    @xMAR99

You had posted a link to the burn recovery software somewhere earlier in this thread. I found the post, but the mediafire link is no longer valid. Can you repost please?

    Thanks

Keep in mind that the MIR amounts to an American Express card, and must be used by a vendor excepting this.

Also, with your choice of the BFN 1103N, consider paying a little extra for the 3-wire antenna mod. This wireless card will not perform to full spec without the 3rd antenna. Otherwise, save yourself a little money, and just go with the 1102N card.

As far as SSD vs. backpack, that would be a matter of which you consider most important. The SSD will vastly improve your system, but much more costly. If this is your choice, I would consider the new SATA III's by Intel or Samsung. The Everki backpack you are looking at is a good fit for the GT780/783.

    :)

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll have to go ahead and pay for that 3rd antenna, I've heard far to many complaints about the standard wireless card to risk ruining my online gaming experience.

Now If I were to get a SSD, Im not sure which size of a SSD I would need. Obviously the bigger the storage the better but the cost also raises with that.

Besides having my Operating System and Games on the SSD do I really need to have anything else on there that would benefit from the speed of the SSD?

Based on my experience, I would have a hard time buying an SSD smaller than 120GB.

Probably all you want on it is the OS and game files. Given the size of some recent games, that can get very big, very quickly. I think with a 64GB you'll be spending your life managing your space on that drive. 120 is probably fine, but I'm tempted to hang tight until the 240's becomes more reasonably priced (which I think is going to happen pretty quickly now).

As far as an HDD caddy, I have seen 'yes' & 'no', and some DX models were shipped with simply a rubber block wedge for the second drive. Anyhow, HDD caddys are available..... check with your reseller. Also, why not open up that 2nd bay, and give it a 'look-see'. ;)

Installing an SSD or second HDD will not void your warranty. SSD installation is simple and strait-forward. Some have experienced issues of the system not recognizing the SSD, and trying to install the OS to the secondary HDD. To avoid this I would recommend first insuring bios is AHCI, and that the SSD is properly recognized..... then installing the OS solely to the SSD with no other HDD's installed. Once the OS is in place, then go back and install your secondary drive. There are several tutorials within this thread and the forum.

Also, try 'Google' search..... the forum search has always been lame.

    :)

Well as far as your gaming experience, it extends beyond your wireless card. With an awesome wireless card, you'll want to consider an awesome router and ISP..... your entire home network! ;)

120GB+ will be fine for a primary SSD. Dedicate the OS, system, security, and maintenance software to the primary SSD. All games, pics, docs, videos, music, and other multimedia, etc., can go to the secondary HDD.

    :)

Yeah I'll take a look. Are the HD bays accessible under the keyboard or from the bottom? I'm not having much luck finding detailed hardware assembly info.

Edit: Nevermind, youtube helped me. It looks like the bottom has to come off, which of course is protected by the titanium warranty sticker. It may be stupid, but I'm not really interested in throwing away my warranty to save 50 bucks having someone else install it. I know I could do this probably in 15 minutes and could likely argue my way around the sticker if I had to, but I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

Breaking the seal is not going to void your warranty.

US consumers are protected by the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act.

The act was originally intended for automobiles but it applies to all products.

Things you add yourself are not covered by the warranty and any damage caused to warranty parts by your parts are not covered.

If you're still worried then take a thin blade and peel the sticker off starting in 1 corner;put it on when you may need service.

With most new SATA 3 6 gb/s SSDs the 240GB is the sweet spot for read and write performance.

Choose your SSD carefully because there's great differences between them.

It might be worth a bit of a wait to see what the new Intel 520 series can do and I understand that they will have a very good warranty.

I've been a happy OCZ guy but I'm not glued to them.

    I'm not in the US.

Like I said, if it came down to it, I needed a warranty claim, and they even said anything, I'm sure I could talk my way out of it. I mean .. it's a sticker. Stickers rub off, right?

I bet you could make a fortune making and selling warranty stickers to paranoid morons like me :)

    Re: keyboard issue:

Unfortunately I believe this is only partially correct. There are two separate major issues with keyboards:

    1) poor attachment of keyboard frame to laptop frame that leads to flex,

    2) poor design of individual keys that leads to keystrokes not being registered.

Issue 1 has indeed been fixed and should not be happening in new machines, unless one buys from a stock clearance.

Issue 2, however, is still around. Here (and two posts below) is a very detailed explanation of what is happening. (My hypotheses about why it is happening may be way off, but the fact is that the keyboard fails to register many keystrokes, and that is terrible.) Here is an active thread dedicated specifically to that issue.

I've encountered 2 types of stickers on same models and 2 notebooks had stickers inside on the GPU heatsink screws.

Type 1 stays intact when peeled off.

Type 2 breaks into pieces when peeled off.

My newest MSI GT780DX arrived with a broken seal.

