How's the heat and fan noise ?
-
-
Wow, thanks Galim!
I guess, I can only get the UE40.
Galim, can you tell us how you feel about the screen? -
-
1.heat and fan noise - not heat . i remember lg p300-very hot. p330- not hot .
i play in CALLofDUTY WW3.
2. screen - near i have sony z11- it better screen -
Wow, it sounds amazing. The screen from the z11 is one of the best!
-
hey galim can you run furmark + prime 95 at the same time and record temperatures?
Call of duty isnt very hw intensive and it doesnt tell alot about the temperatures
please this would be very helpful
thank you so much for these photos and info! -

@ nar0: The top doesnt really mean it's the best of the bundle.
The newer architecture could have a positive impact on performance, but the combination of the small 128 Bit interface combined with DDR3 makes this cards bottleneck the memory bandwidth(DDR3 can't be clocked as high as DDR5). -
Hopefully galim can get us some benchmark numbers because the only laptop listed with the GF116 so far that has benchmark numbers has a Core i3. -

what does a portable notebook with a powerful gpu help when you cant use them because they get too hot or throttle..
its a fact that the 555m in the m14x is faster, although it is very positive that this is the 144 shader version -
I just found a "review" of the notebook showing some more pictures: google translated into english, korean source.
But it doesn't have any info on noise/scren quality/battery runtime/temperature readings ... still looking forward for a thorough review... -
It's not IPS..
All I've read is that Koreans are trying to wait for the IPS model as well, but it is projected that it will have a super premium over the other models.
Heck, the P330-UE70K runs for almost $1800~$1900.
With the IPS option, people are speculating that it would easily go over $2100. -
Bit related, but how much is the P220 with the IPS going for in USD?
-
320GB HDD model : P220-SE3(x)K ~ $1000
(The pink model seems to be going for cheaper, about $920?) -
Went through the first few pages, but didnt have time to go through all 47 pages. Anyways I found this:
P330-UE40K:
'LG ???? P330-UE40K 2?? i5-2435M(2.4) 640GB 40GB GeForce GT555M 13.3?? ??????? 4G' ?? ????
P330-UE70K:
'LG XNOTE [??? 8G FULL ??] P330-UE7UK Core i7 2640M 4GB 750GB GT555M 13?? ??? ???? ???' ?? ????
I'm not korean, but when you hover your mouse over the two big buttons it shows something like "but it now" and "add to cart"
After I click buy it now, I get the checkout screen, I think the first big buttons says "buy next" or something when you hover it.
Then I get login screen, I assume the 2nd set of boxes is to register since the top button shows "join us" when you hover your mouse over it.
This is where I stop:
Google Translate
I can see why they would need my name, address, and phone number, but I would never give out my SSN to buy a laptop. Especially in a language that I can not understand.
Does anyone know why they need my ssn? -
And that format is Korean SSN, so your SSN won't work.
Again, if you need a P330 I am able to buy them when I'm in Korea and ship them to you. -
Wait, so what's the verdict on this thing? Is it as good as we thought? Is there anything coming early 2012 that competes with it? What / when is the IPS coming? I love my Z12, and it'd be PERFECT if it had a better video card. This seems like that alternative.
-
No ETA on the IPS model, many have just caved in and bought the TN models that are out right now.
The GT 555m in this is a GF116 core version which has higher performance than the M14x's. Problem is even if a IPS model were to come out, it would be 1366x768, meaning that it would be hard to replace your Z1 if you're used to the 900p. -
How do you get a korean laptop and get it to work in english? Keyboard? Is the p330 keyboard backlit?
-
hmm.. weird, they changed the order of 555m versions and put the GF116 at the bottom. any benchmarks for this ver.?
-
No backlit keyboard, it seems.
And I also noticed they switched the order and put GF116 at the bottom as well.
Maybe it isn't so fast and is bottlenecked by the DDR3 128 bit interface.
To get Windows to work in English, you would have to clean install, but I assume that's what everyone does when you get your laptop with your own copy of Windows. ( You can use the serial on the bottom to activate regardless of language ) -
What about the keyboard? Isn't it in korean?
-
They are simply overlays on qwerty keys so there should be no trouble.
It has english written on the keys in addition to the Korean letters, and the layout is exactly the same. -
-
you can do a clean install from windowsCD (LG recovery CD), and there is a choice of language: English, Korean and some other
-
So what's the verdict on the heat / gaming performance / battery ect. Is it worth waiting a few months for something better? Is there even anything better on the horizon? What are the US prices and the specs for the different models?
-
So far apparently the laptop doesn't really get hot (at least compared to the LG P300 which does get really hot at the exhaust) and there aren't any complaints about throttling, but no real tests to make sure it doesn't throttle have been done yet.
Gaming performance it has the new generation GT555M which may or may not be faster than the M14x
Battery Life was advertised I believe to be 5 or 7 hours if I remember, no actual test results yet.
Don't believe there will be much better in a few months, at least nothing has been annouced that has this amount of power in a small and light 13" chassis.
There's no US prices or release dates, if this will even be released in the US at all. Currently there are 2 korean models.
The UE40K comes with an i5 and 640GB HDD and costs about $1200 USD
The UE70K comes with an i7, a 750GB HDD and a 64GB SDD and costs about $1800-$1900 USD
The IPS Screen version, if any exist, have not been released yet. -
^ Exactly.
To be honest the LG group itself is not doing well. Stock value plummeted, losing tons of market share in their best areas, I'm not sure what would become of LG.
They might not be in for another release of the models, I think they want to test the waters of P330 before making any improvements in like the screen, etc. -
But with Ivy Bridge, Radeon 7000 series and GT 600 series right around the corner in Q1 of next year, we shall see... -
M14x is 1 kilo more than p330 so it s normal it gets a bit more power.
Clevo made a 15 inch with gtx 580m for 600 grms more than M14x....
I really don t think they belong to the same league.
Actually the best competitors of p330 are equipped with 520m/6630m or 540m.
I owned m14x for a week and i just returned it because it weight almost the same as my mbp 17 inch. And i didn t like the screen (sorry out of topic). -

