    Looks nice, although it looks kind of dark because of the camera. I like the resolution, though. It really makes the text clear.

    I thought you were using cleartype but just wanted to make sure, because if that was without cleartype, I would have gone through the roof! :D

    irfan, that second picture showing the msn homepage exhibits the same severe uneven lighting from top to bottom issue that I see on my panel. Is that image showing the true gradiation that you perceive when looking at the screen?

    actually there is some uneven lightning. But it is not as severe as it seems on the pictures. Some of the graduation is a result of the viewing angle. The viewing angles on the hydis display are kinda narrow. I have checked the issue by simply viewing the screen from the bottom. And the bottom is equally bright as the top. But usually my eye is levelled to the top of the screen, naturally. So I experience some unevenness with respect to top and bottom of the display.

    Seems one-by-one I have resolved all my problems with my T60. First the grainy screen issue, which was solved by downgrading the BIOS. And now, it seems I have solved the issue with the bluetooth adapter and the logitech v270 bluetooth mouse. There is a new firmware update for the bluetooth card on the T60. After updating the firmware, I realized significant send/receive stability. Connection between the mouse and the bluetooth card seems to be stable now. Finally, I can enjoy T60.

    I had the chance to run some benchmarks this week. Since pcmark and 3dmark results for several T60's showed up on the review, I will only post the results from different benchmark suites.

    SuperPi 2M calculation -> 1m 11 secs
    Cinebench 9.5 1 CPU -> 298
    Cinebench 9.5 2 CPU -> 552
    Sciencemark 2 Molecular Dynamics -> 73 secs (Smilar test on Pentium-940 ended in more than 80 secs)

    Everest 2006 CPU-Queen -> 3159
    Everest 2006 CPU Photoworxx -> 16014
    Everest 2006 CPU ZLib -> 23859 KB/s

    Maximum CPU temperature -> 60 Degrees
    Maximum HD temperatur -> 37 Degrees

    After a long time, finally, I changed my 5400 RPM toshiba drive with a 7200 RPM Hitachi one. It seems that while the speed is great, there is a drawback of heat. Also, I would suggest Acronis trueimage software to everyone who wishes to install a new HD. It worked great for me. Before the installation of the new HD, I created HD image on to some DVD disks. It took around 1 hour to recover the system to its original state.

    I have compared the T60 sxga+ 14.1" screen with the T60 15" IPS screen side-by-side, and the 14" screen does NOT render the colors anywhere close to accurate, which is important to anyone who does digital photography.

    Though I like my 14.1" SXGA+ screen, I must say that I would much prefer the 15" IPS screen. The reasons are the following: the colors look dull on my 14.1" screen and the brightness is low.

    What is the maximum HD temperature you got on 7200 RPM hitachi drive and the 5400 RPM drive? I am considering of buying hitachi drive to replace my 5400 rpm drive.

    I like the T60 keyboard too. A caution for anyone thinking of getting an external (desktop) keyboard to match. I specifically asked if their desktop keyboards (a) were of the same quality and (b) had the same key layout. I was reassured ths was true. neither statement is true. The desktop keyboards are plastic crap, with a completely different layout. (Fn key does not even exist, for example.)

    Errrr...this may be a dumb question but I always thought the Fn key was to click Fn + 1 = F1, but then I saw a picture of a T60 and it has Fn key and F keys. So what exactly DOES the Fn key do?

    The FN key combinations are to enable/disable various hardware items. Such as FN + Home turns up the brightness and FN + End turns down the brightness. FN + F4 puts it to sleep, etc. The keys are labeld (light blue graphics) to indicate the dual function when you depress the FN key and press them.

    I just received my T60, and my first impressions are making me feel really happy that I ended up getting this machine. It just feels really sturdy and the 15" flexview is amazing. (My old dell feels just cheap in comparison, although I did spent almost as much on it as on the T60). Thanks guys for all the helpful posts!

    Being that we have had such great pics of the 14" screen, how about a few of the 15" flexview. All this talk about the better upgraded screen is making me consider the larger laptop.

    Thanks for the links to those great reviews. Much better than the other ones I've seen. I like the comparison of the 15" flexview to the 14" standard. The standard screen looks horrible off-angle. I have an older Mac PowerBook that looks great off-angle, I would have been shocked if I ordered the 14" lenovo screen.

    I'm glad I read the Laptop Logic review, because I completely missed the fact that the T series does not have Firewire. That is a serious negative for me, I want to transfer High Def video to the laptop via Firewire.

    HI - I am thinking or ordering a 14" T60 - and I wanted to know how I could ensure that i get specific parts for my computer? Also, is it possible for them to put in a flexview screen for the 14.1"?

    THere is no IPS/Flexview 14.1 inch screen currently out...I did read on www.thinkpads.com that perhaps we can expect to see 14.1 and 12.1 flexview screens this winter.

    I had the chance to compare two T60s with different components. While it is a fact that they (screen,keyboard etc) feel different, it is not possible to tell which parts one will like. If you havent used a thinkpad before, like me, you probably will be fine with whatever you get.

    Well, I was going either for the MBP or T60. Apple took too long to bring the new core 2 duos out, so i went with the t60.

    Apart from a bad screen to body fit in closed state, it was a well calculated choice. The NMB keyboard is great :)

    I would be unpleased about the fit of that T60. The X60 seems to be the king of quality in the thinkpad line, based on broad emperical evidence.

    As for the macbook pro, unfortunately way too many people reported major heat issues with it.

    It amazes me the difference in fit and finish people report. My T60 is rock solid, everything fits tight. I am a picky person too and I find it very acceptable. Maybe yours was assembled on a Monday or Friday when the workers were either hung over or anxious to get out! :)

    I second that, I can count on one hand as to the number of negative opinions on the build qualities of the T series, can't say the same for the X series, not to mention the fact that the T series is the flagship of the thinkpad line.

    I bet you will get an argument from SkiBunny...she LOVES her X60's! :D I have never seen any other models but my T60; which I believe to be a true problem with ThinkPad sales. Most people want to see and feel a laptop before they shell out $2000, and I can't blame them...but it is next to impossible to see one around here; none at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc. I think if more people could see them side-by-side with other brands, Lenovo would sell more of them.

    lol I wouldn't make that bet with you as I know you're right. As far as Lenovo displaying more of them at retail locations, I personally don't think that would matter too much, just look at Dell, you don't see too many of them, just online and limited number of kiosks at local malls, but they still sell boat loads of them. I actually saw a T60 at a compusa store, but that was after I purchased mine. I like the T series' balance of power and portability. I only lug mine once a week, but for someone who lugs theirs on a daily basis, I can see the benefit of the X series. It all comes down to what you use yours for.

    Dell is just so well known and many students and adults have them...it just seems that ThinkPads are well-known in the business field, but for the student and home user, that wants a top-of-the line, ThinkPad, just doesn't come to mind. Maybe they will start to advertise more now that they have the Z61's and 3000 series.
    I was originally looking for a smaller 12-13" screen and I came close to buying the X60, but I wanted the ThinkNav option and not be restricted to the TrackPoint...but now that I have my T60, I use the TrackPoint almost exclusively! I never would have thought that...but the 14" is fine...I use a "briefcase-style" carrying bag anyway, as I always need a book or two.

    no i'd agree that the T-series is the flagship of the line.
    The small screen of the x-series is annoying.
    But the x-series wins the awards and is much more of an engineering marvel.
    All that said, unless i need ultraportability, my next laptop will likely be an T61 because of the screen size.
