I will second your review. Every machine has its quirks, and there is no perfect piece of hardware. The fans do cycle, but frankly I expect fan noise with an i7 processor in such a small case. My F1 and F2 keys are not perfectly level, but the tab key on my old HP Tm2 was much worse. Speaking of keyboards, the keyboard on my Yoga is a vast improvement over my Tm2's keyboard, and I put up with that one for almost five years. No issues with Wifi, and most of the issues that I have had with other aspects of my Yoga have been related to Windows 8.1, not the hardware. I really like this machine, and expect to use it for the next 4 - 5 years. It has enough power for my development projects and to smoothly run Adobe CC and virtual machines, but is still extremely lightweight, thin, and just flat out cool looking. I am a happy consumer.

I'm sending it back to lenovo so they can look at it. I'm not savvy enough to dare mess with it. Thanks for the tips though. Lenovo said I should have it back within two weeks. I'll keep updating. So far they have been great to work with.

    Hello all -
Ordered my i7/8GB RAM/512GB on Nov. 13th. here's the BS Lenovo has been throwing at me....
    original delivery date: 12/26
    changed to 01/06
changed just today again to 01/16

Also, anyone have this occur during their process?? Placed order Nov. 13th, Lenovo placed the hold on my account for 72 hours, then released the charge...Now every week they said they will be going into my account to place the hold on my account and release the funds 4 days later... , why not just place the hold and either leave it or place the hold and release and charge my account when laptop ships which isn't until 8 weeks from date of my order. Stupid! sorry for the rant, just makes no sense and I have called Lenovo twice and spoke to customer service and credit card services.

Yeah, they put a hold on my funds too a couple of times, but they would drop off. I was lucky to have my shipment date go from 12/02 to 11/16. Good luck with your order.

I ordered on Thanksgiving day (orange, 8gb, 256gb). It was showing shipping date 8 January and receiving date 10th Jan. And from last two days it has been showing a ridiculous date Jan 2015

Edit: Talked to customer care they say the models with 8gb RAM are delayed because of the higher demand. Should I go with 4gb, it is expected to ship before Christmas or the other option is Bestbuy but no Clementine orange :(

I'm going to make you mad, but once they send me a replacement, that would be my third Yoga too! The first one was returned to BB due to an imperfection on the lid, the second one was ordered directly from Lenovo but it has developed a weird noise while charging, so I'm waiting for a replacement to send it back.

How have people been dealing with zoom on programs? For example Kakao looks really tiny in resolution compared to the other built in apps. Would downgrading to Windows 7 help? I just picked up the i7/8gb/256 gb one from bestbuy.

I feel Windows 7 on this machine would be a waste, you'd lose tablet mode (Windows 7 as touch only? yerk!) and then the touch screen would be useless, so why buy a Yoga 2 Pro?

If I were you, I'd simply switch to 1600x900 resolution when you want to use such program. That's what I do. But yeah, Windows software makers need to get their act together and update their apps to the new Windows high DPI API. I can't believe you still need to set internal flags in Chrome for it to support high DPI.

    Suggestion needed:
Is 8gb RAM and i7 (SSD upgrade does not really matter as I will be using mostly for remote desktop) upgrade worth paying extra $250 and and wait a tleast one month more than i5 4gb?
I ordered my i7 8gb but shipping date is postponed to 13 Jan while i5 version apparently will be shipped before Christmas.

Since the RAM is soldered and not upgradable, I'd say it is worth waiting for an 8GB model. There are many tasks that work better with more memory. For a long time I didn't think I needed 8GB but then one day I needed to use Google's Android Studio and running the emulator with only 4GB is extremely painful...I ran out of memory constantly. So even if today you don't have a task that needs lots of memory, you might in the future and with a 4GB Yoga2Pro you'd be stuck. On the other hand, the i5 --> i7 upgrade probably won't be noticeable for most tasks and isn't worthwhile IMO.

The replacement part for the screen is very expensive, is not readily available. Also, the capactive touch digitiser and LCD is bonded together.

