Just a thought, and something to try first...... did you try a CMOS/bios sys reset, by unplugging, removing the battery for 30 sec or so, replacing battery, and replugging in the PA?

    Good Luck!

    :)

I think you will LIKE! Especially given the spec's..... the SSD, and 90% color gamut screen...... NICE! That screen has been tempting me from the beginning, and may be my next upgrade.

    *FIXED*

Sry didnt mean to sound like that :)

I put the win 7 on a usb stick, and thank god my MSI understood that it should boot from that. I just booted the installation, tried repair but couldnt find any disc (LOL) So I just rebooted it from the win installation and then I could finally push DEL to enter the boot order and fix it! Now my comp is working again :)

Im not quite sure where to put this information but I figured enough people looked through here to get me some information.

I want to buy the GT780DXR-446US, however in the past few days ive been reading alot about the keyboard issues and crappy mic. I could really care less about the mic but the keyboard is a big issue to me. Im paying a lot of money for it to be functional. Could anyone share some insight on if this is a lingering issue or if there is a quick fix for it.

Also wondering, if anyone know of any retailers selling this laptop that offer interest free financing for maybe 1 to 2 years? Thanks for any information.

There is no problem with the keyboard anymore, there is only a problem with getting used to it ;)

The suggestions of dragon290513 and others, to add a FAQ column to the thread's lead (No. #1) post would be beneficial..... especially for topics that have been covered over-and-over again. If you have any ideas of 'real' questions to add, with 'real' solutions, please PM me. Also, please provide links to the posted solutions of topics already covered. This will be helpful, as it is very timely sifting through the volumes of post.

The same applies for ideas and suggestions to the 'How To's' column.

    Thank in advance!

    :)

I see on the different vendors websites that they offer screen replacement options for the GT 780DXR but none of the options are for a 120hz 3D screen, is there a reason for this omission? Are they physically not compatible or is it just a choice thing? I think that would have been an option I would have paid a couple of hundred dollars extra to just to play around with.

Data cable pin count = resolution able to achieve
    30 pin = 768p 60 hz
    40 pin = 1080p 60hz, 768p 120hz (68x/78x series have this)
    50 pin = 1080p 120hz

Any of the dealers listed in post #1 of this thread.

    GT783-625

    Gt783-658

Configure your system from each dealer and see where the best deal for you is from.

Besides price, there's service and support plus customer satisfaction.

In the main forum "what notebook should I get", I asked if I could get this notebook (the GT780) without the GPU installed and was told I can't. My main reason was battery life and that I do not have a big use for it, I only need the Intel 3000 graphics for my needs.

So if I was still to get this computer, are there enough things that I could do so that I was getting 4-5 hours of battery life? This notebook may not be the most suited for a non-gamer like me but there are too many other things that I want. Here is how it would most likely be used:

    75% - work, web browsing
    15% - personal, watching dvd's, music...
    10% - work, video encoding

The Processor is equiped with the Intel HD 3000 Graphics but you are unable to use it on the MSI laptop. I would say this laptop is not for you but if you do get the GT780 you could always underclock your GPU and attempt to lower volts if you want to save some battery power :D

The GX780 may be the model that would best suit your needs with NVIDIA Optimus switching graphics but you may have difficulty finding one in the US because it was discontinued there. It has a GT555M discrete graphics card that switches to the Intel GMA3000 for longer battery life when not doing graphics intense work.

There may be something new that fits your needs shown at CES 2012,that starts today in Vegas, but Ivy Bridge CPUs with series 7 chipsets powered notebooks may not be available until April.

    Thanks for the picture!!

Would you be able to tell us if the heatsink module in your GT783 is different from the ones in the GT780R (with the gtx560)? Maybe another picture of it? :D
I want to know the heatsink compatibility in case I want to upgrade the gfx card.

    Thanks again!

with shipping tax and everything + discount, around 2900.00 USD

Saved up for quite a bit!!! But its worth it :D
plus, being a Caribbean medical student, I have to move alot for rotations so
laptop was the right way to go.

Had an alienware m14x in Sept, returned it after 2 months, nope not 30 days, 2 months because they replaced it twice due to motherboard failure, then, returning it with different cpu and ram. So I basically yelled at them until they decided to return my money.

MSI, I'm banking on you to pull through with this one.

Still haven't made made up my mind on which setup i want to buy from gentech yet, but i have a question. When the warranty runs out on the laptop, where can you get parts for the msi laptops? The only thing i can really find on google is rkcomputers.....if it's something simple to fix i don't really want to have to send it off to get it fixed. (yes i know i'm planning ahead, but if i spend 2000+, i wanna keep it awhile. ;) )

    Thanks guys. :)

    Hey guys!

