Crap, now I'm gonna want to sell my 725 and buy a 729.

Pointless really, there gna perform EXACTLY the same
Believe me.
MSI MAKE A DAM SLI MACHINE ALREADY! -
Hi, I just got a MSI GT275-74 and I have read the forums several times now.
For all the people that overclocked their ram to 800 mhz and processor turbo mode to 2.9/3.1 did you have to flash your bios and update it, and if you did could you help me with the steps.
Also when i overclocked my gpu by 50hz each I BSOD on Cryostasis I was wondering if overclocked the ram to 800mhz would fix that.
Here is something I took of Cryostasis, such an eerie game
p.s. any good screenshot programs? -
Hey mark, welcome aboard!
To do this, you need to go to your bios, go to advanced, press fn+insert to access the advanced options.
You then will want to set overclock to 24%, and ram to 667 Mhz (not overclock)
Then you will want prime95 and to read about its usage so that you can test your system is stable enough to be used without damage. -
I thought it was Alt+Ins..... not wanting to tread on anyones feet
-
There is a GX720 on US ebay that looks the same as the GT 725, it has a 2.53gh quad core, 500 mb 7200 hdd, and an nvidia 9600. There is also a 2 core version with a 2.8gh duo core. B........ . I hate it when that happens, I haven't even got mine yet and already it's been superseeted.
-
Oops! Im not sure :S lol, either way one of us is right haha.
Good spot if it is tho! -
You getting gt725 aren't you?
In that case (no offense to nvidia) that graphics card is a bug in comparison to the 4850
-
Yep, just checking out the new models that seem to be popping up. What I am pissed off about is the 2.53gh quad. Although the 2 in ebay I mentioned seem to be a bit strange. I think people are getting barebones and building thier own there.
There is the GT727 selling in South Africa, for alsmost $4000 aus. and I thought we got ripped off here on price. It's pretty much the same machine but has a 500gb hdd and ddr3 ram. Interesting it's out in South Africa before the states.
Edited to add that also does not have the 1920x1200 screen, it has the 1680x1050. -

I like ATITool on my main because it allows me to set profiles so that my superhot 8800GTX is downclocked on normal operations and overclocked when getting into games.
I see that CCC (or .. something) does that automatically now, so that's cool!
Edit: Actually, I see that the mem overclock is locked at 900 and core at 550. Should it be possible to go above that?
Is it possible to lock the overclock to the "gaming mode" or does that only affect screen settings? -
ok could you give me a brief run down on how to use prime95 i basically would like to oc to 2.9/31 with 800 mhz ram and 550/900 gpu. I appreciate the help on the turbo mode thing though. How safe is it to oc to 800 mhz on ram, I thought i read it makes your gpu more stable
-
Ram wont work with that clock on the CPU (You wont notice performance difference anyway) but cpu is alot more powerfuller, update to the latest GPU driver first and you can use the ATI overdrive from there, i will post tutorials when i return home
-
I installed the 9.4 DNA CCC. after overdrive crashed 3dmark on anything but stock, but its still hapening. Any ideas?
-
I have this as well, im assuming this to be a hardware issue but im not sure if it is prehaps set up like this?
Im gna have tech look at it i think, see if its a problem with the GPU, i get freeze ups after long periods of game play now also, ive tried most the released drivers although win7 was really stable with official releases... -
Mines 110% stable on standard clocks. But soon as i try to increase them via overdrive it crashes 3dmark. I've not played a game with it at a increased clocks as if i cant even get the game to run a benchmark program i wouldn't want to risk it.
I wonder if it would need a bios update? -
You could try it, 540 and 890 should work?
-
i tried it with +10 on both and still nothing. Even the slightest increase causes 3dmark to fail not 10secs into the first test.
-
Hmm, what drivers are you using foxdie? And what is your model number? Sounds like we are having faults with the 4850.
Are you getting a direct blah blah blah error on 3dmark? -
its happen on every driver i've tried, from factory to 9.6. Then from Factory CCC to 9.4DNA CCC. I have 725-087uk
-
Try an original set of drivers? Maybe 8.56, i can get up to the last stage of 3dmark06 before it artifacts out and tdr recovers the display :/ I expect the clocks to be pushed to 550/900 since everyone elses can lol.
Maybe warrenty it? after all overdrive is a feature of the machine although they could just say its overclocking....
Do you get any errors? -
Yeah, always crashes about 5-10secs into the first test. Then i get a windows message saying something about the device failing to respond.
-
Wow, I feel lucky now. Through 3 drivers and 2 BIOS flashes I have always been able to OC to 550/900, although I don't leave it all the time - I have had no problems running 3dMark06 and some games. The only problem I've had is trying a 24% turbo. At 20% I'm stable, but at 24% GTA IV crashes and sometimes BSODs. I've run CPU stress tests without problems, so it must be an issue with the memory going up to 827, although that doesn't seem like it should cause problems...
-
Im getting 10.5k 3dmarks at turbo on standard gpu clocks so im not fussed with RMA'ing over an extra 2-300 points. which will probably be 1-2fps