Thanks but I didn't want to wait anymore so I cancelled i7 and ordered i5. I will get it today (due to snow-storm it got delayed otherwise I would have gotten it yesterday). I never do any memory extensive work so I think 4gb RAM should be fine. For everything else I have a desktop :)

I was in the same boat, wanting the 8gb for Hyper-V virtualization related stuff, but at $899 it was hard to refuse the system at that price rather than paying the extra $300 for the Core i7, 8gb and 256gb SSD.

I don't know about bestbuy , i wanted clementine so i ordered through Lenovo. You can get clementine in 950 instead of 999, just buy through student discount :) Also I ordered it on 7th and will receive today. Pretty fast huh..

Has anyone else who's replaced the wifi card with the 802.11AC card experienced an increase in the amount of times the fan kicks on now? I did the swap and now the wifi is great, but the fan noise is really irritating! I'm wonder if i need to line up the back cover better or something.

I was in NY on holiday a few days ago and purchased the i5 Yoga Pro 2 from Best Buy. Worked out at £600 when converted. The same laptop albeit with 8G bof RAM was £1000 here in the UK, maybe slightly cheaper now but a big saving still.

Anyway am enjoying it thus far and will do everything that I need from it.

Has anyone made a list of things that are not required to reduce RAM use or speed up the machine? For example disabling services? Just cos I like playing around with it rather than being slow. Have already done the updates for it.

Ordered my Yoga 2 Pro i7 8gb 512gb on Nov 7th here in Germany and it got got pushed back until Jan 2014. My dealer says its due to a recent fire they had in one of their factories in China. Did anyone hear about this?

    Orange + 8 GB RAM + 512 GB SSD

Ordered 11/30, shipped 12/17 (supposedly since there's no tracking information showing up)

I plan on re-installing 8.1 as soon as I get it just in case there's crap-ware on it.

Remember me? It finally shipped on 12/16. Arrived 12/18.... with a broken spacebar. Called Lenovo, they said return it and that I would have a replacement within 10 days. Sent it back today. Called tonight because I hadn't gotten any emails and the rep tells me the shipping date is 1/28/14, no manager to speak to, no flexibility. I cancelled the order.

As a side note, for the 4 hours I had the laptop with the broken spacebar, I will tell you I found the yellow color issue really disturbing despite running the most recent bios, most recent energy manager and using high performance settings. The a in "Ebay" was positively green.

I just got my yoga 2 pro, and I'm not sure if I like it. The keyboard is going to be very hard to get used to- and anyone who thought that placing "Home" immediately next to a shortened backspace key was a good idea needs to be fired. From a cannon. The keyboard doesn't disable unless the screen is fully rotated, so the stand-mode is effectively useless until that gets corrected.

The touchpad is awesome- but they butchered and maimed synaptics drivers and the regular drivers fail to install. Plus touchpads *need* hardware buttons, which is present on almost no laptop these days. I guess it's like the capacitive button trend- objectively worse but cheaper to manufacture so the customer just has to deal with it on so many devices (phones, tvs, kitchen electronics).

I'm having a hard time separating what is useless OEM spam and what is required software/drivers too- and this thing is filled to the brim with so much freaking OEM crap, not to mention 30GB of space is wasted on proprietary backup/recovery stuff that *windows 8 has built in*.

Finally, my screen has significant light bleed at the bottom, it flickers and adjusting brightness was buggy. I tried disabling all the Intel driver image stuff and the auto brightness setting, but I am still seeing it. I even booted into uefi recovery where no driver should be loaded that could screw with the screen... And I think the flickering is a defect in my backlight. The screen is the selling point of this device so I can't just ignore it. The reason I came to this thread is to ask if anyone has any other suggestions for me to try- and to ask if bringing it to a local lenovo certified retailer/repair center is worth doing, or if I should do an exchange over the mail with Lenovo directly.

Also if someone could help me get REAL synaptics drivers on this thing, that would be appreciated. I can't live without momentum, I don't want inverted scroll, I want the option to use chiral, etc.

    Thanks

I just saw a YouTube tear-down video on the Y2P which confirmed that the ram is soldered to the board so upgrading from 4 to 8 GB ram is near impossible. Since the price difference between the BestBuy i5 and i7 is only $200 and you get double the ram and double the ssd, I'm gonna wait for the i7 to be restocked. I want this machine but think I will regret going with 4 GB rather than 8 GB ram down the road.

