Back when I was running Ubuntu 11.10 I was getting around 4-5 hours of battery life with my T420s. That's in comparison to the 7-8 hours of battery life doing similar tasks in Windows.

How did you achieve the docks at the bottom? Is it doable in Ubuntu 11.10?

Yeah, for sure. I'm running 11.10 as well ;)

Just download Cairo Dock from the Software Centre and that should be the default theme. There are a bunch of other themes you can use as well.

I really like your Conky! :)

Cinnamon is looking quite nice! I might try it someday. :)

From what I've seem, many of you are using GNOME. I miss old GNOME, though! This is my desktop:

Debian "Sid" + Cinnamon 1.4 (gnome-shell custom from Mint Team) + Cairodock. Using @ idle 240mb RAM, not TOO BAD.

Really nice! I really want to try it. And KDE idle uses much more than that, haha. But I'm using KDE because from the ones I've tested it works best in my laptop. XFCE was OK, but I wasn't quite happy with it, GNOME 3 didn't work well and LXDE I didn't like it. I hope Cinnamon works well with my graphics card, though I don't see why it wouldn't.

Nice wallpaper, by the way. I hope other members keep posting pictures. I love seeing them. That's my favorite thread in Arch's forum, haha. :)

Yes it is Kubuntu 12.04 beta. I was testing KDE 4.8 to see if it had improved since the last time I used it.

Kubuntu 12.04 and Chakra are probably the best KDE distros out right now. OpenSUSE used to be but it seemed too buggy when I used it last -- and I hate yast, lol.

Xubuntu is great if you want Ubuntu's stability without the tablet-based new UI. The gnome-fallback package kinda sucks, and I didn't want to have to use cinnamon. I was using it for a long while, and found it pretty amazing. If you mess with the configs, you can do whatever you want.

Only reason I stopped using it is because there wasn't a "switch focus to previous window" keyboard shortcut. I don't like using my mouse :p

Here is my ubuntu 12.04 with a 1600x900 res T420 and a 30" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1600 resolution.

With 16GB of ram, I could run 8-12 Virtual machines without sweating. I got Min 13 (allocated 3GB) and Win7 (allocated 1 GB) running smoothly in the background.

    Nice...I have a Vostro 3550 13in 1366x768. It has ATI 6490/Intel switchable graphics and 2.3ghz i5 2nd gen. I don't see that screen listed anymore? Just 15.6 in screens. Weird :)
