Where are the warranty configuration options on the X201/s? Also, the only thing holding me up is:
-Better processor
-Stereo speakers
-Webcam
vs
-Better screen
And I think this is the case for a lot of people... -
For X200s and (in the future) X201s, it basically comes down to a choice (due to incompatible parts in the LCD assembly).
- Want webcam and WWAN: have to give up WXGA+ screen
- Want WXGA+ screen: have to give up webcam and WWAN

The 4 cell allows the main system to be light if you only need it for a little while (i.e. less than three hours), or if you plan on also taking your AC adapter. The 9 cell gives triple the battery life of the 4 cell and and weighs about as much as the 4 cell and AC adapter combined.
However, if you're going with only one battery, I would recommend the 6 cell. It doesn't stick out the back (although it does stick out the bottom), provides double the battery life of the 4 cell, and provides a good compromise between weight and life.

ordered x201 with i7-620M 9-cell bat, $1167 shipped with tax

jonlumkin,
Sorry about that. You did make the recommendation for the 6 cell battery in your original message. I ended up buying the 4 cell and the 9 cell without realizing that I was too lazy to make decisions between the two when I went out
One thing I would like to say is that unlike most netbooks with extended batteries, the 6 cell on the X200 is a work of art and barely noticeable. I can see why they removed the 4 cell battery option from the website for the last few months for the X200 series. -
Just want to confirm that the x200 battery (43R9253) will work for my x201s before I purchase it.
-
Would the palmrest of the new x201 with touchpad fit onto the old x200, since they have the same case design. Would the connector fit and feature the touchpad of the x201.
Would be great if someone with both models could test this. -

Well the UK model X201s comes with the 1290 x 800 screen and webcam ... 1440 x 900 is perfect on a 13 inch screen but TOO small on a 12 inch screen ... ouch !
-
It's not too small for some people. For others, the DPI can be adjusted. Windows 7 makes this wicked easy.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Thinkpad Wireless option and the various Intel options? Is any one particularly better?
-
That's a tough one. When I was purchasing a X200s, I went with the most expensive Intel non-WiMAX option and regretted it. It performed worse than my netbook regardless of the drivers and there were complaints all over the Internet about it. I haven't learned my lesson yet though. I went with the Ultimate-N wireless card with my X201s because they have promised "optimizations" for it. I don't know which one would be best. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Range, power, speed?

I can't find the 8-cell battery option on the configuration page, did anyone order a x201t with the 8-cell battery already?
-
the parts are listed together in the HMM because it's an inclusive release showing both the X200 and X201 series systems. being listed in the same HMM doesn't mean one can assume interchangeability in parts. only the machine type numbers listed next to a part guarantee interchangeability.
so, if you want UltraNav then you'll need to get an X201, X201i, X201s, or X201T.

That are various different part numbers for 9-cell battery listed in the HMM, but the battery capacity is not specified there. The one currently selling on Lenovo.com accessories page has a listed capacity of 84.24 (= 10.8 V x 7.8 Ah) and has a part number not found in the HMM. More confusing is that, when you try to configure a X201, your only choice of 9-cell battery is just "ThinkPad X20 0 Series 9 cell Li-Ion Battery". Not sure if this is the 94Wh one or 85Wh one. -
Yeah, that tripped me up too. Only reason I got the 9 cel with the X201s is because of the battery bump. I already have an extra 6 cell at home.
-
I am going to order x201 with SSD within a week, but before I do that, I have a few questions to ask you guys.
1. 6 cells vs. 9 cells. What do you recommend? I am a graduate student.
2. Why does the website say that "X200" batteries?
3. Do you think there will be an additional sale in the near future?
Right now, I am looking at $1488 with the student discount. -
-
@khtse - the HMM shows FRUs, not retail part numbers. the part numbers you see on the sales site will be different than what's listed in the HMM for this reason.
batteries may have received a bump in capacity but i'm not aware of the physical mounts changing at all (from what i've been told, anyway). that is what i was referring to above. -
-
I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but for some reason the i7-620M is only configurable when you select the Enhanced or Elite builds. If you choose the base version, you can only select from the i5's. Why?
-
I have both and I exclusively use the 9 cell. The 9 cell battery is like the energizer bunny, it keeps going and going.....
With the 9 cell, I can take my laptop to school and use it for the whole day without carrying any chargers. -
I'm wondering if there is much of a difference in boot times between the X201 and X201s model if one used the high end model with SSD? Better performance with 32 bit or 64 bit as well on these new X201 models?
I'm getting close to finally ordering one -
Im curious about one thing:
http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas...ThinkPad/X-Series/X201 ThinkPad datasheet.pdf
says that X201 with nine cell is 295 x 233.8 x 20.7-35.3
while
X201s with nine cell 295 x 210 x 20.7-35.3
A typo? I mean, i guess it is, but still -
-
-
I don't think it's a typo. From what I understand the 9 cell doesn't sit flush with the bottom in either model, and so it raises it up, effectively increasing the height from top to bottom/thickness to 1.4" for both models. Although the body of the 201s may still be slimmer, the overall height is made equal by the 9 cell. -
Looks like they changed it finally. The i7-620 is now available on the base config as well. -
-
I see what you're saying. It must be a typo. The tabook correctly lists the x201s depth with a 9 cell at 234mm.
-
i'm thinking about getting the x201s, but i have a few questions.
1. how well would linux work on it? i'm planning on installing arch linux.
2. could i buy it without windows? i'd rather not pay for an os i won't use.
3. is the bluetooth built-in? what is 'bluetooth spacer'? i'm guessing n/a.
4. how does the thinkpad b/g/n compare to the centrino options? -
bluetooth spacer = no bluetooth. It's not built in, you can buy it without it and add your own module if you like.
I don't believe you can buy it without windows. It is thrust upon you. -
-
In the US I don't believe you can get a ThinkPad with DOS through normal channels. Maybe there's a way to do it otherwise.
Any time you've got the newest just released hardware, you'll have more issues with Linux.
I've never been able to tell a noticeable difference between a ThinkPad card and an Intel card, but I would point out Intel hardware always has excellent Linux support if you're going that way. -

Why aren't there any warranty options for the X201? There is for the X201s.

I just placed an order of X200S about 2 weeks ago. The Est Ship Date is 3/9. Is there a way that I can convert this order to X201S? I could not believe that the new model is out yet the old one has not shipped.
Questions 2: I ordered SU9400 and 128GB SSD.
How is this CPU compare to i7? I noticed i7 is 17W vs. SU9400 is 10Watt. Will it make a difference in an small machine? The last thing I want is overheating laptop like my X61s that I'm using now. -
I just got a shipping notice. ?
x201/s now available at Lenovo US site