Someone broke into my house just before Xmas and stole a lot of my property, including my Alienware M15x...I know, I shoulda had an alarm -_-, but live and let learn.

The good news is that my insurance company is sending me a check for my laptop replacement....2700 dollars. I figure I can put a few hundred on that and work with a 3000 dollar budget to replace my old baby. As most of you already know, the M15x is no longer in production, so I am in the market for a beast.

I have heard a lot of you say the keyboard issue has been fixed....but the responses are iffy. Have they fixed the sensitivity of the keypresses or have most of you just "learned" to hit the keys with force and accuracy to make them register? I apologize for the redundancy, but I play a lot of online FPS and sometimes I am not thinking of hitting buttons firmly, but more quickly.

I also enjoy taking my laptop to a coffee shop once in a while. Can any of you comment if you feel weird taking a beast of a laptop out in public? Does it look WAY too big or can you blend in with all the other hipsters with their ipads and such?

I see there is accidental warranty....can anyone comment on what that would cover, such as water damage?

Has the mic issue been fixed or are you forced to do the modification mentioned earlier in this thread to fix it?

Im deciding between MSI, alienware, asus or falcon northwest and any help would be appreciated!

So is the connection for 50 pin cable on the motherboard or on the graphics card. If its on the graphics card does the new MSI 580m card or Clevo 580m have a 50 pin connector?

should i buy a new high end laptop? i know all these new hardwares and gpu are coming out recently, but im really looking forward to buy a new laptop to do gaming and 3d rendering.. but im not patient at all and my actual pc is not working for me anymore. how long will it take to companies like MSI introduce all these new gpu and processors to their laptops? or other companies??!

    What's your budget?

    There's always something new coming!

    Buy when you need.

Notebooks with IVY BRIDGE CPUs and Series 7 Chipsets....probably in April.

NVIDIA GTX6xxM GPUs no announcement yet but may be further away than IB CPUs.

The 1st IB gaming notebooks may have the same GPUs that are in present notebooks.

my budget is around 1700 usd, so my original plan was to buy a gt780dx, but im getting second thoughts because of all the new stuff coming soon..

but as you said, there's always something new coming.

you think its alright to buy this laptop right now and not wait for msi to release a new one? and are the prices elevating to much over my budget?

I don't get it...in my humble opinion..these are important and totally legitimate concerns...these are well known issues with this laptop...and if one is going to spend 2-3K...I don't see anything wrong with inquiring about the keyboard/mic issues...I know I did...I guess I'm just a bit confused with your response...

The GT780DX-406 has a $100 rebate and with a cash discount you're at about $1400 for the stock unit.

I'd recommend a wireless card upgrade.

Visit all the dealers listed in post #1 and configure your system.

I see 1 dealer offering a free 4gb memory upgrade.

    Find your best deal.

3 year MSI warranty with registration.

If you're handy with notebooks and have your own Windows 7 key then a barebones 1761 might be a good choice with either a GTX570M or GTX580M.

More stock parts may need upgrading by yourself or your dealer.

Again check with all the dealers before making your final choice.

I see this rebate a little suspicious, like if they were going to release something new, and are trying to get rid of the gt780 406... hate when this happens! all the questions with no answers! lol
anyways thanks for the info ill be buying it pretty soon since i am in desperate need of a powerfull laptop. ill be upgrading the processor since it is what makes the 3d rendering faster.

    thanks!

Before I bought my first GTX780 which I replaced with a GT780DX I had a face to face conversation with the good people at the MSI notebook service center here in Seoul.

The info I received was that in GT780 models the shiny "U" shaped plastic piece that surrounds the keyboard on 3 sides wasn't secured down adequately in some units thusly the keyboard was not secure on 3 sides.

The issue is largely non-existant in DX models due to better method of securing the "U" shaped plastic piece at the factory.I'm sure that there are still some units that don't get assembled 100% correctly in the factory and the number falls within acceptable standards.

If your "U" shaped plastic is 100% secure and the screws on the bottom of the unit and top of the keyboard that hold down the keyboard are tight then your keyboad should be fine unless you expect a notebook keyboard to perform better than it's made to.Your typing speed and style may not be suited well to all keyboards.

Check the Asus threads in forums sometime and really see what keyboad issues are

I have no idea what the mic issue is other than improper settings in the Realtek Audio Manager and of course the platic piece inside the LCD frame blocking the mic holes.Anyone have a guess why MSI put the plastic piece there?

People with issues are vocal compared to the silent majority with no issues.

Pilot error is always a possibility in all reported problems.
