not really
p330 315mm x 215mm vs. other 13.3" laptop 333mm x 225mm
in p330 p430 p530 display is a little like you say "scam" not so "slim bezel" like in p220
but even with this p330 is the smallest 13" notebook (sony Z old generation was also)
p310 315x236 (16:10 lcd) and p330 with 16:9(wider and lower height than 16:10 lcd) should be 330x225 but thanks to "slim bezel" is 315x215
14" p430 is in size of 13" standard notebook,
show me so small 15" notebook as p530 is (364x244 and weight of 2.15kg!)
![]()
dell xps 14z advertised as a small 14"notebook in size 13"
uses the same lcd as p430
![]()
![]()
but xps14z 335x235 vs 329x226 p430 so here you have a scam!but not as great as in alienware ;P
m11x 11"notebook in size of 13" and weight of 14"
m14x 14"notebook in size of 15" and weight of 16"
i go alienware if they puts the right display to match body size
-
Yeah, except in Korea they advertised the bezel to be a blade bezel with way less dimensions than they turned out to be.
-
I only saw these ads
and everywhere they give correct dimensions
up 17mm
sides 11mm
from ads you can read one more thing
Koreans sucks at Photoshop (or maybe it is marketing)
in these images it look like there is NO bezel
and the base is flattened -oh! This is ultrabook
-
how did all these changes affect your battery life? ideally I am looking for something with 4 - 10 hours of battery life (high performance - battery saver)
-
Wait.. 4 hours on High Performance can't be possible. At least on one with a dedicated GPU and a full-power CPU.
-
X43SV doesn't have optimus so intel's HD3000 graphic chip can't be used
So the GT540M will handle all the work. Battery life didn't get affected at all by my changes that I made, but the starting point was pretty weak, approx. 2,5hours to max 3 hours on normal usage (max brightness). It is pretty much the same as before.
-
The m11x's screen is definitely way too small for that case. It looks like a 13" 4:3 screen might fit there.. Not to mention its thickness and weight..
-
i would say you cant compare the x43sv to the m14x specwise and build quality wise..
I wanted to get this lg p330 notebook in september but it seemed like a vapour product.. i waited a long time until i got the m14x (for a very good german price, 400 euros cheaper) and im very happy with it.. especially that it has a nice 1600x900 display and the keyboard is fantastic too..
the only one of the notebooks that comes close specwise is the samsung one you mentioned, but i doubt this comes out in europe or germany.. germany isnt a fan of 14 inch notebooks anyways

atleast we know some ppl already posess it now -
Ok I just made a transfer to a computer shop in yongsan for a p330 ue-70. It will be shipped soon by dhl so i will got the lappy next week.
Be sure that I will report my experience with the notebook and answer all your questions. -
You mean that someone sells this online to other countries? Or do you live in South Korea? Could you please tell which shop did you use and how much did it cost to you with shipping?
Yeah I know, they are totally different computers. But sadly selection of powerful but yet still compact notebooks is very poor. -
I asked a korean friend to contact a shop in yongsan (electronic district in seoul) and to make a quotation for this lappy with shipment to tokyo. I don t think they can speak english though but it seems that worldwide shipping is possible. I can give phone and address of the shop after i get the laptop.

This must sound awfully familiar to owners of the P300 who went through a similar process to import theirs. As much as I like this P330, at this point, I'm waiting to see the new models being introduced at CES in January.
-
Natadiem, how much was the UE-70?
-
If you want 10 hours of battery life, you should look at a netbook, although you won't be gaming very often on it (if at all). Netbooks are usually quite cheap though, around $300 will get you a decent one. The closest to "high performance" would be to overclock the integrated chip in it and also the CPU, which could increase performance slightly at the cost of battery life.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
not at all, there are several notebooks that can achieve that, x220, mbp.... -
It's hard to find a GT 555m with 10 hours of battery life... I think a more realistic compromise would probably be:
Lenovo Ideapad Y470 (GT 550m) 5 or 6 hours
Asus U46SV (GT 540M) 9 or 10 hours -
I have to give a huge thanks to Ryan, it seems that I will receive my LG P330-UE40K in couple weeks time straight from South Korea
I'll make sure to make comprehensive review about it.
