Bootable CD to update bios for All LG laptops: (I don't know if it applicable in all countries, but I live in Saudi Arabia so at least it applicable for all middle east & maybe Europe)
Extract the contents and burn the image "LGBIOS08.iso" file with nero or any burning tool using a blank CD.Code:http://rapidshare.com/files/147516968/LGBIOS08.rar
....
Warning: I'm not responsible for any damage .....etc
This bootable cd IS not user friendly! because its NOT for the public.
But actually it somewhat easy to follow..
It worked for me like this:
![]()
I choose the first choice. << since the laptop have internal DVDRom
![]()
this the second screen so I just typed: LG <<uppercase.
after that it asked for the Model name or SN number << you can find it in a sticker under the laptop.

جزاك الله خير
Thx alot..
we all looking for this update ...
i guess many ppl need this to upgrade their HHD... -
thomaskc.dk
The update fixed a problem for me (to correctly recognize SATA HDD that have a capacity above 160GB)..
nothing more (I notice the Intel logo has changed)
I don't recommend to update the bios unless you have a problem.

Hi again, I checked all the versions.. and it seems the one "new" you got on your disc is the one already in my p300
so no need to update it seems.

Hi!!
I updated my LG P1, actually has the RKYWSF33 version but the bios is still recognize 3.2Gb (When It has 2x2Gb) and only 137Gb of a 320Gb hard disk.
I think that there's a bios option to fix the hard disk problem. I see an option called 'SATA' and it has 2 options: Enchanced and Compatibility. Now, Enchanced option is selected.
I hope you can help me.
Thanks!!! -
go here:
http://www.48bitlba.com/
it seem that your laptop need either:1- Updated OS (I think you need at least xp-sp2 or higher)
2- Updated bios (since you have the latest, unfortunately your only hope is to get an updated bios as you must know that the cd I uploaded its now older by almost a year)
I'm now thinking LG want us to buy another one as I'm sure they know this situation very well..
seriously, this is the only thing I hate in LG laptop. -
Thanks ameer456,
I tried to install XP-Sp3 but the same problem.
Nowadays i don't find other bios update, the last i found (and installed) is RKYWSF33 on 09/19/07.
In the web that you link, i found this:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_DiskManager.html
Do you think this can help me?
Thx! -
I'm not sure, I think it's an old tool maybe cannot recognize sata drive at all.
so I recommend to ignore it at the moment.
if there any jumber in your HDD try to remove it.
also it seem that "137gb barrier" already an old problem which it must be solved now in all new system..
it's really strange to have it now.
I'm not expert in this situation, but I think it's time to go to the nearest LG customer service center.
one thing: Are the bios recognize the HDD at it's full capacity?
if yes, that mean it's not Bios bug problem. if no that mean you mostly waste your time by searching for a solution here, so go to LG CSC or contact the manufacturer. -
the bios only recongnize 137Gb...this is the problem.
I will go to a LG service but i'm not sure that they will install my hd... -
Thanks alot for sharing this.
would it be safe to update the BIOS while the computer is still under warranty?
(will the warranty wear off?)
[I have no technical problem in updating the BIOS, just curious about the warranty] -
No, updating your Bios will not void your warranty.
-
thanks, I will give it a try...
-
I registered the forum only to thank you, I just made the update from version rkywsf21 to RKYWSF33 and now I can finally get windows to work, linux worked fine after I upgraded to 4gb of ram, it only detects 3gb and its a normal situation the problem was the ati in windows somehow didn't liked more ram, windows appeared in 8bit color, with alot of errors, I just think since the graphic card have dedicated and shared memory with the instalation of more ram didn't knew how to handle it.
I love the LG notebook but I also hate their bios support, I called LG they wanted me to send the notebook for at least 48hours for "repairs" instead of sending a little file.
Thanks again. -
Glad to help
You can try a modified ATI driver (The official latest one modified to recognize the GPU mobile chip)
First: download the latest driver from ATI :select your system then select "Radeon" <<< DO NOT SELECT MOBILITY RADEONCode:ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
Second: go hereHope it will help you.Code:driverheaven.net/modtool.php

No need...

