I am frustrated with my Y2P purchase. I purchased the I7, 8GB, 256GB SSD model from Best Buy for $1199 on 10/20. I didn't know what to expect. I had been infatuated with the concept of the origial Yoga and was closely following the announcements around the Y2P. The announced specs were great, but I was concerned that the cost for such specs would be too much for me (I guessed around $1500-$1800).

I knew about the yellow issues prior to buying the Y2P. I figured I would try it out for 15 days and if it didn't justify the cost then I would return it. After a week and a half, I have come to accept the yellow issue and it is an issue even with the High Perf setting. The only time I really notice it is when I know something should be yellow and it is closer to mustard. For example, highlighted items in Excel. The other issue is that base of the laptop is a little warped so that it rocks ever so slightly on the left side when I begin to type. It does take time to get use to the high res screen, but I have found a comfortable scaling size of 225% and have tolerated the apps that don't scale well. Windows 8.1's Modern UI does not have many useful apps the make the tablet mode very compelling. I wish IAnnotatePDF had a Windows Modern UI version! I do use Windows desktop in tablet mode and it works fairly well.

So my ultimate issue is that I really like this laptop and must now let go of the $1,200 I paid for it :)

Question: Do you think that the Thinkpad Yoga having the 1920x1080 screen instead of the PenTile screen in the YP2 will mean that it will not demonstrate the color accuracy issues that the YP2 seems to suffer? While the ultra HD of the YP2 sounds nice, as a photographer I would much rather lose resolution and gain some color accuracy.

    Hi all,

I've been playing with my new Yoga 2 for a week now. I like how light, fast and quiet the machine is. I do however feel the machine is kind of buggy and wanted to see if anyone else was having similar issues. Windows 8.1 makes me feel like an idiot but I'm slowly learning how to customize everything to my liking. On to the issues:

    1. I tried to download the Dragon Assistant installer and the installation didn't work properly. Now I can't find the installer anywhere on my computer to relaunch it. I am able to find it when I'm in control panel/uninstall program but I only have the option to uninstall from the machine, not repair it. Where the heck is the dang installer?!?

    2. I wasn't able to download iTunes, after a few unsuccessful tries I went to an online forum and someone having the same issues posted an alternative link for the download and that seemed to have done the trick.

    3. I have duplicate apps listed under my start pin, like the Lenovo phone companion is listed under two different sections and it's driving me NUTS!

    4. My screen seems to flicker every once in awhile, is this common with other Yoga 2 users?

I guess I'm trying to find out if others have had the same issues as I have, if there are solutions to the issues and if I should ultimately return the machine because it's faulty and try to get another one.

Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My new Y2P is on a brown truck heading my way. I don't know if I should keep it or just carry it to Best Buy and return it. With the reported imminent release of the Thinkpad version, I wondering if it might be the smarter buy. The only concern that I have is the possibility that the Thinkpad will ship with its own set of issues.

I have become so accustomed to using my T and W machines that this thing has me concerned.

I was in the same boat. Open it up and try it out. You have 15 days to return it. The Thinkpad is very attractive too, but I think the Yoga's size/weight will be better for me than that locking keyboard and a stylus. I guess that's why they make different models!

Make sure in advanced power options you have wireless adapter settings to high performance on both battery and plugged in. Second go into the adapter itself in device manager and under power config uncheck the box that allows the system to shut it off. You shouldn't be having these problems unless you have a bad adapter.

I have the same problem. I bought it on a whim just to check it out and now I like it so much I want to keep it. I know there is absolutely nothing even close to it for $1200 so my thought process now is to either keep it or return it and go buy a tablet or something to hold me over.

What material is the top and bottom shell of this ultrabook made of? I saw one yesterday and I can't tell if it's plastic, metal, or what. How durable is it to wear and tear?

I'm trying to order one for pickup in a NYC BestBuy, but it shows up as "unavailable" for all stores in the area. Any idea when it will be available again? I'm looking for the i7 8GB 256GB version.

    Thanks!

Here is a solution for your fourth concern(screen flickering). It worked great for me thanks to a tip from another member in the Y2pro forums! :

I had the same issue with the screen brightness/backlighting. The first thing I did was to make sure that the automatic brightness control that uses an ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness was turned off. I did this by going into the control panel on the desktop and selecting Power Options. It will display the different power modes and on the right is an option to "change plan settings." Click on that for the power mode that you are in and then click "change advanced power settings" at the bottom of the window. Scroll down and click "Display" and then "Enable adaptive brightness" and turn it off.