Does anyone know will the UE40K have mSata enabled by default? I think first thing to do is to update it with 128gb SSD drive. And I will consider to upgrade its processor to quad core i7-2630qm Engineering Sample. Not sure is it worth it cause it allready has the i5-2435m. -
it isnt worth to upgrade to a 2630qm.. especially because you dont want your laptop to overheat? i think there is good reason they chose the i7 2620m (which is a dual core i7), which is more expensive than the cheap quad 2630qm.. This is probably due to heat
-
It's an i7-2640M. The difference in max TDP is only 10 watts, and considering the P330 should run fairly cool, I don't think it would lead to any problems heat wise. Also, the 2640M can be a better alternative for gaming since it runs at a higher frequency than the 2630QM while most games don't make use of four cores (that's what we're heading towards though). In the end of the day the GPU will still be the largest bottleneck anyway.
-
The SSD already in it uses mSata, see the picture originally posted by galim68 (thanks!) attached below. Oh, and congratulations on your purchase! I'm strongly considering buying one myself. It hasn't been shipped yet, has it?

This guide descibes how to get past that. I don't know how LG is in terms of bloatware, but I'd generally recommend a clean install.
-
yes the 2640m is just the sandy bridge refresh of the 2620m...
and yes i think it makes a difference, atleast it does in the m14x.. i chose the i5 version only because of the less heat it produces.. i get max temps of about 75 (cpu) and 65 (gpu) while quad core 26xx and above owners reach temps of 90 to 95 and 75 degrees
So, it would be very nice to find out how the lg p330 handles the heat of the cpu AND the gpu, so a benchmark with prime95, furmark and temperature readings would be very nice.. i would suspect it to downthrottle atleast, but if it isnt too bad, i might get the lg p330 -
This is the information we've been given about heat in this laptop:
It's not that much to go on, so we're both guessing here. I would love to get a proper temperature read myself under heavy load. All I'm saying is that if it already has some temperature headroom, 10 watts more combined with a better heatpaste shouldn't be too far fetched. But again, can't say anything for sure. I'm afraid I made my guess for the change in temperature sound more minor than it would be. As you probably know, the P330 was originally slated to have an i7-2630QM, but one might just as well go the other way around and say that there was a reason they swapped it for the 2640M. -
Yeah I would be concerned already about cooling in laptops this size. Even my 14 inch with GT 550M and i7-2630qm was pushing low 90's when I play BF3. (BTW the laptop exterior doesn't get hot at all, but EVEREST shows very high CPU/GPU temperatures). If someone were to shrink down the laptop by one inch, add an even more power hungry GPU, and add a quad-core, I think it would fail itself within a very short amount of time.
It will be interesting to see how hot this laptop runs. I am guessing it will reach mid 90's while doing intensive gaming.
However, I think when Ivy Bridge and the Radeon HD 7000/GT(X) 600's come out Q1 of next year, there will be significant temperature drops for laptops with equal specs in GPU/CPU because of the 10nm shrink from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge. -
Yes, no doubt such a shrinkage will do wonders to the temperature/performance. Question is how long it'll take before someone makes a laptop similar to the P330 with new components. Laptops like this one don't come too often. Oh, and I thought Ivy Bridge and Nvidia Kepler wouldn't come out before Q2?
-
Ok my p330 shipped from korea. Unfortunately i am on holliday trip until jan 6th. I ll review the laptop at this time. It cost me 150k JPY which is good price. Yen is strong these days against won and USD.
-
Oh I didn't even realize that it comes by default with 40Gb SSD. Which is still way too small so upgrade to 128gb or even 256gb is inevitable. Im expecting that it will ship to me within a week, so I'll probably will get a hold for it in the first or second week of the next year. so about the same time as Natadiem will get it
Yayyy!
-
You apparently made quite a good deal there. 1920usd for UE70K model isn't bad at all. I paid 1267usd for the UE40K model with the shipping to Finland
If the customs will notice it and they make me to pay the taxes, then the price will climb to 1600 usd
But we'll see about that.
