Ok, I really like this laptop, but I have a doubt yet: I need a very powerful laptop, and I don´t know if this manufacturer (LG) is good making laptops.

So, I wonder if one Serie Z of Sony is most powerful than this laptop, although its specs are not so good. Anybody knows?

    Thanks and greetings!

graphics-wise, not even close. the highest sony gets is about 35% of the LG graphics card. Experiences with the P300 (same laptop as the P310 but slower) have been not bad however in terms of build quality etc.

downgrade to XP should be possible if you have the original CDs etc, but beware of driver issues... I'm not sure if you can find drivers for everything.

I've installed all the major programs I need now, Matlab, Vmware, Office 2007, Daemon Tools, F-Secure Antivirus, and it runs smoothly on vista :D, its even faster than my desktop in terms of Windows use.

I should also say that the webcam has an excellent quality :) I love my laptop ^^

I believe the Z series is a lot worse than my P310 performance-wise, especially in graphics. It does have hybrid GPU, which rises battery life.. but I don't think the +1000€ is worth it.

    cheers

Ok, thanks to both of you. When it comes to Spain I´ll buy it, I thought, but only if I can downgrade it to Windows XP, that´s important for me.

Thanks and enjoy it, it looks as a very, very good laptop! :)

    Cheers!

I think you best order from somewhere you can order the keyboard separately when it's available, unless you want to wait for the whole set up just because of the keyboard's look.

Guys, the P310 has just gone live on the Canadian site.
    P310-K.CPB1A9

    P310-K.CPW1A9

Both the same specs except for the colour and guess what. One more thing has changed.

The GRAPHICS CARD!!!! This is bullsh** 9300m for both models.

I ordered mine earlier this week from notebook.de. Hopefully have it early next week. Thanks for the link, nice to check it out beforehand.

I'm going to see if I can source an English keyboard direct from LG (at some point). I'd imagine the P300 one would work.

I got a little question, since it's from Germany to put it in charge in Canada I'll need a new cable or just an adapter?

It seems to be relatively straight forward to change the language in Vista in addition to the keyboard mapping (from what I've read). I'll let ye know how I get on when I get it.

How would I go about asking for the US keyboard? And, is the model on notebook.de without the stripes on the lid?

I should have picked one up when I was in Dresden and claim a VAT refund :p

Although I often read that only Vista Ultimate is capable of changing languages, this MS support article indicates it can be done in all versions. Let us know how you make out.

They should have put a 9650M GT instead. Same thermal envelope and 55nm instead of 65nm. Pure win... if only :(

I think 9600M GT is enough, unless you find an (13.3") alternative which would be even close to this. :)

Vista Ultimate and Business officially support changing the language completely, but I'm quite sure it can be done with any version with some Googling around.

Check the link in my sig. The 9600M GT and 9650M GT have the same thermal envelope. So they could have upped their laptop to an even more impressive 9650M GT :p

I thought the 9600M was faster because it used DDR3 rather than DDR2 which is more common with the 9650M.

It's up to the laptop company to choose which version they use, I don't think one is more common than the other. HP and Asus like to use DDR2 parts for their 9600M GT and 9650M GTs respectively, MSI uses both, and Apple and LG tend to use GDDR3. 9650M GT is slower if DDR2 but I don't see why they wouldn't use the faster GDDR3.

well, you're talking a 8% increase in performance which would have been nice but kind of ridiculous to complain about when this laptop absolutely smokes any other 13 inch laptop out there by 200, 300 percent.

For those of you in the US who are interested in this here is the response I got from notebook.de when inquiring about the English Keyboard

    "thank you for your question.

The english Keyboard is very hard to get.

The delivery time for it is min. 2 Weeks.

We just ship to overseas just via UPs.

This is very expensive to the United States.

If you send me an eMail with the correct delivery address, i will calculate this for you.

Butt hat will min. be over 200 Euro."

I just got my Tarsia today and ... WOW!!!

I don't get the fan control though. For me there are only two modes, "normal" and "silent". Does the P310 has only two modes where the P300 had three? Or is there a trick to enable what was called "cool" mode back then???