Hello,
I have while i'm Im trying do flash my bios. I have an LG LW60.
I selected the first option like the guide shows, after I see some files being copied, and after this appears on the screen:
h8flash v1.7 (C) LG Electronics, Inc
Read Finish
Checksum is correct_
And the last underscore ("_") is blinking, and computer stays always like this. Does any had this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Sylvain -
isn't this for XP only?
-
oops, my bad, forgot to mention. Yes, it's for XP 32 bit only.
-
Unfortunately this only support some ATI's chip (as stated in it's "inf")
so no support for other mobility Radeon (like HD2x00, HD3x00) unless you modify the driver.Code:[ATI.Mfg.NTx86] "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200" = ati2mtag_M56GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C4 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series" = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1300" = ati2mtag_M52, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7149 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1400" = ati2mtag_M54, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7145 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1600" = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C5 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300" = ati2mtag_M22, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5460 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600" = ati2mtag_M24, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_3150 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE" = ati2mtag_M24C, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5462 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700" = ati2mtag_M26, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5653

Hi!
I have got the LG M1-JDGAG. I updatet my BIOS with this CD (Thanks!).
Unfortunately my Notebook still does not detect my new HDD, still only 128GB instead of 250GB :/
Btw...Ubuntu does detect the full HDD, BIOS and Windows installer do not...
Does this BIOS update solved the problem of your cousin?
Does anyone know, what else I could try to get my HDD working?
Best Regards -
It's also a matter of operating system. If you are Installing Windows XP RTM (the original XP, before service packs) you will not be able to use more than 128gb. You must have XP SP1 and up to see more than 128GB. BIOS is also an issue, but if you have a PC from the last 5 years or so, you shouldn't worry about it.
-
Hey! Thanks for your reply!
I bought my Notebook in August 2006, so this SHOULD not be a problem...
I tried a Windows XP SP2 installation DVD and even a Windows Vista installation DVD. But both told me, that my harddisk has only 128GB.
As I wrote before, Ubuntu installation DVD detects the full 250GB... -
Try to create NTFS partition inside Ubuntu
or by using Gpartedand see what happen inside windows..Code:sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115843&package_id=271779

Hi to all! Finally got my XP SP3 to be installed on my p1 dual express using 500GB Seagate harddisk. Here is the procedure I got it to work.
1) Install bios from rkywsf10 to rkywsf33
2) Go to bios reset all setting to default. save restart.
3) Go to bios check that harddisk is recognised with correct capacity under secondary ide. Disable the 32bit I/O transfer.
4) Go to advanced settings. Put SATA as enhanced mode but disable the AHCI function. Save and restart.
5) insert XP cd into dvd drive
6) start installation as normal
7) the drive will be recognised and can be partitioned and formatted
8) format in ntfs format and then install windows. Viola.
Note: The 137GB keep showing because the bios caused the drive to be permanently become 137GB. You need to use seatools for dos to reset the drive capacity. just start seatools bootdisk and then perform a quick diagnostic and i think the problem is solved. Seatools is found on seagate website. -
Can you put some images?? Specially BIOS configuration and Seatools procedure.
Note: When we are in step #7...the drive in windows installation..has 137Gb or full capacity??
Thx! -
It will show full capacity when the drive is alright. If not showing full capacity, the drive is locked at 137GB. So must use the seatools for dos. Sorry bro, but the seatools is too hard to show cos my drive is already properly installed and I dont wan to corrupt my data.
Bios configuration is very easy to find as there is only one setting need to be changed - the AHCI setting. If cannot find then let me know again. -
Thx at all!
One question:
Disable the 32bit I/O transfer Where is that option?
Thx! -
it is usually disabled for default setting so dont worry
if you wan to check it is in the first page of the bios then you select the harddisk and you can find the setting when you press enter.
So far no problem at all for my 500GB in 3 partitions. 200GB 100GB and 165GB. xp pro sp3 and vista ultimate 32bit installed. -
Thanks to the bios update I could install a 320GB seagate hdd (ST9320421AS). There was not need for using seatools or disabling the 32bit i/O transfer.
Before I got the seagate hdd I tried a samsung hdd (HM251JJ 250 GB) and there was no way to make the bios detect more than 137GB.
But I've another question concerning the m1-jdgag. I installed 4 GB RAM, but the bios shows only 3200MB (Windows 32bit respectively 3.19 GB). Is there any way of making the bios detect the correct memory size?
Thanks in advance, -
Maybe because your CPU doesn't support 64Bit
But it's already fact that 32Bit OS cannot correctly recognize anything above 3x00MB ram << x=?? -
Yes that is correct. 32bit windows can only recognize up to 4GB virtual memory. But in actual memory usage, the real memory capacity used is equal to 4GB minus your video card memory and the address space allocated to a couple of other hardware resources.

