several things to mention
1. We're left to get info on our delayed orders from either some shady blog (lenovoblogs.com) or by speaking to an uninformed CSR who promises "it'll ship by XXXX by the latest" only for your est. ship date to suddenly change to mid August! (the alternative is to receive an email stating "your order has been delayed by 1-30 days" gee Lenovo, thanks for the estimate)
2. even when reading the shady blog, Tim Supples mentions several reasons for the delays including:
a) orders placed between 9th-25th May got screwed up
b) orders of an nVidia card with WinXP have issues
c) shortages of orders for 15.4" T61
d) certain people had credit card holds
Funny thing is, My T61 order falls into NONE of those categories.
Reading through both the forums and that blog, there are numerous others ordering either the T60 or X60/61 that have had equally horrible delays.
It doesn't sound like this is a coincidence. It sounds like Lenovo is just incompetent.
I can understand that a company can make a mistake (although Lenovo seems to have a history with order problems) but how dare they not take responsibility. Do they think their laptops are so good that we'll put up with being treated like idiots just to get our hands on one?
Not only this, but on Lenovo.com the T61 STILL shows up as "'shipping in 1-2 weeks."
They also tell us not to cancel and reorder, as that won't get us a T61 sooner.
I know lots of people who've recently ordered a T61 who've already received them (including a family member).
It sounds like they don't want us to cancel because it would be a pain for them. Tim Supples claims that this is a minority, but I'm not so sure.
To finish, I'd like to quote Tim Supples again
Many people have asked on the blog "How exactly are you going to make this right?" but there's been no answer.
Did Tim mean he was going to give discounts, free upgrades, free warranty, or a future coupon? Or was his "make this right" simply referring to eventually shipping the T61.
I've got a feeling it's the latter.
I genuinely think Lenovo considers this big mess to be a minor inconvenience, instead of a complete disaster.
Again, most of this mess could be understood with good communication (a shady blog that 99% of customers don't know exists doesn't count).
Admitting fault and informing CSRs (and us in an email) of the the problem so they can properly inform callers, would have made this mistake easier to overlook.
p.s. the laptop in my sig is the one I ordered 28th of May, and as of right now, it is scheduled to ship the 30th of August

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
sorry to hear about troubles.
just cancel your order and buy from another vendor. no better way to stick it to 'em. -
Only reason why I haven't canceled yet is because w/ the EPP discount, the price is too good...but seeing everyone elses orders get delayed makes me lose faith it will ship anytime soon.
It is pretty sad that the only means of getting information on the delays is via an employee blog. -
This is so true. I know it won't solve the problem, but it would have resolved additional frustration if they just sent out an e-mail or notice on their website with a brief explanation and apology for delays on orders and customer support.
They are hurting themselves more by not addressing this issue which is apparent to everyone.
Edit: Yeah, my reason for not cancelling this order is the price as well. My wife would not have let me buy what I bought at $2100. -
I agree with what you're saying, but seeing as you ordered it on May 28th you shouldn't really be complaining much. It's been just barely over 2 weeks since you've ordered. It's still possible that you'll get your computer within 1 month which isn't too bad
-
i ordered around the middle of may and my ship date is towards the end of june.

