Went on Best Buys website to try and order the i7 today and came up with nothing in CT....all stores out of stock. Read on here that I should go to store anyway and see if they have in stock. Went to Waterford, CT and nothing...none in stock. I asked the guy who has it and he said Enfield, CT. Called them up and she said she had one...sweet. but I had to pick up today and she couldn't hold it. Drove up there and there it was. sweet. 1276 all in with tax. That was their last one. So the stores inventory doesn't match the internet best buy because the internet showed enfield with no stock....thanks forum for the tip. Now I gotta figure out metro....I cant stand it..lol...

Someone else asked this same question so when I plugged in my Yoga I listened for it and sure enough, I don't hear a rattling noise though it's more like a faint hum. I found it pretty weird because none of my other notebooks have ever made any noise when plugged in.
But to answer your question, yes others have mentioned a noise plugged in so it's not just yours. Not sure if that's good or bad lol. -
Well you obviously didn't read my previous post or all of this one. It's not just the yellow, but the fact they got this simple error through QC gives me pause. What other QC issues might pop up in the coming months. Also, I have a return window to abide by as well. So I took the opportunity to test out a competitor, the surface pro 2. When a company releases a lesser than expected quality control product, that's what people do, try out other options. If the surface does not work out I could always re-order the yoga but I don't think with the color issue's I will. Also, I am willing to wait on the color fix to see how battery life is affected. If haswell yoga with fix is boasting a whopping 3-4 hours, then I won't be the one stuck with it trying to sell it for way less than I paid. No one is buying haswell for less than 6 hour battery, at least I'm not.
-
I had the same experience, the website said that there were none available, but I called the store with the sku and they had one in stock. Drove down and picked it up, i am typing on it now. I would suggest giving Best Buy a call, it can not hurt.
-
Not sure why that would fix it as it does it when the laptop is plugged in.
-
I disagree. I actually prefer the keyboard on my Y2P over my MBA and MBPr. Key travel is perfect and maybe it has something to do with the odd-shaped keys (instead of square) but I tend to make less mistakes on my Y2P then any mac. I also love that my palms don't get sweaty and burnt to a crisp from the ridiculously hot aluminum heat sink palm rest on my macs. The Y2P runs much cooler and the non-metallic surface around the keyboard does not dissipate heat from the computer. I only wished the "F" keys on the top row were more useful in the real world. Airplane mode? Refresh? The best one is the "screen-off" key (F9). You can do the exact same thing by toggling the screen brightness key down to the lowest setting.ferrydust likes this.
-
What's the specs of your Y2P?
-
Good point about it running cool - indeed a major improvement.

Silver color with i7, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD

You are only getting 4 hrs of battery life? What are your power settings set to? Screen brightness, etc.?
-
I only get about 3 hours on one charge but I have it optimized for best performance. Under heavy work loads (i.e. major multi-tasking) I've managed to completely drain the battery in less than 2.5 hours. I'm sure I could get 6+ hours if I only had one window open reading text with a dim screen and with all the power settings set to conserve power but I didn't buy a powerful laptop to work on it crippled mode. I'm plugged in most of the time and I don't go too long with it not plugged in so not a major problem for me. I was hoping to get at least 4 hours under heavy use but it is what it is. I'm sure the battery life on the Y2P has been disappointing to 90%+ owners.
-
Any chance anyone has a kill-a-watt you can use to measure power consumption of the different modes?
I've got a couple readings to get it started - these are idle readings, with no usb devices connected.
High Performance: 18-25 watts
Power Saver: 9-12 watts
I'd love to see if anyone can get down below the 9 watts - with a usable system -
Unboxed my yoga i7 today. Real happy. The screen is awesome.
I have been on windows now for I don't know how many years. Today was my first time with windows 8....what a bizarre experience...lol... who came up with this? I have never been so confused in my life. Well got the pcworld articile on how to get the desktop back and things started to come into focus. I am like that old dog that cant learn new tricks. I don't want to touch the screen...not for me.
I switched to my hp mini mouse which made a huge difference. So I have the desktop now without metro and installed windows live email because that outlook email web based sucks. I need to install Microsoft office but don't have time now. But have the email and web thing down so I am good.