It had a free memory upgrade from the dealer.

The MSI notebook service center here in Seoul replaced the control bar in my GT780DX because of a bubble in the plastic even though I had no sticker on the bottom at all.

I've replaced drives and memory modules, repasted CPU and GPU,removed the plastic piece blocking the mic holes, upgraded my wireless card and added a 3rd antenna.

I've installed Windows 7 and all drivers/software on a few HDDs and SSDs

Nothing To Fear But Fear Itself

LOL,I'll put this sticker on ebay.

I would like to change the preinstalled os primary drive to the secondary and install os again into my SSD

Take a look at the video real close.... the guy is just barely pushing the button. That's ridiculous!!! It's not a capacitive keyboard. The computer doesn't have ESP to sense what key you want it to register. If you don't push the key, it's not going to work!

Do some keys drop, that depends. However, people (trolls) on here talk like it happens all the time, to everyone. Does it..... I think not. Has it happened to me. Yes. My spacebar was giving me problems. I had another shipped to me as a replacement.

The bottom line is this: buy from a REPUTABLE RESELLER (not newegg). This way if problems happen you have a representative on your side who ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS to help you solve problems. You can't expect every car purchased to run without problems, why do you expect it out of a computer.

Anyone know how to disable that stupid popup bar at the bottom for facebook, tweets, etc. It's quite annoying.

LOL! This keyboard issue just doesn't want to go away! Some folks just have to make a mountain out of a molehill, in spite of what the evidence shows. I guess it's their lot in life..... or they just have to be heard, to feel they have contributed.

The keyboard issue is a small one, complaints are relatively low, yet there always seems to be a 'BrainDancesOnKeyboard' to espouse fear-mongering. The sales numbers vs. complaints and RMA's have bore this out, and resellers have confirmed this.

Just take a look at the case this guy makes...... a link to a singular post, a reference to another post beneath (his hypothesis), and a link to an 'active' thread..... consisting of 15 post, most of which is not really negative at all. This convinces me! (NOT!)

Yep, the keyboard is a REAL problem, and "The Sky Is Falling, The Sky Is Falling"! What baffles me the most is why do these guys persist? If you have an issue, why not just get the keyboard replaced, or the notebook fixed and be done with it? It's not like 'WE' can fix it for them!

    LOL!

The one with the SSD is the GT783-625

That one would not be my choice mainly because of the included SSD.

    I've stated this before.

The GT783-658 would be my choice without one of the hard drives and a DVD instead of the BD burner that lowers the non discounted price from $2299 to $2099.

Ask your dealer about GT783 optional configurations.

That savings would allow any buyer to get an SSD of THEIR choosing and not the antique MSI chose for the GT783-625.

I would also recommend a wireless card upgrade.

The mouse, headset, backpack, pad bundle to me is fluff to distract away from the bad SSD in the 625.

Not really sure I knew what a matte screen was. I was thinking no reflections, cool! But it looks weird, and I think I actually prefer the glossy one over this. I'll probably get used to it, as I've only had the pc for like a day. But the picture sorta looks.... "corny" (or maybe it's grainy in English?) if you catch my drift.

It's like when my iPhone gets sweaty after talking on it for a long time, and the screen sorta "makes rainbow crystals" haha, this just sounds weird. But it's true. Also look of movies etc just sorta looks like I'm in the theatre watching it on a screen, and not smooth like with glossy screens.

I have to say, there is nothing wrong with the keyboard... At all.

Maybe with the older models, but with the new ones... Nope.
Every key I've ever pressed has been registered. The keyboard is probably (and I'm not exaggerating), the best I've ever used. It feels much better than the alienware keyboards in my opinion, and as an example, a friend of mine has had to have his (alienware keyboard) replaced 3 times since he purchased his laptop in the summer!

If buying from a reseller, a simple inquiry for a typing test before they ship the laptop could set the mind at ease if anyone still has any worries, but I think the majority of owners here will have mostly good things to say about the keyboard :)

    I'm ing mad.

Two weeks has gone by since I gave my GT780DX to my local shop where I bought for repairing after I told them that the keyboard is faulty, registering wrong keys when I for an example write:

WASD it may write WA/SD WAKPSD for an example.

    Or when I write fast it goes like;

"Hi my nam eis Sam andp I lik/e pie, especially if it's rasp6berry."

It has been like this since I opened the computer the first time, and no I have not even dropped a single water on the keyboard (who dares have liquid near an expensive laptop and brand new?).

    So then I received it back from my local shop and to my surprise;

They couldn't find anything wrong with the GT780DX's keyboard. They even shocked me with paying them 50 to 100 euros fee for troubleshooting a non-broken device.

I've sent MSI a message and waiting for them to respond. This is a disgrace though.