-
I guess that's my job, right?
But I highly doubt they will not notice the sealed box... -
Yeah
According to my previous experiences they are pretty good with that, but sometimes I have received goods right under their noses
btw. Thank you Ryan for this, I'm pretty excited to swap from my Asus to LG
-
yes this will be very interesting to see!
the 22nm ivy bridge and 28nm gpu should enable a lower voltage and thus less heat..
But, in theory (this is just plain guessing), it seems the smaller the cpus got the more heat they produce, if you compare c2d to sb, they do run alot cooler.. im not sure if the upped transistor amount creates more heat.. but as i said i have no clue, if someone knows anything about this topic please enlighten me
-
I'm not sure if it will run cooler, but I think it will be able to handle heat better. For example, my old Dell XPS M1330 got to high 80's low 90's CPU when gaming, but the GPU got to about 110, had unexpected shutdowns, and then ceased to work after a while.
But I really can't tell, because I have only had my Y470 for half a year and I haven't done too much gaming on it after I got my free workstation from my Dad's company.
I'm pretty much basing a lot of my beliefs on the Radeon 4000 series vs the Radeon 5000 series, cause the 5870 > 4890 but the 4890 was an oven according to other people -
Hey Everyone,
I am still not back to my home in Japan but I will be back tomorrow. The good news is that the notebook package has arrived to my home
.
I will probably post my first impressions tomorrow and I will prepare in another thread a deep review about this notebook.
If someone else get it maybe we can open a lounge thread
.
Of course the first test will be "heat management" through heavy benchmarking
.
-
Looking forward to it Natadiem
Thanks for your effort to imform us! -
Sounds fantastic
My P330 is on its way in the hands of the EMS courier, should come to me in a week or so. I'm looking foward the lounge thread
-
Enjoy!
It also had the option of an English windows so I chose English and entered your name.
I also created a recovery partition on the hard drive. It should be good to go as soon as you receive it.

Ok finally I have my p330.
I used it for a couple of hours so far. It s small, silent and powerful. Screen has low contrast but brightness is good. I prefer this screen than m14x one, especially for colours.
I played supreme commander with everything maximized and no problem it was really fast.
The one problem i have in order to properly test everything are nvidia driver. The one with lg is 270 something so far i couldn t install anything newer. Because of this i can t play diablo 3 beta with nvidia card. Skyrim is very impressive already but it would be so much better with new driver. Does anyone has a way around?
Other than that i could work 5h30 doing excel and 70 percent brightness. My ssd 512gb m4 was not recognized from the machine.
Speakers are really bad but touchpad is surprisingly good.
So far zero problem from heat but i didn t properly test it yet. Still my m14x was way warmer just playing games.
If you have any questions please do so. My mbp 17 is going to be sold, i have know same power for half size and weight! -
^you tried using custom inf for the nVidia driver ?
or add in the hardware id into the inf yourself ? -
Well, i saw that but not sure how it works.
-
-
Thank you so much. I ll try and post results.
-
Well, in order to create an inf, I would need the original driver... But there is no driver cd within the notebook, it s in a hidden partition on the MSATA drive. There is no way to explore this partition through windows explorer...
The driver is rather old...Is anyone has any idea? -
or try use this inf
http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/280series/28026_win7x64/nvwi.inf
If the installer still cannot recognize,
Open the inf using notepad, Find one line '555M',
e.g. NVIDIA_DEV.0DCD.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M"
then find a line with NVIDIA_DEV.0DCD.01
e.g. %NVIDIA_DEV.0DCD.01% = Section102, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0DCD
change the PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0DCD to your hardware id from device manager
Hopefully can start install. -
Thanks Lee,
Unfortunately the link doesn t work for me
-
Can't download?
v280.26 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | NVIDIA OEM Notebook - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
Click the 'INF Modified' -
The inf doesn t work (I have to replace the inf in the driver folder right?). The same message appears.
What do you mean by e.g.? -
Yup. overwrite the old inf files.
I mean 'example' since there are different GT 555M on the inf files.
