Unfortunately I'm too new to the forums to send PM's. I'll have to think of some helpful things to say and earn some street cred first... :) *puts on troll mask*

Hmmnn.. dangerous "mistakes", if they'd mistakenly sent the 150w instead of the 180w. And if it wasn't a "mistake" at all, being on the specs sheet on the website.

That actually has been bothering me for quite some time already.

Just got a 1761 from Gentech and it comes with a 180 watt adapter. I was originally going to order from Xotic until I called Gentech. Not only did I think Gentech's customer service was a lot better but Ken personally beat the price I was getting from Xotic. Not to mention, Ken from Gentech fallows these forums every single day and he is always available if you have a question or a issue.

Ken also made sure every single key was working on the Steel Series Keyboard I had added since we all know they tend to have many issues. I will not hesitate to use Gentech in the future for my next purchase.

The MSI Whitebooks are shipped from MSI to customizing resellers with the same power adapter and basic parts.

Ask in the barebones forum threads for information from someone that actually got a unit from XOTIC or any other reseller if in doubt about anything before spouting out assumptions.

Typos on websites are not a rarity but rather a common occurence.

There's still some sites that have the SSD in the GT783-625 listed as SATA III 6gb/s when in fact it's SATA II 3gb/s and revealed as such a few weeks ago right here on this forum by Ken from GenTech.

You won't get a SATA III SSD unless you pay extra for it no matter what the site's specs say.

Up until that time all resellers were listing it as SATA III.

I agree with you. But sadly, those "typos" that appear on websites become "advertisements". And if those information are false/incorrect, then that would classify as "false advertisement".

No, they would just be classified as mistakes.

False advertisement requires intent, and mistakes do not have the intent to deceive.

Sure, depending on whether yours has a Sentelic or Synaptics touchpad (go to Device Manager to find out) just Google and you will find the driver download site for each.

Thanks. I reinstalled OS to new SSD and couldn't find the touchpad drivers anywhere. Of course, at this point, Device manager isn't going to tell which pad is present. I tried the Synaptics but it said no Synaptics pad was present. The Sentelic rivers work but I'm almost 100% positive that the settings interface is not the same as it was on the original hard drive that came with the system. Guess I could pop in the old drive and boot from it to determine pad and driver.

I never saw the driver on the driver's disk. But, I did findthis driver on Synapics site and it works perfectly. Believe it is the one I had originally.

I'm sure it was not their intent. But it makes us confused and feeling a bit misled. And it doesn't say anything about the intent here: "Any advertising or promotion that misrepresents the nature, characteristics, qualities or geographic origin of goods, services or commercial activities" (Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C.A. § 1125(a))[1] and here: "False advertising or deceptive advertising is the use of false or misleading statements in advertising."[2]

Anyway, I'm sure XoticPC is a very reputable reseller. I just hope buyers can get more accurate data when it comes to maximizing the value of their hard-earned cash.

My GT735 had an angled plug. I really liked it because it removed any tension from the plug. One thing I like about MSI laptops (the ones I've owned) is the fact that the power cord plugs into the back. It's out of the way and doesn't stretch across my lap if the wall outlet is in an inconvenient location. Was somewhat disappointed that the GT780 was not angles. Hopefully, there will be an angled adapter available soon (or is it already)? That adapter would save a lot of wear and tear on my daily inserting and removing of the power cord too.

Installed Samsung Series 830, 128GB SSD last night into GT780DX. First tried to copy original hard drive to the SSD with Ghost but it failed at the end. Read that this can happen if Windows has a file located far out on the hard drive. So, I just did a fresh install of Windows 7, which is wanted I wanted to do anyway. Benchmarks are about 520 MB/s read and 300 MB/s write, IOPS about 60000 read and 18000-19000 write. Windows bootup to login screen after turning on laptop is about 15 seconds.

Nice! I'm still deciding whether to go with jhe Samsung 830, Crucial M4 or get another larger Patriot Wildfire to replace my 750GB secondary drive....despite the extra cost..I'm leaning towards the Samsung at the moment....

I tried the Sentelic driver and the touchpad would just die at random times and not recover until a reboot. I was using Version 9.1.77, which was downloaded from a link in a previous thread. Looks like you are on the same version.

I just received my 1761 barebones today and installed a fresh copy of Windows on my Samsung 830. After doing so, installed all drivers from the driver disk and the only one giving me issues was the Sentelic driver. I also tried installing he latest one from MSI's website but when my computer boots up, it is still saying driver error.

I will try using the Synaptics driver to see if that works. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

In a previous post I demonstrated how the small file reads and writes of 16K,8K 4K and smaller are what is most important when it comes to 80% of an SSD's daily use disk access. Those are the benchmarks you should be paying attention to and not the big number sequentials that are important 1% of the time. This can be measured with Microsofts Diskmon.
    ___

If you are going to clone a Windows 7 installation from a hard disk to an SSD try the FREE O&O SSD Migration Kit but a clean install while the SSD is the only drive physically inside the notebook is best so TRIM works properly and an uncorrupted MBR is created.A HDD doesn't use TRIM so it's not setup in the registry you're cloning.

    Hello everyone,

I just bought a gt780dx. I returned my first one due to memory issues. It had over 310,000 errors on memtest86+ in just one pass. I am posting to ask about temperatures.

What kind of CPU and GPU temps are you folks getting on these 780's?

My CPU idles at 44c and goes to 84c on load (turbofan off) 79 on load (turbofan on). My load test was running Prime95.

My GPU idles at 40c and goes to 73c on load.

Are these temps typical? I am testing without any external cooling.

This is a question for those of you who are using a Bigfoot Wireless Card.

Is there any reason why I should keep the Killer Network Manager running or can I disable it?

It is a button on the bar on top. It is the third button from the left on the 780dx. It makes the fan go at top speed.

It's a pressure sensitive button on the left side of the Control Bar with the fan symbol on it.

Once the you have run the Manager's bandwidth test, the service can be disabled without issue. If needed, you can always launch the Manager later from the 'Start' menu.
