Federal Law protects consumers for "Warranty Protection"...

This is not something that a Company would try...Very, very serious business to void a warranty, not near as easy as some of you propose...

I find it extremely hard to believe that IBM/Lenovo would "Legally"
Void someones warrantty ounce the Product is payed for and shipped...
    ;)

It's not easy Ms. Bunny...

What happens if there is a problem right out of box (ex. DOA or an error in configuration)? Would it count as warranty usage if we want an exchange? In other words, could they say, "This was purchased with a fraudulent EPP discount, so you're stuck with the messed up Thinkpad."

As for the legalities, if would be worthwhile to at least threaten them with legal ramifications if we're talking more than $1000. Their website never clearly offers EPP terms and conditions; IBM does, but that's the IBM website and not Lenovo's. Lenovo buyers never are presented with EPP terms and conditions.

EPP is just a last name, and a serial number. I doubt they even trace that kind of thing.

It's there. Go all the way to the point of entering a credit card # and checking the box for terms and conditions. Only, you don't have to enter a CC#. It's at the bottom of that page.

I still haven't got an e-mail with my quote and I did it last night???

Alright, I did the quote, that will give me nice assurance at least until they get the backorder thing taken care of.

I tried to go to the EPP site to log in there, but now whenever I go there, it takes me to the students and alumni T61 page. geez...

I found that after you start logging in under different ways (i.e. Stundent discount, EPP, Shareholder and so on) a cookie gets set on your computer. You have to go into your browser and delete your cookies to get back in.

Also, did you get an e-mail with your quote? I didn't??? How do you veiw your quote and check out with it???

All of this EPP business seems pretty slick. Is it really worth doing all of this when your warranty is in question?

I've been debating the T61 and the D630 and I think I'll go with the Dell.

At this point, I think it is not worth it, but thats just me. I am still trying to figure out what is going on. I will probably call soon to check up on my shipping date and such and maybe cancel the order, and then wait till the super sale in July (I am trusting you SkiBunny!!). I noticed the cookie, and worked that out, now I can't remember Meyers Serial number, lol

No, it's not worth it for extra 10%. Just use Visa cardholder deal, it will get you same 5% as shareholder deal.

I guess it depends on who you ask. The laptop I configured is about $150 less with EPP than any other deal I can come up with. "I'm not a bettin' man", but I would bet that the warranty will be honored. If it's not honored, I'm still "not a bettin' man", but I'd bet I have <5% chance that anything will go wrong with the laptop within the first year anyway. I think the odds are fairly good.

Anyway, worst case scenario, I'd have to fix it myself or take it to a local computer shop to have it repaired.

EPP saved me roughly $233.00, or about 13% extra. It was worth it in my book to go for it. I even upgraded my warranty to next day with accidental protection for only $96.00 as I figured it was a good deal. The $96 put me over the top for the extra 10% off with Tailormade as well. Also, if Lenovo DOES ship my computer and for any reason DOES void my warranty, they do say they refund the money for it. This all should be interesting in the next 0 days as laptops are supposedly starting to ship around then.

We're sometimes told that a system order has been placed and asked to confirm it.

Also, ibm has an intranet site that shows the employee number and how much has been ordered for it each year. I can see it for every employee number, not just mine.

I have not seen any evidence/proof/documentation anywhere regarding any Lenovo Policy on anything...WTF...

Besides the usual disclaimers stating they can/would reserve all rights type of standard stuff....

I believe by discussing this, so much, People have made ignorant/erroneous statements of things "They Wish/fantasize about, etc...Not one Link or official policy...

I just spoke with Lenovo sales and believe me they could NOT give a F*$% about any of this c^%$...
He did say, eep, student, alumni, etc is ALL THE SAME, but the pricing...

This Deal is Blown to Historic, ridiculous proportion...lol heheheh

Interesting... Mine is still active and "In Process" for a 6/11 ship date. I actually used a Customer Sales Rep ID in the field that was on the order page because I had called someone before my order and asked him a few questions about the system itself. He said to put his ID in the form so he gets credit for the sale and then I'd also have a direct contact for any questions about my order.

Do you think that will help my cause at all? I wonder when mine will get flagged :(

Bayonets were used by the Japanese during WW II. Most Chinese today frown upon the use of bayonets.

The Chinese traditionally wield broad swords. If Lenovo reps ever come after you, they will surely cut you down with their broad swords...

Is this issue specific to EPP, or are the Shareholder Purchase Plan orders getting reviewed/cancelled as well? I ordered my T60P on 4/30 using the SPP which, I believe, at the time offered the same discount as the EPP.

I noticed that the EPP page requires you to enter the serial # and last name of the employee.

The SPP page only requires you to enter a code. Has anyone that used the SPP had any problems (yet)?

Well, I've used the SPP in the past, and I plan to use it for my next purchase, I got the SPP code legitimately and its the exact same code thats floating around the web. Also, the SPP is only 5% and the EPP is 15%.

I really don't think Lenovo cares whether you are actually a stockholder or not when you use the SPP

My bad guys, I had no idea Lenovo shadowed this website and made their corporate decisions based solely on conjecture from these forums. Forget that there was discussion about Meyer on other prominent sites like slickdeals or fatwallet....yeah, stupid me.

By the way, my order is still sticking around.

So did Andrew actually get his order canceled?

I was finally able to get to my order, and it is apparently still alive and kicking, with a new estimated shipping date of 6/11/07... I really don't know what I should do. I bought the four year protection because I am going off to college and am going to need peace of mind for a while. I think I should probably cancel... just in case. I don't want to get my warranty voided. Any advice?

I placed an order for an X60s using 25% + EPP + FW cashback.

I received an email this morning cancelling my order.
Now, I had the laptop being shipped to a different address than my billing address. When I placed the order at ~2AM, my shipping address profile had not been added to the credit card. The next morning I phoned my credit card and added the address. The charge went through on my card and is still on it. The email I got from Lenovo stated that my order was cancelled due to a problem with my credit card. But if that were true, I think they are supposed to contact me and make other arrangements.

Anyway, I didn't care that the order was cancelled because I wanted to re-order now that the X61s is released today. So I just tried the same process. However, now when I try to hit the "order" button, I get an error code saying "An error has happened in processing your order. Please try again later."

I wonder if this is just a website problem (they seem to be having issues today with slow/non-responding site) or if in fact they have flagged my credit card/account or something.

When I ordered mine, there was a special promotion going on for the SPP. I remember it said on the SPP page that for a limited time, Lenovo was offering employee pricing to IBM Shareholders. I believe it was 25% off, plus 50% on upgrades. I believe that promotion ended April 30. I do know that when I go on the current SPP page and configure a T60P exactly the same, it's about $260 more than my price.

I don't know if Lenovo runs these SPP special promotions on a regular basis, but it's worth watching. If, as you say, the passcode is the same for all shareholders, it would be extremely difficult for them to determine who is and isn't actually a shareholder.

Why worry so much about cancelling the purchase yourself? If Lenovo has a problem, let them deal with it, what's the rush? Chances are, you might even get lucky and snag the laptop. After all, their phones are ringing off the hook, so who has time to hunt you down?

Right, i think that would be my only concern if i still had a MEyer EPP deal pending. They might not get to you now, but what if they pull your warranty after you get the laptop? That would suck, esp for the people that paid for extended warranties. The warranty would remain an unknown.

By virtue of charging your CC and Shipping your order, Lenovo is involved LEGALLY in A CONTRACT to Provide Goods and services...