Nice unit. I am pleased..... -
I really think you should give Windows 8.1 a chance. It is really stange at first but quite good when you understand it. There is a help app as a start.
I highly recommend you memorize most Windows key + xx shortcuts.
While not everything is perfect (multi screen is a disappointment, I think I liked the Windows 8 support better; still many parts of the system that should be rewritten, a few inconsistencies in the UI) it is in fac a great OS.
If you work with multiple devices you'll come to love how everything is kept in sync.
Also once you understand how the start menu works (type Windows key, then begin typing the name of the app you want such as exc for excel 2013), what the Windows key + xx shortcuts do you will see that it is indeed a great os for keyboard/mouse users too. Also remember Windows Key + x is your best friend and you really need a Microsoft account to use W8.1 to the max. The experience will be very inferior with local accounts.
I've been using Windows 8 since the start with great pleasure but still mostly using Desktop apps.
Since Windows 8.1 I'm using more and more "Modern Apps" ( IE Modern version, Music, Video, ...) and they work well and in fact better than their desktop counterparts - for example most modern apps are optimized for low power usage while the desktop apps weren't. That's why if you want maximum battery life you should use the video app instead of old Windows Media or similar.
While so far I perhaps used IE desktop 70% of the time, Firefox 20% and IE Modern 10%, I'm now mostly using IE Modern 70%, IE Desktop 20%, Firefox 10%. The fullscreen experience is great too.
Of course some apps really don't make sense as Modern Apps so far, and I highly recommend that you use the traditional file explorer in Windows to manage skydrive. The Modern Skydrive App may be better for touch users - not even sure - but it sure is 100% crap for keyboard+mouse users.
To summarize I think you will be frustrated with Windows 8.1 if you try to remodel it to 7 and use it like 7 with addons and whatsnot. Although a short time investment is needed, I'll bet you'll enjoy Windows 8.1 much better when you use it the 8.1 way.Jeff44, gilgamesh0 and Hunter99 like this. -
Thanks for the info...yeah I need to give it a try more. Maybe this old dog can learn....

I feel your pain. It's like having a Ferrari, but you can only drive it at 50MPH. I have seen other Haswell based Ultra Books that have been getting 7+ hours on video run down tests from professional reviewers. I wonder if Lenovo could improve the battery life with a firmware update?. I based my last purchase on the so called professional reviewers claims of battery life for my last ultrabook, which was supposed to last 6hrs playing videos, but it would not last even three hours, and that was with power saving mode and screen at 50%. I'm getting about 6hrs on power balance mode, screen at about 40% brightness and resolution set at 1920x1080 on my Y2pro. That is much better than my last ultrabook, but nothing amazing. I wish I could get 8hrs at least.
-
Plugged or unplugged has nothing to do with it, it will turn it off plugged in as well but surely don't try it if you are skeptical.
-
I did what you recommended and so far so good. Thanks! I think it's ridiculous how many not-very-obvious settings need to be changed on this laptop just to make it function properly.
-
I have had that same issue with other laptops which is how I knew what to do. I think it is the intel drivers and not the laptops themselves that have the issue.

I've been trying to get hold of one of these since I didn't finally get fed up with Apple and my iPhone and Retina Macbook Pro till a week or so ago, and by then the best buy deals were gone and no stock anywhere... Suddenly Saturday my local Best Buy had one on display. Just opened it up to put it out on their shelves as a demo. I asked if I could buy that, they said "No" since they can't sell demo units until it's an end of life product. Today I talked with the manager there and said that since that price point is gone and moving forward any new units they get from Lenovo for this config will be at the $1499 price point, for all intents and purposes it *IS* an end of life product. Odds are anything moving forward will have a new SKU and such. She didn't say no right away, but took their little tag and said, "Let me do some digging to make sure we won't get any more of these before I make a decision." She came back a few days later and said she found one at some store in the middle of nowhere, and she can have that shipped here for me to buy new...