Doing that kept the display from changing due to the ambient light but the backlighting would still change by itself, especially when switching between light and dark images, which sounds like what might be happening to you. I found a fix for the Yoga 13 that seems to fix this problem. Right click on the desktop and select "intel graphics properties." Select the "on battery" tab and turn off "Display Power Saving Technology." It seems like this attempts to reduce power consumption by adjusting the backlighting depending on what's being displayed but I found it extremely irritating

So today is the last day for me to return my Y2pro, and I am more happy with it because my touchpad is working better(with the yoga1 latest driver) and my screen is not flickering anymore! I still have the eye sore on my lid(tiny imperfection), but I don't want to have to go through installing office again(which was a PITA!), since I have hit my download limit and don't know if another call to get a 48 digit number would work again. Not only that, BB is out of my model! Good news is that my yoga's frame is not bent and my wifi is rock solid! Could you live with a tiny hair like imperfection? If I show it to somebody, I have to point it out, if not, they can't see it. I know that I'm being picky, but we are talking about a $1279 object here. I can live with the yellow and 6hr battery life. I just can't find another laptop that even comes close to the Yoga.
This is my last concern! :

Just as a heads up. For those of you having trouble finding them in stock at Best Buy, Lenovo.com has released a coupon for the Yoga 2 Pro which gives $300 off and brings the i7/8GB/256GB version down to the best buy price. (and you would be able to order the orange for 1199 as well) just use the coupon code EMAIL4YOGA2PRO. It seems to only take $150 off the i3 version to bring that down to $899 and $250 off the i5/4GB/256GB version to make it $999.

Considering the wear and tear it will eventually get, if the rest of it is perfect I would not worry about that. Wouldn't you hate to send it back and get one with a perfect paint job but a screen with worse light bleed, a warped frame, a sticky keyboard, loose hinges? Heck, my current $3000+ laptop now has the manufacturing stickers peeling off the bottom, half the paint worn off the palmrest, little chips and scrapes in the paint on the corners, and do you think I or anyone else who looks at it actually cares about those things? Nope!

All good logical points! You are right! I run the risk of getting another machine with worse problems! What do you think about the clementine version on Lenovo's site? I could get that if I return mine, but I run the risks that you mentioned. It costs the same as the grey one at BB, but it says estimated ship date 11/19 which is almost a month from now! I think that I'm going to follow your advise. It's going to get scratched anyways. I'm also thinking that the clementine orange is easier to scratch no? This reminds me of the time when you get a new car: When you see the first scratch, it's like damn!, but after you get more scratches, you are like, whatever! lol.

With that coupon, my total comes out to $1226.56, for the I7 clementine version, which is actually cheaper than the $1274.99 silver I7 version at BB for a savings of $48.43. The only drawback is that shipping is estimated to be until 11/19! I could return my silver version today, but run the risk of getting something worse, and I would have to wait for more than half a month. Decisions, decisions.

Can you tell us how? $1199 plus tax etc. is $1274.99 in most places? How are you saving another $48.43? Thanks.

What I did was to put the Yoga on the BB cart(I live In San Antonio TX), so when I compared that price with the price from the Lenovo site, there is a $48.43 difference using the coupon EMAIL4YOGA2PRO]. Just as simple as that. Do it and you will see the difference in price. Lenovo: $1226.56(including taxes and free shipping) I7 Clementine 256/8GB. Best Buy : $1274.99(including taxes). So 1274.99-1226.56= a $48.43 in savings. I just did it again to confirm.

I'm seriously considering returning my dull silver for a clementine version! I could put the accidental insurance just in case I get a dud, which is only like $98 extra for two years.

I'd expect that your chances of getting a machine without issues are higher than getting a machine with [non-standard] issues; but I agree it's always a risk.
I've been one of the lucky ones, it seems:
    • My hinges and build all seem very solid, no creaking, no unevenness. Looks and feels great.
    • I have the yellowing issue in the screen but to be honest I would not have noticed if it weren't pointed out (but I would have noticed on my own very quickly if I had started doing any graphics work on it); I'm hopeful that a software update will help to improve that. Meanwhile, images and movies and all have looked simply splendid on this screen.
    • My software all seems to be working the way it's supposed to (and then improved through various tips generously provided by others in these forums), with the exception of the "mobile phone assistant" application, which I really want to use but it won't connect consistently and constantly asked me to install on startup (even though it's already installed?) so I finally conceded and uninstalled; uninstalling things tends to solve those outright.
    • I think I've mostly convinced the touchpad to stop being so sensitive and frequently throwing Windows 8(.1) start screen at me, but at least that's quickly escaped through ESC key (and I think in the end I'll win that battle so it will stop doing that altogether unless explicitly called).
    • I like the keyboard, although I really wish it were not as smooth-surfaced as it is; they used such fabulous matte surfaces pretty much everywhere else on the machine (besides the super smooth and fingerprint/oil magnets of the screen and especially the touchpad). I also believe that "close program" and "refresh program" should not be right next to each other if they are single-button presses; that's just silly.
    • It does run rather warm... not enough to burn my bare lap, but enough that I'll never worry about freezing to death anywhere near it this winter, and enough that I'll make some effort to give it breathing/cooling room.
    • I have no useful observations to share about the battery, except that I feel comfortable carrying it without a charger if I'm anticipating needing not too much more than 4-5 hours (to be perfectly safe, and understanding that I like to do a lot of multi-tasking). I would expect it to do better than that, but that would be my very off-handed general impression/comfort level.
    • The touchscreen is very responsive, a delight to use. The crazy resolution is more of a pain than not (due to compatibility issues in older programs) but I wouldn't really want to downgrade my resolution; I love the amount of screen real estate it gives me.

