Yep... I was filling up that 80 GB with a couple operating systems, virtual machines, etc. And then games and all my media and install files take up a good bit of room.

And what if I want to boot Backtrack 3?

Oh, and then there is the fact that the drive was dying... I'd fix corrupt sectors, and then in a few days, some more data would be corrupted. :p

    Looks intensely awesome. :D

    Enjoy! :)

Looks nice. Not a huge fan of the glossy brown panel, but the colors are nice.

*makes mental note to work on conky soon*

So yesterday I formatted my windows partition and went 100% Crunchbang.

And a couple more hours of tweaking gets us to:

Thanks. The problem I was having is that every time I needed to do something I didn't know how to do in Linux, instead of applying myself to learning, I'd go back and do it in XP. It was like being a vegetarian between meals. I think a lot of people end up going back to windows just because they never force themselves to give it up. You never learn to walk unaided if you have a crutch the whole time. Apologies for the OT digression but I think it bears saying.

First post, just got done installing Ubuntu from Kubuntu, which I didn't really like. Now I'm contemplating changing it once again to a 32 bit system even though I have 4 gigs of ram. I'm not really liking how a lot of normal operations run on it (skype, flash, printer compatibility, browsers, etc). Anyway, here's a quick screenshot:

Got tired of my docks, turned a gnome panel into a pseudo 'dock':

Okay, see that's more what I wanted to do (except I tolerate Gnome Do because it's also a launcher), but I couldn't figure out how to deal with windows. Do you have your open windows displayed on your top panel, or what? If I could come up with a good system, I might ditch the dock and use Launchy, since it's indexing is so awesome. Then again, I do like the extension for Do. :p

Yes, I moved the open windows to the top, moved the 'show desktop' button to the top because it wouldn't get totally transparent, left the trash at the bottom because it will get transparent like the other buttons. I have compositing enabled in Metacity btw, and compiz OFF. It seems much more stable and quicker this way. No prob with windows on the top panel...works pretty great....also, it's nice to hide the bottom panel when surfing, and the browser will take the space if set on maximized, and go back when the dock (panel) is restored. Mi gusta! :)

PS: Docky would vanish every blue moon, and that was annoying me :)

Yeah, Docky does do that. It's Alt+F2 and 'gnome-do' from time to time. Oh well, it works for now... and I'll work up something better at some point.

Moved Ubuntu System Panel Menu to the bottom gnome panel...

@thomas: are using 8.04? curious as to why....I know it's LTS, but 9.04 is pretty decent.

The thing about Banshee that bothers me is the playlist format. It doesn't work with foobar2k and Audacious.

Who be foobar2? :p Actually, I have some annoyances will all of them, but Banshee was the fewist. However, it's sync's _great_ with my iPod, and I keep everything in mp3 format....not those effed up vendor formats... :)

Haha, well I don't have an iPod. :p

foobar2k has been my favorite, most customizable player. I tried to install a build of Banshee with a notifier mod, and it wouldn't open and I get errors trying to install/run.

Banshee doesn't detect ipods in gnome 2.28 due to deprecation of hal, but it works fine outside gnome aka xfce kde