I refuse to pay 50-100 euros for a laptop that has a faulty keyboard since day 1 and if the swedish technicians arent that bright and cant find it, I should demand my money back and go buy another MSI GT780DX or wait for the nVIDIA 580M.

I also refuse sending my laptop BACK to the same technicians that couldn't find the error. It took them 2 weeks and 2 days from my local shop - to their repair station - trouble shoot - send it back. No, I'm not gonna wait 1 month for nothing.

    Meanwhile in Sweden.

Unfortunately, people like me will see those small few complaints and it will give them an uneasy feeling. I think im going to go ahead with my purchase regardless of the issues a small minority seems to be bringing up.

I guess I should ask how the support at GentechPC Is, because thats where I think im going to purchase the notebook from. However, RK computers offers a 3 year warranty over the 2 year at Gentech, Xoticpc and Powernotebook. But RK computers doesnt offer the Bigfoot Killer 1103 network 3 antenna wireless card. Maybe I'll get a rep on the phone who can work out a deal with me. Do you guys suggest I order it online or actually speak with someone to help me with the purchase?

Alright so I overcame my fear of the warranty sticker and cracked the bottom panel off. Sadly, there is no drive caddy in the second bay.

My reseller has not been able to locate one. Google can't either so far. Has anyone bought one of these so far? (I may start a new thread for this).

Edit: I found one at rkcomputer.net, but the price is outrageous. I've now found out their western Canada service center is local to me, so I'm going to try a few local shops and then maybe MSI directly.

    Regarding the GT783

I would like to change ram and hardisk in the future .

Is it the same setup as the GT780 which you need to tear everything and reveal everything in order to upgrade?

Is the ram still the same as GT780 ? two on keyboard and two on back ?

Working with GenTech PC has been wonderful for me. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've not had a single problem. No phone menu madness, waiting on hole... nothing. I call them, they say 'Ok, we'll fix it, and here is how'. Wonderful service. Even had Ken text me one day after reading a post about a problem I was having. Perfect service.

With that in mind, you might want to check with RK about the warranty. That warranty was offered last year by all manufacturers and was an MSI promotion. Maybe RK didn't update their website, maybe they're still offering it per their own policy. Either way, doesn't hurt to check. In addition, it definitely doesn't hurt to call all resellers and pick the best that works for you.

No - you need a bracket which will match the screw hole locations in the drive bay. One of the original places I talked to said they sometimes included an empty bracket in the bay. Mine did not.

Like Rescue9 said, the 3 year warranty was the promotion from MSI and it ended 12/31/2011 so we change back to 2 year warranty.

I have a GT780-221US and want to add a SSD drive. Does it have two HD bays or one? I see conflicting info in specs and also the bios (and don't want to take it apart to find out because of the Voided warranty if removed sticker).

It has 2, but the second one doesn't have the necessary caddy in it if you buy a single drive model.

Thanks tanzier that explains it and I think this is what I need. I guess I'll buy it and void the warranty. :)

I'm not using a bracket for my crucial m4 128gb SSD.

Been working flawlessly since installation in november.

That Crucial M4 you mention has great reviews. I ended up ordering both the bracket and the Crucial M4. I'll just return the bracket if I don't need it. Thanks for the help.

I have a Crucial M4 and love it but they have been hit the the BSOD bug and a firmware update is expected in the next week or so... something about 5,000 hrs or 208 days (continuous on) and it starts to BSOD.... read it on Tech Report or Toms hardware.... can't remember but thought I would mention it for everybody...

The hard drive mounting bracket is a very simple in design piece of sheet metal that would be very easy to make out of plastic or metal.

When I built a few GX680 models for friends a while back the second bracket was in the box.

This is no longer the case.I need to buy extra brackets now from the MSI notebook service center in Seoul for 12,000KW each. That's a little over $10US.

You can peel off the scarey warranty sticker on the bottom, remove 7 screws and pull off the bottom cover to reveal the 2 SATA III enabled hard drive bays.

The primary drive will have the drive's label facing you when peering into the bottom of the notebook.

A 2nd 750GB hard drive in a GT780-406 from one dealer is $37 so it might be worth while to talk to your dealer about a 2nd drive just to get extra storage and a bracket.

Hey guys, pretty important question: How long at a times do you keep your gt780dxr running? And how long of a time should be a "maximum" where I won't "damage" the pc... I mean.. can I damage it by having it on over long periods of time? I am pretty used to just leaving it on over night, and keeping my laptop on for like a week at a time, sometimes more, sometimes less. Is that bad?

Does anybody else have the plastic piece of the disk drive vibrate against the laptop and vauses a really loud noise, while the drive is in use?
It's starting to get extremely annoying ...

Please explain this with a little more detail.

Is your hard drive secured in the bay with a bracket?

Which part of the notebook is it vibrating against?

Have you looked inside? Is everything tight?

Is it your only hard drive or can you test with a different drive?