I like it. I still really wish it had a digitizer, without sacrificing any more size and weight and battery life, but I guess that combination will turn up in time, and hopefully will be perfectly polished by the time I'm due to upgrade(/abandon) this one. For now,

I haven't posted in this thread for a while - but I've been actively reading every page. For those coming into the thread now, and are getting the impression that it is impossible for this system to display an acceptable rendering of the color yellow, I wanted to post a couple of images I snapped with my phone last night. (they can also be seen here: http://goo.gl/hoAQ1V )

The Chrome Logo was one of the most noticeable indicators that the yellow was not right when the system is in one of the lower-power modes. Here are a couple of shots showing what I consider a perfectly acceptable rendering of the color yellow when the system is in maximum performance mode (via the Lenovo power management software).

    IMG_20131030_225736.jpg IMG_20131030_225824.jpg

I also loaded some images from my Nikon D600 directly onto the Y2P last night and was browsing through them. Viewing images on a display this size with a pixel density of this magnitude is an amazing experience. I'm now completely spoiled when it comes to larger displays (as in not a phone or smaller tablet). I've been spoiled with smaller pixel-dense displays now for a couple of years (HTC One @ 312 PPI and more recently the Nexus 7 2013 @ 323 PPI). The Y2P i7/8/256 also eats these 24 megapixel JPEG and RAW images for lunch - it was an amazingly smooth experience when browsing and zooming in and out of these images.

This system will be perfectly fine for me when it comes to photo processing (speaking as a very serious amateur and not a working professional photographer). For anything I have that I would consider "super critical" - I'd just spend a few moments reviewing the color accuracy on an external monitor if I was really worried.

Anyway, just some thoughts now that I've used this system on and off now for a couple of weeks. I purchased it as a primary system for my wife, so I typically only get time on it when she is sleeping. :)

OK, so I just returned my I7 silver version(in the Alamo Ranch BB, San Antonio if someone wants to buy it), and it seems that what the BB website says and what you actually pay at the store is way off. I say this because I got returned $1298.99($99 in tax) into my card instead of $1274.99. I didn't even realize this due to the fact that my receipt was wonky since I had originally bought a Lenovo 430touch and returned it that same day, so I never bothered to add the prices on both receipts. In that case, $1298.99-1226.56= a savings of $72.43 if I were to order the clementine version! I'm sure glad I did return it then! Not sure If I want to order right now. Maybe might as well wait for black Friday and see what happens? I know, I know. If I keep that up, I'll never buy anything. :)

$1499? is that on the Lenovo website? Mine says $1399. I'm sorry I didn't notice that I was choosing the I5 version instead of the I7. My apologies. But it's still cheaper than BB by $19.06!

I wonder what the performance difference could be between these two if you are not a power user like me.(I only use my laptop for web browsing, office, videos and other mundane stuff?) Would I notice the difference? How about battery life? would the I7 have better battery life than the I5?

I ordered mine off the Lenovo website in Canada. $1100 plus taxes for i5/8gb/256GB SSD for the clementine version. However, the ship date of 11/4 and delivery of 11/12 changed today to 11/25 and 12/02. That is a in' outrage!

Did you have a rep's ID attached to your order? Perhaps you can still call in and get one of the reps to adopt your order so they can help see it through, make sure it processes and gets out to you smoothly and sooner rather than later.

I would try opening a chat window on their website and see if the rep can adopt you; choose one that you like, you can always open a new chat. I'm a fan of acting and ordering online on my own with no humans required too, but you want your computer sooner than the either regular or unpredictable mechanical process and all the potential delays involved that is involved in shipping the machine to your hands; if it costs you a bit of human interaction, you may find that well worthwhile when you're typing any complaints about it from your new Yoga 2 Pro :)

    Wow that sucks man

I can't believe how every best buy is sold out (are they selling the i5/256gb yet?) I was just shopping around online and noticed this new lenovo.. Which wasn't even on my radar. Luckily I live in between 3 bb's that are within 10 min, and they had 1 between the 3 of them.

