You're going to install it, maybe get a few headaches with drivers (though hopefully not), and then find all that computer power that you lost running Windows. Your machine will run so much faster it'll amaze you.

If it's the LiveCD, then you just need to boot your NB with it, no need for install (you can do it though).

    Hmm.

Well I'm not going to do anything while I have an essay to write! I might try it as I'm planning to do a re-install anyway.

    I have some questions:

My x200m is only supported by omega drivers, do they work on ubuntu?

I have a lot of windows software, Photoshop, Nero, Office, Sibelius I'm presuming they won't work under linux?

How easy is it to install? As easy as windows?

    Thanks

The fglrx drivers are what will load up for your video. If all else fails the genaric Vesa video drivers will be used. Omega drivers dont work in Linux.

All the programs you listed wont work in linux. But theres a linux equivalent program for each of them.

The install process is pretty easy. The only thing harder than windows would be if you choose to manually partition your disk.

That should give you lots of information on the ATi driver itself (fglrx).

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

There's where you can find info on how to install the drivers in Ubuntu. As long as you're running 6.10 (Edgy), the installation should be really simple.

You know what? The open sourced Radeon drivers work for the X200. You wont even need to install extra drivers for it, unless you want to use Beryl, or do some gaming.

Hey guys - since getting a new hard drive today (160GB 5400RPM) i have installed Linux Mint 2.2 "Bianca." It's pretty nice...and I would say that its even more user friendly than Ubuntu 6.10. Later this week, I'll try out Ubuntu 7.04 in its Beta...things are really looking wonderful for the Linux world.

Yeah, some of the menu changes they've made in Bianca are pretty nice. I installed it on a mate's computer, cause I knew he'd ***** and whinge about media codecs and having to touch the command line.

But yeah, 2007 looks like it should be very friendly to the open source mob.

You can add the sig to the right of your current one so it won't make it longer, it will just be to the right of your current one like mine.

You can do it by right justifying the IMG link deal.

And yeah... Edgy is still chuggin' away. I'm really looking forward to the official release of Feisty! Edgy is great and all, but Feisty is getting hyped up quite a lot.

Werd. I've still got some bugs here and there, but Firefox is by far the most unstable program on my Feisty install. It crashes every few days usually.

Rockin out the Feisty/Bianca/XP triple boot currently... really itching to get Windows off the hard drive for good, but I can't. I have to use Windows for school programs, and I can't get dual-screen working correctly in Feisty with the nvidia drivers. :(

Evolution is the most unstable & buggy for me...even on Feisty. I thought they worked out the multiple bugs and issues, but they didn't tackle everything.

And yet I still continue to use it... :p

All you have to do is add the banner to your sig. It should be a few pages back, somewhere between page 4 and 7.

And yes, Beryl is still considered unstable beta software. It's currently in version 0.2, and just got there recently. It's likely to be a few years before Beryl is out of beta. AFAIK, AIGLX is also still in beta, but I think Xgl is final.

Its a pretty meagre selection on google...I remember looking for a good OoO memo templates and couldn't find it. Luckily I have a lot of saved files from my M$ Office days...I basically just use those templates. They don't always transfer over well for OoO though. I know that doesn't answer the question, but my guess is that there aren't too many people making templates for Office programs other than Microsoft Office.

I actually find OpenOffice to be quite good to be honest with you. In many ways, I prefer using it to Office because it seems to be much more stable for me (and doesn't crash as often). It just needs more templates, or better operation with MS Office formats/templates. And if O o_O could use Excel macros as well, a lot of people could switch.

Yeah OoO Writer is fine, like ftw said, but more templates and a better spell checker (even though 2.2 in Feisty is much better than 2.1). It's more stable...but I do see where bc135 is going with the Office argument. Certain formatting features are still quirky in OoO.

Maybe I should take some time and design up some templates and submit them to O o_Org. Seems like something that could be useful.
