Can not locate bluetooth in Control Panel or in Device Manager on my X120e 05962RU.
Received the unit today and trying to pair my bluetooth mouse. Problem is I can't locate bluetooth and I'm concerned the bluetooth hardware may be missing from my X120e.
It's a 05962RU model and both Lenovo specs. on support page and the seller Abe's of Maine specify that Bluetooth 3.0 is included on this model.
Where in device manager should the bluetooth be listed?

Thank you with much appreciation to Keytone. Searched for a solution from within the site and did not find anything, from google search I found the bluetooth thread and was able to fix my problem.
    So simple.

Would you fellas recommend this over a netbook? I'm torn between getting a netbook or one of these. It won't be my primary machine. Already have a speedy one for that :D

    Maybe....

What are you going to do with it? It's a much better computer than the average netbook but the battery life isn't as good as the best netbooks and netbooks can be had MUCH cheaper.

I've posted this in a few other threads but, Target is having a sale tomorrow on the Acer 722 for $200 (well $250+ $50 Target card).
TARGET Starts 7/17 Acer 11.6" 250GB HDMI AMD NOTEBOOK $199 ($249 w/$50 Target GC Back!) - Slickdeals.net (no I don't make money on it). The Acer is about half the cost. For that half you get a slower computer with the C-50 AMD vs the E-350 (let's ignore the E-240). The Acer has the same size keyboard (but not as good) and the same size and resolution screen (gloss, not matte). Overall the acer is a lesser machine but if you are looking for small, cheap, secondary computer I would currently go with that Acer vs the x120e just because it's $200 vs ~$400+. BTW, the reveiws suggest the Acer is like using a netbook that happens to have the ability to play 720p and some 1080p videos. My experience using this x120e makes me thing I could do almost all my home computing with a E-350 chip. I suspect I would be quite happy with the Acer had it been an option when I got this.

Well I was lOoking at getting the version with the E-240... Is that not worth it?

For the minimal price difference between it and the E-350 version of the X120e, no, it's not worth it.

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could alleviate some of my concerns. I feel like it might just be me, but my x120e seems a bit slower than I was expecting. I knew it wasn't going to be anything too spectacular, but basic programs don't seem to run as smoothly as they should.

I can't say I know much about figuring out if it really is going slow, but CPU usage is usually about 50% or higher. I have the E-350 and I'm running on 6gb of ram (I know that's a little much).

Purchased the 05962RU model from Abe's of Maine for about $464 including free shipping and no sales tax. (used loyalty15 code for $15 discount)

Considered the dm1z from HP as several reviews said it was better choice vs. X120e due to lower cost. Well, dm1z is more expensive with Windows 7 Pro and equipped similarly.

Other netbooks with E-350 and Radeon 6310 are either not much cheaper or more expensive than 05962RU model and they are not as well equipped. They typically have 2GB or RAM, Windows 7 Premium and some don't have bluetooth.

X120e has a matte screen which I prefer.
It's a Thinkpad so you get better business level support, not consumer level like it's competitors, and business level support is much better.
It's a Thinkpad so it has a great keyboard.
Has both pointing stick plus trackpad.
Great construction typical of Thinkpad. Robust construction adds weight and the design is conservative, I don't mind, I'm extremely happy with X120e.

Quality, value, features all made the choice of X120e easy compared to other netbooks.

Just glad I purchased the X120e before it's possibly replaced by X121e. Not a fan of the changes on X121e.

I too found it a bit slower than I wanted. I was previously using a Acer Aspire One netbook (with the AMD Ahtlon II K125 processor). There isn't that much of a speed improvement going to the x120e for programs but video is a lot better.

What I find helps is to use it plugged in and turn the CPU settings in the AMD control panel to the max. I also tried using a SSD but couldn't really notice the improvement, or at least not enough to justify forking out a few hundred $$ for a 200 GB SSD.

While not 'great', I still like it a lot with the keyboard and screen. Way better than the Acer and also only cost me $400 so it is hard to find anything faster for that price. You'd be looking at one of those Ultra portables like the new Samsung which is... what... a grand?

Yay! Just got mine today :D This net/notebook seems nice as reviews :D It scored 3.8 out of the box with specs: Win 7 Pro, E-350 chip, 4GB RAM, 320 GB HDD. I think I'm going to do BIOS update. Very happy with this machine so far. It feels very sturdy and looks nice too :D

Anyone recommends clean install? Also, it comes with Lenovo's Recovery on a separate section of about 10GB of the HDD, can I delete it?

I have the same specs as you, and I absolutely love this machine. As with any new notebook, I would suggest you do a clean install. For me, the Recovery partition was useless, as I already have software installation media, and every device driver is available on the Lenovo website. I installed Win7 Ultimate via UEFI and reformatted the entire disk as a single partition GPT. You won't run into problems from deleting the recovery partition at all.

Just got my Thinkpad X120e with 6 cell battery, I am surprised that it feels heavier than my Thinkpad X201 (with 6 cell battery). The machine runs very hot also. My x201 will never get this hot even if it runs a lot of things at the same time. I guess I got what I paid for ...

The x120e is slightly heavier than a x201 when both are using a 6 cell. Why did you get the x120e when you already have a x201?

What SSD would you recommend for my x120e? I am going to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and do not require too much space, maybe 64 GB at most.