Hi!
Thank you for sharing the LG bios update CD. I successfully updated the bios on my P1-J2CJV. I was hoping I could use the full 250 GB of my disk instead of just 137 GB.
Sadly I have not been able to do this, I have a Samsung (HM251JJ 250 GB) disk and it is still reported as 137GB in BIOS and Windows. If I boot up ubuntu (dual boot), GParted can see the full disk. I find this very strange.
I also tried the ESTOOL fro Samsung to set the disk size to the native size but it end with an error! (error! To setup the drive, repower the drive) and the size is still 137GB.
Any suggestions?

this may help..Code:

-
Thanks for the reply, it may work but it would feel safer if bios or windows would also recognize the whole disk. Zephoid posted in #31 that he had no success with the samsung disk.
I will probably try another disk and use the samsung as an external drive but would be nice to be able to use it as it is.
Can you all please report working disks and none working disks. -
The most common brand here in my city "Toshiba / Hitachi" in the first place but I don't recommend it..
I'd rather go for Western Digital, but it's me..
This is really bios side problem or what it seem to me.
I don't think it will help but I read something about HPA "Hidden Protected Area"
look here:
http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/hpa-issues.htm
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Hidden_Protected_Area -
I don't have any HPA on my disk and I also think it is a BIOS issue. I find it strange that a samsung disk shouldn't work. Maybe there is a bug in the disk firmware? The computer should work with harddisks from all brands and they should behave the same.
/Max72 -
In that case the only thing I will do (if I were you) is to contact the customer support (E-mail & nearest service center) maybe there are a new bios for your model. (don't forget to grab the new cd and upload it here ^_^ )
beside (again) you can use your HDD in another laptop or as external usb hdd to just make some partitions then plug it back to your laptop..
just try it and see what happen, you will not lose anything.. -
I finally gave up on the samsung drive and cloned the hd to a seageate ST9250827AS. The hd was recognized as a 250GB disk at the first boot, both by the bios and by windows.
I will try to update the firmware on the samsung drive and see if it can be used. Found some discussions here and a firmware update at Samsung
Running fine on the seagate for now.
/Max72 -
I forgot to tell you that I have been in contact with LG customer support. I called them in september to get a bios update (also to be able to use a larger disk). The support guy I talked to said there where no bios updates to my computer!
I can now confirm that he was misinformed or lied to me, my old bios was from 2006 and there are about 5 to 6 updates since then for the p1 series. -
Hello again!
First post in this thread after new year!
Finally I got the samsung drive to be recognized as an 250 GB drive (it is a HM250JI drive). I used estool from samsung to restore the native size of disk using another computer (it was impossible to do it with the LG P1).
I'm cloning the disk right now and I hope it will be a success. Cloning was successfull!
I will also try to upgrade the memory to 2GB. I have one 1GB module now (under the keyboard) and I'm planning to replace it with a new 2GB module.
Is it possible to use the old 1GB module together with the new one or do they have to be of the same size?
/Max72 -
its ok to use different size of ram
I am using 3GB (1GB+2GB) 667MHz ram
Currently using 3OS XP,vista and Win7 beta on P1 with my 500GB seagate harddisk. No problem encountered at all. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
this is exciting news unless LG is ready for the launch of a whole bunch of new notebooks.
-
OK, thanks for your reply. I will add the 1GB module again.
For the F1 owners:
I have also uppgraded the BIOS on two different LG F1 Express (MSI) laptops with the BIOS CD and it worked as it should.

Hi.
I need some help. I have been trying off and on to fix htis for a while.
I have an LG LS50-N14A. (LS50-8)
I recently purchased a 250GB IDE hard drive (Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE), however the BIOS does not "appear" to support LBA-48 Bit so the O/S only recongises the drive as 137GB.
I have run the BIOS update in this thread and it installs the same BIOS I already have.
The LS50-N14A has a LG McKinley motherboard (which uses the Intel 855PM chipset and the Intel 82801DBM Ultra ATA Stroage Controller) and Phoenix NoteBios 4.0 MDLOSF15, 22/03/2005.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit so there are no issues with the O/S not recognising large drives.
Linux Live CD boots recognise the drive at 250 GB (including Gparted), although adding a new partition up to the 250GB mark causes a boot problem in Vista.
I can using tools such as MHDD to reset the drive capacity to 250GB and this will show up in the BIOS as 250GB but somewhere between POST and Vista booting up it reverts to 137GB. This also includes doing a clean install to the drive. (and no, there is no unallocated space in Vista drive manager to create a new partition).
Is there a BIOS update available that can be applied to enable LBA-48 bit ?
The LG site does not provide an easy way of determining the current/compatible BIOS and the Phoenix site does not provide BIOS upgrades.
Is this another issue I am not aware of ?
I appreciate any help with this.
Thanks in advance.

In the bios disable the AHCP support
-
Thanks
But there is no AHCP option in any of the BIOS screens.
What is it ? -
Meant AHCI?

No AHCI either.
