About the codecs, try opening a media file by clicking on it. It should prompt you to install the codec needed.

k it was compiz when your running ubuntu it makes you install some random drivers to make it work accellerated or something like that
so im ditching ubuntu ive had like 5 problems already with it
im gonna reinstall mandriva as it ran flawlessly with no problems when i used it
but i was wondering which type of drive do i make to store files on
like if i was gonna dual boot id make a swap and 2 ext 3's but what shouldi make just to store files onto?

I use Arch Linux and I have a NTFS partition for my file storage. I don't keep any music or anything on my OS partition.

I have a few pics on my Ubuntu partition, but they're duplicates of those on my Windows partition; I just keep them there so my wallpaper isn't dependent on the Windows partition. I listen to music from my Windows partition, which has the 40GB of free space, so it's the storage.

    I mount as
Replace sdb1 with your own hd and partition, and make a folder in media and replace hd with the name of that folder.

I cannot for the life of me get my bluetooth mouse working in Xubuntu 8.04....Kubuntu 8.04, fine...Zenwalk, fine. Ubuntu 8.04 fine. I won't live without my Kensington BT Mouse. Here we go again....LOL

Maybe a good time to give Arch a go?

Blackbird...I still love that distro, but I kept breaking my xserver, only because of finnicky dependencies of the Nvidia Driver and Zen's new kernel....you really have to comb through every update. I'm still trying to reach a point where I can have a 'deployable' installation of linux where I can run my business programs (work out of my house, Chartered Financial Accountant I think you call me in OZ or UK) in a Virtual Machine and pretty much ditch windows except to boot into a game. Can't have client in the next room waiting and my xserver doesn't come up. Kubuntu 8.04 is deployable right now...I'm just trying to find something with a little more of a cool factor that will work. I do have an affinity nowadays for XFCE whereas before I didn't. Yes, I really am that sick of Windows, and do like Linux that much :) That's my sob story. Round and round she goes, where the distro stops, nobody knows...Plenty of time to experiment as I'm still working out of the Vista side of the machine.....LOL

Yes, Mint KDE is another one that will work "now". But I drawn in by pulse audio and the new 'buntu beta....I think it's gonna come down to a 'buntu in the end, but it's fun trying. I've set up VirtualBox so many times, it really doesn't take me 5-10 minutes anymore...takes 25 minutes for the XP VM install though...same with BT, two command lines maybe a file hack depending on the distro....lol

Yes new page reached, good job.

Im similar, I tend to switch back and forth between distros as updates add different and interesting features to all of them.

Just now I discovered Apturl, check out my "install software with one click thread" in linux forums for more info on that.