They have always had shipping delays with every single model they have ever sold. I can think back to T43, Z60m (5 months), and T60 versions that had the same type of problems, these days I jsut try and plan ahead and figure in an extra month for delays. I just hope ours which is estimated for 6/28 comes before August.
Oh, and just got off the phone with my sales rep. He told me that the delay was caused from a delayed shipment of LCD panels. -
Hi,
I'm new to this forum but have been reading the reviews and forum ever since the T42 days.
I think the delivery problems are due to the backorder here in Asia too... Its quite sad to see so many of you guys waiting for your laptops... :-( Hope Lenovo gets their job done asap. Just to inform you, I actually bought the T61 about a week ago and recieved it on the day itself, which was pretty good. I think they have the stock here in Singapore but they are really having a hard time churning out the machines to supply the demand.
I remember that Lenovo did mention (Actually it was in one of the 'T61 First Look' reviews here) that the machines would make it to here in Asia first, if my memory serves me correctly. -
I'm curious, for those who are upset at the lack of professionalism and business ethics Lenovo is displaying with their shipping problems, how many have ordered the product using someone elses employment information?
-
I too have had a hell of a go with this. I ordered a Lenovo for both myself and my dad because they were so highly reviewed and my fiance and best friend have had such good luck with them. I love that their "Chat with a Live Rep" fucntion doesn't actually work on the site. And how about that when you call in you get put on hold for 30 minutes a time (which if you're on a cell phone is wonderful because they are only open during the weekdays), then connected to some person who barely speaks english. When asked to be transferred to someone else nicely because you can't understand a word they are saying, they get mad at you. Then when you do get to someone again who has better english, since we are dialing the english help line, they are complete jerks to you. I'm pretty much fed up with the lack of response. I've been emailing everyday multiple times to try to get SOMEONE to respond. Why should we spend this much money on a product to be blown off and never receive this supposed quality product? I'm bout ready to call the Better Business Bureau to see what can be done from that side of things. I just can't believe this mess. The thing is, if something did happen to all the May orders and you're that big of a business, you correct it. You don't ignore it. You fess up and try to fix it. I'm just so mad I can't even stand it. What can we do? I post this question to you.
-
That said, I'm glad I didn't end up ordering a Thinkpad
Although, my own shipping date for my MBP will also take 2 months...but the customer service Apple provided was completely on a different level.
1. They spoke English
2. When a mistake was made, they took full responsibility, paid for all shipping charges both ways, and updated everything so that I'd still be able to take advantage of the promotions they had on my initial purchase.
3. The sales rep actually went to work early in the morning to take care of my RMA (well, so she said, but I've no reason to doubt it).
No clue why I just wrote all that praising another company. Oh well. -
By the way-
I had ordered the T60p (not the T61 like most of you). I ordered in mid may and my ship date is late JULY. So mad.... -
I wanted to get a Apple. But way too expensive for me at this time. That's another reason I like the Lenovo, because they were a little cheaper. And with having to basically get a new laptop every 2 years these days, I figured I'd go with the least costly now with some quality. Then in a few years when I can save up enough go with the Apple. I had Dell and Gateway before which were both **** **** ****. Are there ANY computer brands out there worth it these days? Nothing but hassel.
-
Besides, maybe Lenovo will get their stuff straightened out and they'll ship sooner. Usually retailers list the latest possible delivery estimate just in case right? -
Yeah maybe. But my original ship date was June 14th. I was okay with that because that was just a little over 3 weeks post order date. Then they updated my webpage to reflect the better price (hundred dollar difference in my favor) and then it bumped my ship date to end of july! The sales rep said that it wasn't true and he fully expected it to ship by yesterday. Which of course it didn't and now he is miraculously unreachable! Oh, I've just had such bad luck with computers and service....I give up. I'm going to go play in traffic now.

Also, check out the small independent retailers here who sell Asus and Compal machines. You get to talk with the people running the show directly, and the service is outstanding. They'll go to great lengths to satisfy you as a customer, answer any questions, and meet any special needs or customizations you have and overall just provide a much more enjoyable buying experience. Once they have the item in stock, turnaround is extremely quick as well.
Compal and Asus don't have any spectacular SR/DX10 models in 14" in the U.S. right now, but a number of 15.4" models have already come out or are due to come out shortly. I would definitely check out the Compal IFL90 and the various Asus models if you're flexible. Also, since you didn't mind a pre-SR model apparently, Asus retailers have a ton of really nice 15.4" pre-SR models already in stock, including the W3J (14"), the V1Jp (15.4"), etc.
Check them out!
At the risk of promoting certain retailers and forgetting others, I'll give a quick list of some of those I've seen posting in these forums>
Xoticpc.com
BTOTECH
GenTechPC
MilestonePC
Powernotebooks.com
and so many more (check out the ASUS sticky for a list) -
This negative pub isn't helping them, that's for sure. I am all ready to go, but the more I hear about the delays, the more hesitant I am.
And unlike some of you, wjo are debating whehter to go w/the competition instead, my Plan-B has already been purchased. I'm sitting here looking at the sealed box with T-minus 6 days to decide if I want to return it for another thinkpad, and wait who knows how long (itching to open it).
I think ultimately, the bottom line is what's a few weeks when it comes down to getting what you want vs buying from the competition just to have it now. In which case you can always go to cost central and try to find one close to your configuration. For a few more bucks, but no tax. I jsut don't want a few weeks to turn into a FEW MONTHS. -