I ordered it initially but I cancelled it when I saw you can get it from John Lewis for the same price with a 2 year guarantee. Delivery for the orange is 4 weeks (7 days for silver) but I can wait so I ordered the orange.

It's a bit tricky to navigate to the orange one in jl's website. I found the silver one by googling and then the orange one was linked to on that page.

Does anyone know if the Best buy will ever release the clemantine orange version of the yoga 2 pro? Someone mentioned that they never did for the previous version of the yoga (silver only) so my suspicions tell me probably not. But then again, with the orange being on backorder off lenovo's website I'm hoping they will release it later in a month or so, a best buy rep had no idea.

I really want the i5 orange and if I could get it for the 999 price (as the silver is 999 for the i5) then that price can't be beat it seems. Obviously after tax Im looking at 1100 (10% here in chicago!) but I've tried calling lenovo and they said they won't price match, so does anyone have any advice? Should I just buy the orange off lenovo's site (i5) with a coupon code and bother rep after rep to have the price match with BB pay the 1150 or should I wait and hope best buy offers it to save 50 bucks?

    Thanks.

Instead of Clementine Orange, they should offer Mustard Yellow version. Users would assume that since it is mustard yellow themed that the yellows should be mustard as well and the complaints will disappear. :)

I sadly returned my Y2pro, and I think for the price tag we should get at least 10hrs of battery life, even under heavy load! I just do not think that I was getting my money's worth, or am I asking for too much?(I always add the last part).

Unless I'm blind, the Canadian website doesn't seem to have a live chat feature. Oh well - maybe i'll see if I can get it anywhere else faster, and then possibly cancel

I also unfortunately returned my yoga 2 pro i7 a few days ago.

Couldn't deal with having to turn on max performance every bootup even if the fix is eventually on its way. Mine also had sporadic fan spin ups which was really annoying, no inverse two finger scrolling, battery life, but everything else was great, I almost kept it!

I just realized that I couldn't compromise not having enough ports, dgpu and the real estate of a 14 inch screen.

I just do not think that we were getting our moneys worth! $1000+ SHOULD have all of the following: Full HD screen(190x1080), a freaking Ethernet port!, 250GB SSD, I'm fine with 4GBRam, back lit keyboard, and at least 10hrs of battery life on ANY setting!, and yoga-like convertible. Most manufactures start with a high asking price and only 128GB SSD and middling battery life for right now(at least from what I have seen)

I also gave mine up, but I had the wifi issues that would not clear up with driver updates or changing the setting in device manager. I think the machine is terrific but the 13" size was also just a bit too unwieldy for me. I like carrying a device with me throughout the day and being able to handle it easily with one hand. I've determined that the 11s is a better fit ergonomically. I just wish it had the QHD screen, an active stylus, LTE connectivity, and about 1/2 a pound lighter weight :)

Here is what they should do with the 11s : 256gb SSD, 1920 x1080 full HD, 4GB memory (I'm fine with that), dual band ac, back-lit keyboard, ethernet port and 10 + hours of battery life on any power settings(in real life, not just on a specs sheet) I would gladly shell out 1000+ for something like this.

Lenovo Canada's website is USELESS - no live chat, no "ask a question", no email addresses, no way to submit sales questions. It's the 800 number during standard business hours or bust. And when I called that, I got a US sales rep who had no idea about Canadian specifics like which keyboard the Yoga will be coming with, and whether warranties are transferrable... and everywhere he went on the site to look, it didn't say and the call ended with me knowing nothing more than I did before.

my local Best Buy has 2 open box Y2P's which they discounted $150.. this color issue is definitely a huge problem for Lenovo.

Speaking as someone who returned theirs, I'd say the color issue is one of a few factors contributing to them being returned. Lenovo went for the spec sheet "holy grail" but failed to execute properly. The PC market is vastly different than it was even just 2 years ago - it's more competitive, and customers demand more from a $1000+ product. Lenovo got the spec sheet right, and the price has moved quite a few units quickly - but just how many of those units are going to come back?

It's a shame..I was really excited about my Y2P when I first got it (check my post history), yet it only took around 10 days for me to realize it had to go back.

Well, this was my first time trying Lenovo.. I have always bought Asus and Samsung laptops.. but i liked what the Yoga 2 had to offer.

    It didn't last long...

I figured... Ultra Portable well get me some good battery life.. I mean lenovo claims i believe 9 hours or something...but the best with everything turn to minimum I could get only 5 hours..

Even my sisters macbook pro retina with a normal processor gets more battery life....

    the major issue for me..

was spending 1199 + tax on a laptop that suffered the issue with color reproduction... unacceptable.. just like one HP i tried the envy that had color issues that went back this one went back as well..

    here is a picture..

Running at high performance to get a somewhat accurate color is not a solution.. and not a good one while sacrificing battery