I'm very happy with this laptop. Coming from an atom N270 netbook @ 1024x600, the screen seems enormous. Could somebody pls repost how to recalibrate the screen for more contrast and vibrancy? Saw it on a thread somewhere but can't locate it now. I've always worked on a large resolution screen, Sun workstations in the 80's, then dual panels at high res for many years, then I ended up traveling for several years with a netbook. I couldn't find a machine that was light enough with a decent matte screen until the x120e came out. For me, 11.6 is the sweet spot. I think the ergonomics of this laptop are great. It's the best laptop I've ever owned. CPU + graphics chip are plenty capable for my use. I can barely hear the fan at all, and heat seems negligible.

One thing I have noticed on my x120e is that there is a mark on my screen from the trackpoint every time I close the lib. Anyone else has this problem? Not sure if I can adjust the height of the trackpoint.

I've owned my x120e since it first came out - never had a problem with it. Also great for playback of HD to my 42" tv.

I've not so far created a recovery disk - but think I should do it now, Never done this before so just a bit of advice. I know there is a Lenovo utility to create a recovery disk on the USB, what size USB do you need and once you've created it - do you have to keep that USB stick exclusively as a recovery disk, or can you just copy the files onto another say 1tb disk, or even onto the cloud, which you can then copy back onto a stick easily if and when you need it.

What are the options - thanks.

Has anyone had BSOD issues with their x120e? In the last two weeks or so I think I've had 3 BSOD incidents that all occured when playing a youtube video. The driver would stall out then the video driver would restart after that the computer would crash. Any thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying an x121e, and I have a quick question, so I don't think I wanted to post a new thread for this. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

For WiFi, I have three choices:

    ThinkPad 1x1 b/g/n
    Intel WiFi Link 1000
    ThinkPad 2x2 a/b/g/n

They are all around the same price, with the 1x1 as default.

I want to ask, what is the difference between these three options, and which one would be best? Since there's only a tiny difference in price between these options, I'll just select which one is best.

Is there a difference in terms of range or power usage with these options?

There are several trackpoint nubs, including a concave one, which might not touch the screen. If you don't use it, you could remove it, as well.

If you're talking about creating the recovery media on USB drives, then the answer is both yes and no.

The first image is the bootable recovery environment. This will erase all content on the drive and create a bootable USB stick. This normally goes on the CD, if you chose to burn it on disk media.

The next image is the actual recovery files, which can be placed with other files on a USB drive. It will not erase other content. This normally goes on two DVDs, if you chose to burn it on disk media.

Yes, this is a known issue. I haven't noticed it much with my X120e, but it does happen on my T500. It's from the finger oils that the TrackPoint accumulates and leaves on the screen when pressure is applied to the lid. The best way to prevent it is to place a thin cloth (something like a lens cloth for glasses) over the TrackPoint when you close the lid and take the laptop with you.

The concave TrackPoint makes much less of an impression, and the eraserhead TrackPoint leaves no impression, but nowadays, Thinkpads don't come with extra tips.

i dont seem to have any answers on this thread, but more questions.

SO a while back i complained about a huge buzzing sound whenever i tried using the in-line mic. it still does it, so now since i have full back ups of everything i decided to call lenovo about it. (so that issue can be buried).

the night before i was playing some stuff through hdmi to my tv and decided to browse a bit after watching some stuff. put it on my lap and it gets so hot, like tpfcontrol said, 94c. which is ridiculous.

so during the call, i tell them it was hot as and they said cool, they'll take a look as they fix the mic.

i took out the 8gb ram i had, and put back their stock 2gb ram, just so they dont mess up something i bought. anyway, im playing around with it now and its temperature has been nice around 70 hit a high of 83.

could the 8gb of ram have been causing the overheating issues? it was 8gb of pny, suggested on this thread maybe around page 35-45 cant remember. (search didnt work either)

The x100e and x120e share the same 6 cell battery, so finding one cheaper than Lenovo shouldn't be a problem. I believe the part # is 57Y4559.

just joined the x120e club today!!

i had a quick question, hopefully someone can answer it for me.
the x120e is supposed to have a spill resistant keyboard (as far as i can remember)....and ive seen some other thinkpads that have spill resistant keyboards, and these other thinkpads had these drain holes at the bottom so any liquid could drain out. Why doesnt the x120e have any of these holes? did lenovo come up with some new design?

also, if any links could be provided to optimize my x120 please do share!! thanks! :)

Can someone tell me what that audio application is called that pulls up a GUI with some settings for HDMI output and the like? It was in the start menu, but ever since I uninstalled the drivers and let it re-install, that manager has been gone and now I can't find a way to enable echo cancellation.

Hello, I had just reflahsed my BIOS to remove the whitelist and while it recognizes my Intel 6230 now...it still dosent show my integrated bluetooth as enabled. Looked at the BIOS and it says enabled already...

    Any ideas would be welcome...

I read how there were some playback issues when watching 1080p YouTube clips. I wasn't sure if this only applies to the slower e240 models. Is this not a problem with the faster e350 processor.

also, I plan on hooking the laptop up to a 24 inch screen. Do you think this x120e can handle it, again, playing 1080p YouTube videos.

    thanks!

anyone tried a fresh install of windows 7? I created a USB installer but all I get during boot up is a disk error...tried it on 2 different laptops and it works but not on the x120e.

any way around this would be a big help...thanks!
