Thats best, Compiz themes are cool though![]()
-
Don't the Compiz themes only modify your VM and not your panels?
-
yeah ive seen some but i dunno im really picky about how my desktop looks like generally like sleek designs
if anyone ever used style xp and azures as their theme on windows and knows if its on linux though id probably love them it was by far my favorite theme ive ever used
EDIT: underoath =p -
Yep no panels, but they change it to be much different.
-
I know, I use Compiz, I was just making sure that I wasn't missing out on anything.
-
is it easy to install a compiz theme?
ive tried to familiarize myself with compiz but i cant seem to get the rain effect to work =[ -
Yup, enable window decor. & set the command to:
Here's some themes.Code:emerald-replace
-
Actually its
-
haha k ima complete noob how do i enable window decor and where do i type emarald --replace?
cause i found a theme and have emerald installed along with compiz fusion -
ok i got ti working i typed that into my konsole but when i close the konsole i lose the theme and for a matter of fact the whole bar its spose to be modifying?
-
You go to the Compiz settings( Right click desktop<change background Then it's the last tab, go to Custom<Preferences.
Then enable Window decor. & go to settings(just click it). Change the command to the one elementp posted. -
k i changed it all should i have to reboot for it to show up?
-
I forgot how to apply the theme you want, sorry
I think you can do it in the install theme window. -
ah yes i have it installed actually but there is no apply button =X
-
Thank you....for some reason hidd was left out of Xubuntu 8.04....just may end up doing that!
-
Just select it(double click) & leave.

-
Cool...but a little cluttered; perhaps due to nothing more than a low resolution.
-
Yeah a higher resolution is something I am putting heavy emphasize on in my purchase of a laptop
Gonna go as high as I can -
Well, for me it's Ubuntu 8.04, back to square one
It's beautiful, just beautiful what they've done with Bluetooth...i.e. set up with Windows eze.....
-
I'm still on my Arch Linux x64 XFCE install. Its the win. I'm sorta wanting to try Ubuntu 8.04 though.
-
Well, here's another one, not cool but being in Florida the open beach views are soothing to the mind and make me want a cold toddy
EDIT: The icon theme is CrashBit from gnome-look.org. I like that one.

Nice! Sticking to Gnome? I installed Arch i686 today.
-
Well, I gave them all a fair shot....I think that's the lesser of all evils....and Ubuntu, what they've done with 8.04 so far is spectacular....it's mankinds best last hope to replace MS on the desktop
EDIT: the system (Ubuntu) just installed 80 more updates....anyone know if we're near a final Hardy Heron? -
Forgot to ask....how was the install, say to an intermediate linux user?
-
The install wasn't too hard, as it was my second time, but the first time wasn't too hard either, just have to follow the Beginner's Guide. I jumped from Ubuntu to Arch. xD
-
How did I miss not trying that one out? Cool. If I didn't have vertical market tax programs to run, it would sure be a lot easier....usb HAS to work in a virtual environment for me or it's useless....but I haven't studied Arch that much in detail. Blackbird did get me interested in it.....I guess I just got dizzy from distro hopping and lited right back where I started out some time ago
-
I don't think I'll be hopping much, maybe in VMs.
-
USB? As in those damned Rainbow USB dongles to authorize your machine? I'm not sure if those will work that well in a virtual environment... I do know that Virtualbox will let USB connectivity of some sorts work though... it may be worth a try. It works great with WindowsXP in general at least.
-
Pitabred....yes, USB works well as far as input devices, printers, scanners, etc in VirtualBox. But you have to set it up right, and NOT use the OSE VirtualBox version out of the repos. Done it many times. File sharing across the Virtual Machine and Ubuntu also works very well.
-
not that low of a resolution
Man I haven't watched naruto in ages, they have a new series now? lol -
Here is my XP Virtual Machine (VB 1.5.6 non free), removes dual boot necessities:

Why don't you have it as seamless mode, its much better.
All you have to do is press ctrl+l I think in virtualbox and it will look like this
-
-
I've done that in the past, found it to be a little flaky maybe? I'll try that again and see how it does

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I'm new to the linux scene. Just installed Ubuntu last night after I finally had some free time after a while. Getting used to everything especially trying to get compiz fusion to do what I want.
-
Good deal Forerunner.....Go Ubu....err, I mean Gators !!
-
Blackbird....once I was running in seamless mode (it really is slick as greased ape ****e) and closed a window, had one window open left, then closed the last window and it crashed. I'm going to try that again and see what happens, maybe an update since then.
-
Welcome to the scene, nice first desktop. Once you learn your way around I sure will see some f'ed up desktops with forerunner marked all over them lol.
Im trying to guess the censored word, but that e in the end isnt helping.
As for virtualbox, what version are you running? Make sure to be running the latest, which currently is 1.5.6 -
@blackbird....spelled backwards....etihs lol Yes, I'm running .1.5.6 now, but when I had that crash some months ago and I think it was an earlier version.....haven't given it another shot yet....will though
-
LOL, was expecting ssa.
So does slick as greased ape ethis smooth or is it grainy and bumpy....I woundnt know, never felt greased ape ethis.. -
Niiiiicccee.
-
Where can I get the non-free Virtual Box?
-
I'd rather not talk about it man, it wasn't pretty....
-
Thomas, right here.. https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHO...tart?ProductRef=innotek-1.5.6-G-F@CDS-CDS_SMI
At the bottom....notice Sun has bought them out. -
the free version is just as good, non-free only has a few advantages such as rdp and usb support
-
I have my dream Arch install going right now. I even got CS:S and 1.6 working.
-
Two things I want to ask; is CS:S running in dx9 mode, and how is it performance?
-
It's running DX9, lags here and there, but totally playable, and I can still reboot into Wind0ze for a hardcore gaming session, but now I don't have to as often.