Hrm, well if the T61 is the dream machine for you, it's definitely worth waiting for IMO. August 31 sucks, but for most people, that's still just before school starts, so it's still not a catastrophe.
It would seriously suck to have to pass up on your dream machine merely because it wouldn't be shipped in time however. -
-
I agree that it would be sad to get a dell/hp just because we can't wait a few more weeks.
like i said in my original post though, i wouldn't mind if it was going to ship in July if they'd just get the est. shipping date right and stick to it!
if they could guarantee July, I'd probably be ok.
every day the CSRs' guarantee falls through. -
I mean, all the people that are complaining right now on this board, obviously you already have a computer to work with. It's not like the T61 is going to be your only computer. Spending 3 more weeks with your old computer is hardly going to ruin the rest of your life.
Besides, you all know you got a GREAT deal with these recent Lenovo sales. If you don't think you can live with yourself by waiting 3 more weeks, you can always cancel your oder. -
How about you just give us the paycheck Lenovo is sending you instead?
-
Actually, the reason WHY I had to buy another computer is because my dies every day. I can be sitting here typing on it and it will freeze up and it will take an average of 7 reboots before it will fully reboot to my desktop. So that is why I am personally so impatient. If it were just to casually replace another computer than I would have no problem about time. But my frustration with my rapidly dying computer when it is barely 2 years old itself is what causes me to be so frustrated about the time thing. That and piss-poor customer service just grinds me every time coming from a background in retail.
-
And if I may add, how about you give us the paycheck Asus and Dell are sending you instead? -
-
Lol! Easy kids. Apparently if you email Lenovo enough times they will eventually call you. I just got a call from the one and only rep that at one point a few weeks ago was really good to me. He said that both my comps will ship tomorrow! So here's how each of you approach it.
On my email that I received after I ordered online, they have a contact email for a "sales rep". Just start emailing that person over and over till you get a response. My guy actually responded and even called me just now. Hope this helps and if I find out they didn't ship tomorrow, I'll be back here griping up a storm on Thursday.
Good luck to you all. -
Some of us are on desktops and need a laptop for some reason by a deadline.
Some of us have computers that are about to fail ANY minute now...(you know, my GPU is buzzing like a swarm of giant flies right now, and I can literally use it for a personal heater).
What does getting a good deal have to do with competency? Sure, the sales probably made more people buy Thinkpads than normal, and that probably helped contribute to many of the shipping problems we're seeing here, but that's not really the point here. If they said...we'll give you this discount, but in exchange, you won't get priority shipping and build status, that'd be different. -
-
That your comment is ridiculous that we should just suck it up and wait because Lenovo is offering such a great deal.

-
It hurts me when you guys fight like this:cry:
-
Maybe you should check back on what it is exactly you think I've posted because I never stated anything about buying a Dell or Asus.
-
I have a laptop. But it is too old and gets a lot problem. So I really need one for my business trip. I ordered it one month ago. (5/9) but I think is is never long enough. I will think about half a year ago from Lenovo next time if all other companies do not provide laptops anymore.
I just get a feeling that customers should fight back.
Lenovo is so arrogant and just said, you guys wait and see what we are going to do right. No public announcement in their offical website. No e-mail, nothing else. They try to hide that to other customers, does't they? -
-
-
I don't need to think twice about your shameless support of the company on the grounds that they're offering us such a great deal, and I'll stand by my original comment in asking you how much they're paying you to troll this board. -
At exactly 1:05PM central time, why don't you both apologize to each other at the same time. We'll all feel better and we'll sleep better tonight and we'll all be pals again. What do you say?
-
And I stand by my secondary comment (after yours) in asking you how much you are getting paid by Lenovo's competitors (namely Asus and Dell) to ferment discontent towards Lenovo on this board. -
-
I shall refrain from making any more personal comments from this point onward.
Thanks Stallen. -
Now your turn crxtreme

who else think it's disgraceful the way Lenovo is treating recent customers?
