I find it useful functionally too. I have an "accesibility" section in compiz settings that I find really useful. I especially like the zoom feature, and the brightness control feature which can change the brightness of individual windows
So if I'm working on a window with a white background, I lower the birghtness for that window. -
ccsm is my best friend

Glassed theme for desktop and login is pretty nice:

I decided to keep it simple. Anyone know how I can make the trashcan disappear without deleting it from my desktop? -
Go to the Desktop tab in Nautilus' Settings and uncheck it.

thanks +1 rep

How do you like Sabayon 4.1? I started my linux rebirth with Sabayon 3.4...
-
What's your opinion on Sabayon? I actually found Sabayon because I got tired of the initial installation of Gentoo.
I really like it. It's Gentoo made easy. I love how there is a graphical installer & package manager (spritz) which Gentoo lacks and uses the portage & the new entropy/equo system. While Spritz isn't that great compared to emerge & equo in installing packages. I like how you are able to see what packages are available instead of using command line. Installing Sabayon is so much faster than Gentoo.
One thing I don't like about Sabayon is the initial app installation process. I just find it time consuming. Since, I removed a lot of unnecessary apps & libraries, it was a long process. I guess what I'm trying to say is I wished there was an easier way to remove unnecessary stuff.
One thing is I can't figure out how to change themes. I have Compiz & emerald installed and is able to see what themes but cant figure out how to activate them.
Lastly, I enjoy compiling stuff. Guess that's what drew me to Gentoo 2 before I fell in love with OSX.
-
Are you running Sabayon in a virtual machine? I was looking at your sig..
-
yes I am, is that why I can't change themes?
-
I don't know about themes, but it changes a lot things around...like using virtual hardware instead of your own. Shouldn't affect themes though I don't think.
-
Sabayon Linux was great when I first used it a long time ago, in 2007 I believe.
-
Why do you say, "was?"
Here's my desktop from my VM Gnome PCLinuxOS 2009.1 that I'm trying out on my MBP. This distro has to be the easiest & fastest installation I have done so far.
-
Sorry, it is great. Pardon my improper past tense usage, as I was talking about me using it in 2007, so I said was, and still can be today.
Nice wallpaper BTW. -
thanks, I love that short anime but sadly the artist hasn't updated new episodes in a long time.
No, need to apologize. I was the one that uninterrupted you.

it shouldn't limit you from changing themes at all. IF you can not change themes the problem is elsewhere -
@directeuphorium, wow, that wallpaper is just so.. big. Where'd you get it?

my second week of using linux. starting to feel a bit more comfortable using it. hopefully will be able to switch completely in the near future.
-
Very sleek. What distro is that? In any case, welcome to the flock! You seem to know your way around things pretty well already. I hope you're finding it all to your liking. Happy hacking!
-
thanks. it's linux mint. i found it to be more user friendly than the other distros.

you've seen the light...that's it, peeking around Saturn there.....
-
hehehe.. reminds me of my desktop a while back that I posted here. Had the whole sci-fi/Halo theme.. I'm such a nerd.
-
The widgets on the right fit the wallpaper theme nicely because of their fonts. Very cool!
No problem friend, and I think I've seen some of that short anime before, but maybe I forgot to finish it.

OSX does have right click now... you can even plug in a $12 mouse from staples and the right click will work just fine.

Slick Master Thomas...I be sprucing up my desktop now.....lol
-
Haha I tried Slackware the other day, funny it includes codecs but doesn't start Xorg by default, lol.
-
yeah, it's boots to the console....have to change /etc/inittab from runlevel 3 to 4 and all is well....little things like that with Slack at first. I only install the first two CD's and use Xfce. But you know what, everything works...webcam, my dedicated sound level keys work, the whole shebang! Well except some of my canon equipment...damn their eyes
-
Yeah that's what I did as well.
Personally I prefer Arch Linux or Ubuntu. -
My Ubuntu 9.04.
Im new to Ubuntu, but its a fun os to mess around with because its free