Sure am glad I asked the question. I was exclusively Tablet PC's from the first version MS did back in 2004 or so, until I switched to Macs in 2009. I've got a Surface Pro, but first version, so was limited to 128GB drive and I couldn't use it as my daily use laptop for work and home. Selling my Mac, selling the Surface, buying the Yoga 2 Pro, and will net $1000 spare cash in the deal between the two people who are buying my current machines...
The only thing I'm really going to miss is the digitizer and pen. But in all honesty, since I got the Surface in Feb, the only times I've actually used it were when I would send "artwork" to a graphics friend of mine on Boston because I'm horrible at art, and it drove him to the point of wanting to scour his eyes with SOS pads whenever he saw something I drew... So I should be fine without the digitizer... Can't wait to get hold of this thing. I can deal with the yellow until a permanent (real) fix is done (as opposed to the workaround), and survive if it's not. Only thing I need to do now is find a workable dual band radio card to replace the 2.4ghz one that comes with it. -
SOmething similar happened to me. I got my i7/256gb/8gb for $995. When I called ahead and confirmed they had it by the time I got there the box was opened. An employee had opened it to "check out 8.1". It had only been opened for a few hours but they gave me the open box price which was $1044. Then they couldnt find the charger it (lol). So they gave me the lenovo 11s charger they had on a demo unit which doesnt have the same amps but it still charges jjust find and knocked off an additional $55 off. Best deal I have ever got an any electronic ever.
-
Careful with best buys "open box" discount, I got a Samsung ativ book 7 with an open box, normally $999, got it for $820. The box had no packaging, just a laptop and the charger. I inspected it in store and it appeared to be nearly perfect so I was excited to get it at such a discount, then after a few days I noticed it had a big scratch (in store I thought it was part of the aluminum finish) and the rubber screen bezel was torn. Again not a big deal and well worth the discount but it was clearly used and damaged, and they try to pass it off as just an "open box".
-
Kat, can't figure out how to PM you. Can you please PM me?
-
Mine is like this too.. I mean, only a little bit (enough to slide three pieces of paper under there), but it's starting to bug me, kind of like jiggling a loose tooth, I'm always tapping down on that front right corner to hear the tapping sound to remind me it's there.
Anyone else have this? (Basically if you have it on a flat surface, and tap the corner you can hear the tapping as it hits the surface -- whereas the other side yields just a solid thunk.) Just curious if many of them have this minor warping, or if Matt and I are outliers. -
Over on Lenovo forum about the color problems, reps at Lenovo are saying there is no color issue, or, it's the OS fault so you need to talk to MS or Ms will fix it, etc...LOL
Why am I NOT surprised............ I am so glad I returned mine and will sit back and wait and laugh at all the people who told me they said they would fix it, and called me out for questioning if they actually would or could. Have fun with your Yoga's with the horrible colors. Thanks to all the guys who are not just yoga fanboi's, rather regular people who expect basic simple color accuracy out of our expensive device, who have tried to hold Lenovo's feet to the fire for a fix. I hope this doesn't end up being Lenovo's stance on the color issue that it is a MS issue, but that is what the reps are telling people now. Doesn't look good. Glad mine is open box at a BB near you LOL.... -
Hey Ozmate, earlier I was trying to figure how to PM so I could send you one but I couldn't! So then I just responded through the forum hoping you knew how lol. I even looked in the forum FAQ, it says there is an option in the Private Message section in settings but it won't even let me access that section so maybe we don't have enough posts to use that function yet? It also said there should be a drop down menu in members posts that says Send Private Message but I don't see that either!
Edit: Hey Ozmate, I changed my settings to allow members to email me so you can try to send me an email if you want. -
Yes, I do. Front left corner on this one. It's funny, ten days ago I scurried smirkingly away from Best Buy with this machine and hightailed it out of there, convinced it was just a matter of time before they figured out their mistake and came storming out en masse, demanding either their ultrabook or another $400.
Alas, it is flawed. Baseless anxiety, it was. The warping problem is minor (also about three pieces of paper worth) and annoys me a bit. Doubt that I'll address it. I use this in lounge-around mode quite a lot, so it's only occasionally used on a flat surface, anyway. -
so i have just placed an order for the i7/8GB/256GB from Amazon. ships to australia next week. lets hope that the colour issues are not as bad as people say they are.
will be on this thread for some more info on this. -
Nope, mine is perfectly flat, except for the damn tiny imperfection on the case!
