ordered yesterday is showing an expected delivery of 11/15 -

Today is the last day I could return mine to BB but I won't just because I'd prefer a colored body. I would trade it but won't return it. I love this machine. It's not 100% perfect but then again neither am I!ferrydust likes this. -

Just got my i7/8GB/256GB Y2P shipped by BB yesterday! I really like the laptop. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to clean the fingerprint oils off the trackpad.

I keep getting a request to update Intel Experience Center Driver to 1.8.0. Anybody else do this yet? When I try it says I need to uninstall it first, but then I'm not sure it will ask me to update again and don't want to break the install.

Is anyone else having problems with the Y2P not going into tent mode? Every program I try won't switch although the Yoga Picks app is stating it is in tent mode?

When I'm playing flash video for approx 20-30min the back part of my Y2P becomes quite hot to the touch. Anyone else experience this? Processor is only reaching 55 degrees though.

Intel® Experience Center (Intel® EC) is a Windows 8* Store application that must be pre-configured by the manufacturer. The application does not work unless your computer came pre-installed with Intel® EC.
Gonna have to check with Lenovo I guess.
On another note: How do you bring up the Keyboard in Tent mode using the desktop. I am in Firefox and can't figure out how to do it. Excel either for that matter. Comes up automatically for a new email in Outlook, but not until you go into "subject" area of new email. -
EDIT: about ur original question. You should invest in some microfiber cloths. I buy them in bulk because there's no match when it comes to cleaning any of ur electronics -

Hi all,
I am thinking about wiping the SSD clean and doing a fresh Windows 8 Pro install. A few questions here:
1. Good idea? Bad idea?
2. I will use a volume key for Pro. But where do I find the key the machine comes with, just in case?
3. What are your thoughts on UEFI bootable install? I don't know a whole lot what it is but think that the fact that we only see Lenovo logo followed by the lockscreen on cold startup has to do with UEFI and I want to keep it that way with WIn 8 Pro. Am I right on this?
4. What are the absolute minimum number of Lenovo apps that are need to run the machine? I disabled Lenovo transitions app and things are ok. So I am thinking pretty much no Lenovo apps needed? What about energy manager?
5. Anything else I need to know?
6. Can anyone share their experience on Yoga 2 or Yoga 1?
Thanks. -
The one I have coming in the mail is from http://www.skinstyler.com/pc/, but I have no idea how good it is yet.
I'm not worried about the screen on the Yoga, but at the same time I take really good care of my stuff and the gorilla glass is very durable. No protector there -
-
In regards to the Windows key, the first thing I do when companies try to keep me from my bought-and-paid-for Windows key is run this http://www.winkeyfinder.com/. I've already tried it multiple times on Windows 8.1 x64, works like a charm. The best part is that it's self contained (doesn't install).TWhiteInCO likes this. -
Anyone else having problems with Dragon Assistant not working or better yet, found a solution? Once it starts and I say "Hello Dragon" I get a beep but the icon does not light up and it does nothing. If I click on the icon then I get the spinning circle of death and then it closes. Haven't found a solution on the Lenovo Community and the updater say it is updated.
-
Great idea. So what are the dimensions of the touchpad so I can pre-order one of these?
Thanks. -
Does anyone know whether Gorilla glass is used on the yoga 2 pro? It does say "Corning glass" on the lenovo site, but Corning makes other glass as well.. for example "Eagle Xg" is used in laptop manufacturing. Only thinkpads are mentioned as having Gorilla on the Corning website, ideapads are not.

Anyone order a sleeve for the YP2 yet? Do the mac ones for 13.3 work good.
I am thinking this one from case logic?
Amazon.com: Case Logic LAPS-113 13.3-Inch Laptop / MacBook Air / MacBook Pro Retina Display Sleeve (Black): Computers & Accessories -
I am still waiting on a resolution, but other than the YMC service everything works great -
I bought the sleeve for the Y2P, nice thing is the cutouts for the ports. Not sure I would rely on the sleeve alone for protection though, and you need to be careful how you carry your device, it will slip out of the sleeve. Main reason I bought the sleeve is for tablet mode, I will slip it on to protect the keyboard.

Safe to assume this is not Gorilla glass or they would have advertised it as such, as they are doing with Thinkpads. Let me say something about the screen though. I have always bought Thinkpads in the past and thought that because I am particular and notice things that a glossy screen would drive me nuts. Even more so one with fingerprints from touching it. Turns out I was so wrong and I'll never go back to a matte screen again. It looks to me like the Thinkpad Yoga is probably going to have some anti-glare matte on it which would be a huge downgrade for me. Yes, I miss that nice keyboard and the trackpoint but having such a beautiful shiny screen is such a major upgrade, as are the speakers (though it looks like the Thinkpad Yoga is, surprisingly, also going to have good speakers as it lists them as Dolby).
For others considering the Thinkpad I would also consider that it's going to make a much worse tablet because it is thicker and heavier. The Yoga 1 was barely thicker and heavier but I am surprised how much better the Y2P is to carry and use as a tablet (still not great as a tablet, but better). The Thinkpad is almost a full pound heavier and that thickness just won't feel good at all, plus the screen will have the negatives of lower resolution, smaller size, and (probably) matte. It will be more bombproof and have a better keyboard experience but even for this writer (I am a professor who uses this for work and multimedia) I will not go back to the Thinkpad line. Weight and quality of the screen mean much more.
Finally, although I wish this machine had Gorilla Glass, I don't think it's as big an issue as it would be for a tablet or phone simply because its screen won't be exposed as often. Tablets and phones have no cover and get scratches on their screens but I have never scratched a laptop screen because when I'm not using it it is folded and protected. Seems like Gorilla does claim to do better with smudges and I definitely notice those on my Y2P but that's only when the machine is off. Once the screen is on I can't see the smudges at all, and that's coming from a longtime Thinkpad user who thought he always needed matte and would be bothered by any glares, smudges, or other imperfections.

Amazon Basics sells an identical case for half the price. Other posts say it is snug but works well and isn't too hard to get in and out. Amazon.com: AmazonBasics 13.3-inch Laptop / MacBook Air / MacBook Pro / MacBook Pro Retina Display Sleeve (Black): Computers & Accessories
EDIT: Just checked and there is one significant difference: the Case Logic has some protective foam whereas the Amazon Basics does not. Hmm, I might rethink this based on that and spend the extra money for the CaseLogic based on that. But if you don't need the foam seems smart to save the money and go with Amazon. I would assume sizes are identical. Because the Y2P is touch screen it has a wider bevel and longer dimensions than most ultralight laptops but most reports are that it still fits, although snugly, inside sleeves designed for 13.3" laptops.