Has anyone found any other alternatives, I could only find these:
GT 555m
Asus N45SF
Alienware M14x
GT550m:
Lenovo Ideapad Y470
ASUS 43SN
Asus 45SF
GT 540M:
Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830TG
Packard Bell Easy Note NX69
Asus U46SV
Asus X43SV
MSI X460DX -
-
Wow, that Asus is sexy. If only it had a good screen! I don't think anything will ever compare with the sony Z. If the Z2 had an internal 555GT or something similar, I'd die. I love my Z1, but I'd like some more GPU power.
-
-
Yea, its on that list
problem is, the screen isn't 1600x900. It also doesn't say what kind of quality screen it is. I could deal with a lower res for a premium panel.
-
Asus N45SF and N43SN aren't pleasing to my eye, they look really cheap but performance is good (at least in N45SF).
Alienware M14x is too bulky, heavy and ugly, and also overpriced (1500 USD), specs are great though.
Lenovo Ideapad Y470 I really like this one, good looks, solid build quality and pretty good performance, and also can be heavily customizable. Sadly this isn't available in the Europe, I couldn't find anywhere, otherwise I would have choose this one.
Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830TG has throttling problems, but being a 13.3" it is really compact which I like alot. It also has a good screen (although glossy one).
Packard Bell Easy Note NX69 is cheap but still 200 USD more than Asus X43SV, I didn't like the looks or the brand. There were also some complaints about build quality feeling very plastic.
Asus U46SV was priced little high two months ago (in Finland 1100 USD and in other parts of Europe cheapest was 1000 USD), it is very compact with still good screen estate with being a slim bezel 14", good build quality and above average performance. Screen could have been better.
MSI X460DX compared to Asus X43SV was little bigger and heavier and priced 100 USD higher in otherwise very similar package, so picking was easy.
Asus X43SV a.k.a Asus K43SV, I bought this one because very cheap price, from Amazon.de it was only 600 USD. It had poor performance compared to others in this list but with my tweaking I solved it somewhat easily. It has IMHO good looks, and pretty good build quality (not the best but much much better than my previous HP DV6, at least surrounding of keyboard is made of aluminium), runs very cool and is really quiet (after BIOS update which fixed fan constantly running), Idle temps 45C and even when playing BF3 70C without hardly any fan noise. Screen was a very big disappointment after HP DV6.
Then I started modding this X43SV:
i3-2310m -> i7-2630qm (also changed thermal paste to IC Diamond 7)
overclocking GT540M gpu 675mhz/900mhz -> 800mhz/900mhz (memory couldn't handle any overclocking)
4GB DDR3 1333mhz -> 8GB DDR3 1333mhz
320gb -> 96gb Kingston SSD and 1000gb Samsung M8 (removed optical drive)
german layout keyboard -> backlight nordic layout keyboard
14" 1366x768 glare -> 14" 1366x768 matte screen (could have just as easily upgrade it to 1600x900 but then my gaming performance would have decreased so I decided to stick with lower resolution)
and lastly I changed my wlan card to Wlan + BT 3.0
This all affected to performance a great deal:
3dmark06 gave me a score before any changes 8500 points and after these 10700 points
BF3 framerate increased in native resolution and High settings from average 22fps to 45fps
Temperatures increased on load from 70C to 78C but still it doesn't feel hot at all, and is really quiet, I am impressed with the cooling solution of this laptop.
My next upgrade will be to change notebooks covers from stock dark brown to all white, and to make internal usb hub inside the computer so my gaming mouse receiver will be hidden and also free its usb port
On a last note the Asus stock 90W charger was really big so I bought Lepa 90W AD9009 which is ridiculously small, smaller than my walletI highly recommend this to all (it came with adpaters to all current laptops)
Btw. LG P330 would be my dream laptop, and any of these laptops in the list can't compete with it but I have followed half year of this product and what first seemed to be vaporware, now seems that it will never come out available outside of South Korea. I'm sadWhat a great modding platform it could have been
Oh, I almost forgot: One very good alternative could be Samsung NP700Z4A, it is very small aluminium laptop with thin bezel and 14" 1600x900 matte screen, i5-2430m, 8GB, 750GB, 6750m, backlight keyboard. 15.6" bigger brother (NP700Z5A) of this laptop has received plenty of criticism about its screen quality but I think it could be satisfactory. Currently it has been released only in the Thailand and Philippines and tomorrow (15. of December) it will be released in the China. Price tag of this product is 1300 USD (reasonable regarding its specs). -
In simple fact one of the very best methods of getting rid of these pests is by sealing off the doors and windows of your residence on a long term basis and this will drastically reduce the quantity of fruit flies. How do I get rid of how to get rid of fruit flies is really by sealing off the windows of my household.
A full Elevation Polish Collection. Every collection essie polish that I’ve put out in one single swoop. This set includes oldie but goodies rarely seen. Nya, Aurora, and an updated Ama Dablam for a total of 100 bottles of Elevation Polish. -
One with the i5, and the other with i7.
Neither are IPS panel at this point. -
You can also add
6650M:
Sony Vaio Z
6630M:
Sony Vaio SB
Sony Vaio SA -
Vaio Z has a dock card which I hear has bandwidth issues. Also, it gets super hot apparently. It's really not made for any gaming from what I understand.

I think I found another review:

You guys do know that the narrow bezel is a scam, right?
The entire black screenish-looking part is not a part of the screen, it is simply a black insert that looks like the bezel.