Agreed. I was originally looking at the Samsung ATIV 9 Plus, but it's $600 more. The Samsung is a bit lighter and thinner, but I after trying out the "tablet" modes at Best Buy I think I'll go with the Yoga. Hopefully it won't be too long to restock.

It's funny, but my search has been similar. At first I wanted the new Asus Zenbook Infinity, but the scarcity and high, high price put me off. Next, I thought it was the Samsung ATIV 9 Plus, but after looking at both the Samsung and the Y2P at Bestbuy, I wasn't able to justify the price of the i7 Samsung. The Y2P looks like the dealio. Ready to pull the trigger when they finally restock the i7 8gb model.

Anyone having issues where Internet Explorer from the metro screen and other apps that require Internet from the metro screen doesn't work after waking up? The weird thing is that Internet Explorer and chrome work just fine from the original desktop.

Do you have a link to the teardown? I'm curious about the SSD... is there an empty mSata slot like on the original Yoga? If not, is the SSD mSata and is it soldered?

I think the Great 2013 8GB RAM Shortage may be coming to an end. The Lenovo site now lists an i7, 8GB, 512 SSD machine set to ship on January 21 for $1,599. I want the Bestbuy i7 8GB 256 SSD model which is $400 less than this model. But I'm glad to see some 8GB machines coming back in stock.

FYI, I drove to my local BestBuy store this afternoon and was able to order the Y2P i7 8 GB, 256 SSD. Model 59386391, sku 1817254. $1,199.00. In-store pickup is 1/10/14.

If it happens, I'm gonna be a happy camper.

In Maryland. You are correct that the BestBuy site has continued to say "unavailable", but the sales guy at the store was able to order the unit through his computer in the store. I put it on my BestBuy card and got a regular receipt for the purchase. Delivery should be the Friday, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm still hopeful though, since the Lenovo site does show the i7 8GB unit as available, which it was not before.

I've been using my Y2P for like a week now, two things that disappoint me so far:
    - its touch pad and keyboard get this "worn out look" pretty easily. I'm not sure if it has something to do with my typing style or if my skin is too oily for some reason. I'm wondering if applying a palm-rest and keyboard protector is would be a good idea.
    - I get to see a notification saying that an audio jack has been plugged/unplugged while there isn't. It's pretty strange, I assume it's a driver problem or worse is it's a hardware failure.

I have the same issue with the touchpad, and I actually have dry skin, definitely not oily.

I only get that message pop up when I connect some headphones into the jack and remove it, not on the speakers. Maybe faulty or a reinstall of the drivers?

I got an update from Bestbuy/UPS on my Y2P i7 8GB. Delivery to the store was supposed to be today, but because I bought it in the store, the online store doesn't show it. I called the store and the sales guy gave me the UPS tracking number, so it looks like this unit is really on its way. UPS delivery expected by end of day on Monday 01/13/2014. Shipping progress is as follows:

    Location Date Local Time Activity
Hodgkins, IL, United States 01/09/2014 8:33 P.M. Departure Scan
    01/09/2014 4:58 P.M. Arrival Scan
Sylmar, CA, United States 01/07/2014 3:42 A.M. Departure Scan
    01/07/2014 1:03 A.M. Arrival Scan

The Vaio Pro 13 has a battery capacity of 37 Wh and the Yoga 2 Pro has a battery capacity of 54 Wh.It is incredible that Sony can get that kind of battery life from such a small battery. (mAh specs don't directly give battery capacity because you need to know what voltage is used to make direct comparisons between two batteries.)

Where can I get the Engadget video playback loop? It looks like a great tool for measuring battery life.

    Thanks, Jim

I think it's what they use on their review's rather than an actual tool for the public.

Also I read that it was quite a flawed test as they only use the on-screen settings to get it down to 50%, rather than a scientific approach of testing the actual brightness of the screen and comparing it like for like with other laptops. I.e. 50% brightness of one laptop would possibly be different to another laptop.