What's the safe highest temp for the CPU?
-
100C is max, safe zone i would say is <80 on the CPU, i can hit 11k on 06 no problem, but i was planning on breaking an easy 12k barrier so i do want the GPU fixed.
You should be happy niel, we want your clocks! -
I just ran 3dmark 06 got 9.8 without turbo and got 9.6 with 2.9 turbo now ccc is saying my clocks for my gpu are 250 and my memory clock is 200?
dude i need to do a bios update to make stable? cause im a lil annnoyed -
No haha, mark, modern tech downclocks both CPU and GPU to extend component life time, as well as battery life, what you see here is the result of your machine downclocking itself when the components are not in use.
Its fine and your score is fine also, you may want to update drivers to get a bit more kick from the GPU, what model of machine do you have? -
i have a 75-74 us and im using 9.6 cat, but im saying there is no dif between 2.4 and 2.9 for me on 3dmark06, and i kept bsod on 2.9 several times last night, i left my laptop off all night and it has yet to do it
-
Is it a p8400/8600? Sounds like its being pushed to 24% overclock without you reducing the ram speed, you need to go to advanced bios options and set ram 667 if you want to max out CPU clock.
Also have Hardware monitor open to check temps. -
i have a p8600 and ram is default 677 also i set it to 20% which is 2.9 24 is 3.1 16 is 2.77
-
20% oc turbo is 3.03ghz for me
-
you may have the 2.5 ghz model mine is 2.4
-
now at 2.9 ghz as soon as i hit turbo it just locks my computer and i have to power it off with the power button.
-
Ram needs scaling down, you need to change it to 667mhz.
-
im telling you it is at 667 its default like that
-
Its normally default at 800MHz? Otherwise it shouldnt be bsodding.
-
thanks for the reply
ok..
cuz you know I was looking thru some benchmarks and I wasnt too impressed with the Q9000, tho I know benchmarks aren't everything.
Especially with most games not even utilizing all 4 cores, I started regretting ordering the quad core version heh.
Even had me thinking of recalling the order ;p
I have been out of the PC world for a while since I joined the navy, simply no time enough, so I admit I am pretty clueless on the developments of today's CPU's ;p
ing sick of my xbox though. and I NEED to game on sea. or i turn crazy of boredom :]
I know GPU > CPU though, and I know that GPU is good.
Guess I'll stick with the order then. Can't wait to try it out.. Back on land in 2.5 weeks after 5.5 months of anti piracy THANK GODDDD
what games you playing on it cat? and how do they run?
will be playing games like drakensang, fallout3, bioshock 1/2, dawn of war 2, COD4, and that yanks vs soviets RTS game (forgot name)
thanks mate :] -
Fallout 3, bioshock and cod 5 ive played that match you list, fluent, max detail, aa always on
What type of benchmarks for q9000 were you looking at?
I believe its one of the best cores ive ever had the pleasure of using
-
Well mine is at 677 and its still bsod at 2.9
-
Hmm ok, this is odd, but never give up!
so what activities are you doing when it bsods? or are you just activating turbo button?
Can you turn turbo to the lowest? See if its ok with that? If not we may need to update the bios.
We will crack this open mark dont worry! -

Id put it at 5th on that list, concidering desktop processors in notebooks are rare and stupid ! Take that cruel world.
Q9000 is great core, you wont regret it, let me tell you that.
I havent touched this blue ray drive once :O heck i dont know what a blue ray looks like, because, ive never used one

oops thought it didnt stick. haha.
yeah i know i barely ever watch movies on my laptop, let alone buy a blue ray disk.
I see C2Q9000 in your sig, that any difference?
any that turbo button, does it actually work or?
thanks for hearing me
-
I play fallout 3 and cod 4 on 1920x1200 (native res) at highest settings and it runs fine. also, were you thinking of World In Conflict (yanks vs soviets rts)?
-
As far as I know, the Quad Core CPU doesn't clock as high when you push the turbo button, but don't worry about recalling your order, that is going to be one beast of a laptop, of that i can gaurantee you
.
Also, I'm wondering if my turbo button is actually increasing the CPU clock on mine. In the system properties, and in speed fan, it still registers as 2.4ghz. Is that what is supposed to happen? -
Waiting, waiting, waiting

Is anyone else having terrible wireless problems with their 725? I have been trying to fix this forever, and I just can't figure out what is wrong, but never had this problem with any other computer. I have two other machines connecting fine, but they are XP machines.
Router is linksys wrt54g2 if that helps any. I used to know how to log in to the router settings but I forgot how to do that...
This may be in the wrong forum and may have nothing to do with the 725 itself, but no other machine has given me so much wireless grief!
The built in "Identifying the problem" never works, all it does is just stall on me. What happens lately is that it will show that it's connected, but web browsers act like there's no connection. The signal strength is full, so that's not the problem.
At one point it used to say it has conflicting connections, like it's trying to connect to two different wireless connections. If none of you guys can help, could ya point me in the right direction?
Thanks! -
Sounds like your not getting past the firewall. Have you entered the wpa key, I think it's called that.
-
My lappy still shows as having left the US only, that was 4 days ago, it was sent Express mail service "EMS". I just read on a forum that to Australia EMS is worse than PMS, god help me.