-
anyone received their orange ?
-
I ordered mine on 10/18 and it is not supposed to ship out until 11/14.
-
Not to mention that it's way more expensive and with only 128GB of space, which there's not much left and 4GB of ram.
-
This happens on a lot of laptops it seems. It happens on mine because I habitually pick it up at its front corner. I just bend mine back, or remember to pick it up with both hands.
-
Thanks. Will keep watching if they get it back in stock again

Mark's latest update to the Lenovo Forum:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-W...o-13-Yellow-Color-Issues/td-p/1270427/page/45ferrydust likes this. -
Sounds like it's not a major fix, but at least you won't have to re-do the power setting every time your Y2P goes to sleep. Hopefully it's more than that, but if that's all they are doing it will help a lot.ferrydust likes this.
-
I'm very conflicted about Mark's response. My silver i7/8mb/256gb is being delivered to my house tomorrow and I'm considering just returning it back unopened to my local Best Buy. If I do, I'll wait for the Thinkpad Yoga.
-
Mark thinks an update will be available in about a week, so you might want to open it and try it out. Doesn't Best Buy have a 15 day return window?
-
Is that 15 days from date of shipment or receipt of the device? I'm simply not sure.
I'm most concerned about the fix draining the battery run time...I suppose I could open it up and give it a whirl for a few days. I'm also starting not to see an advantage of the Yoga 2 Pro over the Thinkpad Yoga. I'm starting to think I'd run the Yoga 2 Pro at 1080p and in that case, I'd be better off getting the active digitizer and retractable keyboard of the Thinkpad Yoga. -
Nope, ordered on the 16th, ship date of November 14th
-
Can someone share their experience with three/four finger swipe on the trackpad for back/forward? For me, sometimes it works the first time. Other times, it may take two or even three tries. This is with the drivers that shipped with the laptop. Any thoughts?
-
The BB guy told me it was 15 days from the day you pick it up. I'm considering the Thinkpad yoga as well - I like digitizers for onenote, but I don't care very much about the retractable keyboard. It seems like it could be susceptible to more mechanical failure and it adds weight and thickness. I went to BB and handled the Yoga Pro 2 and it's very thin and light, so I'm going to try that out for a while.
If the thinkpad is very thin and light I'll definitely consider it. -
I have had bad experiences with the stock drivers. I tried the Synaptics drivers from their website and they work great, except the touchpad doesn't disable with the F6 function key or when in tablet mode, which can also be frustrating. So I am back on the original drivers trying to get used to the weird responses. I know it can be fixed with a driver update, just hope it happens sooner rather than later. When using the two finger scrolling the mouse jumps around all over the place, and the scrolling doesn't work very well. With the Synaptics driver there are not any issues except the tablet mode not shutting off the touchpad. May end up reverting back to those drivers.
Edit - The thre finger back and forward works great with the Synaptics driver from their website. -
I find the further I spread out my fingers the better it works. Not ideal but it works
-
Digital Trends has a comparison against the Yoga 2 Pro; to accommodate the cool lift and lock keyboard, the Thinkpad Yoga is a bit thicker, and it is heavier than the Yoga 2 Pro.
Lenovo site on the Thinkpad Yoga saysLenovo site on the Yoga 2 Pro says -
What's the ship date on all of your orange i7/8g/256gb yoga pro 2's? Mine says 11/05. Wondering if it is earlier for anyone else?
-
11/14. Purchased on 10/18.
-
It doesn't matter as they will change, some maybe better and some maybe worse.
-
So I ended up receiving my order from lenovo on monday (missed the Friday delivery). Same yellow issue, but for some unknown frustrating reason the new computer refuses to get any decent wifi connection. The other laptop has worked flawlessly with wifi since day 1. The new one can barely load a page. The wifi bar (feet from my router) keeps fluctuating and it takes minutes to load a page. Updating drivers and all the usual fixes have done nothing. Anyone have this issue or did I just get shipped a dud?
