nah the stock thermal paste will be better for that, because theres about a 5mm gap between the RAM and heatsink.

Didn't we just finish saying use google and the search feature before posting? Surely we did. It would be quicker too.

I use ATI tray tool with Vista. You can't control fans with it, but that's because pretty much only Dell and Sager have controllable fans.

9.8 works fine for me. I was playing Race Driver Grid for about half an hour online just then, with no noticable lag or other issues. Your may very well be different though. You probably won't find the 9.7 drivers on the ATI site now that the 9.8s are out. I can host them for you if you want and if you find a place to host. They're obviously too big to post here.

often the milisecond lag every few seconds is really a Disc access thing 80% of the time. I would turn of the windows indexing service, search service, and evaluate what background programs are running (virus scanners set to aggressive detection) then try out the game if it disappears its not the driver just too much Disc accessing. (some programs make the cpu wait till they get the info they want from the disc before freeing the processor to do other things) Spyware and trojans can also cause this.

might want to look at black vipers gaming services configuration a go (just be careful with some of his suggestions) and remove and disable all but the necessary stuff to run your OS (boot up programs, program helpers, crapware, and useless upgraders like java and adobe quickstart etc)

I followed that guide I notice I still have upward 70 proccesses at any given time, 30% ram usage, I really have a feeling its the drivers. Or something, I didnt get the 9.8 drivers from the website I got them from someone elses link, so anything else before I redo the drivers?

type software explorer into the search tab in vista/windows 7

then delete / disable all you want.

For services youll have to do a bit more research on which ones you can disable. indexing/gadgets is a good start

go into tools , uninstall , there you will see a long list of installed programs on ur pc .. scroll down and look for ccc-utility64 bla bla .. uninstall all ccc related thingy and installed the new one from the 9.8 you've modded :)
that little prog is awesome .. been using it for a long time now no issues whatsoever , you can even use it to tweak ur startup prog , registry and all ..

EDIT - i did a clean installed on w7 last night .. so far no driver crashing , going out to look for some thermal paste (if i can get some)

hrmm. well run spybot and make sure ya have no spyware/adware. then if all else fails uninstall ati. run ccleaner or reg cleaner pro and wipe all traces of ati stuff and do a fresh install. I had a problem with 9.7's it killed my Catalyst control center. so I installed MSI's catalyst then i just installed the display driver from the cat 9.7's and all has been rosy since. I am gonna stab at the 9.8's tomorrow.

70 processes is a lil above normal but it also depends on what ya have listed to run. 30% ram is actually fairly good for 70 processes.

My boot up list is synaptics driver, the media keys thing, avira, and zone alarm and CCC and ati tool (just for the ingame FPS, temps, and clock monitoring while i play)
everything else i take off the list

i got rid of the toshiba bluetooth thingy software takes too much space (bluetooth works fine without it installed) , itunes crap you can disable , like "bonjour" , etc etc unless you use that thing .. like i said try the services thing .. highlight em and you will see their purposes and stuff .. (create a system restore point so that you can go back if you F-up )

In my start-up i got avira , ccc , realtek control panel and system control manager .. that's all

Red works gloriously by the way, it has tints of blue in it and a beaut purple is produced.

    First of all download

    http://www.codegazer.com/vistaglazz/

Follow this guide to patching your system.

    http://st.deviantart.com/minish/main/blank.png

Then download the theme (or others from that website :) )

    http://steel89.deviantart.com/art/SteelFlash-Final-100k-92817496

Follow the troublesome instructions to install it to your vista machine. (must be aero enabled for visuals to really stand out)

    MUST PUT IN FONTS.

Any questions ask but i shall be a bit slow today.

Enjoy having vista look as good if not better then win 7 lol.

ok its my turn to ask for help.
Everytime I install the full catalyst package for 9.7 or 9.8 i lose CCC completely.
i also install the avivo encoder. I would like to use the new CCC and not the old MSI one from 9.4(9.3? 9.2?) any clue as to what i did wrong?
I did not use mobility modder to alter these. I unistalled all ati stuff first wiped with drive cleaner pro after reboot. then installed the 9.8 video driver installs but the CCC doesn't
(made sure c:\program files\ati and ati technologies were deleted too)

I am not sure exactly, honestly you should just do a clean uninstall , restart driver cleaner pro, wipe reg, then use mobility modder to mod the new 9.8 drivers and install it like that, it is garunteed to get you ccc on there
