Yeah, after successfully completing a turbo run and posting it, I just froze up on a non-turbo run, with the undervolt still off... I honestly did not have these issues with 9.7, but didn't run the test nearly as much.

I need to test it on just 2 cores then, I have a feeling that it really is multicore optimized, even though clockspeed was good at just 2.13ghz.

My RE5 test stops at 94.1% and won't respond. It doesn't lock up the whole thing, but i have to close it out.

Seems to be a common problem on this benchmark. I'm thinking about reverting to 9.7's and seeing if it goes away. What drivers are you using?

Try the 9.8 HOTFIX drivers (not normal 9.8), they fixed the crashing for me. Its not fixed ALL the bugs with RE5(flickering shadows), but a fair number of them.

The primary GPU or the mobo have commited suicide :( Am having to wait on afresh pair of 4850s (the M17 uses a primary and a secondary; the secondary uses a cut connector, so I cant use one temporarily, Im guessing the cut part are the parts of the card which link directly to display output) to find out exactly which, a pair should be arriving this week.

Can't wait, I actually love my M17 for what it cost me, its much less dissapointing than the amiloXi 1546 I spent £1100 on!

I dont think its related to the heat generated; I think its a simple case if it was the master GPU that was defective, then it was out of my hands and was effectively a time bomb.

Thats sad to hear. I've got a XPS M1710 atm that I also use. In the last 3 months, I've had DELL out 4 times to replace the 7900GTX!!! FRUSTRATING!!! If Alienware use DELLs service, you should be just fine. Thats the best thing about DELL I think.

Just been playing GRID online for a while, no "the display driver has stopped working and has recovered". Thanks goodness it was just a problem with the 9.7 drivers and not hardware!

Seeing as this thread is burning out a little Ill ask a little question if i may. You have the same spec 725 as me but my 3dmark06 score is about 250/300 less than yours. Is that score with the gpu overclocked?

Yes I OCed my 4850 to 545/895 (as 3dmark06 would crash if I OCed all the way to 550/900).

Edit: Also Dead2th3world what happened to your 725??

I might give it a go .. or change my current one from 667 to 800 as the stock ram isn't friendly when it comes to OC

Mine crashed even on 667 :( The only thing that is "weak" about the 725 is the ram ..

    EDIT Is there any significant gain in performance in DDR2 CL4 (4-4-4-12) over DDR2 CL5 ( 5-5-5-18 ) ?

Decreasing the latency times would slightly quicken the RAM.

If the bluescreen is caused by a hardware fault, more specifically, the RAM, then yes, buying new RAM would fix the problem.

    DDR2 CL4 (4-4-4-12) 800mhz is £180
    DDR2 CL5 (5-5-5-18) 800mhz is ONLY £42
    And 8gb kit is £310.49

Don't know which to get now .. might go for the cl4 ones

    Which flashing screen lenarasss?

If your refering to my external vga monitor, i sorted the grounding issues with a 2 pin extention cord, (strangely it works) but i dont want to go ahead and buy a two pin adapter as i've had a laptop fry as the result of doing that :S.

Just reformatted with Windows 7 64bit last night. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit. First of all, the keyboard isn't working properly. For example, when i press the \ key, this: # show up. So when I press # key, this: £ shows up. Also, my CAD program isn't working, network drives took a long time to get working, and my databases don't connect to the server! This OS so far is frustrating me.

The joys of a fresh OS install hey, some things need ironing, some dont, i feel your pain.

Check regional settings for keyboard as well as the language bar, i believe keyboard functions can change depending on how the OS is setup (language-region wise)

As for the other errors, i hope you get them sorted ^^

Do you think CAD is having problems with the 64bit side of the OS?

As for the screen ahl, im pretty much 80% sure the models are equip with glossy screens.

That will be because if im not mistaken the different spec 725's have different screens. I have the quad core with the 1920 -1200 res screen and its matte but im sure others with diffent specs may have the glossy. As for the 729 mate, im not sure

With the keyboard, when I was installing I accidentally clicked english UK, but I can't change the default to US. Reformat will fix that. Databases now work after a little more fiddling. Still doesn't change the fact that office 2007 sucks.

The same thing happened with the CAD program after updating to Vista from XP, but they released a patch. That patch doesn't work with w7 though. I really don't wanna go back to Vista after this though. And where has the Add Hardware in control panel dissapeared to???

To add a device go into "devices and printers" . As for the keyboard thingy i always choose "Extended UK" , that works fine for me no issues at all .. so far i've formatted and installed it loads of times without issues .. gonna do it again when i get my 725 back , my free RTM version is already on a DVD waiting :D

PS . i think you change change the layout without formatting .. i'll check that out

EDIT : go into "appearance and perso ", "ease of access" , "make the keyboard easier ...." then scroll down and click on "Add a Dvorak ...." and change whatever you want from the pop up window .. et voila ! hope that helps

Hey rux, it was the early uk quad release known as the Advent 6555, and is going to be re-released as the 7555 gx? i believe, its listed now on the pcworld website.

As for the keyboard, you can definately change region and keyboard layout without formatting, i believe there are options linked with the language bar as i've changed them myself once before.

    Sorry for DP

What you can do is open task manager in the process' tab, and look for a process that keeps opening and closing or looking at your process count to confirm its opening, etc (60-61-60), then try and track down the process.

the 7555 gx looks ok, but cannot compare with the GT725/729 especially since it has less hard disc space and no Blu-Ray. The build quality, having owned an Advent a few years ago, isn't that great. Even value for money, the MSI is still worth stoking up the extra £200!

Still if you want a sub £1000 gaming notebook it's not so bad I guess.

Its an MSI machine to be fair, so build quality doesnt matter, and i can confirm it also, the machine is crazy good though, regardless of blueray and hdd space, it will come down to about 700 pound most likely.

Altho mine did come with blueray, and a smaller hd then that model.

It was a very sad day yesterday :( I was forced to delete w7 and put Vista back on...

I emailed the makers of the CAD program and they said "Windows 7 hasn't been released yet. When it is, we'll test it to ensure compatibility with our program". Idiots. Why is everyfreakinthing else compatible with windows 7 and your program isn't?

Doens't matter, I'll just have to buy it when it comes out... Waiting...
