You should be able to browse into your ntfs drive via places or, really, from the file manager more generally.
I also want to add that it is a good idea to become familiar with synaptic package manager which is a graphical front end for apt.
System->Admin->Synaptic
It will allow you to run a wider search for packages than add/remove.
This may seem like a pain in the butt instead of downloading a self-installing .exe file, but the nice thing is that linux keeps track of and orders its dependencies to maintain system integrity--whereas in windows you eventually end up in .dll hell as the registry tries to cope with adding and removing programs.

Yeah im able to access the windows partition but im not able to access the music folder under documents and settings..
There are no folders visible in documents and settings when i navigate to it in linux..
