Hardy Heron Sucks!
j/k
I'll update once FF3 is released.
-
I'm going to uninstall FF3 beta 5, and then update when FF3 is released. Other than that, it's alright, although this Window Decoration thing is annoying...it seems to randomly decide to put pink borders on windows, or menus, or things...
-
Have you tried Beta 5 from mozilla's site? It's much better.
Try uninstalling the ubuntu extension. -
Ok...
(filler) -
I ordered a Ubuntu/Kubuntu CD, just because I'm to laze you buy CDs...
Maybe I'll give them away..... -
Linux all the way!!!!!!!!!!
Linus Torvalds>Bill Gates + Steve Jobs -
I've just recently got into Linux but I've gained so much experience from it i love it!
I personally think that if you've tried one distro you've tried them all but some interesting ones I'm looking into are Ubuntulite and Fluxbuntu.
Although i haven't tried them yet they look very promising as sometimes xfce isn't light enough for a machine but you still want the full Linux experience. Also, Dreamlinux seems like the Mac+Linux infusion, i was thinking of buying a mac someday to see how it was but i think I'd rather use Dreamlinux.
I'm currently running Xubuntu on an old "toy" system and trying to convert a couple of my friends over to Linux. -
Nice Calvin! Continue enjoying linux
BTW, check out the new DTR forum. -
To be frank, the new DTR forum seems a little lame right now, until it has a larger base I'll stay away for a while.
-
-
Well that is a terminally incorrect term Rob, i guess if i wanted to be literal i could have said "If you've tried one distro you're already familiar with many." Which would ruin the effect. =] Looking into Debian and OpenSUSE too right now.
-
Debian is a great distro, but it will take some customizing to get full functionality out of it; codecs, etc. Since you're using a desktop PC, compatibility will not likely be an issue, unless you have AMD or VIA chipsets, which can be a pain sometimes. I really like Mepis a lot, it's a great Debian based distro that uses the KDE DE, which is my favorite.

This thread has revived...

My post, in hindsight, seems sarcastic, Calvin. Sorry. I didn't mean it to be a smarta$$ remark. Actually, when I tried Gentoo and then Arch, I discovered that my IQ was way too low to consider using either. lol Slackware wouldn't install the first couple of times I tried, and the last time I tried to triple-boot Linux/Linux/Linux, I managed to wipe out everything except Fedora. I'm hopeless.
-
Don't feel bad Rob, those are probably the most difficult distros to install and set up. If you keep on using Linux, I'm sure you will eventually be able to work with them.
-
-
Cool, let us know how it goes.
-
Pshh, its all about LSF! THAT is a pain to set up!
-
Or better yet try LFS!
-
So yeah, the VM idea wasn't working so i said "**** it" and now i'm downloading the 5 distro's i wanted to download and try to burn them on CD's to play with on my computer. It's odd, every time i get fed up and say "**** it" a new door of fun opens up for me. I like the way Linux works.
-
Like when you deleted WinXP.
-
Yeah, that was good times. But now that routers don't work with it I'm thinking of popping in an extra RAM stick in my Linux computer and installing XP back on it. I love Linux but i really need my wireless to work. =X
-
I'm in. Don't exactly have a dedicated Linux partition. Using Wubi right now.
-
Wubi is cool, but.....I'd rather have the full thing.
-
So what r the requirements again to be in the nbr linux team. Can I be one too
-
Not really any requirements lol.
-
Sad this is my first post to the team thread.....LOL -
Lol.....................
-
-
Ok i peformed that ritual. Now am part of the team and will try to help people as much as I can
-
-
Welcome to the Team
-
Yeah, since Wubi screwed up my Vista installation like crazy, I installed Fedora on a USB drive and have been happy since.
-
I've actually been using LinuxMint on my Linux box, and I'm about to dual boot with it on this one. I really like it, you should give it a try Leon.
-
-
-
Im from Canada and here it goes below -25C
-
Now that i think about it, i kinda snuck myself onto the team. I didn't do the ritual.

So, yesterday in the late afternoon, I rang my neighbour's doorbell and when he opened the door I threw a bucket of water over him.
It was a huge bucket so it took him a few seconds to get his grips and respond, he looked at me and said; "Right...., new NBR Linux team member? Okidoki."
I thought he took it pretty well...
I'll be using the NBR Linux sig soon. -
I would like to join up!
I'm running ubuntu, kubuntu, and sabayon on various desktops/laptop.
-
Sure, welcome to the team.
-
-
Oh pick me pick me I use Unbuntu
(sweet Unbuntu banner I must have it!) -
I successfully installed openSUSE v10.3 (GNOME). Everything works out of box (except ATI graphics which need drivers). Even my Scientific Atlanta WebSTAR cable modem (which is attached via USB 2.0) is recognized immediately and I didn't have to install drivers which is must under Windows.
I don't like the way of installing Catalyst drivers. It will soon drive me crazy.
-
Install Envy, or use LinuxMint. They both simplify the process of enabling proprietary gfx card drivers, i think you'll really like the mintMenu if you like SUSE's slabMenu.
-
NEED help
I just managed to install ATI Catalyst Control Center (the latest one). The resolution of screen is now native 1280 x 800 which is of course great, BUT I have two problems
:
1. Refresh frequency is at 60 Hz and I hardly can work as everything scroll so slow... just like on old CRT monitors. It's not smooth like in Windows. And it was OK before I installed ATI Catalyst Control Center when resolution was in 1024 x 768. It will drive me crazy!
2. I can't change brightness. It's locked at full which really annoys.
UPDATE
I managed to corrupt openSUSE 10.3 after I tried to fix 2D slowdonw in Xorg. After boot I got blue screen I can hardly read anything in screen.
Tomorrow I'll wipe out openSUSE 10.3 and try new Fedora 9.
-
wojwoda have you tried LinuxMint yet? I think you might like it, especially because it would help greatly with the easy configuration of your gfx card. Just use the restricted drivers manager or Envy.
-
Try out Ubuntu or Linux Mint, it should be easier.
-
Wow, a lot of stuff has happened between yesterday and today. I'm currently using the Elyssa beta 042 LiveCD and i'm impressed. It's much better than 032 and fixes a whole slew of problems i was having. It's amazing, i'm gonna be using LinuxMint as my main OS now, see you later Windows....or maybe not!
