Yea, it's a known issue with intel core 2 duo's (I've allways preferred AMD). Seems to be problematic for a lot of laptop brands, but not so much for MSI. :) I believe it's in part related to power management.

Len, if you reflash with an unmodified older bios, then set everything back to factory standards, it just might clear up. ;) When you did your first flash, you had the option to backup the original bios. Did you save it?

And for cryin' out loud, if you do get it squared away, then feel you just HAVE to tweek the system, do so in small increments!!! Applying multiple tweeks can have opposite/adverse effects, not to mention causing hardware failure.

No sunshine, if you're using bios v1.1 then it's not the one installed when you first fired up your system. Mine had v1.0u (I think), but I flashed it to v1.0z (couldn't find any compelling reason to go past that). Look, just because you can flash the cpu/gpu bios, it is generally NOT a good idea, UNLESS it provides corrections (for known problems) or enhanced support for hardware. If your not having issues, the bios should be left alone.

If its a whiney sound though, you wont be able to fix it, the only time i've seen p series whine fix is by drowning the power components in some material (LOL) but not suggested.

CPU-z registers q9000 as two p7350 processors i think, cant remember (i know it did.)

This has probably been asked a thousand times, but I am getting my first ati card ever and would like to know how to overclock. Is it done through OC programs like evga precision? Or is it done by flashing bios (i hope not, never flashed an ati card before).

Also are ati regular drivers compatible with their mobile cards?, or do I have to find some special mobile-specific drivers like nviida has.

    rep to anyone who answers.

Get the driver from ati's website (the one related to your card , what card you getting ?) then use this http://driverheaven.net/modtool.php to mod it , pretty simple steps really . as for overclocking you can use the built-in overclocking thing , it's called overdrive or you can use this http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/overview.htm

EDIT : no you don't need to flash and the one from ati's website doesn't work straight out of the box when it comes to the mobile counterpart

Latest PC Format January edition has an interesting feature 'Finding Laptop Perfection.

    The article concludes:

'Overall, laptop technology has come in leaps and bounds, and the likes of the MSI GT725 prove that mobile gaming needn't cost a fortune'

'This is one of the main reasons we loved the MSI GT725, and it still stands as one of the most impressive gaming laptops out there'.

After six months it seems I made a sound purchase. I still love it, and can see it lasting at least till the later end of next year.

My main desktop is just being used as a media server now, with very expensive kit inside I never use. Thanks MSI, and thanks to all who contribute to the forum thread. Cheers MSI owners club!

    *not worthy*

lol I thank you all for giving me a few pages of, say, interesting reading material.

Sounds like cat's tutorial might be up, sorry I haven't had a chance to check the main page.

@ Darth Bane. The ATI Overdrive tool included in Catalyst Control Centre is fine for mild/medium overclocks. If you want to really get into overclocking and ATI card, you'll have to find a 3rd party program.

EDIT: P.s. could you post some pics of the touchpad protectors? I really wanna know what they look like...

And I'll write the cleaning tutorial for the 1722 over my 3 weeks off work, then post it when I get back.

I have a stupid question for you guys. I was looking at the specs for our laptop and noticed that it says only supports up to 4GB memory. I now have windows 7 64-bit and was wondering if I can actually upgrade my RAM past 4GB?

I have not opened up the machine to see how many slots it has, but I would not mind upgrading to 6GB or 8GB if possible.

One of the main reasons is Photoshop 64-bit, but i'm sure there will be more benefits.

    Thanks!

Just played the Dirt 2 Demo for a bit. It looks Beautiful. I have it at 1680x1050, high, and 4x MSAA. I didn't measure the FPS, but it was flawless at those settings. It'll be a while til we have to turn any game down to low on this beast.

    Edit: FPS right around 30

I use Photoshop CS4 a lot and can't say I notice any problems with only 4 gig. So long as I don't go crazy although I often have 3DS Max and so on open at the same time.

I'm a full time proffesional games illustrator (Sid Meiers Pirates, Harry Potter, Lego, etc :) ( http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2md2s68&s=6 typical example)and work with an A5 wide WACOM pad (at home, A4 at work)and never have lag or slow down on large files, so I guess you need to consider if you'll really notice the benefit.

At any rate from a professional point of view I just can't rate the MSI highly enough straight out of the box, it's good for just about any graphics job.

You using the 9.12 drivers yet? From what i've read on the ATI/AMD forums a lot of people with W7 64 and 4000 series cards are having issues?
